IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A PUBLIC COMMENT, PLEASE FILL OUT A PUBLIC COMMENT CARD AND HANDED IT TO LILLIAN, WHO IS OUT RIGHT AT THE TABLE. AT THE CONCLUSION OF OUR MEETING, WE ASK MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC TO REFRAIN MEMBERS -- [IX. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA] [X.a. California School Employees Association (CSEA)] IT IS HARD TO BELIEVE THAT OUR SCHOOL YEAR IS COMING TO AN END. FOR THOSE EMPLOYEES WHO WILL BE SUPPORTING THE SUMMER SESSION, A BIG THANK YOU. AS WE FINALIZE THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, WE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE STAFF TAKE TIME FOR THEMSELVES, REWIND AND REFRESH. IN EACH MAY, CALIFORNIA SALUTES THE IMPORTANCE AND THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF CLASSIFIED SCHOOL EMPLOYEES. CLASSIFIED STOOL -- SCHOOL EMPLOYEES. >> WE WOULD ENCOURAGE YOU TO SHOUT OUT TO OUR CLASSIFIED [00:05:05] EMPLOYEES. THE DEVOTED WORK THAT THEY DO. AS IT COMES TO A CLOSE, I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR THEIR SUPPORT AND CONTRIBUTION THE HARD-WORKING -- DEDICATED YEARS OF WORK TO CERTIFIED. ALL OF THE WORK THAT NATOMAS UNIFIED ACCOMPLISHED THIS YEAR TOGETHER. WE CONTINUE TO WORK WITH DISTRICT LEADERS TO RESOLVE ISSUES AT THE LOWEST LEVEL AS WE CONTINUE TO EVOLVE, IT IS OUR HOPE THAT WE CONTINUE TO WORK IN COLLABORATION AND HAVE THE MOST POSITIVE IMPACT FOR OURSELVES AND FAMILIES. FINALLY, I JUST WANT TO SAY KUDOS TO OUR TEACHERS FOR EXERCISING THE RIGHTS AS THEY CONTINUE TO FIGHT FOR FAIR WAGES. I HOPE THAT EVERYBODY HAS A BLESSED EVENING AND THANK YOU. >> ARE THE HALLWAY SPEAKERS ON? ARE THEY LOUD ENOUGH THAT OUR MEMBERS CAN HEAR A SMALL WAY? >> CAN YOU HEAR IS IN THE [X.b. Natomas Teachers Association (NTA)] HALLWAY? THEY CAN HEAR US ON THE TV. GOOD EVENING. ONCE AGAIN, I AM GOING TO START AS HEART OF THE DEA PRACTICE, THAT UPON YOUR DIRECTION, THE DISTRICT IS RIGHTFULLY INVESTING IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO, NOT JUST BECAUSE PAYING FOR IT. I WANT YOU ALMOST HAPPENS AT EVERY PUBLIC MEETING NEVER REGION AND I'M HOPING THAT BY NEXT YEAR, YOU WILL OF YOUR PRACTICE, AS WELL. SIDEWALK BESIDE US TODAY ON THESE ANCESTRAL LANDS BY CHOOSING TO GATHER TOGETHER IN THE ACTIVE PRACTICE OF ACKNOWLEDGMENT AND APPRECIATION FOR SACRAMENTO'S INDIGENOUS PEOPLE HISTORY CONTRIBUTIONS. I WANT TO RECOGNIZE, ALTHOUGH IT IS A WEEK LATE, BUT IT WAS TEACHER AND NURSES APPRECIATION. I HOPE WE CONTINUE TO APPRECIATE ALL OF OUR EDUCATORS. PERSONALLY, I WANT YOU RECOGNIZE OUR RETIREES, AGAIN. MY GOING WHEN WE THINK ABOUT THE THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS HAVE INTERACTED WITH OVER THEIR CAREERS. THE KIDS THAT THEY TAUGHT TO READ. TO GET THEM THROUGH CLASSES THEY DID NOT WANT TO TAKE AND WATCH HIM HEAD OFF TO COLLEGE LIKE SOME OF YOU ARE ON THE SCHOOL BOARDS NOW. YOU REMEMBER THAT WE ARE PART OF MAKING ALL OF THAT POSSIBLE. WE ALSO WANT TO TAKE -- AND THANKS OUT TO ALL OF OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO TOOK PART IN CELEBRATIONS OF EDUCATORS ACROSS THE PD ESSAY, THE PARENTS THAT CAME OUT. I WAS AT MULTIPLE SCHOOL SITE AND IT WAS REALLY PHENOMENAL TO SEE THOSE ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS ASIAN-AMERICAN THE BUILDING, WHO ARE NOT ABLE TO MAKE IT TONIGHT. TAKE A MINUTE TO RECOGNIZE OUR API MEMBERS AND OUR SCHOOLS SHAPING THE MINDS OUTDATED RESOURCES AND CLEARLY INADEQUATE COMPENSATION. IT IS TIME PRIORITIZE OUR STUDENTS AND OUR TEACHERS. INVESTING IN OUR STUDENTS MEAN PROVIDING THEM WITH THE BEST POSSIBLE EDUCATION. WITH INVESTING IN OUR TEACHERS. CONTINUE TO ATTRACT TALENTED EDUCATORS TOWARD SUCCESS. HEARING WEEKLY [00:10:13] THE PLATE. OVER THE LAST 20 YEARS IMPLEMENTED ADDITIONAL NOT BUIL FOR TEACHERS TO DO THEM. THE ANSWER IS NOT TO MAKE THE WORKDAY THE ANSWER IS TO OFFER, THEY RECONSIDER IT IMMEDIATELY OR NOT INVESTING IN THE STOCK THAT SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS WHILE THEY ARE PINING AWAY, A THAT THESE PEOPLE ARE UNDERVALUED. THERE IS 100 AND SOMETHING TEACHERS OUT HERE TONIGHT. CHEERS AND APPLAUSE ] THESE TEACHERS WISH TO CONTINUE TO SERVE. HOWEVER THE NEEDS OF US AND OUR FAMILIES CANNOT BE IGNORED. YOU HAVE TO CONSIDER THE ABILITY TO REHIRE AND RETAIN. UPCOMING BUDGETARY CONCERNS ARE REAL. THEY ARE LESS DAMAGING THEY CONTINUE TO UNDERPAY THOSE IN CHARGE OF EDUCATING THE CHILDREN. THIS DISTRICT HAS MONEY TO BRING TO ITS TEACHERS TO BRING ITS TEACHERS FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE COMPETITION PILE AND RETAIN THE SOLVENCY. THIS IS PRIORITY, NOT ABILITY. INVEST IN YOUR TEACHERS, YOUR PSYCHIC, YOUR NURSE, YOUR TEACHERS, YOUR COUNSELORS. BETA LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST. THEY WILL HELP OUR STUDENTS WITH THE UPCOMING DIFFICULTIES FAR BETTER THAN A BASELESS PROGRAM OR TECHNOLOGY EXPANSION. I ALSO WANT TO REMIND THE TRUSTEES THAT WE ARE NOT HERE ASKING FOR YOUR CHARITY, SO YOU CAN KEEP YOUR PERSONAL WALLETS CLOSED. HANDING A TEACHER WHO COMES INTO SHARE THEIR CHALLENGES CASH IS INAPPROPRIATE AND BEYOND INSULTING. PUBLIC'S MONEY AND THAT IS THE MONEY THAT SHOULD BE GOING TO THE STUDENTS. TEACHING IS NOT THE SAME JOB IT WAS WHEN I STARTED 20 YEARS AGO. I KNOW THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE IN THIS BUILDING THAT THE THAT I WAS A TEACHER, I UNDERSTAND. YOU DO NOT. A CHALLENGE TO ANYONE IN HIS OFFICE THE CREDENTIAL TO SPEND A WEEK IN THE SHOES OF THESE TEACHERS. THIS IS THE HARDEST JOB. ON THAT NOTE, IT IS THE LAST SCHOOL BOARD MEETING OF THE YEAR AND I JUST WANT TO WISH YOU ALL WELL AND I HOPE THAT WE CAN CONTINUE WORKING THROUGH THIS TOGETHER. [X.d. Board Members] COMMUNICATIONS FROM TRUSTEES. DOSICK? WE WILL KEEP A VERY BRIEF TONIGHT. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF OUR RETIREES AND WHILE EVERYONE OF THEM TO BE COMMENDED, I DO WANT TO CALL OUT LOSING WILLIE AND JOEL WHO HAVE BEEN ANCHORS AT THIS DISTRICT IN OUR PROGRAMS. IT WAS GREAT TO BE ABLE TO HONOR THEM OVER THE WEEKEND. THE ONLY SOLACE THAT I REALLY HOW DOES KNOWING THAT KIM WILL BE THERE TO PICK UP THE REINS AND KEEP MOVING THINGS FORWARD TO GRADUATION SEXY. IT SHOULD BE FUN. >> MICAH GRANT? >> DITTO. OTHER THAN THAT, IN A [00:15:03] REPORT. >> ERICKA HARDEN? >> CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF THE RETIREES. I WANT TO SAY HAPPY BELATED NATIONAL -- AWARENESS MONTH. HAPPY BELATED TEACHERS APPRECIATION WEEK. HOBBY INTERNATIONAL AND HAPPY EARLY SPEECH PATHOLOGIST AND S OPA DATE. SCHOOL EMPLOYEE WEEK. I REALLY APPRECIATE THE BRIEF VIDEO CREATED BY CSD A, SO THANK YOU FOR SHARING. MAY IS MENTAL HEALTH MONTH. MENTAL HEALTH AMERICA HAS THE 2024 OUTREACH TOOLKIT AVAILABLE ONLINE AT MH AS A. LET'S NOT FORGET TO RECOGNIZE ASIAN RECOGNITION COMMIT ASIAN AND PACIFIC ISLANDER MONTH. ON SATURDAY, AS MENTIONED, I HAD THE PLEASURE WITH MY FELLOW TRUSTEES AND SUPERINTENDED TO ATTEND THE SPECIAL EDUCATION AND ADULT TRANSITION STUDENT GRADUATION. IT WAS REMARKABLE. I HAD THE PLEASURE OF GOING THROUGH IT A FEW OTHER TIMES AT THE RANCH. SO, THIS IS MORE SPECIAL BECAUSE OF THE RETIREMENT CELEBRATION FOR MR. WILLIE AND THE FABULOUS NURSE AT THE AT NATOMAS HI. AT A PERSONAL LEVEL, LOSING JOEL IS SUCH A LOSS TO OUR COMMUNITY BUT I AM SO EXCITED FOR HIM IN THIS NEXT CHAPTER THAT HE HAS. I AM STILL I WILL SEE HIM AROUND SOMEWHERE. THAT IS THE END OF MY REPORT. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. >> NOEL MORA? >> HAVE A LIMIT TO SHARE AND I ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO THE REPORT . I CAN TOUCH ON EVERYTHING THAT IS HAPPENING LAST MONTH OR SO. SOME OF THE THINGS THAT I CAN BRIEFLY ECHO, THE ADULT TRANSITION GRADUATION CEREMONY AND EVERYTHING THAT HAS BEEN SAID ABOUT HOW GREAT THAT WAS. ALSO, THE VARIOUS RECOGNITION WEEKS, INCLUDING WHAT WE ARE HAVING, RECOGNITION FOR DURING THE MEETING, ASIAN-AMERICAN, PACIFIC ISLANDER HERITAGE MONTH AND NOW THE THINGS THAT I WANT TO TOUCH ON A LITTLE BIT MORE IN DEPTH, I HOPE EVERYONE HAD A GREAT MOTHER'S DAY, I KNOW WE CELEBRATED ON FRIDAY. MY MOM PREFERS TO CELEBRATE ON MEXICAN MOTHER'S DAY. BUT I HOPE IS AN IMPORTAT DAY FOR EVERYONE, HOWEVER THEY CELEBRATE. ALSO HAVING HAD THE CHANCE TO ATTEND THE FUNDRAISING GALA WITH THE PROGRAM. THE HOST WAS A REAL TREAT. JUST BEING ABLE THANK YOU TO MARIANA WHO SCHEDULED ME TO ATTEND. IT IS GREAT TO SEE PEOPLE COME TOGETHER TO ENJOY CELEBRATING A GOOD PROGRAM AND ALSO REALLY START TO USE THOSE WALLETS TO FUND RAISE FOR THINGS THAT WILL HAPPEN AT THAT SCHOOL AND WITH ALL OF THE STUDENTS. SO, I JUST WANTED TO MENTION THAT. ANOTHER EVENT THAT I WANTED TO SHARE IS I HAD THE CHANCE TO ATTEND THE MULTICULTURAL FAIR AT AMERICAN LAKE SCHOOL. THERE WERE A LOT OF PEOPLE, WHICH IS ALWAYS GOOD TO SEE AT ANY SCHOOL. I THINK ONE OF THE THINGS, SOME OF THE THINGS THAT STOOD OUT WERE PEOPLE WHO CAME FOR THE CELEBRATION OF CULTURE. THE STUDENTS HAD MEMORIZED A LOT OF INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT DIFFERENT COUNTRIES THAT THEY CHOSE. I LEARNED SOME REALLY TRICKY FACTS. THERE WAS A LOT OF FOOD, TINY BITES OF FOOD THAT ADDED UP TO A LOT OF FOOD. YOU KNOW HOW THAT GOES. SO, THERE WAS BAKLAVA, JAMAICAN CURRY, STREET CORN, KNOWN AS A LOW DAY. I NEVER GOT TO TRY THAT ONE BECAUSE THE LINE WAS SO LONG. BUT BEING IN THE COMMUNITY IS ALWAYS A GOOD REMINDER OF WHAT THINGS WE HAVE THAT BRING US TOGETHER. ALSO, OF COURSE, SINCE WE ARE AT THE SCHOOL SITE, THE STUDENTS GET SO EXCITED TO SHARE WITH THEIR PARENTS. HERE IS WHAT I DID HERE. THEY POINT OUT THE STUFF THAT THEY DID OVER THERE. I REALLY WANTED TO JUST HIGHLIGHT HOW AMAZING THAT EVENT AT AMERICAN LAKES WAS. OH. ONE THING THAT I DID WEARING MY TRUSTY HAT IN THE NEIGHBORING SCHOOL DISTRICT. IT IS ALWAYS [00:20:01] VERY HEARTFELT WHEN STUDENTS INVITE YOU TO SPEAK AT ANYTHING. I WAS INVITED TO BE THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT THE ELK GROVE UNIFIED LGBT CONFERENCE HOSTED BY THE LGBT STUDENT EMPOWERMENT CLUB. SO, I THINK THEY GAVE ME MORE TIME THAN I HAVE HAD IN MY TIME AS ADDRESSEES OF OUR TO SPEAK. I TOOK THE WHOLE TIME. IT WAS TOO LONG, ACTUALLY. IF I GET 25 MINUTES I WILL USE THE 25 MINUTES. I GOT A CHANCE TO SHARE A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT IT IS LIKE TO BE A SCHOOL BOARD. I NEVER KNEW WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO BE ABLE TO AFFECT CHANGE IN A PLACE LIKE WHERE WE ARE, WERE ALL OF US ARE. I THINK THEY WERE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOLERS. IT IS REALLY HARD TO TELL IF YOU HAVE MAINTAINED THEIR INTEREST. WE GOT THROUGH THE POINTS OF WHAT WE DO AND WHAT I DO. OF COURSE, MY OWN STORY WITH BEING PART OF THE LGBT COMMUNITY. I HAVE A COUPLE MORE THINGS I WANT TO MENTION. ONE OF THEM IS THE MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS CELEBRATION. SO, SOME STUDENTS HAD AS MANY AS TWO LANGUAGES THAT THEY HAVE IN OUR DISTRICT. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF STUDENTS WHO GO THROUGH LANGUAGE. I CAN COMFORTABLY SAY I KNOW THREE LANGUAGES THAT LEARNING A LANGUAGE IS SUCH A BIG ENDEAVOR. I REALLY TIP MY HAT TO OUR STUDENTS. ONE OF THE LAST THINGS THAT I WANT TO MENTION. I WANT TO WISH EVERYBODY A HAPPY GRADUATION SEASON. OUR STUDENT TRUSTEE IF WE SEND THEM THE VIDEO RECORDING OF TODAY'S MEETING OF THE CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR UPCOMING GRADUATION. TO THE CLASS OF 2024, I LOOK FORWARD TO NEXT WEEK WHEN WE REALLY GET TO THROW THE BIG SHEBANG FOR ALL OF OUR HIGH SCHOOLS AND I HAVE HAD A CHANCE. A SNEAK PEEK INTO GRADUATION SEASON WORKING AT OUR LOCAL COLLEGE ON THE STREET. I HAVE HAD A CHANCE TO PARTICIPATE WAS IN GRADUATION CEREMONIES OVER THERE. IT IS ALWAYS REALLY NICE BECAUSE THERE ARE A LOT OF STUDENTS WHO ARE ALUMNI IN OUR DISTRICT AND THEY SOMETIMES SHARE THAT. SO, IT IS NICE TO SEE HOW BROAD OF AN IMPACT IT HAS FOR MOST OF THEM IN OUR AREA AND OUR REGION TO CONTINUE CONTRIBUTING THOSE ARE THE THINGS THAT I WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT I WILL PASS IT BACK OVER TO OUR CHAIR, OUR PRESIDENT. >> THINK YOU, NOEL. THERE ARE A COUPLE THINGS THAT I WANT TO SHARE ABOUT WHAT WAS ATTENDED. THAT WAS THE RECLASSIFICATION AND THE SEAL OF BILITERACY. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME. THIS PARTICULAR NIGHT, ESPECIALLY THE RECLASSIFICATION WHEN YOU RECLASSIFY STUDENTS FROM CAMINO, WHO ARE NOT NATIVE SPEAKERS OF ENGLISH AND THEY ARE NOW MOVING INTO THE CATEGORY OR FOR LACK OF A BETTER WORD, YOU KNOW, AS A NATIVE SPEAKER OF ENGLISH. I THINK THIS IS REALLY A GREAT CELEBRATION BECAUSE MANY OF THEM WORKED VERY HARD TO LEARN THIS SECOND LANGUAGE AND ALSO, ENGLISH IS NOT AN EASY LANGUAGE TO LEARN, LIKE SOME OTHER LANGUAGES. SO, I AM ALWAYS VERY EXCITED WHEN I SEE THE NUMBERS THAT WE HAVE THAT ARE RECLASSIFIED MORE RE-DESIGNATED. ALSO, AS NOEL SAID , THE SEAL OF BILITERACY. TO SEE THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS. I SAW THIS LAST NIGHT, BUT THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS WHO TAKE THE EXAM TO PASS THESE EXAMS, IT IS A REALLY BIG METAL. ALMOST LIKE OLYMPIC MEDALS. THEY GET THESE METALS BECAUSE THEY HAVE LEARNED A SECOND LANGUAGE. THEY HAVE TAKEN IT UPON THEMSELVES TO LEARN A SECOND LANGUAGE. YOU KNOW. SOME OF THEM ARE A THIRD. ONE PERSON MISSED IT BY 20 POINTS. VERY, VERY CLOSE. FOUR LINKAGES. THIS IS VERY IMPRESSIVE WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT WHEN YOU SPEAK ABOUT THAT MANY LANGUAGES, HOW MANY DIFFERENT CULTURES THAT YOU CAN REALLY BE A PART OF IN ADDITION TO YOUR OWN. SO, VERY EXCITING. IT WAS REALLY EXCITING LAST NIGHT. GOOD TURNOUT AT THE HIGH SCHOOL [00:25:06] FOR THE AWARDS NIGHT. PARTICULARLY, THIS IS VERY CLOSE TO MY HEART. MY HUSBAND AND I EVERY YEAR WE GET OUT TWO SCHOLARSHIPS IN MEMORY OF OUR SON. WE GAVE TWO SCHOLARSHIPS LAST NIGHT AND THIS IS MEMBERS OF THE FOOTBALL TEAM BECAUSE MY SON WAS A FOOTBALL COACH. HE PLAYED FOOTBALL THERE AT NATOMAS HIGH. IT IS NICE TO AWARD A SCHOLARSHIP TO TWO PEOPLE. ONE YEAR WE HAD A FEMALE. JUST TO LET YOU KNOW. PRIMARILY, THEY ARE MALES. IT IS EXCITING TO THESE YOUNG PEOPLE. NO, THE GPAS ARE HIGH. 4.0 ON SOME OF THEM. CLOSE TO THE OTHER ONE. JUST ORGANIZATIONS THAT THEY BELONG TO AND IN TERMS OF THEIR SPORTS. SIX SPORTS. I AM LUCKY IF I GET ONE AND THEY HAVE GOT FIVE. SO, GREAT NIGHT LAST NIGHT AND I AM ALWAYS APPRECIATIVE TO THE HIGH SCHOOL FOR ALLOWING US TO RECOGNIZE THESE KIDS EVERY YEAR. I WILL [X.e. Superintendent's Report] TURN IT OVER TO THE SUPERINTENDENT. AND WHAT I HAVE BEEN VERY BUSY SINCE THE LAST BOARD MEETING. OTHER THINGS GOING ON THAT I WILL NOT READ EVERYTHING THAT I HAVE ON HERE. SOME HIGHLIGHTS AND THE GALA. A GREAT HOST THAT USING. ATTENDED THE STATE AND HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK THERE. I DO HAVE TO SHARE ONE STORY I WAS WALKING CLASSROOMS, VISITING I WAS TOLD THAT SHE WAS ATTENDING CLOVIS UNIFIED. I WAS CLOVIS HIGH SCHOOL. AS I STARTED TALKING TO HER, THERE WAS THIS SENSE OF FAMILIARITY. WHERE DID YOU GO TO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. YOU WERE IN MY SECOND GRADE CLASS. SO, TO HAVE ONE OF MY SECOND GRADERS BE A TEACHER HERE AT NATOMAS UNIFIED, THAT IS AMAZING. I REMEMBERED HER. HER BROTHER, HER SISTER. HER LONG BLONDE HAIR. CUTE LITTLE OUTFIT EVERY DAY. SHE WAS A MODEL STUDENT. I REMEMBER HER PARENTS. SO, PEOPLE SAY IT IS A SMALL WORLD. SO, YOU KNOW, JUST SO GREAT TO SEE HER HERE AS A TEACHER. SO, THAT WAS A FUN OPPORTUNITY FOR ME. I WAS ABLE TO WELCOME THE VISITATION TEAM OVER AT LEROY GREENE ACADEMY. SO CONGRATULATIONS TO THEM. THEY ARE WAITING TO HEAR BACK ON THAT. WE CELEBRATED OUR FIRST BLACK GRADUATE ACHIEVEMENT CELEBRATION ON MAY 3RD. I SENT A VIDEO MESSAGE TO THAT OCCASION. I WAS NOT ABLE TO ATTEND BECAUSE MY OWN SON WAS GRADUATING WITH HIS MASTERS DEGREE. ALSO ATTENDED THE MULTI-LEARNER BILINGUAL CELEBRATION. OUR TEACHER OF THE YEAR AT TWO RIVERS. IN THE LIBRARY AND WE WALKED IN LOOKING LIKE PUBLISHERS CLEARINGHOUSE WITH THE FLOWERS OF THE BALLOONS. I THINK SHE THOUGHT WE WERE MAYBE RECOGNIZING A LIBRARIAN. IT WAS NICE TO RECOGNIZE HER. THE SENIOR AWARDS NIGHT AND IT JUST STOOD OUT TO ME THE LEVEL OF OUTREACH TO OUR STUDENTS AND ACHIEVEMENT OUR SCHOLARSHIPS, THE ATHLETIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND SEVERAL OF OUR PARTNERS, THE PRECOLLEGE PARTNER RECOGNITION, UC DAVIS WAS THERE. THE ARK EDUCATIONAL TALENT RESEARCH, IMPROVE YOUR TOMORROW WAS THERE. THEY WERE SO PROUD TO HAVE THEIR SCHOOLS. I SEE SOME FAMILIAR FACES. THE KIDS WERE JUST SO PROUD. I LOVE [00:30:08] THAT OUR PARTNERS WORK WITH US TO GET OUR KIDS ACROSS THE STAGE AND TO HAVE OPPORTUNITIES FOR COLLEGE AND CAREER IN THE FUTURE. SO I AM PROUD WE GET TO RECOGNIZE SOME OF OUR PARTNERS THIS EVENING. BUT WHEN YOU SEE ALL THE KIDS UP ON THE STAGE, IT REALLY MEANS A LOT. ALL OF THE APPRECIATIONS FOR OUR EMPLOYEES. WE ARE SO APPRECIATIVE OF ALL OF THE WORK THAT THEY DO. I WAS ABLE TO SEND OUT A MESSAGE TO ALL OF OUR EMPLOYEES. OUR RETIREES. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO GRADUATION. WAIT UNTIL GRADUATION A GOLDEN 1 CENTER. I AM READY FOR THAT WEEKEND VERY EXCITED. THAT IS SORT OF THE PINNACLE WHEN YOU SEE THOSE KIDS WALK THE STAGE AFTER BEING WITH US AND BEING WITH OUR PROGRAMS. SO, SO MUCH LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT. ONE LITTLE SHOUT OUT. WE HAVE A NEW ON OUR TEAM. NEW TODAY. SO, CONGRATULATIONS TO HER AND HER FAMILY. IT IS VERY EXCITING. THAT IS MY REPORT THIS EVENING. [XI. CONSENT ITEMS] YEAH. CONGRATULATIONS. WE ARE VERY EXCITED. WE GOT THE NEWS. PRINT ONE AT THIS POINT, I AM LOOKING FOR A MOTION AND A SECOND TO PREAPPROVED THE ACCOUNT CALENDAR. WOULD YOU CALL THE ROLE PLEASE? ONE SCOTT DOSICK? LINDOR? ERICKA HARDEN? [XII.a. Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month] SUSAN HEREDIA? NOEL MORA? >> THE MOTION CARRIES 5-0 BE ALL RIGHT. NOW, WE ARE INTO CELEBRATIONS. THIS IS THE DAY FOR CELEBRATIONS HERE. THIS IS ASIAN-AMERICAN AND PACIFIC ISLANDER HERITAGE MONTH. I WILL TURN IT OVER TO DEIDRE. I AM EXCITED FOR MANY REASONS. >> I BECAME A GRANDMOTHER TODAY, SO THAT IS WHY I AM SO FRESH. JUST HAPPEN IF YOU HOURS AGO. SO I AM ALSO EXTREMELY EXCITED BECAUSE I HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CELEBRATE AND RECOGNIZE ASIAN-AMERICAN PACIFIC OUTAGE MONTH. TONIGHT I AM JUST GOING TO SHARE A FEW HIGHLIGHTS ON HOW WE CELEBRATE AND RECOGNIZE ASIAN CULTURE IN OUR DISTRICT. ALTHOUGH CONGRESS PASSD A LAW IN 1992 DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF MAY AS ASIAN-AMERICAN PACIFIC ISLANDER HERITAGE MONTH AT NATOMAS UNIFIED, I AM PROUD TO SAY THAT WE ARE COMMITTED TO CELEBRATING DIVERSITY ALL YEAR LONG. OUR CORE VALUE CLEARLY STATES THAT. THIS IS A PLACE WHERE WE PUT A VALUE ON DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION. WE ARE REMINDED OF THAT HE FAILED PUBLISHERS -- THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT AND EVERY SCHOOL SITE. LAST MONTH WE CELEBRATED OUR DIVERSITY WITH THE FIRST -- I THINK I GOT IT. YES. THANK YOU. OUR FIRST MULTICULTURAL FESTIVAL. AT THAT TIME IT WAS IN APRIL. OUR STUDENT POPULATION CONSISTED OF 60 STRUGGLING WHICH IS AND 81 COUNTRIES REPRESENTED. THIS IS WHY WE ARE THE MOST DIVERSE DISTRICT IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA AND THE SECOND MOST DIVERSE DISTRICT IN THE NATION. DURING THE FESTIVAL WE EDUCATED OUR COMMUNITY WITH THE CULTURES IN OUR COMMITTEE WITH OUR ASIAN AND PACIFIC ISLANDER COMMUNITY. I JUST WANTED TO SHARE WITH YOU SOME HIGHLIGHTS OF THAT. WE HAVE POLYNESIAN DANCERS, WE HAVE THE CULTURAL DANCERS AND WE ALSO HAD SOME OF OUR STUDENTS FROM THE MANDARIN CLUB DOING A LION DANCE AND A CHINESE HOPE DANCE. THEN USE THE THE AUTHOR WITH THE BOOK. HER NAME IS LORI NAKAMURA. SHE IS A FILIPINO AUTHOR WHO WAS ABLE TO READ TO SOME OF OUR STUDENTS AND THAT AUTOGRAPH AND GIVE AWAY HER BOOKS TO MANY OF THEM. WE ALSO HAD ONE OF OUR OWN STUDENT AUTHORS. SHE HAS A BOOK THAT SHE PUBLISHED, POETRY. WE EVEN HAD SOME OF OUR STAFF, THAT IS A PICTURE OF ONE OF OUR STAFF MEMBERS DRESSED IN HER TRADITIONAL ASIAN CULTURAL ATTIRE. WE HAVE MORE FAMILIES. WE EVEN HAD A BOOTH, A INFORMATIONAL BOOTH FROM OUR HONOR SOCIETY WHERE THEY EDUCATED PEOPLE ON THE COMMUNITY BUT THEY ALSO HAD INSTRUMENTS THAT THEY ALLOWED PEOPLE TO SEE. IT WAS A REALLY ENRICHING TIME AND WE WERE ABLE, AGAIN, TO CELEBRATE ALL CULTURES, BUT THOSE WERE SOME THAT I WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT FOR ASIAN-AMERICAN PACIFIC ISLANDER. WE HAVE BEEN CHEERING WITH YOU, OUR FEAST AND LEARN SERIES AND WE ARE PROUD TO SHARE, THIS IS THE LAST ONE OF THE SEASON. SO, [00:35:02] TAKE A LOOK. >> I AM KIM. ONE OF MY CHEFS TODAY. AND WHEN IT IS ASIAN-AMERICAN PACIFIC ISLANDER MONTH. WE WANT TO FEATURE A DISH IN MY FAMILY AND THAT I WOULD LOVE TO SHARE. FROM SAIGON AND THEY INCORPORATE A LITTLE BIT MORE SWEETNESS TO THEIR BROTH. A LITTLE BIT MORE VEGGIES. WE HAVE THE GARNISHES THAT ARE PUT ONTO THE BOWL AFTER. WE BOIL THE NOODLES AND THIS IS RARE STEAK. I HAVE EATEN IT EVER SINCE I CAN REMEMBER. THAT IS HOW I REMEMBER HOW TO USE CHOPSTICKS. IT WAS ACTUALLY BABY FOOD FOR US. WE WOULD HAVE IT AT BREAKFAST, LUNCH AND DINNER. I GREW UP WITH IT. PART OF OUR FAMILY AND JUST THE TRADITIONS THAT WE HAVE. SO, AFTER EIGHT HOURS MINIMUM, 12 HOURS IS IDEAL. YOU WILL GET A GOLDEN BROTH LIKE THIS ON A BOIL. >> THANK YOU FOR WATCHING AND I HOPE YOU TRY OUT THIS RECIPE. IT MEANS A LOT TO OUR FAMILY AND WE JUST WANT TO SHARE THE LOVE WITH YOU GUYS. AS WE CELEBRATE NATIONAL ASIAN-AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH >> ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE DID IN THAT WE PROMISE IS THAT WE WOULD TAKE ALL OF THE RECIPES AND VIDEOS THAT WE HAD THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND COMPILE IT INTO A SCHOOL DISTRICT COOKBOOK. WE WERE ABLE TO DO THAT. WE HAVE A DIGITAL VERSION, THAT IS THE COVER. THIS IS THE HARD COPY VERSION. WE WILL MAKE SURE THAT TRUSTEES, IF YOU DO NOT ALREADY HAVE ONE, YOU CAN KEEP THIS. IT REALLY IS JUST A TESTAMENT TO THE DIVERSITY THAT MAKES UP OUR DISTRICT. LASTLY, I JUST WANT TO MENTION THAT LATER IN THE AGENDA, TRUSTEES WILL BE ASKED TO ADOPT A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING ASIAN-AMERICAN AND PACIFIC ISLANDER HERITAGE MONTH FOR THE ENTIRE DISTRICT. THANK YOU. [XIII.a. Charter School Financial Oversight: Natomas Charter, Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep and Westlake Charter Schools] >> ALL RIGHT. NEXT ON OUR AGENDA IS ITEM 16-LETTER A. THIS IS THE CHARTER WITH PACIFIC PATHWAYS PREP AND WESTLAKE CHARTER SCHOOL AND CHIEF ACADEMIC OFFICER, ANGELA HERRERA, WILL LEAD US THROUGH THIS PRESENTATION. >> THANK YOU. I AM GOING TO INTRODUCE SOME OF OUR CHARTER LEADERS AS THEY COME UP AND PRESENT. TRUSTEES, AS YOU KNOW, THIS IS AN ANNUAL OVERSIGHT ACTION THAT YOU TAKE TO LISTEN TO THESE PRESENTATIONS AROUND THEIR FINANCES. SO, WE ARE GOING IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER AND I AM GOING TO ASK -- FOR HIM TO COME UP AND PRESENT. >> THINK YOU SO MUCH FOR HAVING US THIS EVENING. AS ALWAYS, IT IS WONDERFUL TO BE TRUSTEES AND HAVE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT HER FINANCES AND EQUAL THINGS THAT I'VE BEEN HAPPENING AT THE CHARTER SCHOOL. SO, THIS YEAR, WE ALWAYS HAVE A SCHOOLWIDE GAME EVERY YEAR. THIS YEAR HAS BEEN ABOUT BUILDING LONGING FOR CONNECTION AND COMMUNITY AND CONVERSATIONS. MANY OF US, WE ARE LOOKING UNTIL THE NOVEMBER ELECTION WITH A LOT OF QUESTION MARKS ON WHAT THAT IS GOING TO BE WITH THESE CAMPUSES IN THE COMMUNITY. THIS IS REALLY WHAT WE WANT TO INVEST WITH HOW WE BUILD CONNECTIONS WITH EACH OTHER. WE HAVE THE THE DISTRICT MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS PROGRAMS ARE PLAYING OTHER SCHOOLS IN OUR COMMITTEE. AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR OUR STUDENTS ACTUALLY PERFORMED A PROJECT IN HONOR OF THE PASSING 25 YEARS AGO. PART OF THAT, WE WERE ABLE TO LEARN DIRECTLY FROM THEM. WE HAVE A VERY, VERY ACTIVE ON OUR CAMPUS BE BECAUSE IT IS A PFA, AS ONE OF MY FAVORITE IS