FROM CUSTODIANS AND FOOD SERVICE WORKERS TO INSTRUCTIONAL AIDES, OFFICE STAFF, AND MAINTENANCE TEAMS. OUR CLASSIFIED STAFF WORKS BEHIND THE SCENES TO ENSURE THAT EVERY STUDENT HAS SUPPORT THEY NEED TO THRIVE.

AS WE MOVE INTO FEBRUARY AND REFLECT ON THE FIRST HALF OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, IT IS CLEAR THAT OUR CLASSIFIED STAFF HAS CONTINUED TO RISE TO THE OCCASION.

A TIME TO HONOR ACHIEVEMENTS, STRUGGLES, AND CONTRIBUTIONS, BLACK AMERICANS, INCLUDING THOSE WHO HAVE MADE AN IMPACT RIGHT HERE IN SACRAMENTO AND WITHIN NATOMAS UNIFIED.

OUR COMMUNITY HAS BEEN SHAPED BY THE EFFORTS OF EDUCATORS, ADVOCATES, AND LEADERS WHO HAVE FOUGHT FOR EQUITY AND EDUCATION AND LABOR RIGHTS.

THEIR WORK CONTINUES TO INSPIRE US AS WE ADVOCATE FOR FAIR TREATMENT, FAIR WAGES, AND BETTER OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL CLASSIFIED STAFF.

CSCA REMAINS COMMITTED TO ENSURING THAT THOSE WHO SERVE OUR SCHOOLS, ESPECIALLY THE LOWEST PAID WORKERS RECEIVE COMPENSATION AND RESPECT THEY DESERVE.

FAIR WAGES AND STRONG WORK PROTECTIONS ARE NOT JUST LABOR ISSUES.

THE NATOMAS TEACHERS ASSOCIATION WISHES TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND HONOR THE INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES OF THIS REGION AND RECOGNIZE THAT THE CITY OF SACRAMENTO IS SITUATED ON THE TRADITIONAL HOMELANDS OF THE NICANO PEOPLE.

WE OFFER GRATITUDE FOR THE LAND ITSELF FOR THOSE WHO HAVE STEWARDED IT FOR GENERATIONS AND FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO STUDY, LEARN, WORK, AND BE IN COMMUNITY WITH THIS LAND.

WE'RE WISHING OUR COUNSELORS A HAPPY SCHOOL COUNSELOR WEEK AS WE CELEBRATE THE WORK THAT THEY'VE DONE FOR OUR STUDENTS.

I ALSO REALLY WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE ANYBODY WHO'S WORKED ON A HIGH SCHOOL CAMPUS WITH HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELORS KNOWS THAT WE AS TEACHERS, WANDER INTO THOSE COUNSELING OFFICES ALMOST AS MUCH AS THE STUDENTS AND SIT DOWN AND GET OUR OWN FREE COUNSELING.

I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT THEY ARE PRICELESS.

THEY MAKE ALL OF OUR SITES BETTER, AND I JUST CAN'T IMAGINE THEM NOT BEING THERE.

YOU GUYS KNOW THAT BECAUSE YOU SEE US IN THOSE ROOMS ALL THE TIME.

IN THE LAST FEW DAYS IT SEEMS THAT CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH HAS NOW BECOME AN ACT OF BRAVERY.

WE'VE SHARED WITH OUR MEMBERS THE BLACK LIVES MATTER SCHOOL WEEK OF ACTION MATERIALS THIS YEAR, WHICH INCLUDES ACTIVITIES AND LEARNING FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS.

THIS YEAR'S THEME IS GUIDED BY THE FACT THAT ALL BLACK LIVES, REGARDLESS OF SEX ASSIGNED TO BIRTH, GENDER IDENTITY, GENDER EXPRESSION, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, ECONOMIC STATUS, ABILITY, DISABILITY, EDUCATION, LOCATION, AGE, IMMIGRATION STATUS, RELIGIOUS BELIEFS, OR DISBELIEFS MATTER.

