WE TALKED ABOUT THE SIX PILLARS FOR WEEKS NOW. WE TALKED ABOUT THE DIVIDE THAT'S IN PLACE. IT'S ONE THAT'S ALREADY TAKEN GOALS AND HELPING THEM SUPPORT STUDENTS. OBVIOUSLY WE HAVE NUTRITION SERVICES TEAMS THAT HAVE RECOGNITION AND THEY CAN BE FLEXIBLE. THERE HAVE FLEXIBLE PLANS AND
[00:05:03]
POINTS OF SALES. THOSE THREE THINGS WERE NOT SAYING WE CAN TELL YOU THIS VERY SECOND WHAT IT WOULD LOOK LIKE. IT'S ALMOST HARD FOR JEFFERSON.THERE'S CONFIDENCE THAT THESE THINGS WILL BE EXECUTED. WE HAVE ACCESS TO BOOKS AND ENSURE THAT THEY HAVE TECHNOLOGY AND INTERNET ACCESS. AS THE SENIORS GO OUT THEY CAN HELP THAT MATERIAL BACK. WE HAVE ANOTHER GROUP OF THE THOUSAND OR SO COMING IN AND WE HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT THERE ARE ESTABLISHED AND SET UP. WE PROVEN THAT WE CAN DO THAT.
NUMBER SIX IS LARGELY SITE BASED. THERE'LL BE GUIDELINES AND A LOT OF THOSE WILL COME FROM PLANS THAT PEOPLE HAVE WORKED ON WITH REPRESENTING IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE PUBLIC HEALTH. THE DRAFTS OF THAT ARE ALREADY OUT. AS SOON AS WE GET THE FINAL VERSION WE CAN SHOOT THAT OFF TO YOU. I KNOW THEY MADE SOME CHANGES YESTERDAY.
THEY MIGHT'VE TO DO IT BECAUSE THEY HAVE BETTER INFORMATION. SIX WILL LARGELY BE BASED ON THAT GUIDANCE FROM PUBLIC HEALTH WITH BROAD GUIDELINES AND PARAMETERS ACCORDING TO THE PRINCIPLES. THERE'S NOT TO BE ASSEMBLIES OR RALLIES AT THE GYM IN TRADITIONAL WAYS. THERE ARE VIRTUAL WAYS. WERE THERE AREAS OF INTEREST AND NEED FOR EACH SITE THEY CAN COME UP WITH THE VIRTUAL EXAMPLES WITH KIDS IN THEIR CLASSROOMS. THERE'S LOTS OF THINGS THAT CAN BE DONE.
>> TODAY WE ARE REALLY HERE TO TALK ABOUT TWO AND THREE. YOU'RE PROVIDING FAMILIES WITH EDUCATIONAL OPTIONS IN PARTICULAR NUMBER THREE. YOU CAN HAVE THREE WITHOUT NUMBER TWO AS PART OF OUR . THE NEXT LIGHT SAYS THERE'S BEEN LOTS OF DEBATE AND DISCUSSION ABOUT STUDENT SCREENING IS A COMMON FOR TEMPERATURE.
ARE WE GOING TO TAKE 1200 STUDENTS TEMPERATURES? THE ANSWER IS NO.
THERE IS A PROGRAM THAT'S BEING WORKED ON WHEN WE GO TO GET MORE DETAILS ON THAT.
IT'S A NICE GUIDELINE TO ARTICULATE TRENDS AND THEY SHOULD TAKE DAILY TEMPERATURE CHECKS OF STUDENTS. THEY IDENTIFIED WITH TEMPERATURE RANGES AND NUMBERS THAT THE PUBLIC HOUSES IF YOU ARE AT THIS NUMBER YOUR STUDENTS SHOULD STAY HOME.
WE WILL ASK STAFF TO DO THE SAME THING. IF STUDENTS ARE AT SCHOOL AND FEEL ILL HAVE A SERIES IS A FEW INCHES AWAY FROM A SAFE DISTANCE AND THAT WILL HELP US DETERMINE IF A STUDENT HAS A FEVER AND AS WE'VE DONE IN THE PAST THERE ARE ISOLATION ROOMS AVAILABLE. ANYTIME THERE'S BEEN A POTENTIAL PANDEMIC WE'VE COME UP WITH PLANS. WE HAD TO PUT A PLAN IN PLACE FOR A BULLET YOUR SPEC.
THE STUDENT CAN BE ISOLATED SO PARENTS CAN PICK THEM UP AND THEY CAN BE WITH EMPLOYEES.
EACH SITE HAS A DIFFERENT NUMBER OF CASES AND DIFFERENT NUMBERS OF ENTRANCES.
THERE ARE INCREASING SAFETY MEASURES AROUND SCHOOLS. THEY ARE NARROWING ENTRYWAYS AND WE MAY HAVE TO ADJUST THEM A LITTLE BIT. NOT ALL 500 KIDS ARE COMING AT THE SAME TIME TALKING AT THE SAME MOMENT. IT'S PART OF WHAT WE TALKED ABOUT. THERE'S AN OVERALL DISTRICT SAFETY PLAN AND EACH SITE IS WORKING ON THEIR OWN. EACH SITE IS UNIQUE AND DIFFERENT.
WHEN IT CAME TO TEMPERATURES THERE WERE TWO OTHER THINGS. THERE'S NEW TECHNOLOGY FOR SCREENING FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF AS THEY ENTER. THAT'S TECHNOLOGY THAT WOULD COST ABOUT 20,000 AND CHANGE. STUDENTS AND STAFF WALKED THEIR SPECIFIC ENTRY POINTS AND THAT WILL BE 20,000 EACH. IT'S RECEIVING SOME QUESTIONS FROM THE ACLU AND HE KNOWS WHAT
[00:10:02]
ABOUT THAT LAST TIME. WE GENERALLY TALKED ABOUT SCREENING EVERY STUDENT AS THEY ENTER. THE NICE THING IS THE PUBLIC HEALTH IS WORKING WITH THE COMMITTEE TO REALIZE THAT'S NOT REALLY FEASIBLE. THAT WILL BE A PART OF THEIR PLAN. IT'S A MUST BE RELEASED JUNE 1 BUT THERE MAY BE AN EARLYRELEASE. ANY QUESTIONS ON TEMPERATURE? >> WOMAN: CHRIS THIS IS LISA.
QUICK QUESTION. HOW ARE WE TO A CERTAIN EXTENT WORKING TOGETHER SO THAT THE SURROUNDING SCHOOL DISTRICTS AS WELL. WHATEVER PLAN WE COME UP WITH.
WE KNOW THAT LA COUNTY CAME OUT WITH THEIR GUIDELINES AND REQUIRES TEMPERATURES TO BE TAKEN IN EACH SCHOOL. THEN IT BECOMES A CONVERSATION SO IT REQUIRES TEMPERATURES AT SCHOOLS AND TEMPERATURES TAKEN AT HOME. I AM OKAY WITH US PRESENTED BUT
HAS THERE BEEN TALK ABOUT HAVING CONSISTENCY? >> IS A SURE JUST A FEW MOMENTS AGO IT'S IN SACRAMENTO PCOUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH RECOMMENDATIONS.
WHATEVER COUNTY HAS DONE IS PROVIDE GUIDANCE. AS YOU KNOW THE COUNTY ARE BOSSES. THE COUNTY RECOMMENDATION WILL BE STREAMED AT HOME.
>> A FATHER TO THAT. IF YOU DO IT FROM THE SCREEN AT HOME.
A SIGNIFICANT PART OF YOUR POPULATION IS REDUCED THOUGH INCOME.
HOW ARE WE GOING TO PROVIDE THE ABILITY FOR PARENTS TO TAKE TEMPERATURES AT HOME.
THAT'S NOT SOMETHING THEY HAVE AS WELL AS EDUCATE OUR PARENTS TO KNOW WHAT KIND OF CHECKLISTS
THEY SHOULD BE LOOKING AT WHEN THEY TAKE TEMPERATURES. >> THE GUIDELINES COME OUT MONDAY AND WE OUTLINE NOT. WE DO ADVOCATE THAT WE ARTICULATE PARENTS AND DOING EDUCATION COMPONENT. CREATE A GROUP OF PEERS STUDENT LEADERS TO HELP.
IF THAT BECOMES UNAFFORDABLE BECAUSE OF BUDGET SITUATIONS THAN IT'S GONNA BE HAVE TO BE PART OF OUR REGULAR LESSON PLANNING. THE PLAN IS TO COME TOGETHER TO TAKE THE GUIDELINES WITH OTHER RESOURCES AND TO BUILD LESSONS AS A PART OF EARLY START.
BUT THOSE LESSONS TOGETHER SO WE CAN TEACH THEM RIGHT AWAY. >> WE HAVE TO FIGURE OUT A SENSE WITH WHAT ACCESS PARENTS TO HAVE. WE DON'T HAVE AN ANSWER FOR YET BUT IT'S POTENTIAL. I SUSPECT AS WE RULE THIS OUT MORE SPECIFICALLY THE GUIDELINES GO OUT. THAT IS A BE A QUESTION WITH THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT SCREEN AT
HOME. >> TRUSTEES ANY OTHER QUESTIONS?
>> I CAN ONLY SEE IF YOU VIEW. THE BOARD MEETING IS TRICKY FOR ME SO PLEASE SPEAK UP.
>> I APPRECIATE DOUG, ANGELA AND CHRISTINA. >> IS A DIFFERENT FEEL.
WE VISITED. IT'S ON THE CREEK WITH TAPE MEASURES AND A PURPOSE.
[00:15:01]
>> HERE IS A PHOTO. WE ACTUALLY WENT INTO A ROOM AND THIS IS WHAT SIX-FOOT SOCIAL DISTANCE AND LOOKS LIKE. LIKE MANY CLASSROOMS ACROSS THE COUNTRY IN THE WORLD THE ROOMS WERE MADE TO BE TAJ MAHAL'S. THEY'RE MADE TO SERVE A CERTAIN RANGE OF STUDENTS.
20 STUDENTS IS TIGHT AND 21 IS POSSIBLY. IF YOU LOOK IN THE LEFT CORNER BY THE DOOR THERE'S 21. DEPENDING ON THE ROOMS MAKE UP THERE'LL BE NO ACCESS TO COMPANIES AND NO HANGING JACKETS AND SPACE AVAILABLE. IT'S JUST A DIFFERENT FEEL.
IT'S WHAT I DID IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. IT WILL BE A SHIFT IN KNOWING
MY EXCHANGE. >> ARE SOME OF THOSE DESKS RIGHT UP AGAINST THE WHITE
BOARD? >> WHEN HE GETS A LITTLE BIT. >> THE LCF CLASS-SIZE WHICH I HAVE NOT HEARD YET OR ANY OF THE PEOPLE AT THE CAPITAL SHARE IS BEING DISCUSSED AS A WAIVER.