ALWAYS STEM NIGHT. I AM IN THE SAME PLACE AS YOU. WE HIRED ONE OF MY FAVORITE AS A -- THAT IS BEEN AN EXPERIENCE. I WASN'T READY FOR THAT. IN THE LOWER [00:40:01] RIGHT CORNER THERE IS WE WILL TALKING ABOUT OUR SCHOOLS FINANCES. GOING THROUGH OUR SECOND INTERIM REPORT IN USING STANDARD FORMAT ON HERE. WE ARE GOING TO HIGHLIGHT SOME OF OUR ASSUMPTIONS. GIVE YOU A SNAPSHOT OF OUR BUDGET AND CASH FLOW RESERVES AND FINANCIAL POSITION. UPDATE ON THE FACILITY PROJECTS. SO, FOR OUR ACTUAL ENROLLMENT THIS YEAR. IT WAS 1865. OUR ATTENDANCE WAS OVER 1700 WE ARE BUDGETING AT 95%. IT ENDED UP COMING IN AT ABOUT 96% ATTENDANCE RATIO USING THE 8.22. AND THEN OUR UNDUPLICATED ACCOUNT, THREE-YEAR ROLLING AVERAGE FOR THE CURRENT YEAR ENDED UP BEING 32.69. SO, WE ARE EXCITED ABOUT THAT BECAUSE WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN LOWER THAN THAT. ALSO, THIS IS ABOUT OUR SECOND YEAR THAT WE DID A PRIORITY ADJUSTMENT ON OUR LOTTERY PREFERENCES AND STUFF WHICH MADE A DIFFERENCE AS WELL IS WORKING WITH OUR AUDITORS ON USING THE ALTERNATIVE INCOME. THAT IS SOMETHING THAT WE ARE PROUD OF. I KNOW THE BOARD ASKED ABOUT THAT IN THE PAST. ALSO, CURRENTLY, OUR AVERAGE IS 11,791. SO, HERE IS THE SNAPSHOT OF OUR SECOND INTERIM REPORT. THE EXPENDITURES ARE ABOUT $30 MILLION WITH DEFICIT SPENDING ABOUT 450,000. PROJECTING TO END THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH 18.4 MILLION. ONE THING THAT I WANT TO POINT OUT WITH THE REVENUE. WE ARE EXCITED BECAUSE WE GOT APPROVED FOR A $50 MILLION FACILITY GRANT PROJECT. DR. WRIGHT IS GOING TO TELL YOU MORE EXCITING DETAILS AT THE END ABOUT THAT. INCLUDED IN THOSE NUMBERS WAS OVER $3 MILLION AS AN EVENT -- ADVANCED FOR SOME OF THE DESIGN PROJECTS FOR THE ONETIME CARRYOVERS WHICH WERE OVER $1 MILLION. PROJECTING THE NEXT TWO YEARS, WE ARE USING THE JANUARY GOVERNOR'S PROPOSAL AT THIS TIME. YOU CAN SEE THAT WE ARE NOT DEFICIT SPENDING IN THE FUTURE AND REJECTING THE BALANCE OF. HERE IS A SNAPSHOT OF OUR REVENUES AND THE REVENUES FOR THIS 69% OF OUR TOTAL REVENUES. WHEN YOU LOOK AT IT IS THE LEGALITIES WE ARE AT ABOUT 77%. THE ONE TIME YOU SPEAK IT UP TO ABOUT 80% OR SO. ALL RIGHT. LOOKING AT THE TWO SUBSEQUENT YEARS, WE WERE USING THE JANUARY DARTBOAR AT THE TIME WITH THE 76% AND 2.73 FOR THE THIRD YEAR OUT WITH THE AVERAGES LISTED ABOVE. OUR ENROLLMENT WAS LOWER THAN CURRENT YEAR. WE ARE PROJECTED TO DO SOME CHANGES TO OUR HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM. WE WERE PROJECTING THAT TO BE ABOUT 95% ATTENDANCE RATIO. 37.95%. EXCITED THAT MAYBE IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS WE ARE GOING TO BREAK THAT 40%. LOOKING AT THE ASSUMPTIONS, ALL ONETIME REVENUES WITH OUR COST ADJUSTMENTS AND PENSION INCREASES. GOING TO THE OPEN ENROLLMENT PERIOD. WE HAVE INCLUDED INFLATION COST BASED ON THE CONSUMER PRICE INDEX. THE ONE-TIME MONEY ON THE EXPENDITURE SIDE WITH THE CAPITAL EXPENDITURE PROJECTS. FOR CASH FLOW, WE OPEN UP THE YEAR WITH $19.2 MILLION. EVERY MONTH HAS BEEN POSITIVE CASH. WE ARE PROJECTING TO CLOSE THE YEAR WITH $20 MILLION. 2024 AND 2025, POSITIVE CASH EVERY SETTLEMENT. WE ARE PROJECTING TO GO DOWN TO 18 MILLION AND THEN THE THIRD YEAR OUT, 18.5. LOOKING AT THE RESERVES HERE. OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS HAS A PHYSICAL RESERVE POLICY OF ABOUT 35%. ECONOMIC [00:45:02] UNCERTAINTIES, THEY WANT AT LEAST 25%. SO, OUR TOTAL EXPENDITURE, THE TOTAL FUND BALANCE IS ABOUT 60% OF OUR TOTAL EXPENDITURES HERE. THIS IS JUST A CONTRACT SHOWING US THE DIFFERENT CATEGORIES. BUT OUR UNRESTRICTED RESERVES AND CASH RESERVES AS WELL AS SOME PLANNING RESERVES AND LONG-TERM FACILITY RESERVES. SO, BASED ON THAT, WE CONSIDER THIS A POSITIVE CASH IN. WE ARE ABLE TO MEET OUR FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS FOR THE TWO SUBSEQUENT YEARS FOR A POSITIVE FUND BALANCE AS WELL. I WILL TURN IT OVER TO DR. WOOD. >> AS WE CLOSE THIS OUT, WE HAVE A FEW MORE WEEKS THAN YOU DO. WE HAVE THE FACILITY PROCESS ON CAMPUS. WE DID A BIG SECURITY UPGRADE TO THE BLACKROCK CAMPUS WITH THE SUPPORTIVE DISTRICT STAFF. WE ALSO DECODED OVER TO OUR PACK VOTING BUSINESS. WE DID THAT BECAUSE AS MENTIONED, WE QUALIFIED FOR A $50 MILLION GRANT ON A $30 MILLION PROJECT ON THE BLACKROCK CAMPUS THAT WOULD ALLOW US TO REPLACE THE BUSINESS OFFICE WHICH YOU KNOW IS KIND OF A NON-DSA APPROVED BUILDING WITH A STORY BEHIND IT. BUT THE POINT WOULD BE TO TAKE REPLACING THAT BUILDING WITH A TWO-STORY CLASSROOM BUILDING AND MAKING SOME OTHER IMPROVEMENTS FOR THE CAMPUS THAT WILL REALLY LET US BETTER SERVE OUR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES AND CHANGING STUDENT POPULATION. LOOKING FOR 2024 AND 2025. WE ARE LOOKING AT OUR PROCESS AND SETTING UP THOSE GOALS. WE DO HAVE A APPREHENSIVE COMPREHENSION PROGRAM AND WE ARE LOOKING AT THAT WITH INCREASING OUR CERTIFICATED SALARIES AND A SLIGHTLY NEW TEACHER SALARY SCHEDULE THAT IS BASED ON A PORTFOLIO MODEL. THEN, I MENTIONED THE BLACKROCK CAMPUS REMODEL PROJECT SO WE ARE IN DESIGN PROCESS OF PHASE ONE RIGHT NOW WHICH WILL BE THAT TWO STORY BUILDING AND COLLABORATING WITH DISTRICT STAFF AND ALL OF YOU WITH LOOKING AT HOW WE CAN FUND PHASE TWO. IN THE END, COLLABORATION WITH THE STAFF. THANK YOU. I AM FORTUNATE TO DO A LOT OF WORK WITH THE SMALL SCHOOL DISTRICT ASSOCIATION. WE ARE SO UNIQUE HERE IN NATOMAS THAT WE HAVE THE ELABORATION BETWEEN THE CHARTER SCHOOLS AND THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. I DEEPLY APPRECIATE THAT. I WOULD NOT WANT TO BE A CHARTER SCHOOL LEADER ANYWHERE ELSE. YOU DO, SITTING IN THE BACK OF THE ROOM EARLIER, I THINK I LITERALLY WORKED WITH EVERY STAFF MEMBER IN THIS ROOM THIS YEAR. THEY HAVE ALL BEEN PHENOMENAL TO WORK WITH AND HAVE REALLY HELPED MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE CAMPUSES THAT ARE OPERATING STRONGLY FOR ALL OF THE STUDENTS THAT WE ARE SERVING. SO, THANK YOU. ANY QUESTIONS? AND WHAT ANY QUESTIONS? SCOTT DOSICK? >> GOOD TO SEE YOU GUYS . FIRST, I JUST WANT TO COMMEND YOU GUYS ON MAINTAINING THE POSITIVE. BUT USING THE NOMENCLATURE OF THE POSITIVE CERTIFICATION MOVING FORWARD. VERY UNCERTAIN TIME WITH THIS RESERVE. I WANT TO ASK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT -- I HAVE SEEN THE RESULTS OF THE INTENTIONALITY. THE TRUSTEE AND PARENT ON THE SITE, I HAVE SEEN HOW YOUR INTENTIONAL EFFORTS WITH REGARDS TO INCREASING DIVERSITY OF YOUR STUDENT BODY HAVE MATERIALIZED AND I WONDER IF YOU CAN ELABORATE ON ADDITION TO CHANGING THE LOTTERY PREFERENCES, WHAT ELSE HAVE YOU DONE THAT RESULTED IN FAIRLY SIGNIFICANT -- >> AS MENTIONED, THE LOTTERY PROCESS DEFINITELY MADE A DIFFERENCE. WE HAVE AN ACCOUNT PREFERENCE THAT IS BUILT INTO OUR LOTTERY. WE HAVE ALSO DONE A LOT OF IN PERSON, MALE BASED OR PAPER-BASED SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING. WE HAVE DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES WORKING WITH OUR OWN FAMILIES ON ARE YOU HAPPY ABOUT THE CHARTER SCHOOL? LET A FRIEND KNOW. SO, DOING A LOT OF WORK THERE, AS WELL. WITH THE DIVERSITY OF OUR STAFF, WE KNOW STUDENTS CAN SEE THEMSELVES IN OUR STAFF MEMBERS, IT IS A PLACE THAT FEELS SAFE AND THEY FEEL A SENSE OF COMMUNITY AND WE ARE INVESTED IN THAT, AS WELL. >> THANK YOU. >> MICAH GRANT? >> DITTO SCOTT DOSICK'S COMMENTS. I WANT TO CALL OUT ON THE BUDGET FOR THE INCREASE RATES. I STILL THINK THAT IS A MONSTER THAT IS COMING THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AT THE STATE LEVEL. I JUST WANT TO SHOUT OUT. >> THANK YOU. WE HAVE BEEN THROUGH MULTIPLE ECONOMIC DOWNTURNS NOW. IT IS ALWAYS JUST A MATTER OF TIME. AS A CHARTER SCHOOL, HE TRIED TO BE VERY FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE FOR THE FUTURE SO THAT WE CAN MINIMIZE ANY IMPACTS TO OUR TEACHERS AND STAFF AND STUDENTS. >> I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING NEW TO ADD. I HAD A QUESTION, BUT I [00:50:04] THINK WE ARE THINKING SIMILARLY. IT IS A TESTAMENT TO HOW COMPREHENSIVE THE PRESENTATION IS NOT TO HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, BUT AS A FELLOW ALUMNI OF MCS, IT IS NICE TO SEE ALL OF THE THINGS THAT ARE IN PROGRESS. EVERY YEAR, JUST GETTING TO WHAT KEEPS BEING ADDED TO THE CULTURE INTO THE THEME THAT I KNOW IS BELONGING. BUT, CONTINUING FOCUS. THAT IS REALLY AMAZING TO SEE. I JUST WANTED TO ADD MY PART TO THE THANK YOU FOR THE INFORMATION . THANK YOU. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. FROM WHAT I KNOW MANY OF YOU HAVE BEEN OUT ON CAMPUS THIS YEAR WITH DIFFERENT PERFORMANCES AND THE PRIDE EVENT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. NEXT YEAR, THE TEAM IS ALL ARE WELCOME. OUR BIG PERFORMANCE IS GOING TO BE HAIRSPRAY. MAKE SURE YOU COME OUT FOR THAT. THANK YOU GUYS. >> THANK YOU. >> THAT IS OKAY. CAN YOU EXPLAIN IN DETAIL WHAT YOU MAKE YOUR PRIORITY ADJUSTMENT WITH THE CHANGES? >> WHEN OUR 2022 CHARTER WAS APPROVED BY THE TRUSTEES, ONE OF THE PREFERENCES THAT WAS ADDED WAS A DUPLICATE ACCOUNT PREFERENCE. IF THEY MEET THE CRITERIA WITH THE ENGLISH LEARNER, HOMELESS USE. THERE IS A PREFERENCE IN THE LOTTERY. IT ENDS UP BEING A HIGH RANKING PREFERENCE WHERE WE HAVE THE SIBLINGS COMING IN AND AFTER THE SIBLINGS COMING IN, IT IS THE NEXT PREFERENCE. WE HAVE SEEN SOME INCREASES IN OUR DEMOGRAPHICS. >> THAT IS AMAZING, THAT IS NICE. ONE LAST QUESTION. WHAT DO YOU FEEL THE BIGGEST STRUGGLE FOR YOUR SCHOOL HAS BEEN THIS YEAR? FROM THE BIGGEST STRUGGLE FOR THE YEAR. GOSH. I THINK IT IS CONTINUING TO NORMALIZE EVERYTHING POST-COVID. I THINK IT CHANGED EVERYTHING. SO, YOU KNOW, THAT MANIFESTED ITSELF IN A LOT OF DIFFERENT WAYS FOR THE MENTAL HEALTH OF OUR STUDENTS. WE HAVE SEEN IMPROVEMENTS IN THAT AREA. THERE IS MORE TO DO ON THE ACADEMIC SIDE. WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE KIDS THAT WERE KINDERGARTNERS OR SIXTH-GRADERS DURING THE COVID CLOSURE YEAR, THERE IS DEFINITELY A BUBBLE GOING THROUGH OUR SYSTEM AND CONTINUING TO SUPPORT AND WORK FOR THEM EVEN THE DYNAMICS IN TERMS OF RELATIONSHIPS WITH FAMILIES HAVE CHANGED. MAKING SURE THAT PEOPLE FEEL WELCOME ON CAMUS KNOWING THAT WE WANT THEM THERE. OUR GOAL IS TO BE COLLABORATIVE PARTNERS IN THIS TOGETHER. CONTINUING TO WORK OUT WITH THAT. >> THANK YOU. ON ONE I JUST HAVE TO SAY THANK YOU FOR THE INFORMATION. I WAS GOING TO BE MY QUESTION FOR SCOTT DOSICK. IT LOOKS LIKE I HAVE SET UP YOUR MANY YEARS AND KEPT WAITING FOR THAT TO COME UP AND NOW THEY FINALLY ARE. >> THANK YOU. >> THANK YOU. >> ALL RIGHT. >> ALL RIGHT. I KNOW THAT BETTY IS GOING TO BE COMING UP WITH SHARON. >> GOOD EVENING. >> WE ARE GOING TO PRESENT THE FINANCIAL REVIEW FOR ALL THREE MIDDLE, HIGH SCHOOL. WE HAVE THE FUNDING FACTORS WITH DISTRIBUTION. MULTIYEAR SUMMARIES WITH THIS PRESENTATION. JUST AS A REMINDER, BASED ON SECOND INTERIM BASED ON UP TO JANUARY 31ST 2034 AND BASED ON THE GOVERNOR'S BUDGETS WITH INFORMATION. SO, MP3 ELEMENTARY, THE ENROLLMENTS WAS 485. A GROWTH OF 45 FROM PRIOR YEARS. EJECTED P2 88 IS A GROWTH FOR 5330 FROM PRIOR YEARS. ALSO REPRESENTED 97% OF ENROLLMENTS. AS HE SAID, THE SPLIT BY GRADES IS BELOW. THE SINGLE YEAR WAS AT 46.39. THE DECREASE OF 46% FROM PRIOR YEARS. FINALLY, THE AVERAGE AMOUNTS FOR STUDENTS BY GREATEST BAND IS SHOWN BELOW. THE REVENUE DISTRIBUTION AS YOU KNOW, THE LARGEST SOURCE OF REVENUE IS BASED ON ATTENDANCE AND FOR MP3 ELEMENTARY, IT WAS 85% OF THE STATE AND FEDERAL REVENUE INTO THE REMAINING FUNDS FROM ECONOMIC RESOURCES AS WELL AS THE RECOVERY, ET CETERA. AS FAR AS EXPENDITURES, THE 72% OF THE TOTAL BUDGETS REPRESENTS THOSE SALARIES AND BENEFITS. AS FAR AS MULTIYEAR PROJECTION WITH EXPENDITURES, [00:55:03] YOU CAN SEE THERE IS EIGHT DIFFERENCE OF ALMOST $560,000. THIS IS DUE TO ONE-TIME EXPENDITURES WITH RESTRICTED RESOURCES. THEY ARE OPERATING AT A SURPLUS. A HEALTHY FUND BALANCE WITH REQUIRED STATE RESERVES.. FOR MP3 MIDDLE SCHOOL, THE ENROLLMENT WAS 512, ALMOST FLAT COMPARED TO LAST YEAR. 496 16 ALSO INCREASED BY EIGHT FROM PRIOR YEARS. GREAT SPENDING BELOW. SINGLE YEAR WAS 43.46. SLIGHT DECREASE FROM PRIOR YEARS. FINALLY, THE AVERAGE IS SHOWN BELOW. LARGEST SOURCE OF REVENUE, ATTENDANCE IS THAT 89%. THE FEDERAL AND REMAINING FUNDS FOR THE PANDEMIC RECOVERY, ET CETERA. 