I'M HERE TO SAY THAT THIS MONTH AND EVERY FEBRUARY FORWARD WITH OR WITHOUT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S BLESSING, OUR TEACHERS WILL ACTIVELY ENGAGE IN CELEBRATING BLACK EXCELLENCE, AND EVEN IN TIMES OF GREAT CHALLENGE, WE'RE CELEBRATING BLACK JOY.

AS THE DAYS GO BY, IT BECOMES MORE CLEAR THAT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO CONTINUE THIS FIGHT TOGETHER TO MAINTAIN PUBLIC EDUCATION, TO PROTECT OUR STUDENTS AND SAVE OFF PRIVATIZATION.

WE APPRECIATE THAT THIS DISTRICT HAS PUBLISHED THE SAFE HAVEN LANGUAGE AGAIN, AND THAT WE'VE BEEN IN CONVERSATIONS WITH DISTRICT LEADERSHIP ABOUT SIGNAGE FOR SCHOOLS AND CLASSROOMS, OFFERED IN MULTIPLE LANGUAGES TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR STUDENTS KNOW THAT THEY ARE SAFE, THAT THEY CAN COME TO SCHOOL, AND THAT WE WILL PROTECT THEM.

LASTLY, TONIGHT, I JUST WANT TO THANK THE BOARD MEMBERS WHO I KNOW HAVE BEEN OUT AND ABOUT ON SITES AND SEEN THE STORIES THAT I'VE SHARED PREVIOUSLY.

SO DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL IS CELEBRATING AMAZING ATTENDANCE WITH SEVERAL STUDENTS RECOGNIZED FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING ATTENDANCE, IN PARTICULAR.

I ALSO WANT TO WISH GOOD LUCK TO THEIR BASKETBALL TEAM WHO HAS THEIR FIRST GAME TOMORROW.

SO IF YOU GUYS GET A CHANCE, GET OUT THERE.

THE INTERCOM HIGH SCHOOL TIGERS ARE STARTING THEIR FEBRUARY OFF SOPER STRONG.

LAST WEEK, WE HAD THE ANNUAL BLACK LIGHT RALLY AND AUDITIONS FOR THE SPRING PRODUCTION OF THE LITTLE MERMAID.

OUR MUSIC PROGRAM IS HOSTING A REGIONAL COMPETITION, AND THE DRAMA PROGRAM IS ATTENDING THE LINEA HIGH SCHOOL THEATER FESTIVAL IN FOLSOM, WHICH IS HUGE.

OVER AT LEW GREEN ACADEMY, THE FAMILIES OF SENIOR STUDENTS WERE INVITED TO A FAST NIGHT HOSTED BY THE SCHOOL'S COUNSELORS.

THE LGA STAFF WALKED STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES THROUGH FINANCIAL AID APPLICATIONS AND ANSWERED THEIR QUESTIONS ABOUT COLLEGE ADMISSIONS.

AT THE END OF JANUARY, STUDENTS RESTARTED THEIR ENRICHMENT COURSES, WHICH ARE SHORT CLASSES BASED ON STUDENT AND TEACHER INTERESTS THAT BUILD THE CAMPUSES CULTURE.

NATOMAS HIGH SCHOOL HAS ALSO BEEN SUPER BUSY BOTH IN AND OUT OF THE CLASSROOM.

THE EIGHTH GRADE WELCOME NIGHT WAS A HUGE SUCCESS WITH ENTERTAINMENT FROM THE NHS DANCRETS AND THE DRUM CORP.

THEY ARE ALSO VERY HAPPY TO REPORT THAT THEIR BLACK PROGRAM HAS BEEN GOING PHENOMENALLY AND THE 100 BLACK MEN OF SACRAMENTO MENTORING PROGRAM HAS AS WELL.