IT'S MANDATED AT 24 ONE. AS YOU CAN SEE THE ROOMS TIGHT AND THAT HOLDS A LITTLE SHORT.
WE HAVE TO CUT AN ADDITIONAL 3-POINT SOMETHING MILLION DOLLARS BY VIOLATING THAT.
WE ARE MONITORING CLASS SIZES EVERY YEAR. SAME ROOM.
THE PICTURE DOESN'T CHANGE BUT THE SCENARIO DOES. THE SECOND FIT 20 OR 21 KIDS.
THE TEACHER CAN GO ON AND SQUEEZE RIGHT NOW THE CUBBIES AND THE TEACHER HAS ROOM ON THE WHITEBOARD. WITH CLASS-SIZE TARGETS OF 30 TO 32 WHICH IS ACTUALLY LIKE A BARGAINING AGREEMENT SUDDENLY YOU HAVE A BIG GAP THAT'S 10 TO 11 KIDS THAT DON'T HAVE THE
SPACE TO BE IN THIS ROOM. >> ARE SOME OF THE INITIAL THOUGHT IS WE VISITED SOME OF THE CLASSROOMS. SOME OF THIS IS STILL PENDING WITH REGIONAL GUIDANCE.
YOU'LL PROBABLY SEEP PLASTIC PLEXIGLAS COVERS IN THE FRONT OFFICES.
IT HELPS SUPPORT OUR SECRETARIES AND PROVIDE THEM EXTRA SOCIAL DISTANCING PRODUCTION. THEY ARE NOT RECOMMENDING THAT YOU DO THIS.
STAFF IS IN AGREEMENT WITH THAT. AND IF THEY TO TUTOR CHANGED IT. THE SCIENCE IS SOLID. IT ACTUALLY INCREASES THE POTENTIAL OF THEM CONTACTING SPACES WHERE THINGS CAN BE DONE.
WE DIDN'T CUT-AND-PASTE AND PUT EVERYTHING IN THEIR. THAT'S NOT OUR PLACE.
IT DEFINITELY HAD SCIENCE AND THOUGHT BEHIND IT. ANY STUDENT OTHER RESPIRATORY OR HEALTH NEEDS CAN WEAR A MASK. AS FOR THOSE THAT CANNOT PROVIDE FOR THEM. WE CAN EASILY HAVE DISPOSABLE ONES IF A STUDENT SAYS MY
[00:20:05]
MOMENTS TO WEAR A MASK AND I FORGOT MINE. WE'RE TRYING TO HAVE THE LEAST AMOUNT OF DISRUPTIONS AS POSSIBLE. ADDITIONALLY THE LARGER CLASSROOMS. DOUG THIS IS WHERE YOU CAN. CLASSROOMS WILL BE DESIGNED BIGGER AND ILL BE ABLE TO HOLD 24 STUDENTS. KIDS ARE VERY BRIGHT AND THEY WILL LEARN. ANYTIME YOU SEE THREE CASH SIGNS THAT MEANS EVERYONE'S BEEN TALKING ABOUT IT AND THE STATES ACROSS THE COUNTRY ARE FORCED TO PROVIDE SCHOOL DISTRICTS WITH BUDGETS THAT ARE EXPENSES GOING UP WITH INCREASES.NONE OF THESE ITEMS ARE YET IN OUR BUDGET. THEY WON'T BE FOR BUDGET APPROVAL IN JUNE. WE WANT TO FIGURE OUT HOW THE ASSEMBLY, SENATE AND GOVERNOR GOING TO WORK OUT GETTING US THE MONEY THAT WE CAN AFFORD TO DO THAT.
WE WILL SPEND AND PURCHASE THEM EARLY. IT'S THE ULTIMATE SOCIAL DISTANCE OPPORTUNITIES AND IT'S IN THE PUBLIC HEALTH. WE TALK ABOUT PHYSICAL BARRIERS. I THINK ALMOST ANY STUDENT WHOSE PLACE NEAR THE ELEMENTARY DOORS WE LOOK AT WILL PROBABLY HAVE A BARRIER. THAT'S WHERE THE MOST TRAFFIC
IS. >> ONE OF THE THINGS I TOLD THE PRINCIPAL THE OTHER DAY IS BE THOUGHTFUL. SEE IF YOU GET A PARENT I'LL BE OKAY WITH THEIR KID BEING THE ONE THAT SITS THERE. THEY WILL HAVE A BARRIER. WHEREVER THERE ARE BARRIERS ASK FOR VOLUNTEERS.IDS MIGHT THINK IT'S COOL AND INTERESTING.
PHYSICAL BARRIERS ARE ALLOWED AND WILL HELP US WHERE SPACE IS TIGHT.
WE WILL GET TO WHY WITCHES CAN HIRE MORE TEACHERS AND A LITTLE BIT.
WE ONLY LOOKED AT CASE SIX. THAT ONE ERADICATES HALF OF OUR RESERVE.
IT'S JUST TO ADDRESS THAT. WE MIGHT USE OUR RESERVES. HAVING MORE TEACHERS REASON VIABLE. THEY RELY AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY AND I'LL BE MY PRESENT DAILY. THEY ARE TO HAVE LESS PERSONAL SPACE AND WILL ACTUALLY SHOW YOU PHOTOS AND TALK ABOUT IT MORE THAN. THE KEY TO THIS AS WE TALK ABOUT A FEW MORE TIMES AS WE HAVE AN ALREADY AGREED-UPON INDEPENDENT STUDY MODEL AS OUR TEACHERS ASSOCIATION. WE PRESENT A SERIES OF IDEAS FOR HYBRID OPTIONS VARIES POTENTIALLY AS EARLY AS NEXT WEEK ONCE THE GUIDANCE IS THAT WE START TALKING ABOUT WHAT HYBRID OPTIONS ARE. IF A PARENT GOES I'M NOT COMFORTABLE SENDING MY CHILD BACK AND I HAVE TIME TO BE AT HOME I GOT A LOT OF THE WORK. THIS IS IN PART OF HER SOCIAL
[00:25:25]
DISTANCING PLAN. >> ANY QUESTIONS FOR THE TRUSTEES ON THAT? THINGS TO CONSIDER. NUMBER ONE GOING BANKRUPT. TO COME AS A CLASS SIZES FOR TK THROUGH SIX GRADE, SELF-CONTAINED IS ESTIMATED AT 17.4% OF TEACHERS.
THIS IS OUR LARGEST GROUP OUTSIDE OF HASKELL TEACHERS. DESCENDENT OF TIME TO GET THEM IN AUGUST. THERE'S NOT ENOUGH FACILITIES AND MONEY TO FACILITATE THAT.
I CAN TELL YOU THAT BASED ON THE 39 FTE JUST FOR TK THROUGH SIX GRADE SELF-CONTAINED THAT WOULD BE 3.5 MILLION IN NEW TEACHER COST OR ONE THIRD OF WHAT WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN IN THE DIVISION. ACTUALLY TALKED ABOUT 10 IN BRINGING IN MORE DESKS.
IT'S NOT GOOD FOR PARENTS THAT CAN BE HOME WITH THEIR CHILD. WE ARE FAMILY SUCH AS CAN'T DO THAT. DISTANCE LEARNING IS AN EMERGENCY ACTION THAT WE MAY HAVE TO GO BACK TO AT SOME POINT IN 2020 OR 2021 THE STATE SHUT DOWN AGAIN.
THAT IS NOT A PRIMARY MODEL EDUCATION. WE HOPE THEY LEARN 12 AND THE OTHER DAY AND THAT'S WHERE WE ARE HEADED. THEY CAN GO HYBRID OR INDEPENDENT STUDY. THE RESULTS OF OPTIONS FOR PARENTS OF THEIR NOT STUCK BUT WE ARE NOT RECOMMENDING SHRINKING INSTRUCTIONAL TIME. ANY QUESTIONS ON WHAT WE CONSIDERED? THANK YOU. NOW WE WILL TALK ABOUT WITH WHAT DOUG'S TALKING ABOUT. THESE ARE IMAGES THAT SHOW YOU WHAT THE BARRIERS LOOK LIKE.
KIDS CAN SEE THROUGH AND THEY HAVE TO BE CLEANED. IT'S THE SAME STUDENT SITTING AT THE SAME DESKS. WHEN IT'S CLEANED THAT WORKS OUT WELL.
IF WE DO A HYBRID MODEL WITH FIVE OR SIX KIDS COMING IN ONE WEEK TO TAKE THE NEXT WEEK AND WORK AT HOME WITH THEIR PARENTS. THEY PARTICIPATE IN CLASS VIRTUALLY. BILL BE IDENTIFIED AND TARGETED.
THERE'S A LOT OF EASY WAYS. YOU CAN PUT A MARK ON EACH DESK.
IT IDENTIFIES THE CUSTODIANS AND THESE ARE THE SIX SPOTS. YOU CAN MAKE SURE THAT YOU EXTRA DEEP CLEAN THOSE. I WOULD NOT USE THIS CLOSE OF AN EXAMPLE OR RECOMMEND NOT.
>> IS A SOLUTION WITH SOME OF OUR CLASSROOMS ARE ON THE SMALLER SIS TO GET EASILY AND
[00:30:06]
THE YOUNGER GRADES 24 KIDS IN THERE. WITH STILL SOCIAL ISTANCING.WE LOOKED AT T IT IF WE WERE TO DO FOURTH AND FIFTH GRADE? WOULD THEY HAVE TO ACTUALLY BE
THIS CLOSE TOGETHER IN THE CLASSROOM AS THE PICTURE? >> UNFORTUNATELY IT MIGHT BE
AN EASY HELPING SOLUTION. >> OF THEM YOU CAN ACTUALLY WRITE ON.
IF WE GET THE RIGHT ONES KIDS CAN ACTUALLY HAVE WHITEBOARD MARKERS.
NOT EVERY KID IS CAN A PROCESS ON A LAPTOP. THEY HELP PROCESS IT.
