ESPECIALLY FOR OUR WORKING CLASS ESSENTIAL WORKING FAMILIES OUR HOMELESS AND POST TER YOUTH AND REALLY HAPPY WE'LL BE APPROVING TO MAKE SURE DISTANCE TEACHING WILL BE TAKING APPLAUSE THIS FALL.

>> SUPERINTENDENT. >> I'M GREAT FOUL MY STAFF FOR ALL THE HARD WORK THAT THEY'VE PUT IN. THINGS HAVE BEEN CRAZY TIMES UNPRECEDENTED TO REALLY I I THINK THAT WORD IS PROBABLY OVERUSED BUT ACCURATE. AND ALL THE WORK THEY'VE PUT IN WE'RE NOW DOING THINGS THAT WE WERE NEVER INTENDED TO DO AS EDUCATORS THAT WE WEREN'T ASKED TO DO AND TRYING OUR BEST TO DO IT. AND I THINK THE NICE THING ABOUT NATOMAS IS THE VAST MAJORITY OF OUR COMMUNITY RECOGNIZES AND HONORS AND RESPECTS THAT.

THE FACT THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES WILL RATIFY A SOCIAL WORKER JOB DESCRIPTION AND WE HAVE THOSE POSITIONS POSTED AND WE'LL BE ADDING SOCIAL WORKERS TO EVERY SCHOOL K-8.

THANK YOU BOARD FOR BEING SUPPORT OF THAT. THE FACT THAT TODAY MULTIPLE VARIANCEES AND GUIDELINES HAVE PUT TOGETHER AND UTILIZED RESTRICTIVE FUNDS IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME TO BE ABLE TO PUT SOMETHING TOGETHER FOR OUR STUDENTS TO HELP OUR WORKING FAMILIES. DISTANCE LEARNING SURVEY AND I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO OUR CHIEF ACADEMIC OFFICER.

THANK YOU AND YES WE WILL BE TEAM OF US WILL BE PROVIDING AN UPDATE NOT JUST ONTO DISTANCE LEARNING SURVEY THAT WE HAD IN THE SPRING WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT THOSE RESULTS BUT WE'RE GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT OUR DISTANCE LEARNING FOR THE FALL. SO I HAVE JOINING ME ONTO CALL OR ON THE MEETING RUSCHELL WHO WORKS WITH OUR RESEARCH AND DATA TEAM AND SUPERINTENDENT. SO I BELIEVE RUSCHELL YOU'RE

GOING TO BE HEARING. >> ALL RIGHT. SO AS WE MOVE THROUGH THE PRESENTATION AND AS YOU HEAR THE THINGS WE'RE TALKING ABOUT SO AS I SAID WE'LL BE LOOKING AT THE FEEDBACK GIVEN ON THE SURVEY THAT WAS SENT OUT TO TEACHERS STUDENTS AND FAMILIES TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE CHALLENGES OF WHEN WE HAVE TO GO THE DISTANCE LEARNING.

AND THEN OBVIOUSLY OUR UPDATE FOR THE FALL. >> WHAT DID WE LEARN FROM THE SPRING? WE'RE GOING THROUGH A QUICK TIMELINE.

SO ONE HUNDRED 45 DAYS AGO TODAY SCHOOLS CLOSED AND YOU COULD FEEL IT SOMETIMES BUT THAT FOLLOWING WEEK WE STARTED TO WORK TO GET AN MOU READY TO START DISTANCE LEARNING FOR THE REST OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. BECAUSE WE KNEW WE NEEDED THAT TO HAPPEN.

FOR A FEW WEEKS WE SPENT TIME PLANNING PREPPING MAKING SURE OUR STUDENTS HAD ACCESS AND MAKING SURE EVERYTHING WAS UP AND RUNNING CREATING PRESENTATIONS ON HOW YOU ZOOM.

THIS WAS NEW FOR EVERYBODY AND THANKFULLY WE HAD 2 WEEKS TO DO A PILOT.

AS YOU REMEMBER WE LEARNED SOME THINGS AND ADJUSTED AND HELPED MORE FAMILIES GET ALIGNED AND MORE TEACHERS ON THE NEW PLATFORMS AND PROGRAMS. IT TOOK A WEEK FOR SPRING BREAK THAT WAS MUCH NEEDED FOR US AND THEN JUMPED RIGHT INTO DISTANCE LEARNING.

SO STAFF PROVIDED DISTANCE LEARNING FULL ON FROM APRIL 20 TWEETH THROUGH MAY 21ST AND WE WERE ALL HEARING THINGS -- FROM FAMILIES AND TEACHERS ABOUT WHAT WAS GOING WELL WHAT WASN'T.

SO WE WANTED TO DO A FULL-BLOWN SCALE OF WE WANT TO HEAR YOUR FEEDBACK.

WE WANTED TO KNOW EVERYTHING THAT WAS HAPPENING. SO ON MAY 15TH WE SENT OUT DISTANCE LEARNING SURVEYS BY E-MAIL, PHONE, MEDIA. I MEAN ALL OUR NORMAL WAYS OF COMMUNICATING. SORRY. AND THEN WE'VE BEEN USING THOSE SURVEY RESULTS TO INFORM PLAN FORTH THE 2021 SCHOOL YEAR. NOW MY PSYCHIC GENE WAS OFF BECAUSE I HAD NO IDEA WE WOULD START THE SCHOOL YEAR THIS WAY BUT AS YOU KNOW WE HAVE REALLY GREAT FEED BALL SO YOU'LL SEE THE SURVEY RESULTS THAT I GO OVER REFLECTED IN DISTANCE LEARNING FOR THE UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR. NOW I GOT MY BUTTON STRAIGHT

WE'RE GOING TO THE LOOK THAT ABOUT WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THE SPRING.

