[Item V A] [Item V B] NOW MOVING ON TO COMMUNICATIONS. HAVE YOU RECEIVED ANY COMMUNICATIONS SPECIFICALLY CSA AND NTA? >> OUR ASSOCIATION PRESIDENTS FROM BOTH WERE ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT THEIR COMMUNICATIONS VIA EMAIL AND MAY RECEIVE COMMUNICATIONS FROM BOTH ASSOCIATIONS AND THEY WERE AFFORDED TO THE ENTIRE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND THE APPROPRIATE STAFF THE SPECIFICS OF THOSE WILL BE RECORDED IN THE OFFICIAL BOARD MEETING MINUTES. >> NOW MOVING ON TO STUDENT BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS. [Item V C] BOARD MEMBER SIMEON DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO ADD ABOUT GRADUATION OR WHAT'S GOING ON? >> YOU ARE ON MUTE. THERE YOU GO. >> SO FAR DISTANCE LEARNING HAS BEEN VERY SUCCESSFUL AND ALTHOUGH THERE HAS BEEN SOME BUMPS HERE AND THERE WE WILL GRADUATE THEY HAVE PROVIDED STUDENTS WITH GRADUATION CAPS AND GOWNS. I JUST WANT TO THANK ALL OF THE STAFF, TEACHERS AND PRINCIPALS FOR THEIR HARD WORK AND THEIR DETERMINATION. THEY ARE THE REASON WHY OUR EDUCATION WORKS. >> THANK YOU, BOARD MEMBERS. NOW MOVING ON TO TRUSTEES. TRUSTEE BAINES? [Item V D] >> JUST WANTED TO THANK YOU SUPERINTENDENT EVANS FOR ALL OF THE COMMUNICATIONS YOU HAVE BEEN SHARING WITH THE COMMUNITY AND MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC. I THINK YOU HAVE DONE AMAZING KEEPING EVERYONE UP TO IN THE LAST SIX MONTHS OR SO. I ALSO WANT TO THANK EVERY STAFF MEMBER THAT'S BEEN INVOLVED IN PLANNING THE VIRTUAL GRADUATIONS AND THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO. >> THANK YOU BOARD MEMBER. >> I REALIZED TWO WEEKS AGO WE HAVE TO BE CAREFUL BECAUSE THERE'S SO MANY PEOPLE WHO THINK IF WE START NAMING THEM INDIVIDUALLY REALLY SOMEBODY OUT AND I KNOW IT'S INTERESTING BUT THIS GALLERY VIEW WE ALL SEE DIFFERENT PEOPLE ON OUR SCREEN CURRENTLY SO I HAVE CAROL ON MY SCREEN SO EVERYTHING THAT SHE'S DOING, MAKING SURE OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS AND FAMILIES ARE GETTING THE SERVICES THEY NEED. SO I CAN'T CALL OUT EVERYONE LIKE NUTRITION SERVICES ALL THE TEACHERS THAT ARE WORKING BUT I DO ALSO WANT TO CALL OUT THE SUPERINTENDENT FOR THE COMMUNICATION THAT ÃAND THE DAYS ARE RUNNING TOGETHER. I THINK IT WAS [INDISCERNIBLE] WHO TALKED ABOUT THIS, BUT I THINK IT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THIS DISTRICT AND THE WAY WE WORK TOGETHER EVERY RECOGNIZE THAT THE FIRST CUTS HAVE TO START AT HOME. AND THEY ARE NOT PLEASANT AND THEY ARE NOT FUN, AND I REALLY APPRECIATE THE FACT THAT THIS RESULTS IN A LENGTHENING OF THE RESPONSE TIME AND MANY ISSUES STARTING WITH THESE INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT MANAGEMENT POSITIONS AND RECOGNIZING THE SIGNIFICANT ONES RIGHT NOW. THE BUDGET CUTS ARE COMING AND WE KNOW IT'S COMING. [00:15:02] THESE WILL BE TYPICAL CONVERSATIONS TO COME. SO I'M JUST REALLY GLAD TO GET A CHANCE TO WORK WITH ALL OF YOU ON THIS REALLY APPRECIATE EVERYONE ÃNOT COHESIVE FRONT BECAUSE WE TACKLE THIS CRISIS AND SPECIAL THANKS TO ALL THE STAFF WHO HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH THOSE GRADUATION CEREMONIES TOGETHER AND I LOVE THE FACT WE ARE DOING IT IN-HOUSE WITH OUR STAFF.SO THANK YOU ALL AND FOR EVERYONE ELSE THAT I LEFT OUT PLEASE EMAIL OR TEXT ME AND I WILL BE SURE TO RECOGNIZE YOU TOO. >> TRUSTEE GRANT? >> I WANT TO REMIND EVERYONE SUNDAY IS MOTHER'S DAY SO HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL OF THE BOMBS AND ALL THE MOMS ON THE BOARD. THERE'S NO EXCUSE TO NOT CALL YOUR MOM. SOMEBODY CAN BE APPRECIATED IF SOMEBODY THAT WAS A MENTOR TO YOU. I WANT TO ALSO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO WISH MY OWN MOTHER ON THE RECORD PATRICIA SMITH GRANT A HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH AND YOU'VE BEEN THERE FOR ME SINCE DAY ONE AND AS THE OLD TUPAC LINE WOULD SAY THERE'S NO WAY I CAN PAY YOU BACK. >> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE GRANT. YOU ARE ON MUTE, SUSAN. FOLLOW, THAT'S NOT ALWAYS EASY. THANK YOU FOR SETTING ME UP. I WENT TO COME UP WITH ANOTHER LINE PABLO ESCOBAR ON THE SAME LEVEL EVERYBODY ELSE HAS WHAT I THINK I WANT TO SAY IS I AM JUST SO PROUD OF THE WAY THINGS HAVE OCCURRED IN THIS DISTRICT. SO RESPONSE TIME AND MEETING THE NEEDS OF THE KIDS AND FAMILIES. TRUSTEE KAPLAN AND I SERVE ON A COUPLE OF OTHER COMMITTEES AND WE MET AGAIN TODAY AND THEN LISTENING TO SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS AROUND OUR REGION AND IT'S KIND OF LIKE COMPETITION AND IT'S LIKE OUR DISTRICT IS DOING THIS. OUR DISTRICT IS DOING THIS. HOW MANY MEALS HAVE YOU SERVED? WE OBSERVED THIS MANY MEALS. IT IS KIND OF A BUMMER WHEN WE ARE ALL REPORTING. WHEN I LISTEN TO TRUSTEES FROM OTHER DISTRICT STRUGGLING WHETHER IT'S THROUGH BUDGET OR JUST THROUGH PERSONNEL ISSUES WHATEVER THEY NEED REGARDING PRESS COVID-19 I'M JUST ALWAYS REALLY PROUD OF WHAT WE HAVE DONE TO DATE. SO I WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY AND DON'T EMAIL I WILL JUST GET THE NOTES FROM TRUSTEE DONSICK. THANKS EVERYBODY. >> THANK YOU. I WANT TO ECHO ALL OF THE THINGS THAT I WANT TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO EVERY SINGLE PARENTS AT HOME THAT IS DOING THEIR ASSISTANT TEACHING HOMESCHOOLING, DISTANT LEARNING, WRANGLING FOR THEIR SCHOLARS. AS THE PARENT OF A FIRST GRADER SPECIAL SHOUT OUT GOES TO PARENTS WHO HAVE TENDER, FIRST AND SECOND. IT'S A OT TO HANDLE. YOU WERE ALSO TRYING TO WORK, SO THANK YOU FOR PARENTS BECAUSE OUR STAFF IS WORKING SO HARD FOR DISTANCE LEARNING AND THAT ONLY WORKS WHEN THERE IS PARTNERSHIP AT HOME AND WE KNOW WE HAVE A LOT OF WORK STILL LEFT TO DO WHENEVER AND HOWEVER WE COME BACK BECAUSE NOT EVERYBODY HAS THE SAME LEVEL OF SUPPORT AT HOME. I FEEL LIKE I WAS PRIVILEGED THIS LAST WEEK I MADE IT TO ALL FOUR OF THE GRADUATION CELEBRATION, AND COUNT GIVEAWAYS FOR ALL OF OUR SCHOOLS. I THINK EVERY SCHOOL AND EVERY STAFF WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND TO MAKE IT'S SPECIAL AND TO MAKE IT EXCITING. I HAD PARENTS EMAILING ME AND ASKED ME WHAT WAS GOING ON AND THEY COULD HEAR THE MUSIC, THEY COULD HEAR THE STAND SHOPPING NAMES A MILE AWAY. STUDENTS SHOULD NOW THE WHOLE COMMUNITY KNEW WHAT WAS UP AND WAT WAS GOING ON, AND SO A SHOUT OUT TO ALL OF THE STAFF FOR THE HARD WORK THEY WENT INTO TWO MAKE SURE THAT WAS SPECIAL. THESE SERVE ON A COUPLE OF COMMITTEES AND TALKING TO OTHER BOARD MEMBERS ON LEADERSHIP, I CAN TELL YOU THE THEME WE ARE ALL ASKING FOR IS STATE LEADERSHIP ON WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE WHEN WE REOPEN? HOW IS THERE GOING TO BE [00:20:05] CONSISTENCY AMONG SCHOOL DISTRICTS, AMONGST DIFFERENT COUNTIES. WE ARE WORKING HARD AT PUSHING SMALL BUSINESS ASSOCIATION TO EVEN ASK THE GOVERNOR TO DO THE MASS PURCHASING OF PPE EQUIPMENT WE KNOW WE WILL NEED. OTHERWISE EACH SCHOOL DISTRICT IS LIKE THE STATE COMMITTING AGAINST EACH OTHER TRYING TO FIND THESE. COULD THIS BE SOMETHING THE STATE COULD TAKE ON SO EVEN THOSE LITTLE THINGS AND THEN WE HAD A MEETING WITH KEVIN MCCARTY RIDGE OF WHAT TO THINK STAFF FOR PROVIDING US A LETTER OF THE IMPACT IN THE STATE WAIVERS WE POTENTIALLY NEED AS WE MOVE FORWARD. I WAS ABLE TO PASS THAT ALONG A COUPLE OTHER DISTRICTS ARE ADDING TO THIS BUT ALSO NEITHER MCCARTHY SAY THEY HAVEN'T HEARD FROM THOSE DISTRICTS TO KNOW THE IMPACTS. I PLAN ON HIGHLIGHTING AS WE LOOK FORWARD DURING THIS BUDGET DURING THE 0809 RECESSION PROPOSITION 98 GUARANTEE WENT DOWN ONE YEAR AND $7.4 BILLION WHICH EQUALS ABOUT $1200 PER STUDENT. LEGISLATION ANALYST OFFICE LOOKING AT A MODERATE TIP AND RECESSION IS ESTIMATED 28 BILLION DOLLARS LESS OF WHICH 11.2 BILLION WOULD BE FOR PROP 98 WHICH EQUALS ABOUT $1700 CUT PER STUDENT PER 15 PERCENT OF OUR BUDGET. TIMES WILL NOT BE EASY AS WE GO FORWARD I APPRECIATE US ALL WORKING TOGETHER TAKING THAT