68% OF THE TOTAL BUDGET IS RELATED TO SALARIES AND BENEFITS. MULTIYEAR PROJECTION SIMILAR SCENARIO WITH A HUGE DEFICIT SPENDING FOR 988,000. SUBSEQUENT, IT IS THE CLASS. WITH THE RESERVE AND ALSO MEETING THE STATES REQUIRED RESERVE. FINALLY FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL ENROLLMENTS, 623. FLAT FROM LAST YEAR. ALSO A GROWTH FROM THE PRIOR YEAR BY LIKE 12. SINGLE YEAR WAS AT 40.61. A SLIGHT DECREASE BY .77 PRIOR. THE AMOUNT FOR STUDENTS FROM GRADE 9 TO 12 WAS 13,003 56. LARGEST SOURCE ATTENDANCE OF 22%. EXPENDITURE AT 71% OF TOTAL BUDGET RELATED TO SALARIES AND BENEFITS. 955,000 SUSPENDED FOR CURRENT YEAR AND OPERATING AT A SURPLUS FOR SUBSEQUENT YEARS. AGAIN, MEETING THE STATES RESERVE, AS WELL. AS FAR AS ASSUMPTIONS, WE ARE USING A CONSERVATIVE APPROACH WITH THE SECOND INTERIM, THIS IS .76 INTO 2025 AND 2026. ALL SCHOOLS APPROACHING THE INCREASE OF SUBSEQUENT YEARS IN ENROLLMENTS. WE ARE ALSO USING AN APPROACH FOR USING 95%, AS I MENTIONED BEFORE, THEY ARE USING 97% ATTENDANCE FOR PRIOR YEARS. WE ARE ALSO REMOVING ALL OF THE EXPENDITURES FOR COVID RELATED AND INCLUDING THE INCREASES BASED ON THE PENSION AND ON THE STEPPING COLUMN, AS WELL. SO, IN CONCLUSION FOR FISCAL YEAR 2022 AND 2024. ALL SCHOOLS HAD DEDICATE -- DEFICIT STANDARDS. BUT SUBSEQUENTLY, OPENING THE SURPLUS AND HAVING A HEALTHY RESERVE. THERE FOR, THEY WERE ALL FILED FOR CERTIFICATION. THANK YOU. >> QUESTIONS FOR TRUSTEES. FRED WENT A COUPLE QUESTIONS. FIRST ONE. WHAT ARE YOU ATTRIBUTING THE PROJECTED INCREASE NEXT YEAR AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL? THE 19 ADDITIONAL SPOTS? WE HAVE BEEN AT 20-1 WITH THE CLASSROOMS. BUT WE ARE REPORTING FLAT ENROLLMENT BECAUSE OF THAT. THAT WILL BE A MESSAGE THAT WE WILL BE DELIVERING. WE ARE HAPPY WHERE WE ARE. >> THE NUMBER POPPED A LITTLE BIT OKAY. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ONGOING AND COLLABORATIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIP WITH THE DISTRICT. >> QUESTIONS FROM OTHER MEMBERS OF THE BOARD? >> YES. THANK YOU. WHAT IS THE BIGGEST STRUGGLE FOR YOUR SCHOOL THIS YEAR? >> I WOULD ECHO WHAT NATOMAS CHARTERS SAID. BE SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL HEALTH OF OUR KIDS. WE ARE SO LUCKY THAT ON OUR CAMPUS WE HAVE A LOT OF SCHOOL COUNCILS. TWO AT THE ELEMENTARY, TWO OF THE MIDDLE, TWO AT THE HIGH SCHOOL AND THEN HALF OF OUR ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM [01:00:01] HAS PPS BACKGROUND. IT HAS BEEN A HUGE FOCUS FOR US OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS TO KIND OF COLLABORATE AND MIX THAT EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND WITH THE REST OF THE ADMIN TEAM THAT COMES FROM THE TEACHER WORLD AND THE OTHER SIDE OF US I COME FROM THE COUNSELING WORLD. WE WILL SAY THAT MANIFESTED ITSELF IN ATTENDANCE, GETTING OUR SENIORS TO CROSS AND COME TO SCHOOL AND CROSS THE LINE. BUT ALSO, THOSE POCKETS OF CHILDREN THAT WE CAN TELL WITHOUT THIS PIVOTAL AGES DURING COVID AND THEY ARE ROLLING THROUGH AND SUPPORTING THEM WHERE THEY ARE AT IN THEIR FAMILIES, AS WELL. >> THANK YOU. DID YOU SAY HALF OF ADMIN IS A HIGH SCHOOL? >> OUR K-12 TEAM. SO, I AM INCLUDING PRINCIPLES AND THE MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL IN MY BACKGROUND IS SCHOOL COUNSELOR. YEAH. WE HAVE GOT SOME VICE PRINCIPALS THAT HAVE PPS AND MISSES MORA HERE HAS A TEACHING BACKGROUND. SO WE ARE SPLIT HALF-AND-HALF OR NO. >> YOU. >> I JUST HAVE TO SAY TO SAY THAT YOU HAVE 50% OF YOUR STAFF THAT HAS PPS, THAT IS A GREAT THING. IT IS A LUXURY.. I WILL SAY IT IS A DIFFERENT PLAYER THAN WHAT IT WAS. >> I PROBABLY SHOULDN'T HAVE SAID ANYTHING. >> MR. HUNT IS WATCHING. THERE WAS A TIME WHERE WE WERE IN A DOWNTURN AND I TOLD HIM THAT IF WE HAD TO CUT, WE WERE CUTTING THE PRINCIPAL AND KEEPING THE COUNSELORS. SO, I KNOW THEY ARE CRITICAL ON THE CAMPUS. NOEL MORA, DID YOU HAVE A QUESTION? AND WHAT I DO. THANK YOU FOR ALL OF THE INFORMATION. >> THERE IS A CERTAIN COLLEGE NAME ON IT WHERE I SAY STINGERS UP. I JUST HAVE ONE QUESTION, REALLY FROM CURIOSITY AND FOR THE UNDUPLICATED PUPIL COUNT IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, IT SEEMS SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER DECREAS THAN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL. HAVE YOU BEEN ABLE TO IDENTIFY WHY THAT IS? >> THE OTHER CHARTERS, OUR CHARTER, WE FOLLOW A VERY SIMPLE LIST OF WHAT THE GUIDELINES ARE IN THE STATE FOR CHARTER SCHOOLS. IT IS A PRIORITY IN THE DISTRICT. OUT OF DISTRICT WITH A SIBLING ENROLLED RARELY HAVE THE ADDED DISTRICTS. THE APPLICATIONS WITH THE STUDENTS IN LARGE PART TO SIBLINGS. I THINK WE WILL SEE A CHANGE AT TIMES AND A LOT OF IT WILL BE IN BASED ON THE COUNTY. >> THANK YOU. >> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? >> CAN I JUST SAY FIRST OF ALL, THE CLASS OF 2024, THIS IS A SPECIAL CLASS FOR ALL OF US. I KNOW HOW THEY WEAR THE SWEATSHIRTS, BUT ANYWAY. I DID IT. ON BEHALF OF MP3 AND OUR GRADUATING CLASS OF 2024, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND COMMITMENT TO OUR COMMUNITY. YOUR DEDICATION ALLOWS US TO FOSTER ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AND ALWAYS PROVIDING RESOURCES IN THIS GROUP AND THE LEADERSHIP HERE, THE TEAMS BEHIND YOU, THEY ARE ALWAYS THERE SUPPORTING US AND I APPRECIATE THAT. WE CANNOT DO IT WITHOUT YOU AND WE KNOW THAT. THIS YEAR'S GRADUATING CLASS HAS BEEN INCREDIBLE AND WE ALL KNOW THAT IT STARTED ON ZOOM. THEY HAD ADVISORY TEACHERS OVER ZOOM. WHEN THEY WERE DOING THE SENIOR PROJECT NIGHT, IT LOOKED LIKE ANY OTHER CLASS. WE KNOW WE HAVE COME A LONG WAY, BUT WE COULD NOT HAVE DONE THAT WITHOUT THE SUPPORT. I HATE TO USE THE WORD PANDEMIC, BUT WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT IT. THIS COMMUNITY WITH WHAT THEY DID IN THE LEADERSHIP PROVIDING ALLOWING US TO GET THE STUDENTS BACK ON CAMPUS. THIS CLASS OF 2024 HAS ACCOMPLISHED IT AND IT SHOWS THAT OUR STUDENTS HAVE THE RESILIENCE AND THEY ARE ABLE TO PERSEVERE. I WANT TO SEE THAT 25% OF OUR GRADUATING CLASS IS EARNING BILITERACY. >> THANK YOU ALL. I DO WANT TO SAY ON BEHALF OF THE CLASS OF 2024, WE CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR YOUR SUPPORT. I WOULD NOT GO TO PRINCETON, TRUST ME. BUT I WANT TO SHARE OUR STUDENTS ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND ACCEPTANCES. WE HAVE ONE STUDENT WHO RECEIVED THE QWEST BRIDGE SCHOLARSHIP AND WILL HAVE A FULL RIDE TO M.I.T. WE HAVE ONE STUDENT WAS GOING TO WINSTON AND WILL HAVE 95% OF THE COST COVERED BY THE UNIVERSITY. WE ALSO HAVE MANY UNIVERSITY STUDENTS GOING TO OUR UC CAMPUSES INCLUDING SEVERAL THAT ARE GOING TO UC BERKELEY, DAVIS, IRVINE AND UCLA. WE HAVE MANY OF OUR STUDENTS THAT WILL BE ATTENDING SECOND ESTATE, A.R.C. AND GOING [01:05:04] INTO THE MILITARY. WE RECOGNIZE THE CLASS OF 2012 FOR THE INDUSTRY DISTRICTS. THEY CAN ENTER ALL OF OUR SCHOOLS. WE LOOKED AND WE KNOW WHERE THEY WENT TO ELEMENTARY. WERE SOME OF THEM WENT TO MIDDLE SCHOOL. SO, WE RECOGNIZE THAT THEY ARE PRODUCTS OF AN UST AND WE WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THAT STRONG FOUNDATION THAT WE FOUND FROM THOSE BRIGHT SCHOOLS. SO THANK YOU AGAIN FOR THE SUPPORT. WE ARE REALLY PROUD OF OUR STUDENTS ACCOMPLISHMENTS, BUT IT TAKES AN ENTIRE COMMUNITY. THANK YOU. >> THANK YOU. >> ALL RIGHT. LAST BUT NOT LEAST, THE DIRECTOR, DR. JOHN EICH. >> I WILL BRING MY SAFETY BLANKET HERE. GOOD EVENING. I BOUGHT IT WITH MY FIRST TEACHER PAYCHECK WHEN I WAS A TEACHER AT NATOMAS HIGH SCHOOL. GOOD EVENING BOARD PRESIDENT, ESTEEMED TRUSTEES, SUPERINTENDING CONCILIO. THE INCREDIBLE COMMUNITY. MY NAME IS JOHN I, I AM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF OUR WESTLAKE CHARTER SCHOOL. TONIGHT AT OUR SCHOOL IS OPEN HOUSE BECAUSE I HAVE A SITE BUT WITH SOME OF THE ROOM I WILL TRY TO BE THE SHORTEST PRESENTATION I'VE EVER DONE, WHICH COULD BE 30 MINUTES FOR ME BUT I WILL TRY TO KEEP IT UNDER. I TYPICALLY DO IT FOR CELEBRATIONS BECAUSE WE HAVEN'T GRANTED INCINERATION. I WILL NOT CELEBRATE OUR PLACE IN THE GLOBAL WORLD WITH THE EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY PERSONALIZATION. SO PROUD OF SOME OF OUR HIGH SCHOOL STAFF WHO ARE PART OF THE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND WHAT THE IMPACT IS. ONE OF OUR TEACHERS WHO IS UP THERE WITH US DID AMAZING WORK DIFFERENTIATING LESSON PLANS FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES UTILIZING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE. TEACHES ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY AT AN INCREDIBLY HIGH LEVEL AT THE USE THE APPROVED COURSE BUT USES ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TO DIFFERENTIATE HIS LESSON PLANS TO MAKE SURE SHE STILL NEEDS THOSE HIGH STANDARDS BUT ADDRESSES THE STANDARD THAT A LEVEL THAT IS ACCESSIBLE TO ALL OF HER STUDENTS WITH MILD OR SEVERE DISABILITIES. IT IS A COOL PROJECT THAT I WANT TO CELEBRATE IT AS A PIECE OF INNOVATION. THAT IS ALL THE TIME AVERAGE ELEVATION BECAUSE I HAVE TO GET OFF OF THE STAGE AND HEAD OVER TO OUR CHIEF BUSINESS OFFICER WITH THE PRESENTATION TONIGHT. >> THANK YOU. >> I DO NOT HAVE A FOUR MINUTE TIMER GOING, BUT I WILL GO AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I WILL START OUT BY SAYING THANK YOU TO THE TRUSTEES. WE HAVE BEEN PRESENTING OUR FINANCIALS NOW FOR 20 YEARS. SO, AN INCREDIBLE HONOR TO COME OUT AND PRESENT THE FINANCIAL UPDATE WITH THE FIRST SLIDE DECK ON THE LEFT WITH THE OLD LOGO ON IT AND SOME OF THE TRUSTEES ON THE BOARD THAT ACTUALLY REMEMBER THAT BOARD FROM THAT TIME. THEY ARE BACK AGAIN PRESENTING. THANK YOU SO MUCH. THERE ARE QUITE A FEW NAMES ON HERE . MY EYES GET WORSE EVERY YEAR. SO A LITTLE BIT HARDER TO READ. BUT REALLY, I THINK THE COMMUNITY SHOULD HAVE A SENSE OF PRIDE KNOWING HOW WELL WE WORK TOGETHER FOR THE MANY, MANY DIFFERENT DEPARTMENT. WE WORK WITH FOOD SERVICES MAKING SURE THAT ALL OF OUR KIDS OUR FED WITH THE LEADERSHIP THAT COMES TOGETHER. SO THAT PARTNERSHIP WILL CONTINUE. HOPEFULLY THERE IS A SENSE OF PRIDE WITH HOW CLOSELY WE WORK TOGETHER. BUT, WE ARE HERE TO TALK ABOUT BUDGET AND FINANCE AND FUN STUFF. I WILL GET RIGHT INTO IT. AS YOU HAVE HEARD FROM OTHER PRESENTERS THIS EVENING, REALLY, IT STARTS WITH GETTING BUILDING BLOCKS OF A BUDGET TOGETHER. GETTING INFORMATION FROM THE SERVICES IN TERMS OF NEW INFORMATION. SO, THOSE PIECES OF INFORMATION COME TOGETHER. THEN WE LOOK AT OUR ENROLLMENT, THE AVERAGE ATTENDANCE AT 94% AND THE PUPIL COUNT RATE AT 41%. SO, ALL OF THOSE PIECES COME TOGETHER TO BUILD THE REVENUE SIDE OF OUR BUDGET. WE CAN SEE THE ADOPTED THEIR AND THEN THE BLUE COLUMN THAT ENDED ON THE 31ST. YOU CAN SEE A LITTLE BIT BETTER THAN $18.5 MILLION ON $17.7 MILLION OF EXPENSES. ALSO LOOKING TO HAVE AS A POSITIVE BUDGET. FOR THIS YEAR, AND ALSO THE SUBSEQUENT TWO YEARS, AS WELL. TRUSTEE GRANT HAD ASKED THAT QUESTION LAST YEAR THIS YEAR WITH THE CALCULATIONS. THOSE ARE IN THE BUDGET, WITH THE OTHER THINGS YOU'VE HEARD ABOUT INCLUDING MINIMUM WAGE INCREASES. ANOTHER WAY TO LOOK AT BUDGETS, HOW THE REVENUE [01:10:02] COMES IN AND WHERE IT FLOWS. AS YOU CAN SEE, THE LARGE MAJORITY COMES INTO THE LCF F, THE CONTROLLED FUNDING FORMULA AND THE PA WITH THE PROTECTION ACCOUNT ALL STATE-FUNDED. THEY COME FROM THE STATE. ON THE OTHER SIDE WE CAN SEE WHERE THE MONEY GOES. SURPRISINGLY, THE LARGER MAJORITY GOES TO STAFFING AND BENEFITS A LITTLE BIT MORE THAN 75%. IT IS NOT ONLY ABOUT BUDGETS, IT IS ALSO ABOUT CASH AND CASH FLOW. IN YEARS PAST IT HAS BEEN A LITTLE BIT FAINT. BUT THE GREEN OR THE ACTUAL CASH BALANCE IS FOR EACH PARTICULAR MONTH, AGAIN IN JANUARY, I SHOULD NOTE THAT IN MARCH WE CLOSED ON THE PARCEL FOR A FUTURE HIGH SCHOOL CAMPUS THAT WAS AN ALL CASH DEAL FOR $6.2 MILLION. THAT WILL COME OUT NEXT YEAR WHEN WE COME BACK AND PRESENT. THE NUMBERS MAY LOOK A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT. A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT BECAUSE WE DID CLOSE AND ALL CASH