STUDENTS ARE ALSO SET TO TOUR SAN FRANCISCO STATE UNIVERSITY ON FEBRUARY 15.

FINALLY, NATOMAS MIDDLE SCHOOL CELEBRATED THEIR OUTSTANDING BAND STUDENTS AFTER A PERFORMANCE IN THE CALIFORNIA MUSIC EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION CAPITOL SECTION HONOR BAND.

THE STUDENTS WORKED EXTREMELY HARD AND DID AN AMAZING JOB PERFORMING WITH SOME OF THE BEST YOUNG MUSICIANS IN THE GREATER SACRAMENTO AREA.

TO CONCLUDE MY REPORT, I WANT TO SAY THAT I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH WITH MY COMMUNITY, AND THAT CONCLUDES MY REPORT. THANK YOU.

I THINK THERE'S CLEARLY BEEN A LOT GOING ON, BUT WITH RECOGNIZING BLACK HISTORY MONTH, I THINK THAT THERE ARE TWO THINGS THAT I REALLY THINK ABOUT AND I WANT TO EMPHASIZE IN MY BOARD REPORT FOR OUR DISTRICT AND HOW WE CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY AS AMERICAN HISTORY.

THE FIRST IS THAT WE HAVE THE AP AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDIES COURSE, AND I HAVE SAID IT BEFORE, AND I'LL SAY IT AGAIN THAT I THINK THAT'S JUST REALLY IMPORTANT AND INCREDIBLE THAT WE HAVE THAT COURSE OVER AT HIGH SCHOOL, I BELIEVE.

THEN ALSO WITH OVER 20% OF OUR STUDENTS BEING BLACK OR AFRICAN AMERICAN.

I THINK WE HAVE REMINDERS QUITE LITERALLY AROUND US AND IN THIS ROOM, THAT OUR DISTRICT HAS INTENTIONALITY TO REALLY PROVIDE TANGIBLE SUPPORTS TO UNDOCUMENTED STUDENTS, STUDENTS THAT COME FROM MIXED STATUS FAMILIES, AS WELL AS OUR LGBT STUDENTS ARE ALSO INCLUDED IN THE SAFE HAVEN RESOLUTION.

I LOOK FORWARD TO BEING ABLE TO REINFORCE SOME OF THOSE ACTIONS THAT WE'VE HAD ATTACHED TO THE SAFE HAVEN RESOLUTION, VERY SOON, FROM NOW.

ONE MORE THING THAT I WOULD JUST BRIEFLY LIKE TO SHARE, BECAUSE I THINK A LOT OF THE WORDS THAT WE BRING TO OUR BOARD MEETING AND, WHENEVER WE HAVE A RESOLUTION THEY'RE MEANT TO ENACT THINGS AND TO BE SUPPORTIVE.

BUT I WAS REALLY LOOKING FOR SOME WAY TO MAKE SENSE OF A LOT OF THE CHANGES THAT OUR STAFF HAVE HAD TO READ AND ASSESS AND INFORM US ON COMING FROM THE FEDERAL LEVEL.

I HAD A CONVERSATION WITH MY DAD WHO IS AN IMMIGRANT FROM MEXICO, AND THIS IS A SHORT STORY, AND A SHORT ANECDOTE, I PROMISE.

I REALLY HELPED ME, SO I HOPE THAT IT HELPS, WHOEVER HEARS THE STORY.

I WAS REALLY GRAPPLING WITH HOW DO WE GO BEYOND WORDS? NO ONE INDIVIDUAL, INDIVIDUALS IN LEADERSHIP POSITIONS OR TRUSTED ORGANIZATIONS WERE REALLY STICKING THEIR NECK OUT PUBLICLY OR AS PUBLICLY AS TODAY FOR THESE GROUPS AND PERSECUTED GROUPS.