THAT CAN ACTUALLY HELP BE A TOOL THAT PEOPLE CAN FROWN UPON AND IT MIGHT ACTUALLY BE ASKED FOR CHANGE OVER TIME. WHAT ARE YOU LEARNING AS THEIR BACKLOG? THIS CAN BE SOME FABRICATION INVOLVED. POTENTIALLY WE COULD USE TABLES AND SOME OF ROOMS WITH SOME OF THESE. WE'RE LOOKING AT THOSE AND WERE ALSO LOOKING AT PURCHASING LARGE SHEET AND WE HAVE THE ABILITY TO CUT AND FABRICATE THE CUSTOM FIT SOME OF THEM. TOOK A WHILE TO MAKE ENOUGH THE RIGHT NOW WE'RE GOING AROUND THE SCHOOLS TO SEE EXACTLY WHAT KIND OF TABLES WE HAVE IN ALL OF THE CLASSROOMS. WE ALSO LOOKING AT THE VOLUME. APPLWE EXPECT THERE WILL BE A RUN ON THE PLEXIGLAS AND ALSO COMPANIES THAT ARE STARTING OUT WITH THESE ARE GETTING INUNDATED.
>> SLIMMING DOWN THE ROOMS. THE ROOMS ARE IN HAVE TO GO ON A DIET.
THIS IS A FULL-SIZE CANDOR. IT'S EITHER BUILT-IN SAMPLING OR CABINETRY.
IN THIS CASE THERE WAS A FULL-SIZE CANDOR. WE SERVE STUDENTS WITH SOCIAL DISTANCING OR PROTECTIVE BARRIERS BETTER THAT WAY. WAS YESTERDAY YOU'RE IN HERE ABOUT IT. THIS CAN BE FRUSTRATION FROM PSTAFF.
IT ALLOWS KIDS TO KEEP THE ROOMS THE WAY THEY WERE. THAT'S THE REALITY.
WE HAVE TO SUMMED ON OUR ROOMS. THE NEXT ONE, THIS IS THE MIDDLE SCHOOL.
[00:35:07]
IT'S A PANORAMIC SHOT. ONCE AGAIN MY ROOM LOOKED A LOT LIKE THIS.NOT SAYING IT'S BAD BUT SOME OF ITS PORTABLE. YOU NEED SOME ROOM IN OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL CLASSROOMS. IT'S NOT JUST BECAUSE OF THE CURRENT SIZE BUT IT HELPS GETTING THE CARDS OUT. KIDS CHARGES ARE TO BE HERE THROUGHOUT THE DAY.
>> INTO YOUR REVIEWING THAT NOW? >> YES, WE REVIEWED THE
INFORMATION TODAY ON HOW WE CAN MOVE FORWARD. >> SHE'S ALREADY REVIEWING RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE TEAM AND THAT'S GREAT. THE OTHER THING IS IT SOMETHING WE HAVE TO LOOK AT. I DON'T WANT TO HAVE THIS AS A SUPERINTENDENT FOR THE STAFF IS IT'S REALLY HARD. THEY ARE KNOWN AS THE PEOPLE THAT KILLED CLASSROOM LIBRARIES AND WHO GOT RID OF CLASSROOM READING BOOKS. IF WE HAVE TO AND IF SOME ROOMS ARE SMALL THAT IT'S MORE DIFFICULT TO KEEP SOME OF THE TEACHERS HAVE BUILT UP OVER THE YEARS WE MUST LOOK INTO EXTRA COSTS. IF THE FIGURE OUT HOW TO BUY ACCESS TO THE LIBRARIES. SO THAT OUR KIDS CAN STILL READ WITHOUT HAVING TO TOUCH THE BOOKS OR HAVING IT PASSED BUT BOOKCASES. THAT'S A BIG NIGHT TOOK PRIDE IN HAVING. HAVING BOOKS FOR KIDS TO READ THAT WERE AGE-APPROPRIATE.
AND ESPECIALLY IN THE SIX GRADE SELF-CONTAINED WE HAVE A LOT OF PRIDE IN THAT.
THEY BOOKCASES THERE. >> ALINA TEACHER WORKSPACE INVOLVES MORE MONEY.
TEACHERS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN SOME KIND OF SHIELD WILL PROBABLY NEED IT AS WELL.
AND THEN START AND ON-SITE STORAGE CONTAINERS FOR ASSISTANCE FROM STAFF AND CLASSROOMS. FOR THOSE THAT HAVE BUT BOOKCAS THEY NEED TO KEEP THEM ORGANIZED. WERE TO NEED SOME OF THOSE. I'M LETTING YOU KNOW THAT THEY ARE UGLY. THEY'RE PROBABLY KNOCKING TO PAY SOMEBODY TO PUT MURALS ON.
EVEN THOUGH MAKES IT PRETTIER. THEY WANT TO DO IT FOR FREE. THE MONIES CAN BE SO TIGHT.
WE APOLOGIZE WE DO NOT HAVE AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF STORAGE IN ANY OF OUR SCHOOLS IN PARTICULAR BECAUSE IT UNIFIES AND COMES OF AGE. YOU MIGHT HAVE A SCHOOL THAT'S 40 YEARS OLD AND THEY HAVE AN AREA THAT'S COVERED WITH OUTDOOR WHICH DOESN'T AFFECT THEIR SQUARE FOOTAGE. ANY QUESTIONS ON SOME AND ON THE ROOMS?
>> I KNOW YOU ARE DOING THIS CHRIS JUST TO STATE FOR THE RECORD BUT WE ARE WORKING CLOSELY WITH OUR TEACHER PARTNERS TO GET THEIR INPUT AND IDEAS WELL WITH OUR TEACHERS.
IF THEY HAVE IDEAS WE ARE MORE THAN WILLING TO LISTEN. DIRECTION WERE GOING.
THE TRUSTEES SAW DRAFT VERSION OF THIS AND WE REALLY FINISHING IT UP ON THE SAME DAY.
[00:40:10]
THEY A DRAFT VERSION EARLY BECAUSE IT MATTERS TO US HEARING FROM THEM.THIS IS THE DIRECTION THAT THEY WANT THE OTHER PHOTOS AND NONPANDEMIC STREET DOWN.
PAPER THAT SOCIAL DISTANCING. IF YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO EXAMINE.
I DON'T IF YOU CAN AND WE SURE LIKE THIS BUT DEFINITELY WHEN THE PRESENTATION AND BOARD MEMBERS ARE YOU CAN ZOOM IN FOR THE PUBLIC. IT'S POSTED ONLINE AND YOU CAN ZOOM IN. YOU CAN SEE SOME OF THEM MAYBE LOOK YELLOW BUT THEY ARE NOT.
IT'S JUST A LIGHT REFLECTING. WE PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE CHOSEN ANOTHER COLOR BUT THAT WAS A PAPER THAT WAS OUT THERE. IF WE WERE TO GO IN THERE AND ACTUALLY TAKE THE DESK OUT LIKE EVERY OTHER DESK WOULD BE OUT THERE. THAT CREATES A SOCIAL DISTANCE.
WHAT WE FOUND IS IT'S POSSIBLE THAT THERE ARE DIFFERENT SHAPED ROOMS. DOUG AND HIS TEAM ARE WORKING ON THAT. AND IT'S THE NEXT STEPS YOU'LL SEE IT. 25 DESKS ARE POSSIBLE. 28 ARE REIMAGINED IF YOU JUST DON'T USE A WHITEBOARD. THAT'S WHERE WE TALK ABOUT TECHNOLOGY.
WE KNOW YOU GOOGLE. THEY CAN SHARE EVERYTHING WILL BE ON THEIR COMPUTER.
THEY WATCH THEM A LECTURE THERE. THE TEACHER CAN REMOVE SHARING.
I'M NOT ANY OF THAT IS IDEAL. I'M JUST TELLING YOU THIS IS WHAT WE KNEW WAS GOING TO BE TIGHT. ONCE AGAIN IF WE WERE TO TEAR OUT THE CABINETS CAN PROBABLY GET IN THE SCHOOL CLASS TARGET IS 32. THAT'S THE TARGET DOESN'T MEAN THAT'S EXACTLY GOING TO BE. ON BERRIES ARE EXTREMELY LIKELY IN THE SCHOOLS.
THE NEXT LIGHT WILL HELP A LITTLE BIT MORE. WE THINK IT WILL APPLY TO SEVENTH AND EIGHTH CRIMINAL SCHOOL PROGRAMS. THAT MYSTERIOUS SOCIAL DISTANCING IS UNAVAILABLE. ONE MIND THE PUBLIC HEALTH. FIGURE WITH THAT.
ARE NOT SURE IF THEY REQUIRE THEM ALL OF THE TIME OR WHEN. WE RECOMMEND THE KIDS PUT THEM ON WITH THEIR PASSING. FOR KIDS CONFIGURING X ARE FAR AWAY AND AROUND IT IT'S NOT LIKE IT'S RUNNING THEM OUT. IF YOU DO THAT THEY GO IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS AND WE HAVE TO START THINKING ABOUT WHAT THAT MEANS AND MAKE SURE THAT THE SPECIALS ARE OUT THERE MAKING SURE KIDS ARE USING THAT AS AN EXCUSE. THEY'RE DESIGNED TO HAVE TRAFFIC FLOWS LIKE HIGHWAYS. IT ABSOLUTELY CAN BE TAUGHT THAT KIDS HUG RIGHT AND HUG LEFT. IF WE DECIDE TO DO THAT AND WE PROBABLY RECOMMEND AND/OR POTENTIALLY REQUIRE MASKS. THAT'S ONCE AGAIN YOU COMING BACK WITH A REQUIREMENT OF MASKS FOR AN INTERESTING TOPIC. AT NO POINT DOES THE RECOMMENDATION SAY KIDS MUST WEAR A MASK. THE USER MAY BE NECESSARY WHEN SOCIAL DISTANCING IS PRESENT.
PHYSICAL BALERS WILL BE NECESSARY AND HIGH SCHOOLS. TEACHERS WILL HAVE LIMITED
[00:45:05]
RESTRICTIONS. MIDDLE SCHOOLS AND TEACHERS HAVE LIMITED SPACE.AND THEN IN WORKING WITH NTA AS AN ALTERNATIVE SCHEDULE. INDEPENDENT STUDIES WILL BE THERE AS WELL. THAT COULD HELP FOR PARENTS THAT FEEL LIKE THEY HAVE THE TIME FOR HOME. THEY MAKE SURE STUDENTS ARE WORKING INDEPENDENTLY AND I CAN BE AN OPTION AS WELL AS THE POTENTIAL FOR HYBRIDS. OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL COMPONENT IS A LITTLE SMALLER. IT'S BASICALLY SIX GRADE AT THOMAS MIDDLE AND THEN TO GRADE LEVELS. WE WOULD NEED 22% MORE TEACHERS TO GET TO THE 6 FOOT EVERYWHERE. THAT WOULD BE 11.67 WITH FTE AND DUAL CLASSROOMS. KIDS ARE STAYING AT THE GATES AND MORE MIDDLE SCHOOLS. BE SOMEWHERE AROUND 600 OR LESS NEXT YEAR. YOU MAY REMEMBER AT ONE POINT IT WAS OVER 1000 WHEN WE DIDN'T HAVE THE KH IN THOSE AREAS. THIS PROBABLY WRITTEN THERE BUT THERE'S NUMBER LIMIT PBS.