CUT AND WE TOOK A 15 PERCENT CUT IN OUR OFFICE. SUPERINTENDENT EVANS AND I HAD [Item V E] TO LEAVE IT ON A GOOD TUPAC OR SOME FANCY MIND THAT WE ARE HAPPY WITH BUDGET CUTS >> I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING AS GOOD BUT I WILL SAY I WAS ON THE PHONE WITH A FRIEND WHO WAS HOMESCHOOLING. MY SON IS SPRAYING MY DAUGHTER WITH LEO'S AND I SAID GREAT. LOG PPE MINUTES. SO TO THE OTHER ÃTWO ECHO TRUSTEE KAPLAN THANKS TO THE PARENTS WHO ARE DEFINITELY A CO-EDUCATOR ALWAYS AT HOME BUT EVEN MORE THAN EVER. I WOULD LIKE TO SAY DITTO TO MOST, MUCH OF WHAT YOU SAID BUT I WANT TO THANK OUR HIGH SCHOOL STAFF FOR THE CAP AND GOWN GIVEAWAY EVENTS AND OUR PARTICIPATION OF OUR STUDENTS SITTING IN THE VIDEOS. BEFORE WE WALKED IN, I AM HEARING THEIR COMING TOGETHER WELL. OUR APPROACH WAS TO LET THE KIDS HAVE FUN SINCE THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO DO WHAT ALL THE OTHER ATTACHMENTS WERE ABLE TO DO. THE AMOUNT OF STAFF TIME IN PULLING THIS OFF IS TREMENDOUS. IN THE HOURS AND THE OUTSIDE HELP WE ARE GETTING EVEN THOUGH OUR LOCAL CABLE CONSORTIUM WHO IS SUPPORTING US IS REALLY APPRECIATED. TEACHERS, I WANT TO REITERATE. I AM HYPERAWARE THAT YOU ARE WORKING LONG EXTRA HOURS AND THANK YOU FOR THAT. AND TO OUR CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES MUCH THANKS FOR THOSE GIVING FOOD AND CLEANING OUR FACILITIES AND THOSE WHO CLEAN THE LAPTOPS SO WE COULD GET THOSE OUT. THE MANAGERS WHO LET ALL THAT. THE IDEA THAT ANY OF THIS COULD BE DONE WITHOUT MANAGEMENT PULLING TOGETHER IS JUST NOT TRUE. AND IT'S 18. IT'S BEEN A TEAM EFFORT AND IT HAS BEEN MUCH APPRECIATED, BUT I ALSO WILL END WITH BUDGET NEWS. IF ANY OF YOU GOT A CHANCE TO WATCH THE GOVERNOR TODAY I DID NOT BUT I HAD SOMEONE TAKE NOTES FOR ME AND APPARENTLY TODAY IN HIS PRESS CONFERENCE GOVERNOR NEWSOM ACKNOWLEDGED WHAT WAS REFERRED TO AS THE HARSH REALITIES OF OUR TIME. HE MENTIONEDB&", JAW DROPPING UNEMPLOYMENT FIGURES NOW AT MORE THAN 4 MILLION UNEMPLOYED IN CALIFORNIA. AND MORE THAN 10 BILLION OUT-OF-POCKET UNEMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE WITH MORE THAN 2 BILLION OF COMMON SENSE JUST SUNDAY. SO PEOPLE GO WHERE IS THE MONEY SHOWING FOR US FOR A LARGE PORTION OF IT IS GOING AND HOPEFULLY KEEPING AS MANY FAMILIES AS WE CAN AFLOAT. I WANT TO RECOGNIZE AS EDUCATORS THE GOVERNOR RIGHT OFF THE BAT FUNDED EDUCATION AND FRANKLY OUR PAYCHECKS CONTINUE TO BE DEPOSITED. [00:25:02] I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT AS EDUCATORS WE RECOGNIZE THAT. AND THAT NOT EVERYONE IS IN THAT SAME SITUATION. WE'RE DEFINITELY WORKING HARD FOR IT AND PROBABLY IN SOME CASES EVEN HARDER THAN NORMAL. I THINK IT NEEDS TO BE HONORED AND RECOGNIZED AS GOVERNOR NEWSOM SAID TODAY REVENUES IN CALIFORNIA ARE FALLING OFF OF A CLIFF. CONSEQUENTLY REVENUES AND WE MAY REVISION BE TENS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS SHORT FOR WHAT IS NEEDED. THAT IS TENS OF BILLIONS OF B, AND PERHAPS WHAT WAS MOST CHILLING AS THE GOVERNOR SAYS HE BELIEVES THIS FISCAL CRISIS WILL NOT BE AS WE SPOKE ABOUT LAST TIME V SHAPED. IT WILL NOT BE A QUICK RECOVERY. LASTLY JUST A COUPLE OF MONTHS, HE IS CONCERNED THAT IT WILL BE ONE THAT WILL TAKE YEARS TO CALL BACK FROM, WHICH MEANS THIS IS A NEW REALITY FOR SOME OF US WHO HAVE BEEN AROUND A WHILE, A REPEAT OF 112 YEARS AGO BUT THIS COULD HAVE AN EVEN MORE CHILLING EFFECT. HE MAKES CLEAR THAT THERE WAS A PLEA TO WASHINGTON D.C. FOR ASSISTANCE NOTING THAT CALIFORNIA CANNOT GO INTO DEBT TO BAIL ITSELF OUT. BASICALLY, HE SAID, WE CAN'T DO THIS WITHOUT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. SO I KNOW I'VE HEARD FROM A LOT OF PEOPLE, THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HELPED WITH [INDISCERNIBLE] IN 2000 EIGHT OR 2009 OR 2010 WHEN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PROVIDED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO STATES TO STIMULATE THE ECONOMY WHICH ALLOWED US TO KEEP A NUMBER OF EDUCATORS EMPLOYED. HERE IS HOPING THIS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HAS THE SAME COMMON SENSE AND CONTINUES THAT PATH SO THAT 4 MILLION UNEMPLOYED DOES NOT INCREASE EXPONENTIALLY AGAIN. AND THEN JUST IMAGINE I SAID SOMETHING COOL FROM TUPAC HERE. >> THANK YOU SUPERINTENDENT [Item VI] EVANS. NOW MOVING ON TO PUBLIC COMMENT. DID WE RECEIVE ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS FOR ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA? >> MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC WERE ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT THE PUBLIC COMMENTS THROUGH THE COMET AND THERE WERE NO PUBLIC COMMENTS RECEIVED FOR ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA. >> THANK YOU. NOW LIVING ON TWO PRESENTATIONS FOR AN UPDATE ON DISTANCE [Item VII A] LEARNING. OUR CHIEF ACADEMIC OFFICER ANGELA WILL BE PRESENTING AND SHE WILL STILL SHARE HER SCREEN AND WILL BE ABLE TO ANSWER TRUSTEE QUESTIONS DURING THE AGENDA. >> GOOD EVENING, EVERYBODY. IT'S GOING TO BE NICE TO RECOGNIZE ALL OF THE TEAMWORK THAT HAS BEEN TALKED ABOUT THAT HAS LED TO IS REALLY TRYING TO KEEP OUR STUDENTS ENGAGED AND CONNECTED AT SCHOOL AS WE PROCEED THROUGH DISTANCE LEARNING. THIS IS AN UPDATE AND OBVIOUSLY THERE'S THINGS WE'RE CONTINUING TO LEARN AS WE MOVE THROUGH THE PROCESS TOGETHER AS A TEAM BUT WE WANT TO RECOGNIZE THE INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF WORK THAT'S BEEN DONE BY OUR STAFF TO GET WHERE WE ARE TODAY. SO THERE'S A FEW OBJECTIVES HERE WE ARE GOING TO HIGHLIGHT REALLY FOCUSING ON ÃYOU HAVE HEARD A LOT ABOUT NUTRITIONAL SERVICES BUT WHAT WE HAVE BEEN DOING TO SUPPORT THE SERVICE. THE FOCUS ON EQUITY WITH TECHNOLOGY AND HOW WE'VE APPROACHED DISTANCE LEARNING AND WHY WE TOOK THE APPROACH THAT WE DID, AND WE HAVE SOME INFORMATION TO SHARE ABOUT THINGS WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO AND THEN WE WILL TALK ABOUT NEXT STEPS HOW WE WRAP UP THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR AND SOME THINGS THAT WE ARE CONSIDERING AS WE LOOK TO REOPEN IN THE FALL. >> AND JUST QUICKLY MAKE SURE YOUR SPEAKING INTO THE MICROPHONE. I KNOW IT'S DIFFICULT, BUT SOMETIMES WHEN YOU GO AWAY WE CAN'T HEAR YOU. >> I AM MOVING IT RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. HOPEFULLY THAT'S BETTER. SO AS WAS MENTIONED SEVERAL TIMES, FEEDING OUR STUDENTS HAS BEEN A PRIORITY FOR US AND MANY OF YOU AS OU GO TO THE COMMUNITY YOU ARE SEEING OUR FANS AS OUR STAFF ARE OUT FEEDING STUDENTS EVERY DAY. DAY ONE WE'VE CALLED THE BRICK-AND-MORTAR SCHOOL CLOSURES ON MARCH 13 NUTRITION SERVICES ARE FEEDING OUR STUDENTS DAILY AND THEY GET A MOBILE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY. AS OF LAST WEEK WE HAD ABOUT 5600 MEALS SERVED PER DAY BUT IN ADDITION SOMETHING ELSE THAT HAPPENED WAS MAY 1 WE HAVE EXPANDED SERVING MOBILE BREAKFAST, LUNCH, SNACKS AND SUPPER TO FEED STUDENTS SEVEN DAYS PER WEEK. SO I'M SURE THAT DOUG HAS UPDATED NUMBERS BUT THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT TURNOUT THIS WEEKEND AND WE WERE ABLE TO [00:30:05] PROVIDE MANY MEALS FOR OUR STUDENTS. >> FRIDAY, WE SERVED FRIDAY MEALS THROUGH SATURDAY AND SUNDAY WE SERVED OVER 24,000 MEALS IN ADDITION, WE SERVED SOME SACRAMENTO CITY LOCATIONS AS WELL THAT CONTINUED MONDAY WITH OVER 8200 MEALS SERVED THROUGH THE NATOMAS UNIFIED THINK ADDITIONAL MEALS, 3200 SERVED TO OUR STUDENTS IN THE COMMUNITY. SO BEYOND NATOMAS. IF THAT TREND CONTINUES THAT'S GOOD FOR ALL THE KIDS OUT THERE. >> ONE OF THE THINGS HE MENTIONED WAS WE ACTUALLY PROVIDE SERVICE REGIONALLY AS WELL SO WE ARE WORKING WITH LIBRARIES IN SACRAMENTO TO FEED STUDENTS IN THE REGION. WE ARE VERY APPRECIATIVE OF WHAT OUR STAFF HAS ACCOMPLISHED IN THE LAST EIGHT WEEKS. SOME OF THE THINGS WE REALLY WANTED TO FOCUS ON IS TO PLAN FOR FOCUS DISTANCE LEARNING YOU MENTIONED COMMUNICATION. COMMUNICATIONS WITH FAMILY AND STAFF HAS BEEN KEY IN THIS PROCESS AND WE WILL TALK WHAT THAT'S LOOK LIKE AND THEN UNDERSTANDING THE NEEDS THAT HAVE EXISTED AS FAR AS HOW WE CAN CLOSE THE DIGITAL DIVIDE WITH FAMILIES AND THEN WE ALSO BUILT OUR DISTANCE-LEARNING MODEL ON THE EXISTING RESOURCES AND INVESTMENTS THAT HAVE ARTY BEEN MADE AND SOME NEW ONES THAT HAVE BEEN PUT FORWARD. WE REALLY WANT TO FOCUS ON PROVIDING ORIENTATION, TRAINING AND THE PILOTING TIME I THINK YOU GUYS ARE AWARE THOSE TWO WEEKS WE TOOK TO PILOT REALLY HELPED US FIGURE OUT OUR PROCESS AND LEARNING. SO THIS IS SOMETHING, ALL OF THIS WORK WILL BE HELPFUL FOR US AS WE EXPLORE THINGS LIKE VIRTUAL LEARNING IN THE FUTURE. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT FROM THE BEGINNING WE WERE ABLE TO UTILIZE WAS OUR PRE-EXISTING COMMUNICATION. PLATFORMS. SO WE HAVE OUR HEADLINES, WE HAVE OUR WEBSITE THAT WE USE AND WE ARE CONSTANTLY PROVIDING ROUTINE UPDATES TO THAT AND THEN WE ALSO TO RECEIVE INFORMATION HAVE OUR VERY WELL-KNOWN CCS DEPARTMENT. AND THEY WERE INSTRUMENTAL AND WE WILL SHARE DATA AROUND WHAT THEY ACCOMPLISHED IN THE FIRST COUPLE OF WEEKS OF THE BRICK-AND-MORTAR SCHOOL CLOSURES, BUT THEY WERE REALLY THAT PRIMARY SOURCE TO SUPPORT PHONE CALLS THAT CAME IN AS PEOPLE HAD QUESTIONS AS WE WERE FIGURING ALL OF US OUT. OBVIOUSLY WE USE THE SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS THAT YOU ALL ARE FAMILIAR WITH. AND THEN WHAT STARTED AS WE WERE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHERE WE WERE GOING BECAUSE WE WERE TALKING ABOUT AN EXTENDED WEEKEND. WE WERE NOT SURE WHAT THE SITUATION IS GOING TO END UP LOOKING LIKE SO MUCH INFORMATION WAS COMING IN. WHAT WE CREATED WAS A BUTTON ON OUR VACATION WAS BASICALLY COVID-19 AND SCHOOL CLOSURE UPDATES. WHAT WAS A BUTTON THAT LED TO A SINGLE PAGE THAT HAD ALL OF OUR COMMUNICATION UPDATES TURNED INTO A DISTANCE-LEARNING WEBSITE AND THE INTENT OF THIS DISTANCE-LEARNING WEBSITE WAS TO CREATE A CENTRALIZED HUB FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS AS WELL AS STAFF, SPECIAL EDUCATION IN PARTICULAR BECAUSE THERE WAS A LOT OF TRAINING AND ORIENTATION THAT WENT INTO HELPING THEM PROVIDE FOR STUDENT SERVICES AND THEN STAFF AND WAYS TO CONTACT OUR VIRTUAL OFFICES WHICH I WILL TALK MORE ABOUT IN A MINUTE. IN ADDITION WE ALSO HAD ÃHER TEAM WAS INCREDIBLE. THEY CREATED WEBSITES A BUTTON FOR EACH SCHOOL WERE THE DISTANCE-LEARNING PLATFORM. TO TRY TO MAKE IT AS EASY AS POSSIBLE FOR PARENTS TO ACCESS THE INFORMATION IF THEY NEEDED IT. WE WERE ABLE TO RUN ANALYTICS AND YOU WILL SEE HERE DISTANCE-LEARNING WEBPAGE, YOU WILL SEE THAT IT WAS ABOUT A MONTH'S TIME, THERE WERE ALMOST 2500 DISTINCT USERS ACCESSING THE WEBSITE WITH ABOUT 5600 PAGE VIEWS. AND THEN IF YOU LOOK TO THE SCHOOL CLOSURE AND UPDATES THAT COVID-19 BUTTON, LOOK AT THE NUMBER OF USERS THAT WERE ACCESSING OVER 60,000 PEOPLE GOING TO THAT TO RELY ON THAT AS A CONSTANT STREAM OF INFORMATION. THERE WERE A LOT OF OTHER ANALYTICS OUR TEAM RAN ON SOME OF THE SPECIFIC PAGES WITHIN DISTANCE-LEARNING AND I WILL TELL YOU THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF VIEWS OF THE DIFFERENT PAGES. NOW, ANOTHER THING THAT WE DID BECAUSE WHEN WE RECOGNIZE WE WERE NOT GOING TO BE TAKING AN EXTENDED WEEKEND, BUT THIS WAS GOING TO BE MORE EXPENSIVE SCHOOL CLOSURE ÃYOU WANT THEM TO READ THE SMALL PRINT?> NO, THAT'S NOT THE INTENT. I WAS GOING TO SAY THAT. WE DID A SURVEY OF THE STUDENTS. I JUST SHOW YOU THOSE IMAGES TO SHOW YOU THAT THE RESPONSES THAT WE GOT, AND IT ACTUALLY REPRESENTED OVER 8900 STUDENTS. 80 PERCENT OF OUR STUDENT [00:35:07] POPULATION, AND SO IT WAS 5300 RESPONSES AND FAMILIES IN SOME CASES HAVE MULTIPLE STUDENTS AND HOUSEHOLDS. I WILL CALL PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THIS TRAFFIC. THIS IS ACTUALLY ABOUT INTERNET ACCESS. SO THE NUMBER OF FAMILIES THAT SAID THEY HAD INTERNET ACCESS TO BE ABLE TO UTILIZE DISTANCE-LEARNING WAS ABOUT 95 PERCENT OF THE FAMILIES. AND THEN WE IDENTIFY THE FAMILIES THAT NEEDED ACCESS TO COMPUTERS WHICH LED TO OUR DISTRIBUTION PROCESS. SO FRIDAY, MARCH 13 WAS THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL CLOSURE IN NATOMAS UNIFIED. AND IMMEDIATELY WE WERE ABLE TO BEGIN COLLABORATING WITH OUR LEGAL PARTNERS BOTH NTA AND CSEA WERE ACTIVELY INVOLVED WITH US VERY QUICKLY TO MAKE SURE WE WERE ABLE TO CREATE A PATH FORWARD ESPECIALLY FOR EXAMPLES AND NUTRITION SERVICES STAFF. DAY ONE THEY WERE OUT FEEDING STUDENTS SO WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE WE CREATED A PATH FOR THEM THAT THEY WERE SUPPORTED FOR THEIR ENDEAVORS WHILE WE WERE CLOSED AND THEN WE ALSO WORKED EXTENSIVELY WITH NTA ABOUT HOW WE COULD TRANSITION TO DISTANCE-LEARNING. UTILIZING EXISTING LANGUAG IN IDENTIFYING WHERE THOSE VARIATIONS WERE NEEDED TO MOVE FORWARD AND ALSO RECOGNIZING THAT OUR TEACHERS HAVE FAMILIES AND THEY HAVE CIRCUMSTANCES THAT THEY HAD TO ADDRESS AS WELL SO WE TRIED TO CREATE SOME PARAMETERS THAT WILL ALLOW US TO MOVE FORWARD BUT RECOGNIZING INDIVIDUAL NEEDS OF OUR STAFF AS WELL. AND THEN WE MOVED SPECIFICALLY TO SOME SUPPORT FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS TO MAKE SURE WE DID OUR BEST TO PROVIDE THE SERVICES FOR THEM. SO I MENTIONED EARLIER THAT THE PILOT, I JUST WANTED TO GIVE SOME REMINDERS AND SOME CONTEXT, SO WHEN WE RECOGNIZED THEY WERE GOING TO BE HOME WITH THEIR OWN FAMILIES AND THEIR CHILDREN SAT FACING CHALLENGES THEMSELVES, WE KNEW THAT WE NEEDED TO APPROACH IT IN KIND OF SOME PHASES AND SO INITIALLY WE WANTED TO GIVE TEACHERS TIME TO PLAN AND LEADERSHIP TIME TO ASSESS WHERE WE WERE AT WITH THE EQUITY ISSUE WITH TECHNOLOGY. THAT'S WHERE YOU SAW THAT SURVEY CAME INTO PLAY. AND THEN FOR TWO WEEKS THESE WERE OUR PILOT WEEKS. SO WHILE WE WERE DISTRIBUTING TECHNOLOGY HOTSPOTS AND MAKING SURE THAT FAMILIES HAVE ACCESS, I HAVE TO TELL YOU, OUR TEACHERS WERE ALREADY ENGAGING WITH STUDENTS AND THEY WERE ABLE TO TELL US WHAT STUDENTS WERE CONNECTING WITH THEM THROUGH ALL OF OUR ONLINE PLATFORMS. SO THAT TURNED OVER VERY QUICKLY. AND THE WAY THAT OUR A-T STAFF GOT THINGS PREPARED TO GET OUT TO STUDENTS WAS PRETTY PHENOMENAL THE AMOUNT OF WORK THEY DID IN SUCH A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. AND THEN WE TOOK A BREAK. WE HAD OUR SPRING BREAK REGULARLY SCHEDULED AND THEN CONTINUED ON WITH DISTANCE-LEARNING WHICH IS ALLOWING US ÃALLOWED US TO AND WHEN OUR SCHOOL YEAR WAS SUPPOSED TO END SO WE HAD ABOUT SEVEN WEEKS OF DISTANCE-LEARNING TO FINISH OUT THE SCHOOL YEAR. SO IN PARTICULAR WE WANTED TO SHARE DATA POINTS AROUND THE TECHNOLOGY. AS I MENTIONED HOW QUICKLY OUR TEACHERS WERE ENGAGING WITH STUDENTS WAS PRETTY SIGNIFICANT. SO WE HAVE ISSUED ÃTHIS IS THE NUMBER AS OF APRIL 30 AND WE GET PEOPLE TRICKLING IN AND COMMUNICATING WITH US DAILY SO THIS IS NOT AN EXACT NUMBER. BUT ABOUT 6500 HAVE BEEN ISSUED TO FAMILIES AND WITH THAT GRAPH I SHOWED YOU WE HAVE ACTUALLY ISSUED ABOUT 370 HOTSPOTS. WE DEFINITELY WERE ABLE TO SUPPORT FAMILIES WITHOUT INTERNET ACCESS AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE VIRTUAL SUPPORT THAT COMES WITH IT. THE IT STAFF EVERY DAY ARE VIRTUALLY RESPONDING TO TECH SUPPORT NEEDS FOR FAMILIES AND SOMETIMES AS NECESSARY EXCHANGING DEVICES OR FIXING HARDWARE TO MAKE SURE OUR STUDENTS ARE UP AND RUNNING. THE RESPONSE TIMES ARE PRETTY PHENOMENAL WITHIN A DAY THEY ARE ABLE TO GET THERE ÃTHE FAMILIES UP AND RUNNING. THE OTHER THING THAT'S BEEN NEAT IS EVEN THOUGH WE'VE GIVEN HOTSPOTS TO FAMILIES AND OTHER FAMILIES HAVE TOLD US THEY HAVE INTERNET ACCESS, SOMETIMES DEPENDING ON GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION IF THE HOTSPOT ISN'T WORKING VERY WELL IF IT'S NOT CONSISTENT, WE HAVE A PARTNERSHIP WITH COMCAST AND THEY HAVE AN ESSENTIAL INTERNET PROGRAM THAT WE HAVE A PARTNERSHIP WITH THEM WHERE FAMILIES ARE LETTING US KNOW