THAT REALLY GAVE ME A SENSE OF MOTIVATION AND A SENSE OF INSPIRATION THAT US DOING THESE THINGS IN WRITING AND VERBALLY DO HAVE AN IMPORTANCE AND DO HAVE A PLACE IN THIS ROOM AND BEYOND THIS ROOM.

I HOPE THAT SHORT CONVERSATION THAT I HAD WITH MY DAD WHO'S ALMOST 70 IS HELPFUL TO ANYONE ELSE WHO'S REALLY GRAPPLING WITH HOW DO WE GET TO THE REALLY ACTIONABLE PART AND THE IMPACTFUL PART OF ALL THESE THINGS BECAUSE IT'S CERTAINLY HELPED ME AND I THINK THAT'S WHY YOU'LL HEAR.

IT WAS SUPER EXCITING TO SEE HIM ON STAGE AND THEN HE WAS LIKE, YOU WERE AT MY GRADUATION LAST YEAR AND I'M LIKE, GUESS I WAS.

I REMEMBER BEFORE I WAS A TRUSTEE AS JUST AS A PARENT ADVOCATE SAYING WE NEED THE IB PROGRAM IN NATOMAS STARTING WITH INTERCOM AND KNOWING HOW MANY STUDENTS WE WERE LOSING TO OTHER DISTRICTS, AND THE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN STATE FUNDING WE WERE LOSING EVERY YEAR BECAUSE OF STUDENTS WHO WERE NOT ONLY LEAVING NATOMAS, BUT SKIPPING OVER A DISTRICT TO GO TO ANOTHER SCHOOL DISTRICT JUST FOR THE IB PROGRAM, AND THEN WE BECAME THE FIRST PRE K 12 IB CONTINUUM DISTRICT IN THE REGION.

WE'RE NOT THE ONLY ONES ANYMORE.

BUT WE WERE THE FIRST ONES IN THE REGION.

I'M JUST APPRECIATIVE OF THE STAFF THAT MADE THIS HAPPEN AND FOR MY COLLEAGUES, FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT OF THIS PROGRAM THAT TRULY SUPPORTS OUR STUDENTS THAT PROVIDES A MECHANISM OF MODALITY FOR DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION AND HELPS OUR STUDENTS TO CONTINUE TO UNDERSTAND THEIR PLACE IN THIS DIVERSE WORLD AS GLOBAL CITIZENS.

I THINK WE AS TRUSTEES HAVE AN OBLIGATION TO EDUCATE.

AS WE ALL DO IN THIS ROOM.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I'M PLEDGING TO YOU IS YOU WON'T JUST HEAR MY TRUTH.

I WILL REITERATE THE TRUTH.

THE ONLY REASON I KNEW WHAT I WAS WATCHING IS BECAUSE I LOVE TO GO OUT TO THE EVENTS, WATCH KIDS COMPETE, AND YOU JUST LEARN ABOUT IT BY SPENDING TIME OUT THERE.

I'VE BEEN TO NATOMAS HIGH BOYS BASKETBALL.

I ATTENDED A DOUBLE HEADER BASKETBALL GAME AT INTERCOM CAUGHT THE GIRLS AND THE BOYS.

WHAT WAS REALLY EXCITING DURING THE GIRLS GAME, JEMIAH [INAUDIBLE] SCORED HER 1500TH POINT, AND THE GAME WAS STOPPED AND SHE WAS RECOGNIZED AT THAT MOMENT.

THAT WAS REALLY EXCITING.

THEN, AS TRUSTEE HARDEN MENTIONED LAST NIGHT AT THE INTERCOM FOOTBALL BANQUET, I WAS HONORED TO AWARD THE MVP AWARD AT THE EVENT.

THAT WAS A LOT OF FUN FOR ME.

WE'VE HAD LOTS OF CELEBRATIONS.

I KNOW WE'RE DOING CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR, AND IT WAS SUCH AN HONOR TO SURPRISE ESA TO TKILL, WHO WAS OUR OVERALL DISTRICT CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR.