CONSTRUCTION RIGHT NOW IS AT JEFFERSON AND WILL BE SOME THINGS THERE.
THIS IS PROBABLY THE CHEAPEST OF THE CLASSROOMS. THIS WILL ADD ANOTHER 1.05 MILLION SO NOW WE ARE AT 4.5 I THINK. YOU SEE OTHER THINGS THAT WE LOOK AT BUT DON'T RECOMMEND. WE LOOKED AT AND DON'T RECOMMEND AT THIS TIME START THE YEAR OUT WITH DISTANCE LEARNING. IT'S PART OF OUR DISCUSSION WITH HER TEACHERS ASSOCIATION. IT'S A MORE STRUCTURED WAY THAN THE SPRING.
SOME DISTRICTS ARE EITHER ANNOUNCING ALREADY OR SING BETTER THAN A START DISTANCE LEARNING BECAUSE YOU SEE THE WORK TO THE DISTANCES ARE PUTTING INTO.
THIS IS HOW SOCIAL DISTANCING IN THE CLASSROOM IS. LESS THAN WE TALKED ABOUT THE SIX PILLARS WITH THE BIG PLAN AND NOW WE'RE BREAKING DOWN THE TWO PARTS OF THE PILLARS.
SOME ARE SAYING DISTANCE LEARNING BECAUSE IT'S EASIER THING TO DO RIGHT NOW.
WE NEVER TAKEN THE ROAD OFTEN TRAVELED BECAUSE IT'S TOO EASY TO CLAIM A PANDEMIC IN THE GOVERNMENT. IT HURTS KIDS WERE KNOCKING TO DO THAT.
THAT ENDS THE THOMAS MIDDLE. ANY QUESTIONS FROM THE TRUSTEE? >> CHRIS THIS IS LISA.
I GUESS THIS APPLIES OVERALL. HOW ARE WE WORKING WITH OUR FACILITIES AND MAINTENANCE STAFF IN LOOKING AT BECAUSE WE HAVE VARIOUS AGES OF OUR HVAC SYSTEMS. WHAT ARE THE HEALTH AND SAFETY PROTOCOLS AROUND THEM OR DO WE HAVE TO CHANGE THE FILTERS MORE
OFTEN? >> W CAN TALK ABOUT THAT BECAUSE I KNOW THAT YOU GUYS
HANDLE THAT LAST YEAR. >> OR RESEARCH KINDA HOW OFTEN THEY SWITCH OUT THE FILTERS.
RIGHT NOW WE ARE REPLACING OUR HVAC SYSTEM. AS PART OF OUR DEFERRED MAINTENANCE. WE ARE LOOKING AT THE FILTER ROTATION WITH WHAT'S BEING RECOMMENDED AND WHAT KIND FILTERS WITH HOW OFTEN. THE GROUP THAT I'M ON WAS DOING WITH THAT IT WAS ACTUALLY HELPFUL TO GET A JUMPSTART ON THAT.
>> HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION. DON'T FEEL THE NEED TO TOTALLY ANSWER.
HAVE WE STARTED LOOKING ON TITLE 24 COMPLIANCE IN REGARDS TO WHERE PEOPLE BELIEVE FRESH AIR IS GREAT BUT IN CALIFORNIA THERE IS A FINE BALANCE BETWEEN HAVING YOUR DOOR OPEN SAFELY
FOR FRESH AIR AND I WAS STARTING TO LOOK INTO THAT? >> WE HAVE NOT LOOKED AT THE DIFFERENCE YET ON WHETHER IT'S BETTER TO KEEP THE DOOR CLOSED AND MORE THERE.
>> THAT TOO AS WELL AS REMAINING COMPLIANT WITH TITLE 24 AND STUDENT SAFETY IN
REGARDS TO HAVING YOUR DOOR OPEN. >> AS WE START THE YEAR ONE OF THE THINGS THAT STARTED BACK UP THIS WEEK WAS WE GET THE ALERTS ON THE AIR QUALITY.
[00:50:02]
IT'S THE TIME OF YEAR WHEN AIR QUALITY IS POOR. THE SAFETY PIECE IS A BIG DEAL.IT'S NOT LIKE THE OLD DAYS WE CAN JUST HAVE EVERYTHING. THE FILTER THINGS THAT IS
SOMETHING THAT WE ARE LOOKING AT. >> PERFECT I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT WE ARE DOING. IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS IT'S FUNDED FROM THE STATE.
WE HAVE $20 MILLION IN FACILITY MONEY COMING AWAY. >> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? WE'RE TAKING AN APPROACH. EVERY SCHOOLS CAN GET INDIVIDUAL ISSUE.
IN PARTICULAR IT'S UNIQUE. AND HOW THEIR BUILDING WITH CONSTRUCTIVE WITH SIZE.
WE WANTED TO START THE ORIGINAL HIGH SCHOOLS FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL.
NATOMAS HIGH SCHOOL HAS 24 DESKS 6 FEET APART.T'S REALLY TIGHT.
PROTECTIVE BERRIES ARE ALMOST ASSUREDLY NEEDED IN A NUMBER OF PLACES.
THAT'S DUE TO THE EXTRAORDINARY AMOUNT AND THE CABINETS OF THE SIZE OF THE CLASSROOMS. THERE TYPICALLY 900 FT.B2 AVERAGE SIZE CLASSROOMS. IT'S NOT LIKE WE BUILD SMALLER CLASSROOMS. IT'S NOT TOO SURPRISING FOR THE AREA WHEN THE CLASSROOM FELL AND CABINETS WERE THING. THE HIGH SCHOOL CLASS SIZE TARGET IS 36 TO 1. ANYTHING OVER THAT WITH REGARDS TO RESULT IN AVERAGES HAS COSTS FOR TEACHERS WHICH HAS BEEN PRETTY TRADITIONAL. IF YOU TURN TO THE YOU CAN SEE THIS IS A SCIENCE CLASS. IT'S DESIGNED TO HAVE LAB SPACE AND CABINET SPACE.
IT'S ONE OF THE ONES THAT WAS MODERN. I WASN'T SUPER THRILLED ON HOW IT WAS MODERNIZED BECAUSE ONLY FIRST BEGAN MODERNIZATIONS WE ALLOWED TO HAVE FLEXIBILITY IN WHAT THEY'RE DOING. ONE OF THE COOL FEATURES OF THIS WAS THEY COME DOWN FROM THE CEILING. WHEN YOU HAVE A SCIENCE CLASS KIDS THIS IS A TIME TO MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE IS CHARGED. EVEN THOUGH WE DIDN'T LEAVE THE DESKS WE TOOK MEASUREMENTS.
AS YOU CAN SEE IT'S CAN BE A CHALLENGE. SCIENCE CLASSROOMS ARE BIGGER AND THE CROSS OVER 1000 FT.B2. THEY ARE WALL-TO-WALL CABINETS. THAT'S PART OF THE REASON THAT WE NEGOTIATED MO YOU WITH THE ASSOCIATION FOR PE, SCIENCE, MUSIC AND THE ARTS.
WE SELECT EDUCATE KIDS. IT'S NOT LIKE WE CAN TELL KIDS KNOW SCIENCE FREE FOR THE NEXT YEAR AND-A-HALF. WE HAVE THE WITH THE FACILITIES AND THE SPACES THAT WE HAVE ARE.
>> THE NEXT LIGHT SHOWS A REGULAR CLASSROOM. THE MIDDLE IS MOVABLE BECAUSE THE DESKS. BEHIND IT ARE CABINETS. IN THE BACK CORNER WE HAVE REALLY TALL CABINET SPACE. TO THE RIGHT I CAN TELL THAT THE TABLE.
THEN IF YOU LOOK IN THE BACK OF THE DAYS WHERE TECHNOLOGY WAS JUST MATERIALIZING IN HIGH SCHOOLS IT WAS THE 90S THAT THE DIGITAL HIGH SCHOOL RANK CAME OUT.
HIGH SCHOOLS FOR SCOTT WIRED FOR TECHNOLOGY AND IT WASN'T THAT LONG AGO.
AT THAT TIME SCHOOLS GOT ENOUGH MONEY FOR A TEACHER TO HAVE A PC OR DISTRICT WHERE I WAS FOR A MAC. WE HAD THREE OR FOUR IMACS IN THE CLASSROOM.
THERE WERE COMPUTER LABS THAT EXISTED IN YOUR SCHOOL. NOW UNLESS THEIR SPECIALTY LABS THERE KIND OF A THING OF THE PAST. BACK IN THE CORNER OF THE
[00:55:01]
CLASSROOM ARE FOUR SPOTS THAT ARE NOT SOCIALLY DISTANCE. ONE OF THE THINGS THEY ASK YOU TO DO IS HAVE KIDS FACING THE SAME DIRECTION. THESE FOUR WOULD HAVE TO TURN AND CRAM THEIR NECK. IT'S POSSIBLE BUT NOT ERGONOMICALLY GREAT.THIS IS WHERE IT GETS VERY TIGHT. I JUST MADE AN OUT THERE.
THINGS TEND TO BE OVERDONE IN MOST DISTRICTS. THIS IS VERY MUCH WAS HAPPENING WITH THOSE FOR LITTLE COPIES IN THE BACK. NATOMAS BUILDS ON THIS TECHNOLOGY CUBICLES. IN OAK GROVE HIGH SCHOOLS THEY JUST GAVE US THE TABLES AND
SENT US THE INFORMATION. >> THE NEXT ONE IS OUR INITIAL THOUGHT FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL.
ONCE AGAIN ITS PENDING REGIONAL GUIDANCE WHETHER YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO READ.
IT MAY BE NECESSARY BUT IT'S THE SAME THING AS THE MIDDLE. I WILL READ IT FOR YOU IT'S THERE AGAIN. PHYSICAL BARRIERS ARE NEVER NECESSARY.
ONCE AGAIN PARENTS WHO FEEL LIKE THEIR CHILD IS MORE DEPENDENT OR CAN SPEND MORE TIME WITH THEM CAN DO SOME INDEPENDENT STUDY. THE PARTY NEGOTIATED TEACHER SUPPORT IN NOKOMIS. THEY CAN STILL BE ABLE TO ATTEND WHENEVER THEY CAN CONVINCE THEIR PARENTS ABOUT THE EVENTS THAT EXIST. THEY CAN BE PART OF IT.