THAT THE ACCESS THEY HAVE RIGHT NOW IS NOT CONSISTENT WE CAN PROVIDE INTERNET ACCESS TO THE DURING THIS PANDEMIC AND WE ARE PAYING FOR THAT SERVICE DURING THIS TIME. >> ANGELA, BEFORE YOU GO ON, ON [00:40:03] THAT PARTNERSHIP, IS COMCAST ASKING FOR THE FAMILY TO QUALIFY OR DO WE JUST MAKE SURE THEY HAVE THE ADDRESS AND KNOW THAT WE ARE THE DISTRICT PAPERWORK? >> WE ARE THE CUSTOMER, AND SO WE LET THEM KNOW WHO IT IS AND THEY GO SET UP THE SYSTEM THAT'S NEEDED FOR THE FAMILY. >> WE HAVE QUITE A FEW HOTSPOTS AND BECAUSE WE ONLY HAD TO DISTRIBUTE 370 THAT LEFT US WITH APPROXIMATELY 1400 WE WERE ABLE TO SHARE WITH NEIGHBORING DISTRICTS TO HELP THEIR STUDENTS MEET SUCCESSFUL WITH DISTANCE-LEARNING AS WELL. HERE'S PICTURES OF PEOPLE OUT THERE HELPING OUR KIDS. ? AND THEN ONE OF THE OTHER THINGS WE WANTED TO LEARN ABOUT IS KIND OF THE ANALYTICS, THE BACKSIDE OF US. IF A STUDENT HAS A CHROME BOOK, HAVE THEY LOGGED INTO IT? OR HAVE THEY LOGGED INTO THEIR GOOGLE ACCOUNT? THESE ARE APPROXIMATE BECAUSE THEY ARE TOLD A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO OR YESTERDAY ON SOME OF THEM THE NUMBER OF CHROME BOOKS CHECKED OUT AND HOW MANY HAVE BEEN USED AND THEN WE CAN GET DOWN ON SOME OF THEM TO THE NUMBER OF MINUTES OF ACTIVITY. THIS INFORMATION IS HELPFUL FOR US AS WELL AS THE STUDENT ACCOUNT INFORMATION BECAUSE WE CAN WORK WITH OUR PRINCIPLES AND HELP CONNECT WITH THOSE FAMILIES OR STUDENTS TO FIND OUT WHAT THEY NEED IF THERE ARE ISSUES THEY ARE HAVING IS IT CAN INTERNET TISSUE, IS IT A DIVISIVE ISSUE AND SO WE ARE ABLE TO SHARE THAT PRINCIPLE. I WILL SAY THIS. THIS IN AND OF ITSELF IS NOT THE SINGULAR DATA POINT WE SHOULD RELY ON. AS I WAS LOOKING AT THIS WITH MY TEAM I SPOKE WITH THE KEY PRINCIPLES TO TRY TO BETTER UNDERSTAND WHY WOULDN'T STUDENTS BE LOGGING INTO THEIR GOOGLE ACCOUNTS TO USE GOOGLE CLASSROOM? AND WHAT I LEARNED WAS THAT SOME OF THE SITES WE DO THEY HAD SITE-SPECIFIC PLATFORMS THEY MIGHT BE USING FOR ONLINE CONNECTION TO FAMILIES AND SOME OF THOSE HAVE THE ABILITY TO CAPTURE THIS ÃAT ONE OF THE CRAZIEST WHEN WE INITIALLY WENT INTO THE MORTAR SCHOOL CLOSURES AND WE DID BACK TECHNOLOGY SURVEY, WE HAD ABOUT 80 PERCENT OF OUR STUDENTS COMMUNICATE WITH US. IN ADDITION WE THEN WERE ABLE TO ÃAS WE WERE DISTRIBUTING HOTSPOTS AND CHROME BOOKS WE WERE ABLE TO LOG WHAT STUDENTS WERE CHECKING THOSE OUT, AND THEN WE WERE ABLE TO FROM THAT POINT SAY WHO HAVE WE NOT HEARD FROM? WHO HAVE WE NOT MADE ANY CONTACT WITH. AT THAT POINT WE ENGAGED WITH THE PRINCIPALS AND TEACHERS AND SAID THIS IS THE INFORMATION THAT WE HAVE, AND IT WAS Ã THAT'S WHERE REED REALIZED HOW SIGNIFICANTLY OUR TEACHERS WERE CONNECTING THE STUDENTS IN THOSE FIRST COUPLE OF WEEKS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABLE TO SAY I HAVE BEEN TALKING WITH THIS KID ON GOOGLE CLASSROOM OR I HAVE HEARD FROM THE PARENT OF THIS FAMILY. SO FROM THAT POINT ANYBODY THAT WAS LEFT, CLASSIFIED STAFF, TEACHERS, THEY WERE REACHING OUT TO EVERY INDIVIDUAL FAMILY AFTER SCHOOL TO MAKE SURE THEY HAD AT LEAST CONTACT WITH THEM. BY THE END OF THE PILOT AND THEN THROUGH SPRING BREAK WE NOW ALL BUT APPROXIMATELY 10 STUDENTS AND AS OF APRIL 29 WE WERE DOWN TO 3 STUDENTS WE CALL OUR FORGOTTEN. WE KNOW THEY ARE OURS AND WE ARE NOT SURE WHERE THEY ARE AT RIGHT NOW. AND THAT'S A TESTAMENT TO THE WORK AND CONNECTION OF OUR STAFF. THREE STUDENTS. SO LIKE I SAID YOU MAY SEE THIS GRAPH WITH SOME OF OUR DISTRICTWIDE MESSAGE AND THIS IS NOT LITTLE RED DOT. AND THEN I JUST WANT TO CALL OUT NOW. WE ARE NOT SATISFIED THAT WE DON'T HAVE THREE STUDENTS WE HAVE NOT HEARD FROM. WE UNDERSTAND THAT IT'S JUST THE FIRST STEP. THE NEXT STEP IS TO DEFINE THE STUDENT THAT DISTANCE-LEARNING IS NOT WORKING FOR. YOU WILL NEED REMEDIATION. THIS PLATFORM IS NOT A FIT FOR THEM. AND THEN BEYOND THAT OF THOSE WHO NEED INTERVENTION. THOSE ARE THE STUDENTS THAT EVEN BEFORE DISTANCE-LEARNING [00:45:04] THEY MAY HAVE ALL OF THE TEACHERS HAVE MACBOOKS. AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE THE CHROME BOOKS INVESTED IN AND WE HAD CHROME BOOK CARTS SO ONE CHROME BOOK CART THAT WE WERE ABLE TO PULL THE CHROME BOOKS OUT OF AND THEN WE'VE BEEN A GOOGLE SUITE DISTRIBUTOR AND THE [INDISCERNIBLE] AND YOUR INVESTMENTS IN THE CURRICULUM THAT WE HAVE ADOPTED OVER THE YEARS ALL BUT ONE OF OUR CORE SUBJECTS HAS A HIGH CURRICULUM. THEN THERE'S CURRICULUM ONLINE FOR MODERATE AND SEVERE STUDENTS AND THEN EACH SITE THROUGH THE [INDISCERNIBLE] THEY IDENTIFY RESOURCES THAT ARE AVAILABLE TO THEM ONLINE THEY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO USE DURING THIS TIME. SO WE APPRECIATE THE INVESTMENTS THAT YOU HAVE MADE. SO I MENTIONED CCF'S BRIEFLY BEFORE AND I WANTED TO RECOGNIZE THE WORK THAT THEY DID. WHEN WE HAD BACK ROSHER MARCH 13 THEY WERE THE POINT OF CONTACT AND IT WAS 24/7. THEY WERE STAFFING THE PHONES DURING THE DAY AND THEN IN THE EVENING WE HAVE OUR AFTER HOURS SERVICE THAT WAS RESPONDING. FROM MARCH 13 TO APRIL 1, THEY RECEIVED APPROXIMATELY 522 CONTACTS FROM CONSTITUENTS REGARDING A VARIETY OF TOPICS. AND THEN APRIL 2 IS WHEN WE OPENED OUR VIRTUAL OFFICES IN OUR SCHOOLS AND I WILL TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THAT. THE NUMBER OF CONTACTS THE CUSTOMER SERVICE RECEIVED FROM APRIL 7 TO THE END OF THE MONTH DROPPED TO 210. AND SO THAT'S BECAUSE WE OPENED OUR VIRTUAL OFFICES. WE RECOGNIZE WHEN WE WERE GOING TO THE CRISIS AND THINGS WERE CHANGING BY THE HOUR THAT WE DEFINITELY NEEDED CCS TO BE THERE AT THE FOREFRONT. THAT IS THE KNOWN CONNECTION THAT FAMILIES HAVE WITH OUR DISTRICT. AND WE RECOGNIZED AFTER THOSE FIRST COUPLE OF WEEKS THAT OUR FAMILIES ÃWE NOW WERE FIGURING OUT WHERE WE WERE GOING WITH DISTANCE-LEARNING BUT THE FAMILIES NEEDED TO GET THAT CONNECTION AND PIECE OF MIND WITH BEING ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE SCHOOLS AND WE KNEW THAT THERE WAS ÃIT WAS NOT GOING TO BE POSSIBLE TO SUSTAIN HAVING A SMALL GROUP OF PEOPLE CENTRALIZED TEAM MANAGE ALL OF THE COMMUNICATION. SO AT THAT POINT WE WERE ABLE TO WORK WITH OUR SITE STAFF AND THEY OPENED THEIR VIRTUAL SCHOOL OFFICES. WE DID A SOFT LAUNCH AND IT WAS GREAT. WE ADDED A FEW THINGS THAT WERE ABLE TO TROUBLESHOOT QUICKLY AND WE ALSO HAD OUR VIRTUAL DEPARTMENTS AT THE SERVICE CENTER THAT WERE AVAILABLE TO OUR STAFF SO THAT WE COULD CONTINU MOVING FORWARD.SO WE WERE ABLE TO DISTRIBUTE THAT OVER TIME THE OTHER THING THAT WE FOCUSED ON IS WHILE WE WERE INTRODUCING A LOT OF NEW PLATFORMS OR EXPECTATIONS FOR HOW OUR TEACHERS USE TECHNOLOGY, WHEN I SAY THAT, I MEAN WE DID NOT ASK THEM TO USE THINGS THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF BEFORE. THEY WERE TYPICALLY USING THINGS THAT THEY HAVE USED IN THE PAST. THEY ARE FAMILIAR WITH, AND SO WE WANTED TO PROVIDE A TEACHER ORIENTATION OBVIOUSLY IS ALL VIRTUAL AND WE CREATED A PRESENTATION OF SORTS, A SLIDE DECK OF RESOURCES AND AM GOING TO SHOW YOU SIMPLE CONTENT FOR YOUR IT'S NOT THE ENTIRE THING, BUT I WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU THE DIFFERENT AREAS WE TRIED TO COVER WITH STAFF. OUR CENTRALIZED TEAM WAS DEVELOPING THIS, AND ONE OF THE THINGS WE RECOGNIZE IS WE ARE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO TELL THEM HOW TO DO EVERYTHING BECAUSE WE ARE NOT IN THEIR SHOES. THE TEACHING STAFF ARE THE ONES USING THESE PLATFORMS ON A DAILY BASIS AND SOME HAVE FIGURED OUT THINGS BECAUSE THEY ARE ENGAGING WITH STUDENTS AND DISTANT LEARNING. SO WE ARE GOING TO OUTSOURCE THIS AND WE GAVE THEM SOME RESOURCES AND THEN IT WAS PRETTY PHENOMENAL AFTER SUPERINTENDENT EVANS EMAILED IT [00:50:05] OUT AND THIS IS KIND OF THE COVER SLIDE THAT WENT WITH IT. ITHIN 1/2 AN HOUR, THERE WAS ABOUT 80 PEOPLE, 80 CERTIFICATE STAFF MEMBERS ON THAT SLIDE DECK LOOKING AT THE INFORMATION STARTING TO DROP FOLDERS AND FILES AND CREATE SOME SLIDES OF HEY THIS IS HOW I USE