METTY TAZ, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF FINANCIAL SERVICES WILL ALSO COVER SOME ELEMENTS OF THIS POTENTIAL IMPACT TO OUR BUDGET IN THE SECOND HALF OF THIS PRESENTATION.

FROM A PERSPECTIVE, FROM A CALIFORNIA FINANCIAL POSITION, IT HASN'T PROVED SINCE '24-'25 PROJECTIONS.

THE ANTICIPATED CURRENT YEAR REVENUES WILL SURPASS PROJECTIONS BY 16.5 BILLION.

THAT'S THE IMPROVEMENT PART.

THEREFORE, A POTENTIAL FOR A SURPLUS.

THE BUDGET REFLECTS SHORTFALLS IN SUBSEQUENT FISCAL YEARS.

AGAIN, SOMETHING TO KEEP ON THE RADAR BECAUSE THE SHORTFALLS THAT HAPPEN AT THE STATE LEVEL CAN IMPACT THE BUDGET HERE AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL.

AND THEN ALSO STRATEGIC INVESTMENTS FOR FISCAL STABILITY AND FUTURE GROWTH.

THERE ARE SEVERAL CHALLENGES THAT REMAIN, AS YOU ARE AWARE, AND POTENTIAL VOLATILITY AND ECONOMIC RISKS ON OUR HORIZON.

GOVERNOR NEWSOM WARNED THAT UNCERTAINTIES CREATED BY WILDFIRES MAY IMPACT WHAT WE CAN SEE IN THE MAY REVISE IN NEXT YEAR'S BUDGET.

ALSO, THE INCOMING TRUMP ADMINISTRATION AND THE UNCERTAINTY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND OUR TITLE FUNDS CAN ALSO IMPACT WHAT WE SEE IN THE MAY REVISION.

DEFINITELY SOME UNCERTAINTY AS WE MOVE FORWARD.

BECAUSE OF THE WILDFIRES, COUNTIES WILL BE EXPERIENCING TAX DEFERRALS OR TAX EXTENSIONS.

THOSE TAX REVENUE PROJECTIONS WILL COME AT A LATER DATE WHICH MAKES BUDGETING A LITTLE BIT MORE DIFFICULT.

THEN OTHER FACTORS IS THE STOCK MARKET, ASSET PRICE VOLATILITY, AND THEN ANYTHING AFFECTING HIGH INCOME EARNERS, AS WELL AS GEOPOLITICAL INSTABILITY.

ALL OF THOSE IMPACT CALIFORNIA, AS ONE OF THE LARGEST GLOBAL ECONOMIC DRIVERS IN THE WORLD.

BASED ON ALL OF THAT INFORMATION, THE GOVERNMENT PROPOSES TO FUND PROP 98 GUARANTEED AT 117.6 BILLION.

THAT'S ROUGHLY 1.6 BILLION BELOW THE CALCULATED GUARANTEE, THE PROP 98 GUARANTEE.

WHAT WE'RE GOING TO SEE FOR COST OF LIVING IS ALSO SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

RIGHT NOW, WE'RE SEEING A DECREASE OF ABOUT HALF A PERCENT FROM JUST DECEMBER.

WHEN I PRESENTED THAT FIRST INTERIM REPORT, WE WERE AT 2.93%.

THIS PROJECTED BUDGET IS AT 2.43% OR HALF A PERCENT, AND THAT'S GOING TO IMPACT OUR REVENUES AND OUR FORECAST AS WE MOVE FORWARD.

THAT COLA IS ALSO APPLIED TO SPECIFIC CATEGORICAL PROGRAMS SUCH AS OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM, OUR STATE PRESCHOOL, AND THEN ALSO TRANSPORTATION.

REALLY QUICK ON WHAT'S BEING PROPOSED FROM THE GOVERNOR'S BUDGET ALSO INCLUDES ONGOING FUNDING.