AND SO THEY WILL STILL BE A FULL-FLEDGED PART OF THE HIGH SCHOOL IF THEY ARE AN INDEPENDENT STUDY. JUST NATOMAS HIGH SCHOOL ALONE TO THE CLASS-SIZE IT'S 12.5 ADDITIONAL FTE AND WE THINK SIX OR SEVEN ADDITIONAL CLASSROOMS WHICH NORMALLY HAVE ENOUGH FOR SIX OR SEVEN RIGHT NOW. ONCE AGAIN NOT HAVING STAFF SPENT ON THE TIME I'M NOT IT'S A 1.5 MILLION IN NEW TEACHERS. NOW WE ARE IN THE 5+ MILLION DOLLAR RANGE.
WE WERE GREENER DISCOVERY? AND SO IF IT WAS TO BE YOU HAVE TO DO SPLIT SCHEDULES AND PAY FOR EXTRA TEACHERS. THIS IS JUST FLAT MAP. YOU CAN ANTICIPATE THAT EACH OF THOSE WOULD GO UP LIKE SCIENCE. IF YOU ADD IN AN INTERCOM WITH GREEN AND DISCOVERY I THINK WE'RE BEING ASKED TO CUT $10.4 MILLION WHICH IS A DECLINE IN ENROLLMENT.
WE WOULD BE SPENDING 7 MILLION TO 7 AND A HALF MILLION ALONE ON THE STAFFING TO MEET THE
SOCIAL DISTANCING. >> CHRIS, WITH A SOCIAL DISTANCING EVEN IF WE DO THAT APPROPRIATELY AND GO TO HIRE MORE TEACHERS THERE'S A SHORTAGE IN CALIFORNIA.
THERE'S A GOOD CHANCE THAT MOST OF THESE CLASSROOMS WILL BE STAFFED BY SUBS.
>> THAT'S A GREAT POINT. THERE'S A TEACHER SHORTAGE NATIONALLY AND CALIFORNIA IS A TAX PROCESS AND IT'S SO UNIQUE WITH OUR PROP 98. WE HAVE LIMITS CALIFORNIA AND IN OTHER PLACES WHERE THEY GET FUNDING FOR THEIR CLASS SIZES. IT WILL BE HANDLED WITH FEATURES. AND THEN HOMEOWNERS PROPERTY TAXES WILL PROBABLY DOUBLE.
>> ONCE AGAIN HERE WITH LOOKED AT STARTING AND DISTANCE LEARNING WOULDN'T FEEL THAT
THAT WAS THE RIGHT APPROACH. >> THIS IS KIND OF LIKE BIG PICTURE FOR THE BOARD TO SEE WITH PARENTS AND STAFF WATCHING AT HOME. YOU'LL BE A PART OF THE SCHOOL YEAR CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN. YOU ARE PART OF THE SCHOOL YEAR IN.
[01:00:05]
I'VE TALKED TO PRINCIPALS AND SAID I DON'T SEE WHY YOU CAN'T DO PTA OR PTS A MEETINGS ON ZOOM AND INCLUDE PEOPLE THAT ARE AN INDEPENDENT STUDY. PEOPLE HAVE ANXIETY OR FEAR ABOUT BEING IN PUBLIC. WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY AND ABILITY TO DO IT NOW.LET'S HAVE MORE PARENTS AND CONTINUE TO BE ENGAGED. >> I ALSO THINK THAT WITH SOCIAL DISTANCING AND PHYSICAL PBARRIERS THIS IS A GUESS. I WOULD SAY BETWEEN 60 AND 85% OF OUR STUDENTS CAN BE IN THE CLASSROOMS AT THE SAME TIME. ON CAMPUS THROUGH SOCIAL DISTANCING OR PHYSICAL BARRIERS. WE THINK THAT DIFFERENCE CAN BE MADE BETWEEN THE HYBRID LEARNING IN THE INDEPENDENT STUDY.
HYBRID LEARNING IS THE OTHER OPTION NOT BE VERY HELPFUL POTENTIALLY IF YOU'RE COMING IN. IT'S AN OPTION. THE INDEPENDENT CITY UNDER THE LAWS NOT SOMETHING YOU CAN FORCE PERIODS TO DO. ON TOP OF THAT HYBRID LEARNING AS WE NEGOTIATED AS BEST AS POSSIBLE WE WANT TO MAKE SURE PARENTS HAVE THE CHOICE AND OPTIONS. WE'VE BEEN KNOWN FOR OPTIONS HERE AND WE WORK LONG HARD HOURS. WE'VE TAKEN THE SAME APPROACH AND IT'S JUST A LITTLE THIS IS
BASED ON THE DATE AND TIME WITH PROGRESS AND ASSUMPTION. >> KIND OF LIKE A HYPOTHETICAL REAL TERM. FAMILIES CAN UNDERSTAND NOT. WE HAVE THREE OPTIONS OF THE INDEPENDENT HYBRID AND THEN YOU GO TO SCHOOL. POTENTIALLY WHAT WE JUST DISCUSSED WITH SOCIAL DISTANCING AND CLASSROOM SPACE, BUT STICK A KINDERGARTEN CLASS THAT WE KNOW WE CAN FIT 24 AND WITH BARRIERS. WITH PARENTS HAVING GREAT OPTIONS IT COULD BE POSSIBLE AT ONE SCHOOL THAT THERE IS ACTUALLY ONLY 20 KIDS IN THEIR AT A TIME EVERY DAY BECAUSE THERE'S ENOUGH KIDS THAT ARE HYBRID LEARNING LIKE YOU
DISCUSSED IN THE BEGINNING. >> COULD BE TAKING ON INDEPENDENT STUDY BECAUSE INDEPENDENT CITY WILL HAVE ITS OWN FEATURE. IT COULD BE 20 AT A TIME.
WE MIGHT NOT EVEN KNOW PHYSICAL BARRIERS EXCEPT FOR POTENTIALLY EXTRA PROFESSIONS.
>> AS A DAD THAT WAS MY FIRST THOUGHT WITH MY KIDS. >> I WAS TRYING TO PUT INTO CONTEXT AS WE ARE DOING THIS FOR WHAT IT WOULD LOOK LIKE IN REALITY.
>> THIS DOESN'T HAVE GREEN MANY SIGNS NEXT TO IT. WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT STUFFING HIS KIDS NEVER COME IN THE EFFECTS I GIVE YOU THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF 16 AND EIGHT.
WHAT IF IT'S 20 AND THREE? OR 20 AND FIVE. THEY DON'T COME ANY PACKAGES SO WE HAVE TO FIGURE THAT OUT. THAT'S WHERE THE SHIELDS BECOME IMPORTANT.
PHYSICAL BARRIERS. >> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS AND PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL OPTIONS?
>> CHRIS I DON'T HAVE A QUESTION BUT I THINK YOU SAID SOMETHING THAT MAY HAVE GOTTEN LOST IF FAMILIES ARE WATCHING THIS. IF I AM A PARENT WHO CHOOSES NOT TO SEND MY CHILD TO SCHOOL BECAUSE I'M CHOOSING TO PUT THEM ON INDEPENDENT STUDY LIKE MY KINDERGARTEN FOR EXAMPLE HER OR MY THIRD-GRADER. I STILL WANT TO GET MY CHILD THROUGH THE FLU SEASON IN THE FALL FOR EXAMPLE. MY CHILD WOULD NOT HAVE THE SAME TEACHER ASSIGNED TO THEM HAVING BEEN IN THE CLASSROOM. IS THAT CORRECT?
[01:05:07]
>> I THINK I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE SAYING. I WOULDN'T PUT IT THAT WAY.
THEY WILL HAVE THEIR OWN TEACHER ASSIGNED. >> THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYING.
IF I SEND MY CHILD TO SCHOOL AND I KNOW I WAS TO GET A CERTAIN TEACHER.
THE TEACHER THEN UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE WOULD HAVE MY CHILD ON INDEPENDENT STUDY.
YOU WOULDN'T HAVE TO ASSIGN SOMEBODY DIFFERENT. WHEN MY CHILD CAME BACK WE WERE THEN INTEGRATED BACK INTO THE CLASSROOM LIKE IN SECOND OR THIRD GRADE AND THEY HAVE A
BRAND-NEW TEACHER. >> OF THE VACCINE COMES TOGETHER IT CAN BE MASS DISTRIBUTED AND THEY SPEND MY MONEY. THEY TRY TO HIRE TEACHERS THAT
ARE AVAILABLE TO MAKE THIS WORK. >> THIS IS THE SINGLE MOST
SOLUTION. >> I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE I UNDERSTOOD THAT BECAUSE I'M SURE SOME PARENTS WILL THINK I STILL GET THE BENEFIT OF HAVING THIS TEACHER WHO I REALLY WANTED FOR MY CHILD BUT THAT'S REALLY NOT THE CASE BECAUSE THEY WILL HAVE SOMETHING DIFFERENT. UNTIL THEY DECIDE TO VISIT WITH HER CHILD IN THE CLASSROOM.
>> AND MIKE AT THE TEACHER THEY WANT TO. THEY WOULD GET DIFFERENT.
I'M LOOKING AT A SURVEY RIGHT NOW FOR AN UPDATE. THE CO'S OFFICE IS DOING THE SURVEY OF OUR STAFF AND I DON'T HAVE IT CLASSIFIED RIGHT NOW. THIS IS ABOUT A THIRD OF THE STAFF RESPONDING. ABOUT TWO THIRDS SAY THEY ARE EXTREMELY COMFORTABLE OR RELATIVELY COMFORTABLE COMING BACK AT THE START OF THE YEAR. 26 SAYS THEY HAVE SOME RESIDENCY. GOOD FOR THEM. I'M TO BE BACK.
I THINK IT'S HUMAN NATURE. THIS SMALL NUMBER THAT SAYS EXTREMELY HELPFUL.
THAT EXTRAPOLATES OUT 6% OVERALL AND THEN THERE'S SOME THAT JUST DON'T HAVE AN OPINION AT THIS TIME. WE ARE HAPPY TO MEASURE THAT TO BECAUSE EVERYONE CAN GET THEIR CHOICE TO BE A LITTLE INDEPENDENT STUDY OR HYBRID. BY MATCHING A TEACHER'S COMFORT LEVEL WITH A PARENTAL COMFORT LEVEL SOMEBODY ALWAYS ONE OF THE DOCTOR IS A THIRD-GRADE
TEACHER FOR A GREAT KID. YOU MIGHT GET HER. >> IT'S PRETTY COMPLEX.
>> NEXT SLIDE. THERE ARE SOME THINGS HERE AND THIS IS JUST REALLY THE SAME SUMMARY. WERE ABLE TO SHRUG IT DOWN A LITTLE BIT MORE.