ZOOM AND TRYING TO GET EXTRA SUPPORT. SO I WILL JUST CRUISE THROUGH SOME OF THESE. YOU WILL SEE WE CROSSED OUT VERSION 1.0 AND MADE IT VERSION 2.0 AND THAT'S BECAUSE AFTER ABOUT A WEEK AND THE FEEDBACK WE RECEIVED WE WERE ABLE TO PROVIDE SOME ADDITIONAL RESOURCES SO I WILL JUST PURSUE THIS PRETTY QUICKLY. WE FOCUS ON THINGS AROUND EQUITY AND ACCESS AND THE BASICS ON HOW TO USE SOME TECH TOOLS THAT EXISTED IN THE DISTRICT. SO THOSE ARE VIDEOS AND DOCUMENTS THAT CAN HELP WALK THEM THROUGH USING THINGS. AND THEN GIVING THEM SOME HELP WITH HOW TO SET UP RESPONSES FOR FAMILIES AND TO SET THE PARAMETERS FROM WHERE THEY WILL SUPPORT STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES AND SOME RIDERS ABOUT USING ZOOM ENDS PRIVACY AND THINGS THAT EXIST IN THE DISTRICT AND TALK ABOUT LESSON PLANNING, ENGAGEMENT. AND WE GOT TO A PLACE ÃWE ADDED TO THE SLIDE DECK AFTER GETTING FEEDBACK FROM STAFF AND WE GAVE THEM MORE SPECIFIC INFORMATION IN ONE OF THE THINGS WE TRY TO DO IS FAMILIES ARE ASKING FOR INFORMATION ON HOW TO ACCESS ONLINE PROGRAMS, YOU CAN SHARE THIS VIDEO WITH THEM. AND SO IT CREATED LESS WORK FOR THE TEACHERS. WE WERE TRYING TO GET THEM AS MUCH INFORMATION AS THEY COULD TO JUST PUSH OUT. THEY DON'T NEED TO REINVENT THE WHEEL APPEAR TO BE PROVIDED THAT INFORMATION AND THEN JUST SOME REMINDERS, MORE ABOUT THE SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL PIECE. HOW TO TRY TO MAINTAIN RELATIONSHIPS WHILE YOU WERE IN A VIRTUAL WORLD WITH DISTANCE-LEARNING. AND THEN BASED ON THOSE TWO ITERATIONS OF THE TEACHER RESOURCES, WE STARTED DOING SOME OTHER THINGS.E HAVE A WEEKLY NEWSLETTER THAT WE SEND OUT. IT'S A ONE-PAGE NEWSLETTER AND REMINDS THEM OF WHO IS AVAILABLE TO THEM AND WHEN IF THEY NEED SOME EXTRA SUPPORT IN DIFFERENT AREAS. AND THAT GIVES THEM SOME RESOURCES. THE RESOURCES OF THE WAY. AND THESE ARE NOT NEW PLATFORMS. IN ADDITION WE HAVE A TEAM OF BILINGUAL TEACHERS WHO ARE WORKING WITH OUR FAMILIES. TO SUPPORT THEM IF THEY HAVE QUESTIONS AND SUPPORT FAMILIES AND STUDENTS IN THEIR NATIVE LANGUAGE. AND SO WE HAVE HINDI AND MANDARIN ARE REPRESENTED RIGHT NOW WITH OUR BIBLE TEACHER TEAM WE ARE VERY APPRECIATIVE OF THE EXTRA WORK THEY ARE DOING TO KEEP OUR FAMILIES CONNECTED. SO NOT TO BE LEFT OUT IS OUR STUDENTS AND OUR FAMILIES AND WE RECOGNIZE THAT FOR SOME THIS IS THEIR FIRST EXPERIENCE IN USING THESE ONLINE PLATFORMS AND SO WHAT WE TRY TO DO IS WE KNEW WE WERE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO CAPTURE EVERY SINGLE QUESTION OR THING BUT WE DID TRY TO PROVIDE SOME RESOURCES TO THEM AND WHAT WE ENDED UP DOING AS WE CREATED ORIENTATION AND WE ALSO HAVE A SITE WE CREATED A HOMEPAGE SO THEY CAN CLICK ON THAT PAGE AND RUN UP THE SPLASH PAGE OF ALL OF THE DIFFERENT DIGITAL ONLINE RESOURCES THAT THEY USE ON THE SITE. AGAIN, WE TRY TO OFFER SOME TIPS AND THOUGHTS AROUND HOW TO CREATE ROUTINES AND PATTERNS AT HOME SETTING UP A SCHEDULE, SETTING UP SPACE FOR THEIR STUDENTS TO JUST TRY TO JUST TIPS AND IDEAS FOR THEM TO SUPPORT THEIR STUDENTS. AND THEN SOME VERY TECHNICAL INFORMATION ON HOW THEY CAN ACCESS PLATFORMS AND THESE ARE ALL VERY NICELY DONE VIDEOS THAT WERE ABLE TO SHARE OUT AND THEN EXPLAINING HOW TO USE THINGS LIKE RESUME AND ACCESSING ONLINE CURRICULUM FOR [00:55:12] EACH OF THE SITES SHOWING THEM WHERE THAT CHROME BOOK HOMEPAGE AND THE SPLASH PAGE I SURE DO. AND OTHER THINGS AROUND SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT, THINGS TO CONSIDER IN A DIGITAL WORLD. KIND OF THE DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP PIECE. THINGS TO BE ATTENTION TO HIS PARENTS AND THEN INITIALLY WE HAD CCS AS A PLACE THAT THEY COULD REACH OUT TO BEFORE WE HAD OUR VIRTUAL OFFICES UP AND RUNNING. I WENT TO HAND THIS OVER TO CAROL, WHO DID A PHENOMENAL JOB WITH HER TEAM CREATING SOME ORIENTATIONS FOR SEVERAL GROUPS OF PEOPLE FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION. >> SO IN OUR DEPARTMENT, OUR MAIN FOCUS WAS ON EQUITY AND ACCESS FOR STUDENTS, SO THE FIRST THING THAT WE DID WAS SET A GOAL. WE NEEDED TO KNOW WHAT OUR END TARGET WAS AND THE GOAL WE SET WAS ALL STUDENTS ÃALL SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS WILL HAVE AN AMENDMENT TO RECEIVE VIRTUAL LEARNING TO THE EXTENT POSSIBLE. WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO BETWEEN NOW AND THE FIRST DAY OF INSTRUCTION. ONCE WE HAVE THAT WE CREATED ORIENTATION THESE WERE ALL VIDEOS FOR COMMUNICATIONS TO TEACHERS, TO CLASSIFIED STAFF AND OUR COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE AND SPECIAL EDUCATION. WE HAVE A PARENT VIDEO BEEN SO EVERYBODY IS CLEAR WHAT OUR GOAL IS AND HOW WE PLAN TO GET THERE. IN THE ÃUP UNTIL THIS DAY, WE HAVE A VERY STRONG FOCUS ON STAFF COMMUNICATION. SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WHAT WE ARE COMMUNICATING OUT IS CLEAR AND IS CONSISTENT IN ITS COLLABORATIVE. BECAUSE THEN WE KNOW THAT THE SUCCESS OF WHAT WE ARE DOING THE HOPE OF THE SUCCESS OF THE DISTANCE LEARNING FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES IS THAT MUCH STRONGER. WE WORK WITH OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS HAVE A LOT OF NONPUBLIC SCHOOLS AND AGENCIES WE WORK WITH HIM HE NEEDED TO MAKE SURE BECAUSE WE ARE STILL ÃBECAUSE THE STATE IS ALLOWING US TO CONTINUE TO PAY THEM, WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THEY WERE HELPING US IN WORKING WITH OUR STUDENTS AS WELL. WE DID QUITE A BIT OF WORK WITH THEM AND THEY WERE AMAZING. SO WE STARTED OFF WITH THE BIG PICTURE THE Y AND WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DO, WHAT OUR GOAL IS AND THEN WE INVOLVED ALL OF THE PARTNERS AND WE WERE SOLID ON OUR MESSAGING. WE CREATED A SPECIAL EDUCATION WEBSITE AND I HAVE TO BE THE FIRST TO SAY WEBSITE CREATORS. BECAUSE I NEEDED SOMETHING THAT WAS SIMPLE. IT WAS FOR OUR COMMUNITIES AND OUR TEACHERS AND PARENTS AND STUDENTS. IT WILL BE SELF-EXPLANATORY. SO WE LAUNCHED OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION WEBSITE ON MARCH 26 AND SINCE THEN, WE HAVE EDITED IT TWICE BECAUSE IT'S BEEN SO POPULAR AND WILL BE FIRST LAUNCHED IT, WE DIDN'T INCLUDE RELATED SERVICE PROVIDERS. THOSE ARE OUR SPEECH AND OUR OT, PT OUR PSYCHOLOGIST. THEY JUST HAD A SINGLE BUTTON AND THEY WANTED THEIR OWN WEBPAGE SO WE KEPT GOING BACK AND ADDING IT SO SINCE THAT TIME WE ADDED ALL OF OUR RELATED SERVICE PROVIDERS AND THE DEPARTMENTS HAD OUR OWN WEBPAGE AND THEN WE CREATED IN APRIL THE MENTAL HEALTH WEBSITE WHICH WERE VERY PROUD OF. IT OFFERS RESOURCES FOR PARENTS ON THINGS THEY CAN DO WITH THEIR CHILDREN, HOW TO TALK TO THEIR CHILDREN HOW TO MAKE REFERRALS, HOW TO GET HELP AND HAVE SOMEONE TO TALK TO. IT IS COMMUNITY RESOURCES FOR SHELTER AND FOOD AND ALL OF THOSE THINGS THAT ARE ON THE MENTAL HEALTH WEBPAGE. IT'S JUST THE BASIC WEBPAGE. SO ANGELA ASKED ME WHAT DID WE LEARN IN ALL OF THIS? AND REALLY, WHAT WE BELIEVE IS CRITICAL IS YOU HAVE TO HAVE TARGETED GOALS AND IT HAS TO BE EQUITY AND ACCESS. WHAT IS IT WE ARE GOING TO DO AND HOW ARE YOU GOING TO DO IT AND THEN THE COMMUNICATION HAS GOT TO BE CONSISTENT. EVERYBODY HAS GOT TO BE SAYING THE SAME THING. SO IN THE LAST SEVEN WEEKS, THE SSS TEAM HAS HAD OVER 600 ZOOM MEETINGS WITH TEACHERS, CLASSIFIED STAFF, PARENTS, OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS. WE HAVE TALKED TO THE ADVOCACY AGENCIES IN OUR COMMUNITY BECAUSE WE WANT TO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE HEARING SO WE CAN ADDRESS IT. SO WE HAVE ÃAND WE CONTINUE WITH OUR WEEKLY ÃOUR DAILY ZOOM MEETINGS WITH STAFF AND THEN WE ARE COLLABORATING WITH OUR TEACHERS BECAUSE WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE SUMMER PROGRAM THAT WE ARE DEVELOPING IN OUR FALL ACTIONS SUPPORT REMEDIATION INCLUDE THEIR VOICE [01:00:02] WHICH ÃWHAT IS WORKING AND WHAT'S NOT WORKING ORDER YOUR IDEAS AND HOW WE CAN MAKE CHANGES TO WHAT WE DO IS EFFECTIVE.SOME OF THE RESULTS OF THIS, THE GOAL I TOLD YOU IS THAT WE WOULD HAVE THE MINUTES FOR THE KIDS AND SERVE THEM. AND ALL OF OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS HAVE AN AMENDMENT. AND THAT IS A MONUMENTAL UNDERTAKING. OVER 1600 AMENDED IP'S WERE AVAILABLE. AND Ã >> THAT'S NOTHING SHORT OF AMAZING. >> IT IS INCREDIBLE. OUR TEACHERS ROCKED IT. I'M VERY PROUD. THEY DID A FANTASTIC JOB. 91 PERCENT OF OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS ARE DOING DIRECT VIRTUAL INSTRUCTION. ALL OF THEM ARE WORKING WITH THEIR CLASSIFIED STAFF TO PROVIDE VIRTUAL INSTRUCTION, AND BY THAT, I MEAN EVEN IF THE TEACHER IS PUSHING OUT ENRICHMENT MATERIALS AND CHOOSING NOT TO DO DIRECT, THEY ARE WORKING WITH THE CLASSIFIED STAFF TO PROVIDE THE DIRECT SO STUDENTS CAN STILL GET THE SUPPORT. AND THAT IS COMPLETELY FINE. AND THEY WENT THROUGH 14 HOURS OF TRAINING AND THEY ARE PROVIDING VIRTUAL INSTRUCTION. IT'S JUST AMAZING. 