DEAL AFTER THE SECOND PERIOD. >> GETTING BACK TO SIMILAR COMMON LANGUAGE. WE ALSO HAVE A CERTIFIED BUDGET THAT WILL BE POSITIVE WITH THE OBLIGATIONS THIS YEAR AND THE TWO OTHER YEARS. I HAVE -- I WILL ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE. THANK YOU. >> THE QUESTION. WHAT IS THE BIGGEST STRUGGLE FOR YOUR SCHOOL THIS YEAR? >> THAT IS A GREAT QUESTION. IT WAS A FANTASTIC YEAR. I WOULD ECHO WHAT THE OTHER LEADERS SAID TONIGHT. I THINK WHEN I LOOK AT THE THIRD GRADE COHORT TODAY RECOGNIZING THAT THEY STARTED ON SCREEN. THE POWER OF THE FIRST IMPRESSION IS REALLY A DIFFERENCE MAKER. WHEN YOU MEET SOMEONE FOR THE FIRST TIME. WHEN YOU STEP ONTO A CAMPUS FOR THE FIRST TIME. WHEN YOU'RE INDUCTED INTO AN ORGANIZATION FOR THE FIRST TIME. THAT IS A POWERFUL FIRST IMPRESSION. STUDENTS IN THE SCHOOL VIA A SCREEN. I LOOK AT OUR SECOND GRADERS THIS YEAR. WHEN THEY CAME BACK TO SCHOOL IT WAS A HYBRID. WE HARD -- HAD THE SCHOOL HYBRID. I THINK WE STRUGGLED ON THE SOCIAL METRICS I TRYING TO CATCH UP FROM THAT LOSS OF TRUST BETWEEN THE SCHOOL AND OUR COMMUNITY. I WILL THROW A NEW ONE OUT THERE. IT IS A FASCINATING CHALLENGE RIGHT NOW IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA AND ACROSS THE NATION BOTH CERTIFICATED AND CLASSIFIED. CONTINUING THE ORGANIZATIONS IT IS HARD TO EXPLAIN TO SOMEBODY, CHICK-FIL-A IS NOT. RIGHT? WE WILL PAY $20 AN HOUR BUT WE WILL FUND YOUR RETIREMENT. STAFFING IS TRICKY. CERTIFICATED STAFFING APPROVALS ARE MORE DIFFICULT THAN THEY'VE EVER BEEN. SOME HAVE BEEN FORMER STUDENTS THAT I AM VERY PROUD OF, AS WELL. BUT BIG CHANGES THIS YEAR. >> THANK YOU. >> YES. THANK YOU. I HAVE A QUESTION THAT I AM STILL THINKING ABOUT WITH THESE PRESENTATIONS. I AM CURIOUS. I AM ALWAYS CURIOUS. WITH THE PUPIL PERCENTAGE, DID YOU SEE A DECREASE OR INCREASE? IF SO, FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR, IF SO, BY HOW MUCH? >> THAT IS A GOOD QUESTION. GO BACK SEVERAL YEARS WHEN WE FIRST ADJUSTED OUR PREFERENCES TO ENSURE THAT WE FIRST PULLED FREE, REDUCED LUNCH PRIOR TO SIBLINGS. WE SOUGHT A NICE INCREASE OVER A PERIOD OF YEARS. WHEN I FIRST GOT TO THE CHARTER SCHOOL, I BELIEVE WE WERE 12% FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH AND A LOT OF GROWTH OVER THE NOW DECADE. THE DECADE THAT I HAVE BEEN THERE. I THINK 41% LAST YEAR UNDUPLICATED, AS WELL. I THINK THAT IS FLAT FROM LAST YEAR. WE LOOK AT IT. WE JUST DID LOTTERY. WE ALWAYS DO PROJECTIONS BASED ON LOTTERY ON WHERE THEY WILL BE NEXT YEAR. I THINK THAT WE ARE ABOUT THE SAME. I THINK WHAT IS HAPPENING IN HIGH SCHOOL, THEY ARE SEEING AN INCREASE THERE. NEXT HE WILL BE OUR 20TH YEAR. WE KNOW HOW IT ROLLS. WE WILL GRADUATE SENIORS HOPEFULLY EVERY YEAR AFTER HE -- THAT. >> YEAH. >> THINK YOU GUYS. >> IS ACTUALLY MORE OF A THANK YOU. WE WILL GO BACK IN THE WAY BACK MACHINE WERE STEVE AND I SERVED ON THE WEST LAKE BOARD [01:15:03] TOGETHER A LONG TIME AGO. MIGHT REMEMBER THE RESISTANCE WHEN I MADE THE PROPOSAL TO ALTER THE PREFERENCES OF THE LOTTERY. BASICALLY THAT WAS EVEN LESS THOROUGH THAN WHAT YOU GUYS ENDED UP AND LAMENTING OF YEARS AGO. SO I JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU FOR FOLLOWING THROUGH ON THAT COMMITMENT AND SEEING THE RESULTS. IT IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED AFTER FOUR YEARS -- I HAVEN'T SEEN ONE IN A COUPLE OF YEARS. THANK YOU FOR THAT. >> THANK YOU. THANK YOU, EVERYONE, FOR YOUR COOPERATION. A LITTLE NERVOUS BUT I AM GRATEFUL FOR EVERYONE HERE. THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR STUDENTS IN COLLECTIVELY FOR ALL OF OUR STUDENTS. >> THANK YOU, BOTH OF YOU. >> THOSE WERE JUST REPORTS TONIGHT. NOT ACTION. [XIII.b. Proposition 28: The Arts and Music in Schools] >> NOTHING TO TAKE ACTION ON. >> OKAY. THE NEXT ITEM, YOU HAVE THE FLOOR AGAIN. >> THIS IS PROPOSITION 28, THE ARTS AND MUSIC IN SCHOOLS. WE WILL BE MOVING SWIFTLY THROUGH THIS. BRIEF PRESENTATION. PLEASE LET ME DOWN IF YOU NEED MORE TIME ON A CERTAIN SLIDE. AS WE TALKED ABOUT USING FUNDING SOURCES LIKE PROP 28. WE ARE DEFINITELY WANTING TO FOCUS ON OUR CORE VALUES AND VISION FOR OUR STUDENTS. WE ARE GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT PROP 28 IS AND TALK ABOUT SOME POTENTIAL USES IN 2024 AND 2025. A LITTLE BIT OF BACKGROUND, IN NOVEMBER OF 22, VOTERS APPROVED PROP 28. IT IS TITLED THE ART AND MUSIC IN SCHOOLS PROPOSITION. WHAT IT IS INTENDED TO DO IS PROVIDE AN ANNUAL ALLOCATION OF FUNDS THAT SCHOOLS CAN USE TO SUPPORT ARTS AND MUSIC. WHAT IS INTERESTING IS IT IS A NEW, ONGOING PROGRAM TO SUPPORT ARTIST INSTRUCTION IN SCHOOLS AND THIS WAS THE FIRST YEAR THAT IT WAS USED AS A PLANNING YEAR SINCE THAT WAS APPROVED, THAT PROPOSITION WAS APPROVED LAST YEAR. THERE WAS ADDITIONAL INFORMATION THAT WAS ROLLING OUT OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR FROM CDE. THE USE OF THE FUNDS ARE INTENDED FOR ARTS EDUCATION. THINGS LIKE INSTRUCTION AND TRAINING, SUPPLY MATERIALS AND EDUCATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS. HOWEVER, I WANT TO HIGHLIGHT THAT 80% OF SCHOOL SITES ALLOCATION IS INTENDED TO BE USED ON CERTIFICATED OR CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES. THE ADDITIONAL 20% CAN BE USED ON TRAINING SUPPLIES AND MATERIALS. I WANT TO HIGHLIGHT THAT BECAUSE THE USE OF THE FUNDING, YOU HEAR US TALK ABOUT THIS QUITE A BIT WITH SOME OF OUR RESTRICTED FUNDING SOURCES, THAT IT IS INTENDED TO SUPPLEMENT CURRENT WORK, NOT SUPPLANT. FOR EXAMPLE, IF WE HAVE A BAND TEACHER, WHICH WE DO AT THE HIGH SCHOOL, WE CANNOT START PAYING THAT BAND TEACHER SALARY WITH THESE FUNDS. WE WOULD NEED TO ADD SOMETHING ELSE TO THE ART PROGRAM OVER AT THAT SCHOOL. THE ALLOCATIONS ARE ANNUALLY CALCULATED. THEY ARE BASED ON ENROLLMENT IN THE PERCENT OF STUDENTS THAT QUALIFY FOR FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH. WHAT IS INTERESTING IS THE ONGOING FUND TO SUPPLEMENT, NOT SUPPLANT. THERE IS AN ANNUAL ALLOCATION. THE SITE HAS THREE YEARS TO SPEND DOWN THAT ANNUAL ALLOCATION. THERE IS GOING TO BE AN OVERLAPPING OF FUNDS. I WILL SHOW YOU THE AMOUNT THAT EACH OF OUR SCHOOLS ARE CURRENTLY BEING ALLOCATED. THE OTHER THING THAT IS REALLY INTERESTING ABOUT THIS, THIS IS THE SITES MONEY TO USE. WE DON'T GET TO DETERMINE, EXCEPT FOR VERY SMALL AMOUNTS FOR INDIRECT OR ADMINISTERING OF SERVICES. THIS IS THEIR MONEY TO USE. WE WILL OF COURSE SUPPORT THEM. SO, HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF THE PROGRAMS. YOU CAN DEFINITELY SEE THE MEDIA ARTS STARTING TO TALK ABOUT THAT TECHNOLOGY. HERE ARE THE ALLOCATIONS. FOR EACH OF OUR SITES. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE LOOK AT, YOU KNOW, SOME OF OUR SITES, FOR EXAMPLE, DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL, 19,000 DOLLARS. THAT IS NO STAFF MEMBER. THAT IS NOT 80% OF A STAFF MEMBER THAT IS GOING TO BE HELPING THE PARK EDUCATION. BUT, YOU LOOK AT SOME OF THE OTHER SITES. CLEARLY, THERE DEFINITELY IS ENOUGH FOR THE SITE TO EXPAND ON STAFFING. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE REALLY ARE LOOKING AT IS HOW DO WE GET [01:20:04] FEEDBACK FROM FAMILIES ON WHAT IS OF INTEREST IN WHAT IS RELEVANT TO THE DIFFERENT CAMPUSES. SO, OBVIOUSLY, ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, HIGH SCHOOLS. THERE ARE DIFFERENT WAYS THE FUNDS CAN BE EXPENDED. WE ARE LOOKING AT THINGS LIKE STAFFING, THERE ARE A LOT OF WAYS THAT WE CAN USE THESE FUNDS. WE HAVE 400 PARTICIPANTS PROVIDING FEEDBACK WITH DIGITAL ARTS AND MEDIA ARTS WITH THE TOP TWO OFFERINGS THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF. VISUAL ARTS AND THEATER ARE THE TOP TWO THAT THEY WANT TO IMPLEMENT OR INCREASE WITH PROP 28. SO, HERE IS THE INTERESTING THING. I EMPHASIZED 80% TO BE EXPENDED ON STAFFING. HERE IS WHY. YOU JUST HEARD WHY THE CHARTER PARTNERS ARE TALKING ABOUT STAFFING SHORTAGES. THE REALITY IS, LAST SCHOOL YEAR, WE POSTED VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS TEACHING POSITIONS. SEPARATE ART TEACHER. IT TOOK US OVER 18 MONTHS TO FEEL -- PHIL. THE CREDENTIALING ISSUES ARE REAL. IT IS A CHALLENGE TO FIND PEOPLE WITH THE RIGHT CREDENTIALS FOR CERTIFICATED LOANS. SO, START CONSIDERING CLASSIFIED AND STAFFING SHORTAGES ALL AROUND. THAT IS NOT UNIQUE TO US. SO, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT IS BEING WORKED OUT THIS YEAR AT A STATE LEVEL IS SAYING THERE IS AN ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF STAFFING ISSUES. THERE IS A WAIVER THAT THE DISTRICT CAN APPLY FOR IF THEY DON'T MEET THAT 80% TO 20%, YOU KNOW, RATIO. IT IS SOMETHING THAT WOULD HAVE TO BE FROM A DISTRICT PERSPECTIVE, NOT BY EACH INDIVIDUAL SCHOOL FILING FOR A WAIVER. SO, WE HAVE TO MAKE A DETERMINATION OF WHAT THAT PERCENTAGE SPLIT IS GOING TO BE. WHETHER IT IS 6040. WE ARE STILL LEARNING SOME THINGS ABOUT CAN WE MODIFY IT AFTER WE HAVE SUBMITTED A WAIVER? DURING THE COURSE OF THE THREE YEARS THAT WE HAVE TO SPEND IN ALLOCATION. >> CAN I INTERRUPT YOU FOR A SECOND? I THINK THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT AND WE HAVE TO REMEMBER. IF THERE IS A FABULOUS TEACHER AT A SCHOOL WHO TEACHES THEATER OR WHATEVER IT MAY BE, THE MONEY CANNOT GO TOWARDS THAT CURRENT TEACHER. YOU HAVE TO NOW GO OUT AND LOOK FOR ADDITIONAL TEACHERS? AND ONE THAT IS CORRECT. >> THOSE ADDITIONAL TEACHERS ARE NOT GOING TO HAVE LONG-TERM EMPLOYMENT IN OUR DISTRICT. WOULD POTENTIALLY. ONE POTENTIALLY. WE DON'T KNOW. THIS MONEY IS SO CATEGORICAL AS OPPOSED TO A LUMP SUM TO A DISTRICT AND PARCELS IT OUT TO SCHOOLS ALLOWING THEM TO DETERMINE WHAT THEY WANT TO USE IT FOR. IT HAS SOME OF THE MOST RIGID GUIDELINES HERE. PEOPLE THOUGHT THEY WERE SUPPORTING THIS INITIATIVE WHO WOULD NOT WANT MUSIC IN SCHOOL. VOTERS INTO EVER SAID LET'S PUT THE CHECK MARK BY THIS. I JUST WANT TO MAKE THAT DISTINCTION. I THINK HE GAVE ONE OF THE BUDGET REPORTS, WE HAD THIS CONVERSATION ABOUT THE RESTRICTIONS ON THIS MONEY. THERE WOULD BE CHALLENGES, BUT YOU KNOW, OBVIOUSLY, WE FIND WAYS TO WORK AROUND IT. THERE WOULD BE CHALLENGES. >> I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE PUBLIC WATCHING THIS UNDERSTANDS IT IS NOT LIKE WHY DIDN'T YOU HIRE THAT TEACHER? >> THANK YOU. I JUST WANT TO EMPHASIZE , THIS IS SITE DISCRETION FROM MY POSITION OVERSEEING SCHOOLS. I DON'T PERSONALLY HAVE THE ABILITY TO SAY THIS IS HOW YOU FIVE SCHOOLS ARE GOING TO USE YOUR MONEY. I DON'T HAVE THE ABILITY TO AGREE TO THINGS ON THEIR BEHALF IN MY POSITION. YOU KNOW, SUPERINTENDENT, YOU ALSO. SO, THERE IS A BALANCE, TOO, AS WE HELP OUR WILL NAVIGATE HOW DO YOU IT PROPERLY AND HOW TO HONOR THE INTEREST IN THE CULTURE OF THAT SCHOOL TO FIGURE OUT HOW WE DO THIS. IT IS A CHALLENGE AND WE ARE WORKING WITH OUR FAMILIES TO FIND THE MOST CREATIVE WAYS HE CAN DO THIS. SO, THAT BEING SAID, THIS IS SOMETHING THAT, AS A PART OF THE REQUIREMENT OF THE FUNDING WE DO HAVE TO BRING A PLAN. SO, YOU WILL SEE AN ACTION ITEM IN THE JUNE 4TH BOARD MEETING BASED OFF BACK FROM OUR EDUCATIONAL PARTNERS [01:25:02] FROM THE SCHOOLS. JUST TO BE SURE WITH THE ALLOCATIONS. WE CAN COME BACK AND REALIZE THE PLAN AS WE HAVE WITH OTHER PLANS IN THE PAST. THERE IS NO ACTION REQUIRED TONIGHT. I WANTED TO HAVE THE INITIAL CONVERSATION TO BRING AWARENESS TO THE PUBLIC ABOUT THIS. YOU WILL SEE FROM US ON JUNE 5TH, NOT TONIGHT. >> ANY QUESTIONS? ALL RIGHT. TRUSTEE MAURA? FROM WHAT I JUST HAVE ONE QUESTION. THE POTENTIAL FOR CTE TEACHERS. IS THAT DIFFERENT? I KNOW IT IS DIFFERENT FROM THE FUTURE CREDENTIAL, BUT IS IT DIFFERENT FROM OTHER POTENTIAL CLASSIFIEDS? THEY WOULD NOT HAVE A CREDENTIAL. >> THAT IS CORRECT. >> IT IS MORE ABOUT EXPERIENCE AND TIGHT JOB DESCRIPTION AND CLASSIFICATION CLASSIFIED. >> SO, COULD ANY OF THE FUNDING FROM PROP 28 BE USED TO ADD DTE PATHWAYS THAT ARE FOCUSED ON THE INDIVIDUAL -- >> THE WAY THAT IT IS WORDED IS THAT 80% HAS TO GO TO EMPLOYING PEOPLE TO SUPPORT ARTS AND EDUCATION. SO, I WOULD SAY THAT 20% COULD BE USED TO INVEST IN PATHWAYS FOR FUTURE POTENTIAL STAFF MEMBERS. ALSO, PROJECTING FAR DOWN THE PATH ON THE RETURN FROM AN EMPLOYMENT PERSPECTIVE ON THOSE. SO I AM NOT SAYING NO. I AM