THIS IS BEEN SHOWN BEFORE. THE NEXT SLIDE IS JUST SOME LOVING REMINDERS.
THIS IS WHY WE'RE HAVING THIS MEETING NOW. OUR EARLY START PROGRAM IF THE BUDGET IS APPROVED BY THE STATE ON OR AROUND JUNE 15 ALLOWS US TO RECORD IT IT'S 31 WORKDAYS AWAY. 35 DAYS FROM THE EARLY START. WE'RE HAVING THESE BOARD
[01:10:02]
MEETINGS NOW BECAUSE FRANKLY WE'VE BEEN WORKING THROUGHOUT THE EVENINGS.THERE IS A LOT OF TIME TO PUT THIS TOGETHER. >> ONE OF THE THINGS YOU LOOK
AT AS THERE'S NOT A LOT OF TIMES TO PULL IT TOGETHER. >> THERE'S ALSO THE TIME AND BACKLOG TO FIGURE IT OUT WITH MEASURING DESKS AND GETTING BARRIERS.
IF WE HAVE AN EARLY START PROGRAM AND MAY BE LIMITED BY JUST WHAT WE CAN DO IN PHYSICAL DISTANCING BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO PURCHASE ENOUGH BARRIERS.
>> IT'S ABOUT HALF OF WHAT WE EXPECT. IT'S DESIGNED TO BE
INTENTIONALLY 12 TO 1. >> THE FIRST OF 2021 SLATED FOR AUGUST 13.
53 WORKDAYS UNTIL STUDENTS RETURN. >> REALLY NEED THE BOARD TO UNDERSTAND THAT WE HAVE LESS PEOPLE AT THE DISTRICT OFFICE AND OUR ELEMENTARY PRINCIPLES ARE OFF FORK SCHEDULES NEXT WEEK. THIS IS HOW MANY WORKDAYS WE HAVE WITH TWO THIRDS OF YOUR SENIOR LEADERS WORKING BEYOND THE WORK CALENDAR.
THIS IS DESIGNED TO GET FEEDBACK FROM YOU IF WE ARE HEADING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.
AS SOON AS THE STORY RELEASES WE WILL AFFORDED TO USE YOU CAN READ IT.
IT REALLY IS USER-FRIENDLY. I FOUND A VERY HELPFUL. IT HAS BOTH GUIDANCE THAT DOESN'T TIE YOUR HANDS IT IS QUESTION THAT EVERYONE SHOULD CONSIDER.
>> THAT'S EXACTLY RIGHT. >> OF STUFF HAS TO GO TO WORK WITH THE PRINCIPLES AND OR IF THE PENCILS ARE OFF DUTY AND CAN COME BACK. THEY GO IN EACH ROOM WITH FURNITURE AND THEY TALK ABOUT MIDDLE SCHOOLS USING TABLES. THAT'S MORE MONEY.
WE INVITED AND ACCEPTED VISITS SO WE HOPE YOU DO THAT NEXT WEEK.
WE WANT TO WALK HIM THROUGH IT THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AS WELL. THERE'S SOMETHING DIFFERENT WHEN YOU HAVE A TAPE MEASURE IN YOUR HAND. I THINK ONCE WE DO THAT WE CAN START NEGOTIATING. WE'RE GOING TO NEED TO ADDRESS THE RESOLUTION 2013 PASSED
APRIL 8 BY THE BOARD. >> I THINK THE FINAL TWO SLIDES ARE PARENT SUMMARIES.
THIS IS SOMETHING WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU TAKE A PICTURE OF EITHER NOW OR LATER.
IF PARENTS ASK YOU THIS SOMETHING YOU COULD USE IN THE INTERIM.
IT'S A COMMUNICATION IN A MESSAGE IN A NARRATIVE FORMAT THAT SAYS THE SAME THING.
BEFORE I GIVE YOU TIME TO READ THIS ANY FEEDBACK FROM TRUSTEES ABOUT THE DIRECTION WE ARE HEADING? WE NEED TO HEAR NOW IF WE HAVE TO PIVOT.
>> TRUSTEE MEANS YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? >> NO QUESTIONS.
>> WE JUST WANT TO THANK EVERYBODY THAT'S INVOLVED. THIS IS A LOT OF WORK THAT YOU GUYS HAVE DONE. HOPEFULLY IT DOESN'T COST AN ARM AND A LEG FOR THE
PARTICULAR EVENT. >> TRUSTEE .SICK? ANY QUESTIONS?
[01:15:09]
>> WE TRIED SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT THIS EVENING. ACTUALLY WROTE DOWN THE QUESTIONS INSTEAD OF ASKING THEM TO SEE IF THEY GOT ANSWERED.
ACROSS THE COUPLE OFF MY LIST. THE FIRST ONE IS THINKING ABOUT THE SCREENING AT HOME.
THINKING ABOUT THE MESSAGING BECAUSE IN YOUR PAST WE TALKED ABOUT BEING IN SCHOOL THE MESSAGE HAS BEEN IF YOUR KIDS HAS A COLD SEND THEM TO SCHOOL. I KNOW THE GUIDANCE I'VE BEEN SEEING FOR MY OWN WORKPLACE IS TAKING A 180 SHIFTS. I THINK IT'S CAN BE AN ONGOING CHALLENGE. I'M HOPING THAT WHEN WE DO HAVE A CHILD OF PROVIDING HYBRID INSTRUCTIONS ON THE FLY AND THINGS OF THAT NATURE. SO IF YOUR KID DOES HAVE TO BE OUT THERE BEING CAUTIOUS AND THEY DON'T KNOW IF THEY JUST HAVE A COLD OR COVID-19.
SINCE WE'RE MOVING IN THIS DIRECTION JUST ONE THOUGHT THAT I WANTED TO PUT OUT THERE.
IT BRINGS UP A RELATED QUESTION. I SHOULD KNOW THIS IS A APPARENT BUT IT'S NOT REALLY AN ISSUE FOR ME. HOW DOES A CHILD HAVE TO BE IN
ORDER TO BE LEFT UNATTENDED AT HOME? >> THE LEGAL AGE?
MAYBE 10 YEARS OLD. >> I'M THINKING THAT THAT WOULD PROBABLY BE A GOOD THING TO VERIFY BECAUSE THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS THAT GIVES ME SOME OF THE GREATEST INKS.
I'M THINKING ABOUT THE STUDENTS AND THOSE FAMILIES THAT ARE BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE. THEY DON'T HAVE THE ABILITY TO STAY AT HOME AND SO THAT'S WHY I APPRECIATED EVERYTHING THAT WAS SAID TONIGHT. THAT WAS JUST ONE QUESTION.
>> CHRIS OR SCOTT, I CAN JUST GIVE IT TO YOU NOW. THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA HAS NO MINIMUM AGE BY WHICH A CHILD CAN BE LEFT HOME ALONE. PER THE DEPARTMENT OF
EDUCATION. >> FOR FUTURE BOARD MEETINGS I KNOW THAT IT'S APPRECIATED.
IT'S CHANGING BY THE DAY. JUST IN THE LAST WEEK I'VE SEEN TWO DIFFERENT ARTICLES WITH TWO DIFFERENT CDCS ISSUES. EVERYTHING IS EVOLVING. WITH THAT AS WE START TO DEVELOP WHATEVER HYBRID OPTIONS ARE THOSE THAT ARE RENEGOTIATED AS WELL.
THAT'S WHAT I HAVE AFTER THAT LINK THE THOROUGH INVESTIGATION.
>> THANK YOU. TRUSTEE GRANT? >> NO QUESTION.
>> THERE'S REALLY NO QUESTIONS BUT MY THOUGHT IS EITHER ANY STRUCTURAL CHANGES IN SET OF QUESTIONS? I WOULD HATE TO SEE US INVEST MONEY MODIFYING CLASSROOMS, THE CABINETS AND BOOKCASES. HOPEFULLY WE CAN SPEND THE MONEY ANOTHER WAY THAT WILL BENEFIT KIDS. WHO KNOWS HOW LONG IT COULD BE. WE PUT THE STRUCTURES BACK IN PLACE. WE WANT TO THINK ABOUT OTHER ALTERNATIVES.
[01:20:18]
WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEE WHAT PLANS ARE SCHOOLS COME UP WITH. >> JUST FYI YOUR INTERNET IS HAVING YOU COME IN AND OUT A LITTLE BIT TONIGHT. WE TOTALLY UNDERSTOOD WHAT YOU WERE TRYING TO TALK TO US ABOUT REGARDING NOT WANTING STRUCTURES REMOVED AND SPENDING
MONEY ELSEWHERE. >> I TO JUST ONE ECHO AND THANK EVERYONE FOR THIS.
CHRIS I HAVE A QUESTION. ARE WE SENDING OUT A PEER QUESTIONNAIRE? I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT THAT PARENTS NOW THAT THIS IS OUT THERE ONCE WE SEND THIS OUT HAVE TIME TO GET FEEDBACK AND ASK WHAT THEIR COMFORT LEVEL IS AS MUCH AS WE ARE ASKING STAFF? I THINK IT'S TIME TO DIG A LITTLE DEEPER WITH OUR PARENTS IS MORE INFORMATION TO COME
OUT. >> I KNOW IF WE PUT THE PRESENTATION BACK UP WITH CONFESSIONAL LOST TO. THE NEXT PAGE TALKS ABOUT THE EARLY START PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS WITH MEDIATION NEEDS. AND THEY BEGIN JULY 20 AND PARENTS HAVE OPTIONS.
PARENT MEDICATION IS COMING SOON. IT'S JUST TO REMIND EVERYONE THAT THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL WAS A WEEK AGO. WE'VE DONE THIS AND WE'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT IT FOR A WHILE TO PUT IT TOGETHER IN SEVEN DAYS.
WE ARE ABSOLUTELY CAN BE COMPUTING COMMUNICATE WITH PARENTS TO SENSE WHAT THEIR
INTEREST IS. >> I FIGURED I WOULD JUST HADN'T SEEN THE SLIDE AND
FORGOT IT. WE APPRECIATE IT. >> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS
TRUSTEES? >> THAT IS NOW THE END OF OUR PRESENTATION.
WE ARE MOVING ON TO OUR ACTION ITEMS. MISS BOOTH DID WE RECEIVE ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS FOR EITHER OF THE ACTIONS ON TONIGHT'S AGENDA?
>> WE DID NOT RECEIVE ANY COMMENTS FOR EITHER OF THE ACTION ITEMS.