93 PERCENT OF OUR RELATED PSERVICE PROVIDERS ARE PROVIDIN TELE-THERAPY, AND ALL OF OUR NONPUBLIC AGENCIES ARE PROVIDING TELE-THERAPY. SO IT'S TRULY ÃI AM VERY PROUD OF EVERYONE. IT'S GREAT. SO AS FAR AS THE PARENTS THOUGH, TARGETED GOAL, AGAIN, FOCUSING ON EQUITY AND ACCESS AND CONSISTENT COMMUNICATION IS KEY. I SAID EARLIER WE TALKED TO SOME OF THE COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND THE COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE THAT OUR SELF APPARENT GROUP. AND ALSO AN ADVOCACY AGENCY WITHIN THE COMMUNITY BECAUSE I WANTED TO KNOW WHAT PEOPLE WERE HEARING AND FEELING SO WE COULD STAY ON TOP OF IT WITH OUR COMMUNICATION. WE ARE OVER COMMUNICATING WHICH IS SO WONDERFUL BUT ON THE OTHER HAND WE HAVE ONES THAT DON'T COMMUNICATE. IT IS NECESSARY. PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW BECAUSE IT'S THE FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN THAT CAUSES THE UNREST. SO THESE ARE A COUPLE OF WEEKLY VIDEOS. THE FIRST ONE IS JUST AN UPDATE ON WHAT WE ARE DOING. LETTING PARENTS KNOW BEFORE APRIL 20 WHEN SERVICES OFFICIALLY STARTED. HERE'S WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT. THE SECOND VIDEO IS SHOWN THERE IS ON MENTAL HEALTH BECAUSE THAT'S ONE OF THE BIG AREAS WE DEAL WITH NOW. WE WENT TWO FOR PARENTS RESOURCES AND THE BOTTOM ONE ACTUALLY LAUNCHES TODAY AND IT IS ON BEHAVIOR SUPPORT AND AS PART ONE EVERY TWO PART SERIES. SO COMMUNICATING WITH PARENTS IS A FOCUS. NOW, SOME DATA FOR YOU, WE CALL 400 FAMILIES. WE INTERVIEWED THEM BECAUSE WE WERE INTERVIEWING THEM REGARDING SUMMER BUT THE VERY FIRST QUESTION WE ASK THEM IS IS DISTANT LEARNING WORKING FOR YOUR CHILD? AND 180 F TO THE 238 PARENTS, 75 PERCENT OF THEM SAID IT WAS WORKING FOR THEIR CHILD. ANGELA, ARE YOU THERE? >> SOMEONE OF THE OTHER THINGS WE RECOGNIZE WE WOULD NEED TO DO IS SUPPORT OUR PRESCHOOL FAMILIES. AND WE CREATED A PRESCHOOL WEBSITE AND IT'S A RESOURCE FOR THEM, AND THEN SOME THINGS LIKE WEEKLY SCHEDULES FOR DIFFERENT AREAS THAT THEY COULD FOCUS ON, AND SOCIAL MEDIA ACTUALLY HAS PROVEN TO BE AN EASY ACCESS FOR PARENTS. SO THEY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ACCESS THINGS ON FACEBOOK. THEY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO USE YOUTUBE. EVEN JUST FROM THEIR MOBILE DEVICE. AND SO THE TEACHERS HAVE DONE THINGS THAT ARE PRERECORDED AND THEIR ACTIVITIES THAT THEY CAN DO WITH THE STUDENTS TO KICK OFF THE DAY WHICH HAS BEEN REALLY EXCITING FOR THE KIDS. THEY MAKE IT INTERACTIVE AND THE PAUSE SO THE KIDS CAN RESPOND AND DO A CALL RESPONSIVE SUPPORT: SORT. JUST TO GIVE THEM THE FEELING THEY ARE STILL AROUND YOUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY. AND THEN THE TEACHERS ARE READING BEDTIME STORIES.ND I GUESS IT'S BEEN REALLY POPULAR BUT THE KIDS LISTEN TO THEM OVER AND OVER AGAIN JUST TO HEAR THE TEACHERS READING THE BEDTIME STORIES. AND THEY ARE REALLY FOCUSING ON PROVIDING ACTIVITIES THAT THE STUDENTS CAN DO AT HOME AND THERE REALLY INTENTIONALLY TRYING TO PLAN THINGS THAT ARE SIMPLE WITH COMMON HOUSEHOLD ITEMS. SO THAT PARENTS CAN ENGAGE WITH THE STUDENTS IN THOSE. AND ONE OF THE INTERESTING THINGS THAT HAS HAPPENED IS THEY ARE NOTICING THERE ARE PARENTS WHO HAVE NOT TALKED WITH THE TEACHERS UP TO THIS POINT IN TIME THAT ARE ENGAGING MELBOURNE WITH THE TEACHERS DURING DISTANCE-LEARNING. AND THEY ARE DOING FUN THINGS LIKE SPIRIT WEEK FOR ADDED WAYS TO TRY TO STAY ENGAGED WITH THE [01:05:02] STUDENTS. ? WE ALSO HAVE SUPPORTS IN PLACE FOR ENGLISH LEARNERS. WHAT YOU SEE IF THERE IS THERE IS ACTUALLY A WEBSITE FOR STUDENTS AND THEN THERE IS TEACHER RESOURCES FOR AOD. AND SO THOSE ARE THINGS STUDENTS WANT TO BE ENGAGED, THEY CAN EXPLORE ACTIVITIES THAT SUPPORT LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT AND RESOURCES THAT WILL HELP THEM INCORPORATE STRATEGIES INTO THEIR LESSONS. SO I MENTIONED THE WEBSITE. WE HAVE OUR ELD AND THEY STARTED PILOTING LESSONS WITH TEACHERS. BEFORE WE WENT ON SPRING BREAK AND SO THAT WAS REALLY ÃTHEY WERE ABLE TO USE THAT INFORMATION TO FIGURE OUT MAYBE WHAT PLATFORMS WERE NOT WORKING, WHAT WAS WORKING TO BUILD ON THAT AND THEN THEY CONTINUE TO ADDRESS THOSE LESSONS. OUR ELD'S HAVE OFFICE HOURS TO PROVIDE THEM AS MUCH ACCESS AS POSSIBLE AND THEN I MENTIONED THAT BILINGUAL TEACHER TEAM IS PROVIDING NATIVE LANGUAGE AND THEN WE CONTINUE TO ATTEND ENGLISH ENGLISH LEARNER STAY UP TO DATE ON RESOURCES AND IDEAS FOR DISTANCE LEARNING FOR EL STUDENTS. ANOTHER THING I WANT TO CALL OUT, I WANT TO SAY THIS BECAUSE IT'S CAROL'S TEAM. I WANT TO RECOGNIZE THEIR EFFORTS. 138 REFERRALS THEY RESPONDED TO. WAS THAT EARLIER TODAY? 138 REFERRALS FAMILIES ACCESSING OUR WEBSITE. IF YOU WANT TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT? >> SO REGARDING EMOTIONAL SUPPORT, THE CHALLENGE FOR US IS WE KNEW COMING INTO CHILDREN IN PLACE WE KNOW WHO OUR KIDS ARE RECEIVING EMOTIONAL SUPPORT. WE NOW ÃTHE KIDS ARE WHERE WE WOULD SAY WE KNOW WHO THEY ARE. THE PROBLEM WITH SHELTER IN PLACE IS THE MENTAL HEALTH DYNAMIC OF THE ISOLATION CAUSES MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES POTENTIALLY CAUSES MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES WHERE THEY DID NOT ÃWE MADE IT AN EFFORT TO CONNECT WITH STUDENTS WHEN THEY WERE RECEIVING SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT WHERE THEY WERE CONSIDERED AT RISK FOR US. WE ARE LOOKING FOR THAT INVITING THEM AND SERVING THEM. BUT IT WAS THE STUDENTS THAT WE DIDN'T KNOW THAT WE WERE TRYING AND WE WERE DEVELOPING THE SYSTEM SO WE COULD FIND THEM. THIS 138 REPRESENTS 59 REFERRALS THROUGH OUR SOCIAL AND THE WEB-BASED SYSTEM. WHEN IT'S 79 PARENTS REACHING OUT TO STAFF SAY ÃTHEY ARE REACHING OUT TO THE TEACHER OR STUDENTS AND TEACHER IN THOSE FOLKS ARE IN TURN COMING TO THE SITE OR TO INTERNALLY HAVE HUNDRED AND 38 REFERRALS SINCE MAY 6. THE OTHER IS SERVICE DELIVERY. IN JANUARY WE WERE SERVING JUST UNDER 800 STUDENT. AND THAT IS ROUGHLY 4 KIDS. THAT IS 800 KIDS IN JANUARY. WE ARE NOW SERVING 1728 STUDENTS VERY DIFFERENT LEVELS OF STUDENT SERVICE FROM LOW INTENSITY TO HIGH INTENSITY BUT WE ARE SERVING 1628 STUDENTS DIRECTLY. THAT IS STAGGERING. >> RECOGNIZING THAT NEED FOR CONNECTION AND WHAT A CHALLENGE THIS CAN BE FOR FAMILIES AND STUDENTS, OUR TEAMS WORK TO FIGURE OUT WAYS THAT WE COULD VIRTUALLY CONNECT WITH STUDENTS AT THE SITE LEVEL AND ALSO OUR AFTERSCHOOL PROVIDERS THAT WE PARTNER WITH. AND SO THE AFTERSCHOOL MENTORING PROGRAM DOES CHECK INS AND VIRTUAL ACTIVITIES AND THEY ARE TRYING TO PROVIDE ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL EMOTIONAL SUPPORT. THEY HAVE BEEN ENROLLED WITH THEM. OUR SITES HAVE BEEN DOING SOME VIRTUAL CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES. THINGS WERE KIDS CAN SUBMIT VIDEOS THINGS THAT REPRESENT WHO THEY ARE THAT THEY WOULD WANT TO SHARE WITH THEIR COMMUNITY. DIFFERENT WAYS TO TRY TO KEEP THEM CONNECTED. WE