TESTING IT DOESN'T COUNT TOWARDS THE 80% UNLESS I AM MISTAKEN. >> OKAY. I SEE. SOME OF THE EXAMPLES THAT WERE LISTED WHICH REMINDED ME OF BROADCAST MEDIA WITH THE CTA PATHWAY AND THE OTHER WAYS THAT WE CAN SPEND IN THE CURRENT REALITIES WITH TEACHER SHORTAGES. >> I DON'T KNOW IF I MISUNDERSTOOD YOUR QUESTION BUT I THINK YOU ARE WANTING TO BUILD PATHWAYS FOR STUDENTS WE CERTAINLY COULD HIRE ADDITIONAL TEACHERS. I THINK I WAS MISUNDERSTANDING WHAT YOU ARE SAYING. FROM WHAT I THINK IT IS ALL HELPFUL. THE TWO THINGS ARE POSSIBLE. HIRING MORE TEACHERS AND OTHER KINDS OF SUPPORTS. AGAIN, GIVEN THE REALITIES OF THE TEACHER SHORTAGE, IT WAS JUST SOMETHING THAT COMES TO MIND. >> I THINK THE ISSUE IS WHERE IT GETS TRICKY BECAUSE IF YOU HAVE AN EXISTING PATHWAY THEN YOU COULD NOT USE IT IN THAT EXISTING PATHWAY. ALL GREAT IDEAS AND ONE OF THE REASONS THAT THE SURVEY WENT OUT SO THAT WE CAN SEE WHAT SCHOOL SITES WERE INTERESTED IN. WHAT FAMILIES ARE INTERESTED IN TRYING TO MATCH THE NEED WITH THE AVAILABILITY OF STAFFIN AND WITH CLASSIFIED. YOU COULD BRING IN A CLASSIFIED PERSON TO DO A LESSON BUT A CERTIFICATED TEACHER WOULD STILL NEED TO BE IN THE ROOM, WHICH IS ANOTHER CONSIDERATION. SO, THAT IS WHY THEY ARE REALLY GOING AFTER YOU BRAINSTORM THE PROCESS AND THINK ABOUT ALL OF THE IMPLICATIONS THAT GO ALONG WITH THAT. THAT IS WHY THE PLANNING YEAR IS SO IMPORTANT. >> ONE MORE QUESTION. I NOTICED THE SCHOOL, THE ALLEGATION WAS LISTED AT ZERO. CAN YOU JUST EXPLAIN WHY THAT IS? >> I BELIEVE IT WAS CALCULATED GOING INTO THE SCHOOL YEAR. RIGHT? IT WAS PRIOR TO THEM BEING IN EXISTENCE. >> THANK YOU. >> THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT, MOVING [XIV.a. Public Hearing for Residential and Commercial/Industrial Development School Fee Justification Study (Level I Developer Fees)] ON TO ITEM 14, THIS IS THE PUBLIC HEARING FOR RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT SCHOOLS WITH JUSTIFICATION STUDIES. LEVEL ONE DEVELOPER FEES. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW OPEN THE PUBLIC HEARING FOR THE RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT SCHOOL JUSTIFICATION STUDY LEVEL ONE DEVELOPMENT FEES. I HAVE ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS FOR THIS ACTION ITEM? NOT FOR THIS ITEM. >> SEEING THAT THERE ARE NONE. WE CAN CLOSE THE HEARING. >> ALL RIGHT. IN ONE SECOND. >> CLOSED BY SCOTT DOSICK AND SECOND BY MICAH GRANT. >> SCOTT DOSICK? ERICKA HARDEN? [XV.a. Adopt Residential and Commercial/Industrial Development School Fee Justification Study and Approve the Resolution No. 24-17 to Increase Level I Developer Fees] NOEL MORA? MICAH GRANT? PRESENT AND APPROVE THE 2024 FACILITY MASTER PLAN. SO, DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT AND ASSOCIATE SUPERINTENDENT WILL LEAD US THROUGH THIS PRESENTATION. >> GOOD EVENING . AS HE MENTIONED, TONIGHT WE ARE PRESENTING THE 2024 FACILITY MASTER PLAN. WE WILL SHARE SOME REMINDERS BECAUSE THIS HAS BEEN A YEAR-LONG PROCESS. YOU WILL SEE IN A FEW SLIDES THAT THIS STARTED BACK ON MAY 17TH, LAST YEAR. SO, JUST ABOUT A YEAR FROM NOW. AS WE MOVE FORWARD, WE WILL BE TALKING ABOUT SHARING WHAT THE PURPOSE IS. AS A REMINDER, SHARE THE PARTNER ENGAGEMENT INFORMATION WITH HOW WE ENGAGE EDUCATIONAL PARTNERS THROUGH THIS PROCESS TO WHERE WE ARE AT TODAY WITH THIS PRESENTATION. WE ARE GOING TO SHARE THE ONLINE FACILITY MASTER PLAN WITH SOME SLIDES AND WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE. WE WILL REQUEST APPROVAL OF THE FACILITY MASTER PLAN AND ENSURE NEXT STEPS AS WE MOVE FORWARD WITH THIS PROCESS. SO, AS A REMINDER, MASTER PLAN GUIDANCE OVER THE LAST 10 YEARS. THE MASTER PLAN THAT THE BOARD APPROVED HELPED GUIDE US INTO THE FUTURE WITH DEVELOPMENTS AND FACILITY NEEDS OF OUR SCHOOLS AND NEW SCHOOLS. IN 2017, ADDITIONAL INFORMATION THE SECOND OBLIGATION BOND. HERE WE ARE TONIGHT WITH THE 2024 MASTER PLAN. JUST A REMINDER FOR THE AUDIENCE, A FACILITY MASTER PLAN IS NOT A FUNDING SOURCE. I WILL REPEAT THAT, IT IS JUST WHAT THEY ARE CALLED . NOR DOES FUNDING AUTOMATICALLY COME WITH IT. SO, THIS IS A GUIDING PLAN INTO THE FUTURE AS THE SCHOOL DISTRICT GROWS. YOU'RE GOING TO SEE THROUGHOUT THE PLAN WE WILL TYPICALLY HAVE MORE FACILITY NEEDS THE UNAVAILABLE FACILITY FUNDING. JUST A REMINDER EARLIER THIS YEAR, THE SCHOOL YEAR, NOVEMBER, 2023. WE SHARED WITH OUR COMMUNITY FACILITIES FOOTWORK THAT HIGHLIGHTED WHAT IS BEEN ACCOMPLISHED SINCE THAT 2013 FACILITY MASTER PLAN. TWO GENERAL OBLIGATION PLANS WITH MEASURE L AND MEASURE J. ALSO FACILITY FUNDING SUCH AS DEVELOPER FEES , ET CETERA. THE QUICK CONVERSATION ABOUT THE TIMELINE. AS I MENTIONED AS WE OPENED THIS PRESENTATION, THE BOARD APPROVED BACK IN MAY 17, 2023, THE DEAL FOR ARCHITECTS T ASSIST IN DEVELOPMENT. JOINING US THAT WE DO HAVE A REPRESENTATIVE FROM PLR. SINCE THAT TIME, WE HAVE WORKED DILIGENTLY TO ADJUST THE PLAN AS PRESENTED TONIGHT. WE HAVE A SITE OF PRINCIPLES WITH THEIR FEEDBACK IN 2023. SEVERAL REGIONAL COMMUNITY EVENTS WHERE WE CAN GAIN INFORMATION AND FEEDBACK FROM OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS, EDUCATIONAL PARTNERS, SENT OUT SEVERAL THOUGHT EXCHANGE. OUR PRINCIPALS ENGAGED WITH WILL STAFF BE PROVIDED THE FACILITY MASTER PLA DEVELOPMENT UPDATE BACK IN FEBRUARY. WE ALSO DID ADDITIONAL DEEPER DIVE SURVEYS BASED ON ALL OF THE INFORMATION THAT WE HAVE GATHERED FROM OUR EDUCATIONAL PARTNERS. GOING TO HAND IT OFF WITH MR. WARD TO TALK ABOUT WHAT IS INCLUDED WITH OUR ONLINE FACILITY MASTER PLAN. >> THANK YOU. IT IS QUITE COMPREHENSIVE, AS I MENTIONED BACK IN FEBRUARY. IT GOES THROUGH WHERE WE HAVE BEEN, WHERE WE ARE GOING. WHAT STILL NEEDS TO HAPPEN. WHAT COULD WE DO? AGAIN, IF WE WERE TO LOOK INTO FUNDING. SO, YOU CAN SEE THE ITEMS LISTED THERE. THESE ARE JUST SOME OF THE ITEMS IN THE PLAN. WE ARE GOING TO TAKE A BRIEF LOOK AT IT. IT IS NOW WEB-BASED AND INTERACTIVE. WHAT I MEAN BY INTERACTIVE IS THERE ARE BUTTONSYOU CAN PUSH TO CHANGE -- MOSTLY IN HIS PHYSICAL STUFF LIKE ESCALATION COSTS. YEARS IN CONSTRUCTION. THAT WILL ADJUST THE CONTINGENCIES AND THINGS LIKE THAT. YOU CAN SEE THE DIFFERENT COST FOR IF WE WERE TO BUILD THINGS AT DIFFERENT TIME POINTS BASED ON THE MARKET ECONOMY CONDITIONS AT THE TIME. ANY FUTURE ADDITIONS TO THE FMP [01:35:06] WILL BE BROUGHT FORWARD TO THE BOARD FOR APPROVAL. IF AND WHEN WE GET FUNDING FOR THE ARENA SCHOOL SITE TO GO AHEAD AND START BUILDING, THAT WOULD OBVIOUSLY COME TO YOU FOR APPROVAL AND THEN WE WOULD UPDATE THE PAN -- PLAN BASED ON HAPPY WITH THE FIVE-YEAR BUILDUP INCLUDING 5% ESCALATION WHICH IS WHAT WE ARE SEEING AT THIS POINT AND FACTORING A 10% CONTINGENCY. ALL OF THE PROJECTS THAT ARE OUTLINED RIGHT NOW ARE ABOUT $1.13 BILLION. YOU DID HEAR THAT RIGHT. BILLION. THE REASON FOR THAT. I WILL SHOW YOU IN A FEW MINUTES, A LOT OF OUR SCHOOLS AT THE END OF THIS PLAN , 75% WILL BE OVER 20 YEARS OLD. THEY MAKE IT 20 YEARS CAN WE START INCLUDING THINGS LIKE HVAC REPLACEMENT, ROOF REPLACEMENT, IT IS LIKE OWNING A HOME AND HITTING THAT 20 TO 25 YEAR MARK. REPLACE THE SIDING. THERE ARE A LOT OF THINGS THAT HAPPEN. YOU GET CRACKS IN THE CONCRETE. WE ARE A GROWING DISTRICT AND WE ARE HITTING A LOT OF THOSE. THE GOOD NEWS IS WE HAVE GOT A GREAT PLAN FOR YOU HERE WE HAVE 70 500 MILLION IN NON-CHARTER SCHOOL PROJECTS WITH CHARTER SCHOOL PROJECTS AND THAT 1.3 BILLION. SO, WHEN YOU CLICK ON OUR PLAN, THIS WILL BE UP TOMORROW FOR EVERYONE TO SEE. THIS IS LIKE THE LANDING PAGE. YOU CAN SEE AT THE TOP, THERE ARE BUTTONS WITH A SUMMARY OF SCHOOLS. CHARTER SCHOOLS AND EVEN A TRANSLATE BUTTON. I WILL WALK YOU THROUGH WHAT EACH OF THOSE ARE. THE HOME BUTTON, AS YOU SCROLL DOWN, YOU WILL SEE THERE IS A ROAD MAP TO OUR FUTURE. INFORMATION ON WHAT IS HAPPENING ON THE UPPER RIGHT SIDE. A LINK TO THE PAGE TO GET THE LATEST ON THE DEVELOPMENT. THOSE COSTS IN THE UPPER SIDE WITH ADDITIONAL HIGH SCHOOLS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS PLAN IS WOULD BE ADDITIONAL COSTS FURTHER DOWN THE ROAD DEPENDING ON WHEN THAT HAPPENS, IF AND WHEN. THERE IS ALSO OTHER DEVELOPMENTS THAT ARE PROPOSED AND ON THE WAY FOR DIFFERENT AREAS. ALSO, YOU CAN LOOK AT WHAT IS ACCOMPLISHED WITH OUR 2070 MASTER PLAN. IN EACH SCHOOL SITE YOU CAN SEE WHAT HAS BEEN DONE AND WHAT CAN STILL BE DONE. UNDER THE SUMMARY PAGE THERE IS A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT DATA. WE CHOSE TWO THINGS TO SHOW YOU HERE. ONE IS LOOKING AT FUTURE ENROLLMENT ESTIMATES. YOU CAN SEE THAT THIS GOES UP THROUGH 2033. YOU CAN SEE THE GROWTH OF THE DISTRICT OVER TIME. WE ARE NOT EXPECTED TO SLOW DOWN. THIS IS KIND OF ATYPICAL FOR CALIFORNIA RIGHT NOW. A LOT OF DISTRICTS ARE IN DECLINIG ENROLLMENT, EVEN IN OUR OWN REGION. WE CONTINUE TO GROW. IF THE UPPER WEST SIDE COMES, WE WILL GROW RAPIDLY. BEING IN A PLACE WHERE WE CAN BE READY. THIS PLAN, THE DEVELOPMENT OF THIS AND THEN ALSO THE EDUCATION SPECIFICATION FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL ARE ALL THINGS THAT WE ARE DOING RIGHT NOW TO GET READY SO THAT IF AND WHEN WE NEED TO GROW, WE NEED TO GROW QUICK, WE ARE NOT BURNING TIME PLANNING THINK THAT THAT TIME. WE KNOW THAT TIME IS MONEY. ESCALATION IS, AS YOU SAW, IT IS MILLIONS OF DOLLARS. SO, THAT IS ALL MONEY WE CAN SAVE BY BEING READY WHICH IS WHY WE ARE HERE WITH US. THERE IS ALSO A MASTER PLAN COST ANALYSIS. YOU HAVE THAT 1.13 BILLION BLACK BAR IN THE MIDDLE. YOU CAN ALSO SEE WHAT THE CONTINGENCY COST ARE TO BE LEFT OF THAT THE ESCALATION COST ALONE IN THERE. THE HUNDRED AND $25 MILLION IN ESCALATION OVER THE LIFE OF THIS PLAN. WHATEVER WE CAN DO TO BRING THAT DOWN IS HELPFUL. THAT IS WHY WE HAVE ALL OF THOSE BUTTONS. IN ADDITION, YOU CAN SEE ALL OF IT ON THIS BECAUSE IT IS A SCREENSHOT BUT THERE IS A CHART ON THE BOTTOM. YOU WILL SEE EVERY SCHOOL GOING ACROSS AND THEN GOING DOWN THERE ARE CHARTS AND DIFFERENT THINGS SHOWING HOW MUCH EACH CATEGORY OF SCHOOL WOULD NEED. THAT IS ALL BROKEN OUT INTO THE SALINAS PLAN ON THE LEFT SIDE. WE HAVE DISTRICT SCHOOLS AND WE ALSO HAVE THE DISTRICT INDEPENDENT CHARTERS. WE HAVE MASTER PLANS FOR ALL OF THEM. ALL OF OUR SCHOOLS, PROPERTIES, FOR THE MOST PART. THEY ARE ALL INCLUDED. FOR EXAMPLE, AT AMERICAN LAKES , WHEN YOU CLICK ON EACH SCHOOL, THERE ARE TWO BUTTONS. AN OVERVIEW AND A SITE FACILITY PLAN BUTTON. YOU CAN KIND OF DO A SCENARIO BUILDER. FOR EXAMPLE, AMERICAN LEAGUE SCHOOLS, WE HAVE HIGHLIGHTED $33.6 MILLION WITH THE WORK THAT COULD BE DONE STILL EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE RECENTLY COMPLETED A LOT OF THE CONVERSION. THERE IS STILL OTHER THINGS THAT CAN HAPPEN THERE AS THE SCHOOL CONTINUES TO AGE. YOU SEE THAT NUMBER JUMPS QUITE A BIT. A MUCH BIGGER SCHOOL. IT IS RIGHT AT THE 20 YEAR MARK THIS YEAR. THINGS LIKE HVAC, THOSE BILLS ARE STARTING TO COME DUE, AS WE [01:40:02] HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT. THINGS THAT HAVE TO HAPPEN WITH ADDITIONAL GROWTH.AND THEN THE CHARTER SCHOOL IS A GOOD EXAMPLE. ONE OF THE REASONS MENTIONED EARLIER, THEY ARE WORKING ON A PROJECT. THEY ARE ACTUALLY FELT FUNDING THE FIRST PHASES OF THIS PROJECT WHICH IS ONE NICE AND UNIQUE THING ABOUT CHARTER SCHOOLS. THERE IS A SEPARATE STATE FACILITY BOND JUST FOR CHARTER SCHOOLS IN ADDITION TO THE NORMAL SCHOOL FACILITY BOND THAT ALL OF THE OTHER SCHOOLS GET TO GO FOR. BOTH OF THOSE HAVE RUN DRY FROM THE STATE. BUT IF THE STATE WAS PURSUE ANOTHER ONE ON A BOND, CHARTER SCHOOLS HAVE THAT EXTRA POT OF MONEY TO CHOOSE FROM. SO, THEY ARE SELF FUNDING, WHICH IS WHY YOU SAW THE BIG RESERVE THAT THEY HAD. THE PRODUCT OUTLINED IN THE PROJECT THEY HAVE IN PROCESS RIGHT NOW. WHEN WE PUT THE START TOGETHER. WE ARE TRYING TO SHOW YOU THE AGE OF OUR SCHOOLS. THERE IS A LIMIT OF NUANCE TO THIS. THERE IS A BUILDING. MP3 IS ONE OF THE OLDEST BUILDINGS IN THE DISTRICT AND I GOT EVEN WENT TO SCHOOL THERE. SO, IT HAS BEEN THERE SINCE THE 50S. LATE 50S. YOU CAN SEE AMERICAN LAKES IN GENERAL, THE OLDEST CAMPUS THAT WE HAVE. YOU CAN SEE IN THE MIDDLE, THAT IS WHEN THE BUILDING MORATORIUM WAS IN PLACE UP UNTIL 2015. SO, NOTHING WAS BUILT