>> GREAT, THANK YOU SO MUCH. AND SO NOW WE'RE MOVING ON TO ACTION ITEM A. IT'S TO PRESENT
[Item V A]
ADDITIONAL BUDGET UPDATES AND IMPROVEMENT RECOMMENDATIONS AND RECOMMENDED ADDITIONAL BUDGET REDUCTIONS. DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT WILL BE PRESENTING.>> I'LL BE PRESENTING AND WALKING YOU THROUGH THIS. >> THERE MIGHT BE SOME USER
ERROR BECAUSE I'M NOT SEEING THE SHIRT SCREEN ANYMORE. >> I TOOK IT DOWN ABOUT THE
BACKUP. >> THIS IS THE SPREADSHEET. FOR THOSE THAT ARE GOING TO ATTEMPT AT HOME THE NEON GREEN ALONG WITH THE 80S THAT WERE APPROVED FROM INITIAL RECOMMENDATIONS SHOWS $5.36 MILLION IN REDUCTION FOR SHIFTS MADE LAST WEEK.
THE BOARD MADE SOME GOOD RECOMMENDATIONS BEYOND NOT. THESE ARE THINGS THAT ARE DECISIONS THAT ARE ALREADY MADE. THE ONES IN YELLOW ARE THINGS THAT YOU HAVE SEEN BEFORE AND STAFF IS ASKING FOR APPROVAL FOR THOSE ITEMS. WE HAVE IT A FEW THINGS WERE MADE ADJUSTMENTS BASED ON YOUR FEEDBACK.
[01:25:04]
IT SHOULD BE ROAST 17. TO CREATE AN INCOME BASE WITH A NUMBER OF TEST SPACES.THE FAMILY HAS ONE KID TAKING ONE EXAMINE ANOTHER TAKING TWO. IT'S A LOT OF MONEY.
WE'RE GOING TO FIGURE OUT A TEAR-BASED FAMILY CONTRIBUTION SENSITIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS AND MAKES FAMILIES PAY FOR THE EXAMS AND WHAT WE ARE PROPOSING IS CUTTING THAT IN HALF. THERE IS SOME FEDERAL STIMULUS MONEY THAT COMES IN TO RESTORE THAT. WE ARE RECOMMENDING TO PULL BACK ON THE RECOMMENDATION FOR REDUCED SERVICES AND TUTORING. TYPICALLY MONEY FALSE TO THE BOTTOM TO BE HONEST IT IS WHEN WE PUT THAT MONEY FORWARD. IT'S A SYMBOLIC NATURE OF HAVING IT THERE TO SHARE WITH TECHNOLOGY BEING MORE ONLINE AND ZOOM TUTORING OPPORTUNITIES.
THERE ARE STILL MORE MONEY LEFT IN THE POT. THE MONEY.
THE BOTTOM AND HELPS US. >> THAT WAS I THINKING THERE. WE HEARD FROM ON THOSE ITEMS LAST WEEK. WE ARE ASKING FOR TRUSTEES TO DO SOMETHING TODAY.
I CAN NOW GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE SO I CAN SHARE WITH YOU THE PESKY THING.
NOW WERE TALKING ABOUT THE PUBLIC. PRESIDENT CAME UP WITH THAT WHICH IS A GOOD IDEA. WE'VE A POT OF INSTRUCTION THAT THE PORT GAVE FOUR I ARRIVED WHERE EACH TEACHER GETS TO TAP INTO THE INSTRUCTIONAL FUNDS. IT'S NOT ANYTHING WOULD WANT TO HAVE A FAIR BUT WE NEED TO CUT A LOT OF MONEY. IT'S 24 MILLION IN ONE YEAR.
THE PRESIDENT GIVE UP THE IDEA TO GIVE UP ON THE TECHNOLOGY. USES 230 CAN ONE TIME MONEY AND TEACHERS ARE STILL ABLE TO TAP INTO THE INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPLY POT THIS YEAR.
IT'S IMPORTANT ESPECIALLY NOW THAT YOU'VE LOOKED AND SEEN OUR VISITS.
IT'S ONE THING TO TALK ABOUT IT AND THEN WHEN YOU'RE WALKING ON CAMPUS AND SEEING HOW TIGHT IT'S GONNA BE WITH KIDS NOT SHARING WHITEBOARD MARKERS IN THE SAME WAY I THINK IT'S GREAT THAT WE HAVE THAT POT STILL THERE BUT IT WOULD BE SHIFTED TO ONE TIME MONEY.
IT WOULD SAVE $460,000 IN THE SECOND AND THIRD YEAR. WE CAN KEEP FUNDING AT ONE TIME. THAT WOULD BE THE STEPS RECOMMENDATION COMING FROM THE TRUSTEE AND WE APPRECIATE THE IDEA. THE STATE HAS NOT ALLOWED THE MEANS TO BE REDUCED BUT WE'VE ASKED IF THAT IS ALLOWED TO HAVE US HAVE THE ABILITY TO DO THAT. YOU'LL SEE WHY LATER. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND ELIMINATING IT. AT THIS POINT IN TIME WE DON'T RECOMMEND BUDGET REDUCING IT.
AND THEN GLUE DOES NOT HAVE ITS OWN KEY BUT IT'S THERE TO REMIND ME TO NOT HER NEW LOVER OUT. IT IS USED BY SOME THAT LIKE HAVING THE PORTABILITY OF IT BUT IT IS NOT USED BY MANY. THEY'LL BE $15,000 AND I KNOW LEADERSHIP GOES THROUGH SOME OF YOUR HEAD. WE FIND A BETTER THEM A CROWN. MAKING YOUR OWN COST MORE THAN FINDING A BETTER ONE. IT'S ON A BUDGET REDUCTION ITEM.
WE HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A REPLACEMENT WE JUST HAVE NOT FOUND ONE THAT IS ANYTHING BUT THE POCKET VERSIONS. OUR WEBSITE HAS MOBILE VERSIONS THAT YOU CAN GO TO ANYWAYS.
YOU CREATE A FOLDER ON YOUR PHONE YOU CAN ADD FOUR OR FIVE THINGS EVERY DAY.
THE WENT UP A LITTLE BIT AND IT'S A CONSULTANT SHIFT.
WE CAN PUT A LITTLE BIT OF EXTRA CONSULTING IN THERE WHICH WILL BE AN ILLUMINATION WITH
[01:30:01]
30,000 OR SO. WE WOULD HAVE TEACHERS WITH CONTRIBUTIONS OF 100%.WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR HALF OF IT. THIS IS NOT AN ILLUMINATION.
THIS IS THE NEW TEACHERS HAVING TO PAY THEIR CREDENTIALS RENEWED THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING THAT WE WOULD VERY MUCH ENCOURAGE THE BOARD ON DOING. IT'S BEEN A NICE RECRUITING TOOL FOR US. I SUSPECT A LOT LESS WILL BE DOING IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF
YEARS. >> THE FINAL TWO ITEMS. THERE'S A POTENTIAL SHIFT USED TO BE CATEGORY OF ECONOMIC IMPACT FOR 25% REDUCTION AT THE SITE.
THERE ARE SOME SHIPS COMING IN WILL BE TALKING ABOUT IT IN THE LAST BOARD MEETING IN JUNE.
THERE IS ENOUGH MONEY THIS YEAR THAT WE CAN KEEP A NUMBER OF SCHOOLS IN AREAS WHERE THE SHIPS ARE HAPPENING. IT FREES UP BASICALLY 600,000 AND THEY MOVED BY THE YEAR BUDGET. WITH THE MONEY FROM THIS YEAR THE NUMBER OF SCHOOLS BEING KEPT WHOLE AND SOME OF THEM HAVE TO SPEND THE MONEY. TALKING ABOUT DISTRIBUTING TITLE I WITH DIFFERENT NEEDS AND OTHER SCHOOLS. THERE WOULD BE AN IMPACT BUT IT WOULD BE A SMALL ONE LESSON THE P25% AND IT'S A SIGNIFICANT MULTIYEAR SAVINGS IF THERE STIMULUS MONEY WHICH WOULD BE IN THE TOP TWO ARE THINGS THAT WILL BE BRINGING.
>> CHRISTINA CAN YOU SCROLL DOWN TO THE BOTTOM? >> IF THE BOARD ACCEPTS THOSE RECOMMENDATIONS THAT WOULD BE $7.5 MILLION OF OUR CUTS AND REDUCTIONS.
OUR TARGET WAS TO GET TO THE 7 MILLION THIS YEAR VERSUS JUST UNDER 70%.
WHO WOULD BE EXCEEDING OUR TARGET BUT WE WOULD BE DEFICIT SPENDING.
WE WOULD BE DEPLETING OUR RESERVES WITH THE GAP BECAUSE $10.4 MILLION IS WHAT WE HAD TO CUT. INITIALLY IT WAS EVERY 4000. THAT SECOND LINE THAT WE HAVE SINCE CALIFORNIA WHEN YOU'RE CUT OF AROUND 10% AND CHANGE. THERE'S THE SAME OF THE BOARD APPROVES THE OUT OF THE 10.4 MILLION. WE'VE BEEN MAKING 71.8% OF REDUCTIONS OR SHIFTS. IF THE BOARD SUPPORTS RECOMMENDATIONS TO DECREASE THE MAINTENANCE TO 1% OF THE STATE WOULD MAKE THAT POSSIBILITY THEN SUDDENLY TO REOPEN 80% WITH WHAT WE NEEDED TO CUT. WE WENT THROUGH THIS WITH ONLY ONE POTENTIAL TOAST OF HAVING A JOB SHIFT THAT MIGHT AFFECT HOURS A LITTLE BIT. OTHER THAN THAT THERE WOULD BE JOBS LOST BUT NOT ONE WOULD LOSE A JOB. THERE BE NO HOURS REDUCED WHEN WE HAVE THE SINGLE REVISED WHEN YOU'RE CUT ON THE SCHOOL DISTRICTS.
THAT IS WHAT WE ARE ASKING FOR AND ASKING THE PROOF BOARD TO SOMETIMES IT'S BETTER WHEN THE
[01:35:18]
CONVERSATION. URGENCIES ARE OKAY WITH US GOING BACK WHEN WE CAN SEE EVERYBODY AND HAVE A CONVERSATION AND THIS BRINGS BACK UP JUST ASK FOR IT.>> MY THOUGHT PROCESS AS WE MOVE FORWARD WITH THIS IS AS I GO THROUGH AND ASK EACH BOARD MEMBER FOR COMMENTS IF THERE ARE ANY OF THE ITEMS THAT ARE PRESENTED AS A STAFF RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU INDICATE THAT YOU HAVE A CONCERN WITH THEM BECAUSE I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE A COUPLE OF STEPS AS WE TALK ABOUT WHERE WE HAVE APPROVAL AND CONCERNS.