ARE REALLY APPRECIATIVE OF THE STAFF AND THE THOUGHTFULNESS THEY HAVE PUT INTO TRYING TO REMIND STUDENTS THAT WE ARE HERE AND WE CARE ABOUT THEM AND WE WANT TO SUPPORT THEM. WE ARE NOT SURE IF WE ARE GOING [01:10:47] TO BE STARTING IN THE PHYSICAL CLASSROOM OR IN SOME COMBINATION OF VIRTUAL AND PHYSICAL CLASSROOMS AND SO WE NEED TO MAKE SURE OUR STUDENTS HAVE ACCESS TO TECHNOLOGY AND ITS SEAMLESS. THAT THEY CAN GO FROM BEING IN A PHYSICAL CLASSROOM TO WORKING FROM HOME WITHOUT DAYS OF TIME LAPSING WHEN WE TRIED TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO DISTRIBUTE CHROME BOOKS AND GET THEM CLEANED. SO THIS INVESTMENT THAT'S BEEN MADE IS REALLY FOCUSED ON EQUITABLE ACCESS FOR THE COMING SCHOOL YEAR. SOME OTHER INVESTMENTS WE'VE MADE FOR DISTANCE LEARNING OR IN LIGHT OF DISTANCE LEARNING IS THE ADDITION OF TWO SOCIAL WORKERS TO HELP WITH SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT STUDENTS FAMILIES AND SUPPORT WAS FOR THE INVESTMENT AT THAT. PROVIDING CELL PHONES FOR THE VIRTUAL OFFICES WE MADE AN INVESTMENT THERE. BOXES AND THINGS TO TEACHERS Ã WE WERE NOT JUST HAVING REHAB ADDITIONAL SECURITY THEY TRAINING THE AMOUNT OF TIME INVESTED IN DEVELOPING ALL OF THE TRAINING THERE'S LOTS TO LEARN AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME DISTRICTWIDE WE HAVE DONE SOMETHING LIKE THIS. THERE ARE FIGURING OUT ÃWE HAD BEST PRACTICES AND LINK TO OUR WEBSITE AND HEARING THE ENDPOINT INPUT WE ARE GETTING FROM THE FAMILIES AND COMMUNITY AND THINGS LIKE WHAT CAROL MENTIONED RECEIVING THAT INPUT TRYING TO IMPROVE UPON THAT BUT ALSO LARGELY HEARING PEOPLE RECOGNIZE THE EFFORT THAT STAFF ARE PUTTING INTO TRY AND STAY CONNECTED WITH THEM. WE ARE HONEST ABOUT THE THINGS WE NEED TO WORK ON BUT I DON'T THINK WE SHOULD FORGET ALL OF THE EFFORT THAT HAS BEEN PUT INTO THOSE WORK. SO SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE NEED TO DO TO FINISH OUT WE HAVE OUR GRADUATIONS AND PROMOTIONS AND YOU HAVE HEARD ABOUT LANCELOT AND THE THINGS THAT HAVE HAPPENED. I WANT TO TALK A LITTLE BIT WHEN I GET TO THE GRAPH ABOUT THE DATA WE CAN USE TO HELP THOSE MOVE FORWARD AND WE TALKED ABOUT THE REMEDIATION AND HOW WE USE REPORT CARDS AND THEN THE END OF THE LEADER LOGISTICS PROCESSES FOR GETTING LONGINGS BACK TO FAMILIES AND STAFF, HOW WE MAINTAIN OUR FACILITIES OVER THE SUMMER WE HAVE THE STARTER SCHOOL PROCESS THAT WAS LED BY DOUG WAR AND HE'S BEEN DOING IT FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND WE ARE DOING THAT VIRTUALLY BECAUSE WE UNDERSTAND THAT CAN'T STOP NOW. AND THEN WE MENTIONED IN A PRESENTATION HOW WE PREPARE FOR WHAT THE SCHOOLS LOOK LIKE IN THE FALL. IT COULD BE QUITE DIFFERENT AND SO WORKING THROUGH THAT PROCESS. SO GOING BACK TO THE REMEDIATION INTERVENTION WE ARE USING MULTIPLE DATA POINTS GETTING FEEDBACK FROM TEACHERS, REVIEWING THIS REPORT, PROGRESS REPORTS. STUDENTS ARE HELD HARMLESS. THEY ARE NOT GOING TO GET A LESSER GRADE AS A RESULT OF ENGAGING IN DISTANCE LEARNING. THEY CAN IMPROVE THEIR GRADES BUT WE WILL USE THE FEEDBACK WE GET FROM THEIR TIME AND DISTANCE LEARNING WE WILL USE THE ANALYTICS AND USE SURVEYS WE SENT OUT TO TEACHERS, STAFF, TEACHERS, PARENTS AND STUDENTS TO GET THEIR FEEDBACK ON DISTANCE LEARNING. THERE'S GOING TO BE A WIDE ARRAY OF DATA WE USED TO REALLY TRY TO HONE IN ON WHO NEEDS THAT REMEDIATION BECAUSE DISTANCE LEARNING DIDN'T WORK AND WHO THE OTHER STUDENTS ARE THAT MIGHT NEED INTERVENTION. THAT WE CAN START TO PLAN FOR IN THE FALL. >> ANGELA, A QUICK QUESTION. THIS IS LISA. [01:15:03] HOW ARE WE GOING TO LOOK AT OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE IN THE YOUNGER GRADES, PARTICULARLY K-1 Ã2. NOT MUCH HOW MUCH THE TEACHER CAN DO TO TRULY ASSESS DISTANCE LEARNING, WHERE THAT STUDENT IS OR IF THEY NEED REMEDIATION OR ARE WE LOOKING AT POTENTIALLY PLANNING AND ASSESSMENT THAT THIS CHILD CAN TAKE TO GET THE DATA SINCE I CAN TELL YOU EVERYTHING MY CHILD IS DOING WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REALLY GIVE THE TEACHER DATA >> RIGHT.NE OF THE THINGS WE'RE LOOKING AT IS DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENTS IN THE FALL, WHAT ARE THINGS WE CAN DO TO HELP US FIGURE OUT WHERE THEY ARE AT WHEN WE START THE SCHOOL YEAR >> WE WILL NEVER RELY ON ONE ASSESSMENT BECAUSE YOUR OWN THEORY OF ACTION SAYS MULTIPLE MEASURES AND A TIME TO GIVE THE K-1 TEST ESPECIALLY AFTER SUMMER THEY ARE GOING TO SCHOOL ÃSCORE LOWER JUST LIKE YOU GIVE ME AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT WE DID THE NIGHT ON MONDAY MY SCORE WILL BE LOWER. THIS IS OUR SIX PILLARS TO REOPEN AS WE HAVE DONE A LOT OF WORK. I'M VERY GRATEFUL FOR THE WORK THAT HAS BEEN DONE. YOU SEE IT'S A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT FROM END TO END AND WE WILL BE TALKING A LOT MORE ABOUT THESE SIX PILLARS AND THESE ARE GUIDING POINTS AS WE TALKED ABOUT THE START OF SCHOOL. WE COULD NOT WRAP OUR HEADS AROUND ALL OF THESE DIFFERENT OPTIONS THAT WERE POSSIBLE AND STILL POSSIBLE. SO WITH THESE SIX PILLARS WE NOW CAN BUILD AND PLAN AND BE READY TO RETURN TO SCHOOL WHENEVER THAT IS APPROPRIATE. THAT'S IT. QUESTIONS, IF YOU HAVE ANY. >> QUESTIONS, BOARD MEMBERS? I HAVE A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS. SO COULD YOU SPEAK MORE, CHRIS OR MATT ABOUT THE ASSESSMENT OF STUDENTS AND WHAT THAT WOULD LOOK LIKE? BECAUSE WE KNOW THERE IS LEARNING LOSS. SO WHAT TYPE OF ASSESSMENT, AND WHAT ÃAND WHAT WILL ÃAND HOW WE USE THAT? >> I WILL BE HONEST, THERE IS NO WAY WE CAN TELL YOU WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN IN AUGUST RIGHT NOW BECAUSE WE DON'T KNOW IF WE WILL BE IN DISTANCE LEARNING AND WE ARE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO ASSESS KIDS ON TRUE REMEDIATION NEEDS OR LEARNING LOSS UNTIL IT COMES BACK. WE ARE STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHEN WE OPEN, HOW WE OPEN, HOW WE CLOSE AND DO WE HAVE TO CUT 20 PERCENT OF OUR BUDGET. ANYTHING I WOULD SAY NOW WOULD BE A FAKE AND DISHONEST. I CAN TELL YOU WE ARE GOING TO USE THE THEORY OF ACTION AND FOCUS ON MULTIPLE METRICS AND ONCE WE CAN GET KIDS BACK IN SEATS OR AT A HYBRID VERSION OF LEARNING, THEN WE WILL MAKE SURE WE ARE MOVING FORWARD AND ASSESSING WHERE THEY ARE AND WHERE TO GO FROM THERE. ALSO INCLUDING THE DATA THAT ANGELA TALKED ABOUT. >> OKAY. AND THEN I HAVE A QUESTION FOR CAROL. SO CAROL, TODAY I HEARD A PRESENTATION FROM GENERAL COUNSEL FOR C SBA TODAY. AND SHE TALKED ABOUT THE LOTS OF LEARNING ÃWILL BE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE COMPENSATORY EDUCATION WHEN STUDENTS RETURN OR WILL WE BE REQUIRED BY LAW TO ÃAND ANYTHING THEIR IEP'S COULD HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO ADDRESS? SO IT SOUNDS AS IF YOU WENT BACK AND REWROTE ALL OF THE IEP'S OR AMENDED THEM. AMENDED THEM. IT SOUNDS AS IF, YOU KNOW, WE HAVE ALREADY GOT IT. WE ARE STEPS AHEAD. MAYBE WHERE MOST DISTRICTS ARE SHARED I JUST WANTED TO HEAR WHAT YOUR THOUGHTS WERE ABOUT THE LEARNING LOSS. LEANING FORWARD. EVEN THOUGH THE PARENT SURVEY SAID THEY ARE HAPPY WITH DISTANCE LEARNING. WHAT ARE WE GOING TO BE LOOKING AT IN THE FALL? EVEN IF WE COME BACK IN A HYBRID OR CONTINUE THE DISTANCE LEARNING, WHAT WILL WE BE LOOKING AT IN TERMS OF LEARNING? >> RIGHT NOW, WE ARE COLLECTING [01:20:01] DATA. SO YOU WROTE THE AMENDMENTS, BUT THE AMENDMENTS ONLY REFLECT WHAT WE CAN DO DISTANCE LEARNING TO THE EXTENT FEASIBLE. SO ONE OF THE DATA POINTS THAT WE HAVE FOR EVERY SINGLE STUDENT IS WHAT THE IEP SAYS VERSUS THE AMENDMENT. SO IF THE SERVICES ARE NOT SIGNIFICANTLY DECREASED, THEN I AM STILL STICKING TO STATE'S POSITION THAT WILL FALL IT BACK BECAUSE IT'S NOT MINUTE PER MINUTE. SO WE ARE MONITORING THE SERVICE PROVIDED BECAUSE IF A STUDENT GETS THREE TIMES A WEEK OF SPEECH, NORMALLY AND THEY ARE GETTING TWO TIMES A MONTH NOW, I AM GOING TO MONITOR THAT STUDENT FOR