WE'RE GOING TO SEE POTENTIAL INCREASE IN FUNDING FOR OUR AFTER SCHOOL LEAP ACADEMIES AND A CONNECTION TO ATTENDANCE RECOVERY.

IN THIS SCENARIO IN THIS PROPOSAL, IT'S MOVING TO A TIER ONE STATUS FROM 75% REQUIREMENT TO 55% REQUIREMENT.

RIGHT NOW, ON UNDUPLICATED COUNT, SO WE'RE ABOUT 69% UNDUPLICATED COUNT.

POTENTIAL FOR ADDITIONAL MONIES FOR OUR LEAP ACADEMIES, AND WE'LL MONITOR THAT AND ADJUST PLANS AND PROGRAMS AS WE MOVE FORWARD.

THEN YOU CAN SEE THE OTHER ONGOING ITEMS, ADDITIONAL FUNDING TO HELP WITH FULL IMPLEMENTATION OF UNIVERSAL TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN.

ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR ABOUT 10 MILLION FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY AT TK, 1.8 BILLION ONE-TIME FUNDING, THAT'S GOING TO TARGET STATEWIDE PRIORITIES OR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS, HELP WITH TEACHER RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION STRATEGIES, AND THEN CAREER PATHWAYS AND DUAL ENROLLMENT EXPANSION STRATEGIES.

THEN WHAT'S THE STATUS OF THE STATE'S RAINY DAY FUND? THIS IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW AS WE MOVE THROUGH THIS POTENTIAL INSTABILITY IN THE STATE BUDGET AND NATIONAL BUDGET.

IN 2022-23, AS YOU CAN SEE IN THIS GRAPHIC HERE, THERE WAS 8.4 BILLION SET ASIDE IN THE RAINY DAY FUND.

IN '23-'24, THAT WAS DEPLETED.

THE USE SECURITY OF THAT RAINY DAY FUND WAS THERE TO HELP US GET THROUGH THAT PERIOD OF A BUDGET MOMENT.

IN '24-'25, JUST OVER $1 BILLION WAS ADDED BACK INTO THAT, AND THEN IT'S BEING PROPOSED TO ADD ADDITIONAL FUNDING IN '25-'26.

STILL ROOM TO GROW IN THAT STATE RESERVE, BECAUSE THAT WILL HELP MITIGATE ANY FUTURE CONCERNS AT A STATEWIDE LEVEL WHICH IMPACTS US AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL.

SO WE'VE ALSO PREPARED AN ESTIMATE OF WHAT A LEASE PURCHASE FINANCING MIGHT LOOK LIKE IN TERMS OF PAYMENTS.

THIS FIRST OPTION HERE IS LOOKING AT THE LOW END OF THE DISTRICT RECEIVING $8,000,000 IN FUNDING TO HELP TOWARD THE PURCHASE.

THE BORROWING AMOUNT WOULD BE ABOUT 8.1 MILLION INCLUDING SOME ESTIMATED UPFRONT COSTS.

THEN AT THE HIGH END OF THE RANGE, $14,000,000 WOULD BE HOW MUCH THE DISTRICT WOULD RECEIVE, ABOUT A 14.1 MILLION DOLLAR BORROWING AND OVER THE SAME FINANCING TERM OF 15 YEARS, YOU CAN SEE THE PAYMENTS ARE ESTIMATED ABOUT 1.4 MILLION.

THE OTHER OPTION IS TO PRE SELECT A BANK OR LENDER UPFRONT AND THEN NEGOTIATE WITH THEM ON WHAT THE COSTS ARE GOING TO BE, WHAT THE INTEREST RATE IS GOING TO BE, ETC.

WE DO LOOK TO BEST PRACTICES TO HELP US IN THE PROCESS.