THE ONES THAT WE HAVE AN AGREEMENT ON ITS VOTE ON THOSE AND GET THEM OFF TO TAKE EACH ITEM THAT THEY MAY BE DISAGREEMENTS ON INDIVIDUALLY. ARE WE OKAY WITH THAT PROCESS?
>> YES. >> YI WILL NOW REVERSE REQUEST. >> HAVE A QUESTION.
I THINK ON OCCASION WE HAVE PAID THE FEES FOR TEACHERS THAT SERVED THAT MAYBE THEY HAD A SPECIALTY. DO WE STILL HAVE THAT MONEY? I KNOW THAT'S NOT A LARGE AMOUNT BUT IS THAT STILL AN OPTION THAT THE COMPANY COMES INTO OUR DISTRICT AND WE CAN PAY THE FEES TO HELP GET THEM FOR THEIR CREDENTIALS OR WHATEVER IT MAY BE ALONG THE WAY WITH SOMEONE WILLING TO SWITCH OVER EATING FEES PAID. IS THAT STILL OPTION?
>> I WILL START WITH THIS. IT'S NOT APPEAR. IF WE DO NOT I'M ASKING BECAUSE OF THE NEW TEACHER. WE ARE ASKING TEACHERS TO PAY PART OF THEIR FEES.
I'M JUST ASKING THAT IT'S BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION AND I HOPE IT DIDN'T EXCLUDE ANOTHER
SITUATION. >> I WANTED TO PASS IT UP AND SAY AE THERE EXAMPLES THAT YOU
GIVE AND ARE WE COMING UP WITH THAT MONEY. >> I WOULD SAY IT'S VERY RARE THAT THE SITUATION COMES UP AND IT WOULD BE SOMETHING LIKE A ONE-TIME EXPENSE FROM OUR DEPARTMENT. IT'S NOT A VERY GOOD SITUATION TO BE HONEST THOUGH YOU ARE ASKING US TO ELIMINATE? CAN YOU EXPLAIN TO ME, DO WE HAVE A PLAN OF ACTION FOR THOSE SINCE I KNOW HOW CRITICAL IT IS TO HAVE A VP AT THOSE TWO SCHOOLS.
>> WE ALWAYS HAVE A PLAN. SOMETIMES IT WORKS AND SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T.
WE'VE BEEN WORKING FOR A COUPLE YEARS NOW. THE BUDGET PRESENTATION IS ONE THAT WAS NEEDED AND WE SURE THE IDEAS THAT CAN BE FUNDED NOW. WE WANTED TO LOOK AT THE
ELECTIVES EXPANSION. >> TRUSTEE READY ARE YOU COMFORTABLE LEAVING THAT ON? WOULD YOU LIKE THAT SEPARATE FROM THE INDIVIDUAL VOTE DISCUSSION?
>> I JUST HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT LEAVING IT ON BUT I RECOGNIZE THE ECONOMIC IMPACT IT WILL
[01:40:01]
HAVE FOR TONIGHT'S BUDGET. FOR NOW WILLING TO LEAVE ON. >> WILL GET TO THE END I WILL
GO THROUGH WAS ON THE MOTION OF WHAT WE ARE APPROVING. >> TRUSTEE GRANT?
QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS? >> I'M CONCERNED ABOUT THE WHOLE THING BUT I DON'T HAVE
ANY QUESTION. >> DO YOU HAVE ANY ITEMS THAT YOU WOULD WANT TO HAVE
DISCUSSED. >> NOT PARTICULARLY. I THINK IT SUCKS BUT I SAID THIS LAST WEEK. IT'S JUST NOT THE OPTIONS. WHEN I WAS LIKE TO ASK FOR ANOTHER TIME IS WHAT TYPE OF SAVINGS ARE WE ACCRUING ANY FOR NOT HAVING FACILITIES USED ON A DAILY BASIS. THAT COULD BE DIFFERENT CONVERSATION.
>> TRUSTEE TOXIC? >> NO ITEMS THAT I WANT TO PUT THIS TIME.
I THINK I'LL ECHO THE COMMENTS OF CHESTY GRANT. THIS SUCKS.UT IT IS A PHYSICAL REALITY THAT WE ARE IN RIGHT NOW AND I APPRECIATE THE TIME SUPERINTENDENT WITH EVERYTHING YOU. I DID HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT TO SEE THE WORK OF THE DISTRICT IS DONE TO RECOGNIZE ISSUES. FOR EXAMPLE THE PAIN OF TESTING FOR STUDENTS AND ENSURING THAT IT'S IN EVERYTHING THAT WE ARE DOING WE ALWAYS TALK ABOUT EQUITY AND ACCESS HIS DISTRICT.
WE DOING IT IN A WAY THAT PROTECTS EVERYONE. I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING THAT I WANT TO CALL. I HAVE CONCERNS WITH EVERYTHING AS A BUDGET.
>> TRUSTEE BEANS? I DID WITH TRUSTEE DAWSON SAYS CONCERNS ABOUT THE LIST TO GO INTO. WE CAN PLAN ON OPENING OUR SCHOOLS.
>> THANK YOU. THANK YOU TRUSTEES. IT'S BEEN A LOT OF WORK IN A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME THANKS TO SUPERINTENDENCE STAFF FOR DOING THIS.
ONE OF THE THINGS I JUST WANT TO HIGHLIGHT A COUPLE THINGS TO MAKE SURE IT'S REALLY CLEAR AS WE GO THROUGH THIS. YESTERDAY MORNING THE STATE SAID ASSEMBLY PRESENTED ONE BUDGET THAT WOULD HURT US MORE AND TOWARDS THE END OF THE NIGHT THE SENATE PERTINENCE AT THEIR SIDE WHICH WOULDN'T CUT US AS MUCH STORE STAFF IS TURNING TO STAY ON TOP OF THIS IN THE MIDST OF STATE BUDGET CUTS. EVEN AFTER WE TAKE THIS ACTION TONIGHT WE'RE STILL DEFICIT SPENDING BY APPROXIMATELY $3 MILLION PER YEAR.
WE HAVE $8 MILLION IN RESERVES. THIS IS A SERIOUS CONCERN NOT TO MENTION WE HAVE 8 MILLION IN RESERVES BUT WE HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH IT'S GOING TO COST FOR FURNITURE, SCHOOL ADJUSTMENTS OR REOPENING OUR SCHOOLS. THE STATE HAS COME BACK IN AUGUST WHERE THE TAX ROLLS ARE CERTIFIED TO POTENTIALLY DO MORE BUDGET ADJUSTMENTS. WHILE I AM VERY PROUD OF EVERYTHING THAT WE'VE DONE TONIGHT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO REMAIN VIGILANT AND REACH OUT TO OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS AT THE STATE CONGRESSIONAL LEVEL TO TALK TO THEM BECAUSE WE OPEN NEXT YEAR. WHAT ABOUT THE KIDS THAT LEAVE AND GO TO ANOTHER AREA.
WHAT ABOUT THE KIDS WHO ARE THERE BUT AS THE TRUSTEE BROUGHT UP THE KID STAYS HOME.
POTENTIALLY LOSE 80 THERE AND THAT WILL BE LESS FUNDING. HOW MUCH MORE IN LESS FUNDING WE GET FROM THE STATE IN THAT REGARD. IT'S REALLY SAD WITH THE URIOUS ACT IN THIS AREA. WE ARE GETTING THE LEAST BY FAR PER PUPIL FOR ANY OTHER SURROUNDING DISTRICTS. WHILE WE GOT SOME AND I UNDERSTAND THE FORMULA FOR HOW IT WAS DISTRIBUTED UNDERSTAND THAT THE SACK SITTING AT 156 FOR PEOPLE WITH TILT WHEN RIVERS GETTING 547 WITH CURIOUS ACT FUNDING IN NATOMAS WITH
[01:45:06]
156. IT DOES PUT US AT A CERTAIN DISADVANTAGE WHEN WE DON'T GET THE EQUALITY AND EQUITY THAT SOME OF OUR NEIGHBOR DISTRICTS DO.WE MIGHT HAVE THE SAME AMOUNT OF FREE AND REDUCED STUDENTS BUT ALSO TO MAKE SURE IT'S REALLY CLEAR AS THINGS ARE TO BE MORE DIFFICULT AND THIS IS JUST THAT OF THE ICEBERG.
I'M PROUD OF THE WORK THAT WE'VE DONE. IF THERE ARE NO FURTHER DISCUSSIONS OR QUESTIONS BY TRUSTEES I KNOW WITH A HEAVY HEART WE DON'T LIKE ANY OF THESE BUDGET ADJUSTMENTS AND CUTS BUT I APPRECIATE THAT THERE IS A LIST THAT THE STAFF IS KEEPING THAT DEFINITELY GETS FEDERAL MONEY AND MIGHT BE AN OPTION FOR ONE TIME RESTORE ON SOME OF THESE ITEMS. THEY'RE NOT GONE FOREVER BUT ITEMS THAT CAN EASILY BE RESTORED IF WE DO GET FEDERAL MONEY. WHAT MEMBERS TO HAVE A MOTION?
>> I MOVED TO APPROVE OF THE RECOMMENDED STAFF. >> MOVED BY TRUSTEE GRAHAM.
>> I SECOND THAT. >> SECONDED BY TRUSTEE BEANS. JIM AND I HAVE A CLARIFICATION ON THAT MOTION? DOES IT INCLUDE THE AUTHORITY IF THE STATE DOES GRANT US
PERMISSION TO TAKE HER DEFERRED MAINTENANCE ON? >> WITH THAT CLARIFIED I WILL
NOW CALL THE ROLE. TRUSTEE BEANS, I. >> TRUSTEE DAWSON.
>> WITH A HEAVY HEART MOTION CARRIES 5 TO 0. NOT TURNING ONTO ACTION ITEM B. RATIFY THE
[Items V B & VI]
MO YOU BETWEEN THE DISTRICT AND THE PARTNERS REGARDING COVID-19 RESPONSE FOR EARLY START 2020 AND 2021 PROGRAMS. ARE THERE ANY STAFF COMMENTS IN REGARDS TO THIS?>> ANY THOUGHTS. >> WE WANT TO THANK THE TEAM FOR COMING TOGETHER AS USUAL.
I WOULD MOVE FOR APPROVAL. >> A MOVE BY TRUSTEE DOSSETT. >> SECOND.
>> SECOND BY TRUSTEE ALREADY UP. ROLL CALL.
>> THE MOTION PASSES FIVE AND ZERO. TRUSTEES THAT IS THE END OF OUR MEETING. I WOULD LIKE TO CALL THIS MEETING ADJOURNED AT 7:18 PM.
THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR TIME AND CONSIDERATION AND FOR THOSE WATCHING ON THE INTERNET.