REGRESSION. SO I NEED TO KNOW WHICH STUDENTS WE HAVE TO KEEP AN EYE ON. AND THEN OUR MODERATE TO SEVERE STUDENTS, SOME OF THEM CAN'T DO THE DISTANCE-LEARNING SEWER MONITORING THAT. >> NOBODY HAS ANY ANSWERS. BUT THEY ARE ÃTHERE ARE TOPICS TO KEEP IN MIND AS WE MOVE FORWARD. KRISTI, DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? >> FIRST, THANK YOU FOR THIS INFORMATION IT'S AMAZING IT WAS A FAIRLY SUBSTANTIVE PRESENTATION BARELY SCRATCHED THE SURFACE ON WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN DOING OVER THE LAST SEVEN WEEKS OR SO. THE THING I'M HEARING THIS QUESTIONS IN GENERAL. I THINK SIX PILLARS WAS EXTREMELY EFFECTIVE. I THINK THIS MAKES ME ÃI DON'T WANT TO SAY IT MAKES ME FEEL BETTER BY FILLING OUT MORE INFORMATION THAT I CAN SHARE ABOUT THE THINGS WE'RE LOOKING OUT MAYBE A REQUEST THAT WOULD TAKE MAKEOVER THE EXTENT THAT [01:25:07] WE HAVE TIME HOW ARE WE CAPTURING THE DATA AND THESE ARE QUESTIONS THAT FAMILIES ARE GOING TO ASK. HOW DO I KNOW MY STUDENT IS READY TO GO RIGHT NOW. HOW DO I KNOW ÃTHERE ARE THINGS WE DO THAT YOU DO EVERY YEAR ANYWAY YOU DO THE ASSESSMENTS THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE STUDENT NEEDS AND WHAT REMEDIATION OR DIFFERENTIATION IS THE CASE MAY BE SOME MAY BE TOO HAVE THAT INFORMATION. THE GOOD NEWS IS WE GOT ALL THIS INFORMATION ALMOST ALL THIS INFORMATION ALREADY IN VARIOUS COMMUNICATIONS BUT IT WAS AMAZING TO SEE IT. SO THANK YOU. >> TRUSTEE CLIENT, DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? >> NO QUESTIONS. >> SO CAROL AND ANGELA I WANT TO ECHO AND SAY THANK YOU. IT WAS REALLY A LITTLE BIT OF MIND BLOWING TO HEAR THE AMOUNT OF CONNECTION AND YOU HAVING DONE 1600 AMENDMENTS TO THE IEP'S BECAUSE THAT IS A LOT OF WORK. YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. THAT'S A LOT OF WORK. AND ONE THING I'M SURE YOU KNOW THAT WE ARE HEARING FROM LEGAL COUNSEL AND OTHERS PRESENTATIONS. IT IS MAKE SURE WE ARE FINDING WAYS TO DOCUMENT DEMONSTRATE OF PROGRESS WITH SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS. SOMETHING IN WRITING AND WHATNOT AND EVERYBODY IS LOOKING AT HOW ARE WE CATEGORIZING THEM MARKING DOWN SHOWING THERE'S DEMONSTRATED PROGRESS BUT EVERYTHING YOU GUYS TALKED ABOUT SUE AND I AS WE SAID WE ARE IN TWO REGIONAL CALLS TODAY. WE ARE ADAMANTLY ASKING BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT THERE TRUSTEE DONSICK OR BAINES OR GRANT. THEY NEED TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE US WHAT IS THE BEST PROTOCOL HEALTHWISE? IT'S NOT FAIR TO MAKE THIS A DISTRICT TO DISTRICT REQUEST. WE NEED AN OVERARCHING PUBLIC HEALTH REQUESTS AND THAT IS FULLY COGNIZANT THAT WE HAVE LIMITATIONS WITHIN OUR BUDGET AND OUR STRUCTURE AND HOW DO WE PROVIDE AND DO WHAT'S BEST FOR KIDS? SO SEEING ALL THAT EVERYBODY HAS DONE THANKS TO EVERYBODY ELSE THAT'S BEEN PART OF THIS. IT REALLY HAS BEEN GOOD. >> I JUST WANT TO SAY THANKS BECAUSE I DIDN'T SAY IT PROPERLY, BUT THIS PRESENTATION TRULY DEMONSTRATES THE ÃJUST THE EXCESSIVE HOURS OVER AND ABOVE THAT ALL OF YOU HAVE BEEN DOING. I JUST REALLY APPRECIATE IT, IT'S AMAZING HOW MUCH YOU HAD TO COME TOGETHER AND MOVE SO QUICKLY AND HAVE DONE SUCH A THOROUGH JOB AND TRY TO CAPTURE EVERYTHING ÃALL YOUR EFFORTS. SO THANK YOU. IT'S VERY OBVIOUS ALL OF YOUR HARD WORK. MOVING ON IN THE AGENDA, I [Consent Agenda] WOULD LIKE TO NOW MOVE TO CONSENT CALENDAR. IS THERE A MOTION TO APPROVE CONSENT? >> SOLDIERS. >> IT'S BEEN MOVED AND SECONDED. ROLL CALL. THANK YOU FOR HANGING WITH US. CONSENT PASSES 6 TO 0. NOW MOVING ON TO PUBLIC HEARINGS. [Item IX A] DID WE RECEIVE ÃI WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A MOTION TO OPEN UP THE PUBLIC HEARING ON THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AMENDED LOCAL PLAN FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION. DID WE RECEIVE ANY PUBLIC [01:30:04] COMMENTS ON THIS ITEM? >> WE DID NOT RECEIVE ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS FOR THIS PUBLIC HEARING. >> DO I HAVE A MOTION? >> MOVED TO CLOSE. >> SECOND WE ARE NOW ON OUR ROLL CALL FAST PACE. TO 0 BOAT TO CLOSE THE PUBLIC HEARING AND I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A MOTION TO OPEN PUBLIC HEARING FOR ITEM B THE SCHOOL DISTRICT ANNUAL BUDGET PLAN FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION. [Item IX B] DID WE RECEIVE ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS ON THIS ITEM? >> THERE WERE NO PUBLIC COMMENTS RECEIVED FOR THIS PUBLIC HEARING. >> DO I HAVE A MOTION TO CLOSE FOR THE ANNUAL BUDGET PLAN FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION? >> SO MOVED. >> MOVED AND SECONDED. ROLL CALL. >> THE ITEM PASSES 6 TO 0 TO CLOSE THE HEARING. NOW MOVING ON PUBLIC HEARING C. [Item IX C] THE ANNUAL SERVICE PLAN FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION. WERE ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS RECEIVED FOR THIS ITEM? >> NO PUBLIC COMMENTS FOR THIS PUBLIC HEARING. >> FOR THIS PUBLIC HEARING THERE WERE NO COMMENTS. MAY HAVE A MOTION TO CLOSE THE HEARING? >> SO MOVED >> SECOND >> MOVED AND SECONDED. ROLL CALL. [Item X A] >> MOTION PASSES 6 TO 0 TO CLOSE THE PUBLIC HEARING. NOW MOVING ON TO ACTION ITEMS. ACTION ITEM LEVEL I IS APPROVAL OF THE AMENDED SCHOOL DISTRICT LOCAL PLAN FOR EDUCATION. QUICKLY, MISS SWANSON HAS THERE BEEN ANY CHANGES THAT THE BOARD SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF? >> THE ONLY CHANGES WOULD BE IN THE FORMAT THE STATE IS REQUIRING ALL DISTRICTS TO USE THE SAME TEMPLATE NOW, SO IT'S A CUT-AND-PASTE FROM THE ORIGINAL GLOBAL PLAN THE TWO CHANGES, ONE IS ALL OF OUR RELATED SERVICE PROVIDERS LIKE OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY NEEDED DEFINITIONS SO WE CUT IT AND PASTE IT INTO THE DEFINITION SO IT'S CUT-AND-PASTE AND THEN THE SECOND CHANGE IS LOCATION OF THE CELL PHONE PLAN. THE PREVIOUS LOCAL PLAN HAD IT IN CHRIS'S OFFICE AND I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE BETTER IN MY OFFICE. >> ANY QUESTIONS? >> GOOD CALL. IT'S LIKELY TO GET LOST. >> WERE THERE ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS ON THIS ITEM? >> NO. NO PUBLIC COMMENTS ON THIS ACTION ITEM OR ANY OF THE OTHER ACTION ITEMS ON THIS AGENDA. >> SO ACTION JUST TO DOUBLE CHECK ACTION ITEMS A THROUGH I RECEIVED NO DOUBT, COMMENTS >> SO MOVED AND SECONDED. ROLL CALL. >> SO MOVED AND SECONDED. ROLL CALL. TO 04 ACTION ITEM A. NOW MOVING ONTO ACTION ITEMS B WHICH IS APPROVAL OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT [Item X B] ANNUAL BUDGET PLAN FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION. MISS SWANSON, ARE THERE ANY BUDGET ITEMS THAT THE BOARD NEEDS TO BE MADE AWARE OF WITH THIS PLAN? >> THE ANNUAL BUDGET PLAN COMES FORWARD EVERY SPRING FOR YOUR APPROVAL. BEING A SINGLE DISTRICT IS PRETTY STRAIGHTFORWARD THIS IS THE DOCUMENTATION OF OUR FEDERAL STATE AND LOCAL FUNDS AND HOW THEY ARE DISTRIBUTED. THERE'S NO OTHER DISTRICT TO SHARE SO THERE'S NO ALLOCATION. >> PERFECT.HANK YOU SO MUCH. CAN I HAVE A MOTION. >> MOVE APPROVAL. >> MOVED. >> SECOND [01:35:02] >> AND SECONDED. ROLL CALL. >> ACTION ITEM B PASSES. MOVING ONTO ACTION ITEM C. APPROVAL OF THE ANNUAL SERVICE [Item X C] PLAN FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION. MISS SWANSON, AND EVEN THE BOARD SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF THAT HAS BEEN CHANGED? >> THE ANNUAL SERVICE PLAN COMES FORWARD EVERY SPRING AND COMES FORWARD THE SAME TIME AS THE BUDGET PLAN, AND WHAT IT TELLS YOU IS WHAT SERVICES WE OFFER AND AT THE INDIVIDUAL SCHOOL SITE AS WELL AS THE SERVICES WE OFFER AS A WHOLE DISTRICT AND THEN ALSO IF WE HAVE STUDENTS PLACED IN OTHER SCHOOLS WHAT'S OFFERED IN THOSE SCHOOLS. SO IT'S JUST DOCUMENTING SERVICES. >> THANK YOU SO MUCH. BOARD MEMBERS, QUESTIONS? MAY I HAVE A MOTION? >> MOVE APPROVAL. >> MOVED. >> SECOND >> SECOND DATE. ROLL CALL.