SO IT WAS SENT TO ALL STUDENTS IN GRADES AND ALL FAMILIES OF ALL GRADES.

THESE ARE THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS TEACHERS AND FAMILIES THAT RESPONDED AS WELL AS THE % OF RESPONDENTS. SO YOU SEE 18%, 60% AND 41% RESPECTIVELY.

IT GAVE US SOME CRITICAL FEEDBACK THAT WE WANTED AND NEEDED.

SO WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT THOSE. WE ASKED 3 UP ENDED QUESTIONS WHICH AS A QUANTITATIVE RESEARCHER WAS AMAZE GOES TO GET BACK INTO THAT QUALITATIVE RESEARCH BECAUSE WE REALLY WANTED TO KNOW OPEN ENDED TELL US EVERYTHING THAT WENT WELL EVERYTHING THAT DIDN'T AND EVERYTHING ELSE THAT YOU WANT TO TELL US.

SO WE WERE HERE TO LISTEN. SO LET'S LOOK AT WHAT MADE DISTANCE LEARNING SUCCESSFUL.

YOU CAN SEE FOR OUR STUDENTS THEY WERE EXCITED THAT THEY GOT TO BE ABLE TO FINISH MORE WORK AND INCREASE THEIR GRADE. SO A LOT OF THEM SAID THEY WERE WORRIED IN THE MIDDLE OF MARCH WHEN WE CLOSED SCHOOL THAT WAS IT. THEY WERE GOING TO BE STUCK WITH THAT GRADE. BUT WE GAVE THEM THE OPPORTUNITY I TO INCREASE THAT AND THEY EVEN JOYED THAT. THEY LIKED THE FLEXIBILITY YOU KNOW OF GETTING ONLINE FINISHING WORK WHEN THEY COULD AND CONNECTING WITH THEIR TEACHERS AND THEIR CLASSMATES EITHER WITH ZOOM CLASSROOM WORK PROJECTS AND STILL HAVING THAT CONNECTION. TEACHERS KIND OF SIMILAR THEY REALLY LIKE THE ONLINE PLATFORMS. SO ZOOM HAS BEEN A BIG THING.

I DON'T THINK I'VE EVER BEEN ON ZOOM SO MUCH IN MY LIFE BUT THAT HAS BEEN HUGE AND USING GOOGLE CLASSROOM AND ONLINE CURRICULUM THAT WE IMPLEMENTED THE LAST FEW YEARS THAT THANKFUL HE THEY WERE FAMILIAR WITH SO WE CAN GO INTO WONDERS AND CENTRAL AND USE ONLINE CORRECT LOOMS AND PLATFORMS THAT THEY WERE USED TO USING. FAMILIES THAT MAJORITY OF THEM LIKED IT WHEN THEY GOT THAT CLEAR STRUCTURE THAT CLEAR KNOW STRUCKS SHIN.

HEY WE'RE DOING MORNING MEETING AT 8 A.M. WE'RE GETTING ON ZOOM AT 10:00 A.M. TO DO THIS. THIS IS THE CLASS THEY REALLY ENJOYED.

SOMETIMES FAMILIES COME HOME FROM WORK AND THE TEACHER THEIR WORK HOURS ARE DONE SO FIND THAT GO TIME WHERE TEACHERS ARE AVAILABLE AND FAMILIES KNOW THEY'RE AVAILABLE AND STUDENTS KNOW THEY'RE AVAILABLE TO ACTUALLY CONNECT AND MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS GOING RIGHT FOR EVERYONE THAT WAS 2 BIGGEST THINGS THAT YOU SAW. IT WAS NICE THAT EVERYONE WAS OPEN AND HONEST ON THE SURVEY.

IT'S NOT LIKE I'M SITTING AT HOME ALONE. THAT WAS THE NUMBER THING FOR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES VIRTUAL CONNECTING WITH CLASSMATES AND TEACHERS AND SEEING AND DOING WORK PROJECTS AND EVERYTHING. AND THEN SECOND YOU'LL SEE STUDENTS AND FAMILIES WITH EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES. SO WE STILL WANT TO HAVE FUN. WE WANT TO HAVE MORNING MEETINGS AND LUNCH ASSEMBLIES. YOU'LL SEE THE SITES ARE CONTINUING TO WORK ON HAVING THOSE AS A PART OF THE CULTURE OF SCHOOL BECAUSE THEY LOVE THAT.

AND THEN IT WAS FUN TO SEE THAT EVEN THOUGH IT WAS COMPLETING CLASSWORK AND HOMEWORK THEY WERE ONLINE COMMUNICATING WITH PIERS. THAT KEPT THEM CONNECTED. WORKING WITH A GROUP.

SO WE CONTINUE TO CONNECT WITH NEW FAMILIES AND THEN ALSO CHECKING IN WITH OUR CURRENT STUDENTS TO ENSURE THEIR TECH KNOWLEDGE GENTLEMEN IS WORKING FOR THEM. THE NEXT THING IS THE REQUIREMENT THAT DISTANCE LEARNING LOOKS SUBSTANTIALLY SIMILAR TO IN CLASS INSTRUCTION CHALLENGING ASSIGNMENTS EKWI6 LENT TO IN PERSON CLASSES -- EQUIVALENT.