YOU CAN SEE HERE, THE DISTRICT HAS IN THIS TABLE, A NICE, LONG TRACK RECORD, OF A LOT OF SUCCESS WITH COMPETITIVE BIDDING, GETTING SEVERAL BIDS, AND HAVING A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT WINNING BANKS AND LENDERS WHO ARE SELECTED AS THE WINNING BID.

SO OUR RECOMMENDATION WOULD BE TO CONTINUE WITH THE COMPETITIVE BID PROCESS BECAUSE IT'S BEEN SO SUCCESSFUL IN THE PAST.

AGAIN, WE'LL BE ADDING SECOND GRADERS INTO NEXT YEAR.

HOWEVER, IN THE PAST FEW YEARS, WE'VE DONE LIKE WE DID AT AMERICAN LAKE AND AT BANNON CREEK AND AT JEFFERSON, AND ALSO AT PASSOVERD WITH BRIDGE STAFFING WHERE WE HIRED WHEN POSSIBLE, WE HIRED SOME TEACHERS EARLY FOR THE SUBSEQUENT YEAR.

MY NAME IS GARY FLEHMEN CABIRA.

I AM A DISABLED US ARMY VETERAN, BUT I ALSO DO AN AWFUL LOT OF WORK WITH KIDS.

I HAVE GONE AHEAD AND I'VE PASSED ON SEVEN PACKETS ABOUT OUR THIRD KITE FESTIVAL IN THE NORTH MAOMA AREA.

THE START OUT AS A CRAZY IDEA I HAD A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, AND IT'S BEEN GROWING.

TWO OF THE THINGS THAT I WOULD LIKE TO MENTION THAT I'M RATHER PROUD OF AS SMART HAS DECIDED TO COME ON BOARD FOR THIS EVENT AS WELL.

AND I'M ALSO WORKING WITH THE AEROSPACE MUSEUM OF CALIFORNIA.

THEY'RE GOING TO BE OUT WITH A DEMONSTRATION ABOUT THE MCCONNEY POWER GENERATING KITE, WHICH I KNEW NOTHING ABOUT UP UNTIL A FEW MONTHS AGO.

I'D LIKE TO INVITE YOU ALL TO COME OUT.

I BELIEVE SUPERINTENDENT GRANT WAS ACTUALLY AT OUR VERY FIRST FUN FLY.

LAST YEAR, WE HAD OVER 350 PEOPLE SHOW UP.

THIS YEAR, AT THE LAST TIME WE CHECKED, THEY HAD OVER 1,200 RSVP, OUR VRS VPS.

I WOULD INVITE YOU ALL TO COME OUT, PLEASE.

IT'S GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR KIDS.

THE OTHER THING I WOULD LIKE TO SAY IS, I STARTED A NONPROFIT CALLED KITES FOR KIDS.

THE REASON WHY I DID THIS IS BECAUSE I WOULD HEAR FROM PARENTS SAY, I WISH WE HAD DIFFERENT TYPES OF ACTIVITIES, STEM ACTIVITIES, MODEL ROCKETRY, KITE FLYING, KITE BINGING TYPE OF STUFF IN OUR SCHOOLS.

REALITY WAS THE SCHOOLS DIDN'T HAVE THE FUNDS AND THEY CERTAINLY DIDN'T HAVE MANPOWER.

AS A DISABLED VETERAN, I'M FORTUNATE, I CAN CHOOSE WHERE I WANT TO PUT MY TIME IN THE COMMUNITY.

I'VE ALSO AND I'VE ACTUALLY HELD A COUPLE OF MODEL ROCKETRY WORKSHOPS FOR THE KIDS AT MP THREE, AS WELL AS FREE KITE BUILDING WORKSHOPS.

I WOULD LIKE TO TRY TO EXPAND THAT INTO OTHER SCHOOLS IF THEY MIGHT BE INTERESTED.

AS I SAID, I HANDED A COUPLE OF PACKETS TO TIFFANY, WHO'S BEEN GRACIOUS ENOUGH TO WANT TO PASS IT ON TO YOU.