BETWEEN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND THE CHARTER SCHOOL STAR ACADEMY. EVERYTHING THAT IS GREEN MEANS AT THE END OF THIS 10 YEAR PLAN THOSE SCHOOLS WILL STILL BE OVER 20 YEARS IN AGE. WE WILL NOT BE RECEIVING ALL OF THE BILLS FOR THEM, HOPEFULLY , RIGHT? IF THINGS STAY WELL. 71% OF OUR SCHOOLS WILL BE BEYOND THAT 20 YEAR MARK. MANY OF THEM WELL BEYOND. THAT IS WHEN THEY WILL START COMING DUE, WHICH IS WHY THE MASTER PLAN BECOMES MORE AND MORE EXPENSIVE. SO, SOME NEXT STEPS AND ACTIONS >> IF APPROVED TONIGHT, WE WILL BE POSTING THIS LIVE ON OUR WEBSITE TO THE COMMUNITY MEMBERS CAN ACCESS IT, AS WELL. WE HAVE SHARED WITH TRUSTEES A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO. YOU HAVE HAD AXES FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS TO LOOK AT IT FROM YOUR PERSPECTIVE, YOUR LENS. OUR PRINCIPLES IN CHARTER SCHOOL LEADERS HAVE ALSO HAD ACCESS FOR ABOUT A YEAR, AS WELL. WE HAVE SOME FEEDBACK, AS WELL BEFORE TONIGHT'S PRESENTATION. WE WILL ALSO BE TALKING ABOUT OUR JUNE 4TH PRESENTATION THE DISCUSSION REGARDING FACILITY FINANCING AND THEN ON JUNE 26, 2024, WE ARE LOOKING AT AN ACTION ITEM WITH AN APPROVAL TO REQUEST OR APPROVAL FOR A 9-12 ADDITIONAL CLASSIFICATIONS. WE HAVE EXPECTATIONS FOR OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS WHICH HELPED US GUIDE OUR WORK FOR BUILDING THE VERDE SCHOOL. AS WE MOVE FORWARD FOR A HIGH SCHOOL, POTENTIALLY IN THE UPPER WEST SIDE, WE WILL NEED THOSE PROSPECTS IN PREPARATION FOR A POTENTIAL NEW HIGH SCHOOL. >> CAN I POINT OUT SOMETHING REAL QUICK? >> THERE IS A TYPO. ON JUNE 4TH, I UPDATED IT EARLIER. IT'S ACTUALLY A STUDY SESSION ABOUT THE FINANCIAL PLANNING. IT IS NOT A DISCUSSION FOR A RESOLUTION. THAT WAS EARLY THINKING EARLY ON THAT IT WOULD CHANGE. >> WE HAVE ONE THAT SAYS THAT. >> YOU DO? I AM NOT SURE WHAT HAPPENED WITH THAT. >> COMING BACK TO YOU IN AUGUST WITH A FACILITY FINANCIAL PLAN WITH WHAT WE CURRENTLY HAVE AVAILABLE FOR THE SILLY FINANCING. THEN A LAST MINUTE REMINDER, IT IS A MASTER PLAN DOCUMENT, THE PROJECTS TO BE CONSIDERED INTO THE FUTURE FOR THE NEXT 10 YEARS. AGAIN, FUNDING DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY COME WITH THAT, BUT THE CONSIDERATIONS THAT WE MOVE FORWARD. HOW DO WE WE MOVE FORWARD AS THE DISTRICT GROWS? IT IS MEANT TO BE A GUIDE, NOT A GUARANTEE OF WHAT WILL BE ACCOMPLISHED PRETTY EXPENSIVE FOR ALL OF THE ITEMS FAR EXCEED OUR FINANCING ABILITY AT THIS MOMENT. BUT, IT DOES CALL OUT THE NEEDS OF OUR SCHOOLS THAT ARE AGING INTO THE NEXT 10 YEARS. WE WILL OPEN IT UP FOR QUESTIONS AND REQUEST APPROVAL OF THE MASTER PLAN IS PRESENTED. >> JUST MORE COMMENTS, I THINK. THE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN, I LIKE THAT IT IS ONLINE. IT IS VERY ACCESSIBLE FOR THE PUBLIC TO SEE THE FULL COMPREHENSIVE PICTURE OF WHAT WE ARE LOOKING AT WITH THE BUDGET DECISIONS WITH THE LIMITED DOLLARS THAT WE DO HAVE. SO, KUDOS TO THAT LEVEL OF TRANSPARENCY. WHEN I FIRST GOT HERE, THE THE DISTRICT WAS LIKE A THICK BINDER. IT IS PROBABLY SIMILAR. BUT MOVING INTO THE DIGITAL ERA. I THINK THE WAY THAT WE DO THINGS COMPLETELY TRANSPARENT. A BIG FAN OF THE POTENTIAL BUT YOU CAN SAY WHAT IF IN THAT SCENARIO. THAT IS HELPFUL FOR THE PUBLIC, ALSO FOR THEM TO [01:45:02] INFORM US ON THINGS THAT WE MAY NOT BE SEEING AS TRUSTEES. SO, I LIKE IT. I THINK THE PRIORITIES ARE IN ORDER. LIKE WAS SAID, SOME THINGS HAVE BEEN OUT THERE SINCE ANDY GRIFFITH WAS ON TV. SO, WE WANT TO GET TO THOSE THINGS IN A MANNER THAT IS APPROPRIATE. I WILL MOVE APPROVAL REALIZING THE OTHER TRUSTEES WILL HAVE DISCUSSIONS. >> DITTO . GOOD JOB. THANK YOU. >> I JUST WANTED TO ADD THE THANK YOU COMMENTS. I DON'T KNOW WHO ANDY WAS BUT I'M SURE HE WAS GREAT. I JUST WANTED TO I DON'T GET TO PULL THAT CARD OFTEN. BUT I WILL GOOGLE HIM AFTERWARDS. I AM ASSUMING IT IS A HIM. I AM JUST HAPPY THAT WE ARE A GROWING DISTRICT. SO, THE ALBER -- OLDER NEIGHBORHOODS ARE NOT FORGOTTEN IN THIS. A LOT OF THE MODERNIZATION PROJECTS. A LOT OF THINGS TO HAVE EVERY SCHOOL SITE TO BE AT THE SAME STANDARD. I KNOW THAT IN THE FUTURE MEETINGS WE WILL BE APPROVING SOME THINGS MORE RELATED TO THESE STANDARDS WOULD BE SPECIFICATION EDUCATION SPECIFICATIONS. I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU, I WILL NOT REPEAT EVERYTHING THAT HAS BEEN SAID. YOU KNOW, THE IMPROVEMENTS TO HOW THE PLAN IS PRESENTED, BUT ALSO, JUST THE HOLISTIC FOCUS ON ALL OF NATOMAS, EVEN THOUGH ALL OF NATOMAS IS NOT BUILDING BRAND-NEW NEIGHBORHOODS. SO, THANK YOU. >> THANK YOU. >> IF I COULD JUST ADD ON TO THAT . FIRST TO RESTATE THE THING THAT YOU RESTATED SEVEN TIMES. THIS IS BASICALLY A CATALOG. WE ARE NOT GOING TO EVERY ORDER EVERYTHING OUT OF THE CATALOG. THERE MAY BE THINGS THAT WE WANT TO ORDER THAT ARE NOT IN THE CATALOG. BUT, THIS IS BASICALLY OUR WISH LIST, IF YOU WILL, OF EVERYTHING THAT IS OUT THERE. THEN TO NOEL MORA'S POINT, THIS DISTRICT, ESPECIALLY OVER THE PAST FIVE TO 10 YEARS, REALLY PRIDING ITSELF ON ITS EQUITY LENS AND HOW WE DO EVERYTHING IN THIS DISTRICT AND I AM SURE THAT WILL CONTINUE TO BE THE CASE WHEN WE DO GET TO THE POINT OF PRIORITIZING THE ITEMS FOR WHATEVER EXISTING AND FUTURE SOURCES OF FUNDING WE PURSUE. >> THANK YOU. >> I AM ALWAYS BRING UP THE STUFF THAT PEOPLE DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT, BUT AGAIN, TO THE PUBLIC, WE ARE LOOKING AT 1.13 BILLION. I MEAN, THAT IS OUR ESTIMATED COST SO I THINK THAT IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THAT IN MIND I AM NOT SURE EVERYONE REALIZES THAT TO BUILD A HIGH SCHOOL 300 MILLION. $300 MILLION TO BUILD A HIGH SCHOOL. WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT ALL OF THE MONEY THAT WE HAVE PUT INTO OUR SCHOOLS, I AM SO GLAD WE DID. I THINK WHAT IT DOES IS WHEN WE MAINTAIN OUR SCHOOLS AND BUILD OUT OUR SCHOOLS, I THINK IT SENDS A MESSAGE TO THE PUBLIC INDICATES THAT WE CARE ABOUT YOU. YOU KNOW? MICAH GRANT THOUGHT FOR THOSE TRACKS AT YOUR SCHOOL SITE AND GOT THEM IN THERE. SO, I THINK IT IS VERY IMPORTANT BUT PEOPLE HAVE TO LOOK AT THE COST OF SCHOOLS. IT IS NOT LIKE YOU CAN WRITE A CHECK FOR $60,000 OR SOMETHING IF YOU HAD $60,000 TO DO THAT. BUT IT IS IMPORTANT THANK YOU FOR THE REPORT. I APPRECIATE IT. I'M SORRY. CALL THE ROLL, PLEASE. THE MOTION CARRIES 5-0. [XV.c. Present and Approve Equity Multiplier Plan and Positions] MOVING ON TO 15 C. THE EQUITY MULTIPLIER PLAN AND POSITIONS WITH ANGELA HERRERA. >> ALL RIGHT BUT I JUST WANT TO GET STARTED BUT I WANT TO GIVE A QUICK SHOUT OUT TO OUR PARTNERS THAT ARE HERE. IT IS THE NEXT PRESENTATION. THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE. YOU ARE AMAZING. VERY SHORTLY, WE WILL GET TO YOU. THEY ARE GREAT. OKAY. SO, WE ARE GOING TO TALK [01:50:03] ABOUT THE EQUITY MULTIPLIER. AGAIN, THIS IS A FUNDING SOURCE THAT WILL RUN THROUGH SOME OF THE INFORMATION RELATED TO HOW WE RECEIVE EQUITY MULTIPLIER FUNDS AND TALK ABOUT SOME PUNY ENGAGEMENT AND SOME BUDGET ACTIONS THAT WE WILL BE SEEKING APPROVAL FOR TONIGHT. SO, EQUITY WILL THERE IS AN ANNUAL BUDGET IN THE STATE BUDGET THAT IS AN ADD-ON TO OUR LCF FUNDING AND THE INTENTION IS TO ACCELERATE GAINS CLOSING OPPORTUNITY AND OUTCOME GAPS. SO, NOT EVERY SCHOOL IN THE DISTRICT QUALIFIES FOR MULTIPLIER FUNDS. THE STATE HAS A CALCULATION. THEY LOOK AT THE PLIER -- PRIOR-YEAR WITH WHAT THEY REFERRED TO AS THE NON-STABILITY RATE BEING GREATER THAN 25%. WE WILL TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT THAT MEANS AND THEN WE LOOK AT THE PRIOR-YEAR OF SOCIOECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED PEOPLE RATE BEING GREATER THAN 70%. SO, WE LOOK AT THE PRIOR YEAR'S DATA TO DETERMINE THE GRANT YEARS ALLOCATION. SO, THE REQUIREMENTS OF EQUITY MULTIPLIER, AGAIN, IS TO SUPPLEMENT, NOT SUPPLANT. IT CANNOT REPLACE FUNDING THAT IS BEING EXTENDED ON WORK THAT IS ALREADY BEING DONE. IT HAS TO BE ABOVE AND BEYOND. SO, STARTING TO HEAR THAT. QUITE A FEW DIFFERENT FUNDING SOURCES WHERE WE ARE HAVING THAT REQUIREMENT. IT IS ALLOWING US TO BE CREATIVE. SO, YOU CAN SEE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT IT IDENTIFIES FOR THE SCHOOLS THAT RECEIVE THE FUNDING. DEFINITELY, THAT EDUCATIONAL PARTNER WITH INTEREST HOLDER, THAT IS THE NATURE BACK AROUND HOW IT IS INCORPORATED BECAUSE IT IS ADDED IN. WE WILL TALK ABOUT THIS HERE. WE HAVE OUR L CAP DRAFT UP RIGHT NOW. THERE ARE FIVE DISTRICT GOALS THAT YOU SEE AROUND THE DISTRICT. WE HAVE OUTLINED OUR ACTIONS AND SERVICES TO THOSE FIVE DISTRICT GOALS. WELL, THERE ARE TWO ADDITIONAL GOALS INCLUDED THAT ARE SPECIFICALLY FOR EQUITY MULTIPLIER FUNDING. THOSE TWO GOALS THAT WE BROKE UP, WE LOOK AT THE METRICS FOR SOME OF OUR SCHOOLS. I WANT TO GO BACK VERY QUICKLY. IT MUST BE NEXT. SO, TWO OF THE SCHOOLS THAT QUALIFIED TO RECEIVE EQUITY MULTIPLIER FUNDING. BASED ON COMMON METRICS WHERE THEY NEED SOME ADDITIONAL SUPPORT, WE IDENTIFIED SOME ACTIONS AND SERVICES. I'M GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THEM, BUT YOU CAN SEE THEM LIFTED UNDER GOAL SITES HERE. BENGAL SEVEN, THE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL ARE THE OTHER TWO THAT QUALIFY FOR THE MULTIPLIER FUNDS AND YOU CAN SEE SOME ACTIONS AND SERVICES HERE. AGAIN, I WILL TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THESE. OKAY. HERE WE GO. THIS IS WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. YOU CAN SEE THE NON-STABILITY RATE. WHAT THIS MEANS ESSENTIALLY AS A STUDENT HAS TO BE ENROLLED AT A SCHOOL FOR 225 CONSECUTIVE CALENDAR DAYS., KIND OF AN INTERESTING CALCULATION. BUT, IF IT EXCEEDS 25%, THAT IS ONE OF THE FACTORS. THEN THE SOCIOECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED POPULATION 70%. YOU CAN SEE IT RIGHT HERE IN THE NEW CONTINUED FUNDING. WE ARE TALKING ALMOST $1 MILLION TO EXPAND. NOW, HERE IS THE INTERESTING THING. THIS IS GOING TO BE CALCULATED EVERY YEAR. SO, EVERY YEAR, DEPENDING ON WHERE THE SITES ARE AT AND PRESUMABLY IF WE ARE ABLE TO HAVE A POSITIVE IMPACT OR THERE ARE SHIFTS WITH THE NON-STABILITY RATE, WE MAY HAVE DIFFERENT SCHOOLS THAT QUALIFY THE FOLLOWING YEAR. SO, WE ARE LOOKING TO USE FUNDING TO INVEST IN STAFF MEMBERS BECAUSE LOOK AT THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THERE IS, YOU CANNOT BUY ENOUGH SUPPLIES AND MATERIALS IN THE WORLD TO USE THOSE FUNDS. THERE IS ALSO THIS DYNAMIC THAT WE HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION TO ON AN ANNUAL BASIS AS THOSE NUMBERS ARE CALCULATED, HOW DO WE EXPEND THOSE FUNDS AND ARE WE EXPENDING THAT WITH THE APPROPRIATE SCHOOL? OKAY? THROUGH THE FEEDBACK, DEFINITELY COME AS YOU ARE WELL AWARE, THERE ARE QUITE A FEW SURVEYS, OPPORTUNITIES FOR MEETINGS AT THESE SITES. WE HAVE BEEN MEETING AS A TEAM ALL YEAR WITH THE PRINCIPLES AND BELIEFS BECAUSE WE KNEW THIS MONEY WAS COMING. HERE ARE SOME THEMES FROM THE PARENT GUARDIAN SURVEYS IN THE SPRING. THE MOST RECENT THOUGHT EXCHANGE. OBVIOUSLY, ACADEMIC INTERVENTION AND INCREASED PARENT INDICATION IN FAMILY ENGAGEMENT, EMOTIONAL AND SOCIAL LEARNING EXPERIENCES. HERE ARE SOME EMERGING THEMES. [01:55:01] THE IDEA OF A COMMUNITY LIAISON THAT CAN HELP WITH HOME VISITS, HOME CONNECTION, EVENTS, YOU CAN SEE SOME ADDITIONAL ACADEMIC REPORTS. OKAY? THEN, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT IS HOW WE SUPPORT STUDENTS THAT MIGHT BE SHOWING SOME EARLY STRUGGLES IN THE ACADEMIC SETTING, SOCIAL OR EMOTIONAL. IT IS SOMETHING THAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT DOING AS A PROACTIVE MEASURE TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS. THE INTENTION IS THAT IT IS NOT A SUSPENSION, IT IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO HELP STUDENTS BE IN THE DISTRICT LEARNING LAB TO HELP WITH OTHER MEANS OF CORRECTION. SO, AN OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF TO REFLECT AND BUILD A RELATIONSHIP TO BUILD SOME SKILLS USING RESTORATIVE PRACTICES. THEN TO ALSO PROVIDE THAT SPACE FOR ACADEMIC INTERVENTION AND ENRICHMENT. THERE ARE SOME THINGS THAT WE HAVE TO EVALUATE AS WE TALK ABOUT THIS CONCEPT OF THE RESTORATIVE LEARNING LAB. IT IS AGAIN THE COMBINATION OF HOW A STUDENT FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME 84 TO SIX WEEKS IN A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT SETTING WHERE THEY CAN HAVE DIFFERENT ALLEGATIONS OF TIME TO FOCUS ON SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING AND ACADEMIC SUPPORT. WITH THE ULTIMATE GOAL THAT THEY ARE BACK IN THE REGULAR CLASSROOM SETTING AND THERE IS INCREASED POSITIVE CLIMATE AND CULTURE FOR THE SCHOOL. DEFINITELY FOCUSING ON SYSTEMATIC ACHIEVEMENT OF SOME OF OUR LARGER STUDENT GROUPS. AGAIN, THAT SHORT-TERM INTERVENTION. SO, RIGHT NOW, WHAT WE ARE LOOKING AT IS SERVING STUDENTS THROUGH EIGHTH GRADE. THE IDEA IS SYSTEMS OF SUPPORT. THERE MAY BE OTHER LAYERS OF INTERVENTION THAT HAVE BEEN TRIED. IT CERTAINLY IS AN OPPORTUNITY, THIS RESTORATIVE LEARNING LAB. IT IS A VOLUNTARY SITUATION, A STUDENT WOULD NOT BE FORCED TO BE THERE. THERE IS FAMILY AND STUDENTS ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO THE SHORT-TERM LEARNING LAB AND WOULD NEED TO BE SUPPORTED BY THE PRINCIPAL. WE HAVE A PROMISE PROGRAM. SOME OF YOU MAY BE FAMILIAR WITH IT. IT IS FOR STUDENTS WERE BEING CONSIDERED FOR EXPULSION, THEY END UP GOING INTO THAT PROGRAM. THAT IS NOT WHAT THIS IS. THIS IS AN IN DISTRICT PROGRAM CREATING CONTINUITY FOR STUDENTS, EDUCATION AT NATOMAS UNIFIED. WITH THAT THERE ARE LOTS OF THINGS WE HAVE TO CONSIDER. WE HAVE THIS DREAM, THIS CONCEPTUAL IDEA OF WHAT WE WANT TO PLAN WE NEED TO HAVE STAFF COME TOGETHER FROM A VARIETY OF TEAMS ACROSS THE DISTRICT TO TALK ABOUT HOW WE CAN PULL THIS OFF AND WE HAVE TO TALK ABOUT THINGS LIKE HOW DO WE DETERMINE HOW STUDENTS ENTER? HOW LONG THE PROGRAM IS, WHAT HAPPENS IF THEY ARE CURRENTLY RECEIVING SPECIAL ED SERVICES. HOW DO WE FOCUS ON CREDITS QUESTION THE SINGLE SUBJECT CLASSROOMS. HOW DO WE FOCUS ON THAT FOR OUR SIXTH GRADE THROUGH EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS ENSURING THAT THEY CONTINUE TO FOCUS ON ACADEMICS BUT ARE IN AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE THEY ARE REALLY FOCUSING ON THESE RESTORATIVE PRACTICES AND DEVELOPING SKILLS THAT WILL HELP THEM BE SUCCESSFUL IN SCHOOL. WE HAVE THINGS LIKE OUR SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIALS AND INTERVENTIONS. HOW WOULD THOSE BE IMPLANTED? THE RESTORATIVE PRACTICES. WHAT STEPS NEED TO BE IN THIS RESTORATIVE LEARNING LAB? HOW WILL THEY BE TRAINED? WHAT OTHER ELEMENTS NEED TO BE IN PLACE TO SUPPORT BOTH THE STAFF AND THE STUDENTS AND FAMILIES THAT ARE VOLUNTARILY HAVING THEIR STUDENTS IN A LEARNING LAB ENVIRONMENT FOR A SHORT CYCLE. SO, THESE ARE ALL THINGS THAT WE HAVE TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION OVER THE NEXT YEAR. WE ARE OBVIOUSLY LOOKING AT INCREASED ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OVER METRICS. WE ARE DEFINITELY LOOKING AT DECREASES IN THINGS LIKE SUSPENSIONS AND BEHAVIORS THAT LEAD TO SUSPENSIONS. ATTENDANCE, THE THINGS MORE QUANTITATIVELY FROM SURVEYS AND FEEDBACK FROM FAMILIES. DEFINITELY COME A VARIETY OF METRICS AND INDICATORS THAT WE CAN LOOK AT AND WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT WHAT THOSE ARE. SO, WHEN YOU SEE IN THE DOLLAR AMOUNTS, WE TALK ABOUT THE RESTORATIVE LEARNING LAB PILOT, IT IS THE WORK THAT WE NEED TO DO. WE NEED TO HAVE A TEAM COME TOGETHER, LIKE I MENTIONED. WE NEED TO DO SOME BENCHMARKING, SOME PLANNING SO THAT NEXT SPRING, IDEALLY, WE WOULD BE COMING BACK WITH THESE RECOMMENDATIONS IN A VARIETY OF AREAS ON THE SLIDE. SO, YOU CAN SEE PART OF THE FUNDING REQUEST THAT YOU CAN SEE AT THE END OF THE SITE THAT IS IN PARTICULAR FOR THIS LAB IS ABOUT $275,000. WE WOULD FOCUS PRIMARILY ON THE MIDDLE SCHOOL BECAUSE WE ARE TALKING ABOUT SIXTH GRADE THROUGH EIGHTH GRADE. THE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT WE COULD BE SUPPORTING AMERICAN LAKES WITH [02:00:02] THE SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS THAT ARE THERE AS WE LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS IN THE PLANNING. >> OKAY. THAT WAS A LOT OF INFORMATION. GOING TO KEEP MOVING UNLESS YOU HAVE QUESTIONS SPECIFICALLY ABOUT THAT. I'M GOING TO KEEP MOVING. PERFECT. SO, WE HAVE BROKEN OUT BY SITE HOW WE HOPE TO USE SOME OF THE MULTIPLIER FUNDS PENDING YOUR APPROVAL. FIRST OF ALL, THE COMMUNITY INPUT IS AROUND GREATER CONNECTION IN THE SCHOOL. THERE IS AN INTEREST IN DEVELOPING A FAMILY ENGAGEMENT LIAISON. THESE TWO SCHOOLS BASED ON THE SIZE OF EACH OF THE SCHOOLS, IT NOTES THAT THEY WILL BE SHARED WITH ANOTHER CAMPUS. RIGHT? AMERICAN LAKES, COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL WITH ME AND THE DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL SMALLER CONTINUATION SCHOOL SHARING WITH A LARGER MIDDLE SCHOOL. THAT IS SOMETHING THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO DEVELOP. IT IS A CLASSIFIED POSITION THAT WE ARE LOOKING AT THAT HAS A REALLY INTENTIONAL FOCUS ON THE FAMILY ENGAGEMENT. THERE ARE SOME SUPPORTS IN THE INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANCE WITH BEHAVIOR SUPPORT ASSISTANCE. BOTH OF THOSE ARE ALL OFFENDED BY LONG-TERM MONEY THAT WAS GOING AWAY. IT WAS EXPIRING AT THE END OF THIS YEAR. WE ARE SEEING A POSITIVE IMPACT ON AMERICAN LAKES WITH THOSE INVESTMENTS AND HOW THEY ARE TO HELPING DEVELOP THE CULTURE ON CAMPUS. WE WANT TO CONTINUE THAT WORK AND WE WOULD LIKE TO USE EQUITY MULTIPLIER FUNDING FOR THAT. YOU SEE THIS NOTE IN PART FOR AMERICAN LAKES AROUND THE LEARNING LABS PLANNING YEAR. THEN, AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL, WE HAVE GOTTEN SOME GOOD FEEDBACK FROM THE SITE. THERE IS SOMETHING CALLED STATE AND THAT REALLY HELP WITH THE CAMPUS CLIMATE. THERE IS TRAINING FOR STAFF AND TRAINING FOR STUDENTS. WE DEFINITELY WANT TO SPEND SOME TIME WORKING WITH THE MIDDLE SCHOOL STAFF THROUGH THAT. SOMETHING DIFFERENTIATED FOR THE MIDDLE SCHOOL, THERE ARE SOME GLASSMAN -- CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PRACTICES WE WOULD LIKE TO DO FOR SUMMER MANAGEMENT AND THAT ADDING A FULL-TIME ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR SO WE CAN FOCUS ON THAT CAMPUS CLIMATE AND CULTURE. AN EXCITING PLACE TO BE FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF. THERE IS SOME ADDITIONAL FUNDING. I AM VERY EXCITING TO TALK ABOUT PDI MINISTRY THERE. MARIE SCOTT HAS ACCEPTED A POSITION AS A PRINCIPAL ON A SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT AND THEY WILL BE WORKING TO SUPPORT THESE FOUR SCHOOLS AND REALLY FOCUSING ON HOW WE ARE LOOKING AT OPPORTUNITY GAP IN HELPING OVERCOME THAT. HOW THEY ARE LEVERAGING THESE RESOURCES. I WILL TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THAT POSITION LATER. FOR THE PORTION THAT IS FUNDED OUT OF EQUITY MULTIPLIER. THIS IS THE WORK THAT WE WILL BE SUPPORTING. WE HAVE SOME DISTRICTWIDE POSITIONS THAT WILL BE PARTIALLY FUNDED. BECAUSE WE WILL BE ASKING STAFF TO DO SOME ADDITIONAL WORK RELATED TO THESE FOUR CAMPUSES. THE PROGRESS THAT IS BEING MADE THERE ACROSS MULTIPLE METRICS WE ARE ALSO LOOKING AT ART OF THE SALARY OF THE LIAISON THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO ADD AND SHARE WITH OUR ACADEMY. SO, PART OF THEIR DAY WOULD BE WITH THE SCHOOLS AND THEN SUPPORTING THE LEAP ACADEMY IN THE EVENING. AND YOU CAN SEE A VARIETY OF ACADEMIC SUPPORTS, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, INTERVENTION, THAT WE ARE REQUESTING APPROVAL TO INVEST IN AS WELL AS AN EXPANSION TO OUR DPI COACHING. WE WILL BE TALKING ABOUT THAT A LITTLE BIT IN OUR NEXT PRESENTATION WITH TWO OF OUR PARTNERS TONIGHT. I KNOW THAT IS A LOT INFORMATION. NO ONE DEMANDED ME TO GO SLOWER. BUT WE ARE REQUESTING, AS SUBSCRIBED IN THE PRIOR SLIDES WITH THE EQUITY MULTIPLIER ALLOCATION EXPENDED ON THE ITEMS WE HAVE PRESENTED. I'M GOING TO GO TO QUESTIONS FOR THIS TIME I WILL TRY TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS THAT ARE ASKED, NOT WHAT I HAD IN MY HEAD. IT'S A GOAL. IT IS A GOAL. >> NOEL MORA? >> I WILL BE QUICK. I KNOW THAT WE HAVE ANOTHER ITEM AND A LOT OF COMMUNITY PARTNERS YOU'RE WAITING. THE INNOVATIVE NEW EDITIONS LIKE THE DPI AND RESTORATIVE LEARNING LAB, I THINK IT IS JUST INCREDIBLE. I WANT TO MAKE SURE I VOCALIZE THAT. I THINK IT CAN BE ASSUMED THAT IF WE LEARN THIS, WE CAN BE EXCITED ABOUT IT. BUT, WE CAN NEVER ASSUME THAT IT IS BEING CONVEYED. SO, I WANT TO CONVEY THAT. FOR THE PUBLIC TO [02:05:04] KNOW, THESE FUNDS ARE SPECIFICALLY MEANT TO BE USED FOR THIS INTENDED PURPOSE, IS THAT CORRECT? >> THAT IS CORRECT. >> I KNOW IT IS MENTIONED A COUPLE OF TIMES, BUT JUST FOR THE RECORD TO SHOW. THAT IS IT FOR ME. >> DINKY. >> MICAH GRANT? >> I JUST WANTED TO 525. YOU SAID SOME OF THE CLASSROOM EXPANSIONS, CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE NEXT AGENDA ITEM? AND WHAT SOME OF OUR PARTNERSHIPS ARE INCORPORATED IN THAT. >> OKAY. THANK YOU. >> ERICKA HARDEN? >> I AM THRILLED WITH THE FAMILY LIAISON AND THE SAFE AND CIVIL SCHOOLS. I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT. FOR THE RECORD AND THE PEOPLE AT HOME IN THE AUDIENCE. CAN YOU GO LETTING GO OVER A FEW OF THE ACRONYMS. WE ALL KNOW, BUT LIKE SST? IMP? AND I WILL TAKE THEM TWO AT A TIME. >> STUDENT STUDY TEAM. STUDENT STUDY TEAM. STUDENT STUDY TEAM. >> INDIVIDUALIZE EXECUTION PLAN. POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERMISSION AND SUPPORTS. TRAUMA INFORMED PRACTICE. SPECIAL EDUCATION. RESEARCH AND DATA STAFF. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.. >> MOVE APPROVAL IS PRESENTED. TURN ON SECOND. >> SCOTT DOSICK? MICAH GRANT? [XV.d. Present Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Supports and Resources for African American Student Success and Approve Related Actions] ERICKA HARDEN? SUSAN HEREDIA? NOEL MORA? MONDAY MOTION PASSES. IS A HEFTY SLIDE FOR THE PUBLIC, THIS RESOURCES AVAILABLE ONLINE, AS WELL. WE WILL MOVE QUICKLY THROUGH IT. I DEFINITELY WANT TO SPEND SOME TIME CELEBRATING OUR PARTNERS THAT ARE WITH US TONIGHT. SIX MONTHS AGO TO THE DAY, NOVEMBER 16TH, WE TALKED ABOUT THE PLANS THAT WE HAD THIS YEAR FOR INVESTING SUPPORTS FOR OUR BLACK AND AFRICAN-AMERICAN GROUPS. DATA SHOWS THAT IT IS AND IN SOME CASES UNDERREPRESENTED, ON SOME METRICS, NOT PERFORMING AS HIGH A LEVEL OF SOME OF OUR OTHER SIGNIFICANT STUDENT GROUPS AND IT IS DEFINITELY SOMETHING THAT WE NEED TO FOCUS ON. EACH OF THE AREAS, ALL FIVE OF OUR DISTRICT GOALS, THIS IS A RESOURCE THAT PEOPLE CAN REFER BACK TO. THE SIX MONTH UPDATE, AS I SAID. WE ARE GOING TO TALK ABOUT SOME DATA. WE ARE GOING TO TALK ABOUT WHAT WE TALKED ABOUT TIER ONE AND TIER TWO LITERACY REPORTS. MEANING THE MAJORITY OF OUR STUDENTS, IF NOT ALL, JUST DEPENDING ON THE GRADE SPAMS AND THINGS ARE DEFINITELY RESULTS DRIVEN INVESTMENTS AND BUDGETS FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS. PROGRAMS RECOMMENDING SOME OF THE PARTNERS AND SOME NEXT STEPS. SO, I JUST WANT TO BE CLEAR. I WILL SAY IT EVERY TIME I AM HERE. THERE ARE ALWAYS THINGS THAT WE CAN CELEBRATE, AND THERE ARE ALWAYS THINGS THAT WE HAVE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT WE NEED TO BE BETTER. SO, THERE IS SOME DOUBTED TONIGHT THAT WE WILL ACKNOWLEDGE THAT WE NEED TO DO BETTER FOR OUR KIDS. SO, YOU ARE SEEING SOME OF THAT RIGHT NOW AS YOU LOOK AT OUR ELA AND MATH OVER THE LAST FIVE TESTED YEARS BECAUSE WE HAD A GAP IN THEIR EARS FOR A MOMENT OF TIME THAT WE HAD TO CONTESTING. BLACK AND AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENT GROUP. THEY ARE PERFORMING AT A LOWER LEVEL WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT EFFICIENCY IN E.R.A. AND MATH. ANOTHER INTERESTING THING. WE TALKED ABOUT THAT NON-STABILITY READING AND EQUITY MULTIPLIER FUNDING. YOU KNOW, WE CELEBRATE BEING A DISTRICT OF CHOICE. WE CELEBRATE THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT KIDS HAVE TO CHOOSE PROGRAMS THAT CELEBRATE THINGS THAT ATTRACT STUDENTS TO THIS DISTRICT UNDER CONTROL OF THEIR EDUCATION. YOU CAN SEE THAT. IF YOU LOOK AT OUR 12TH GRADERS, THIS CURRENT COHORT OF 12 CRITTERS THAT WERE IN OUR KINDRED AND YOUR 29% WERE HERE IN KINDERGARTEN. IF YOU LOOK AT THE STUDENT POPULATION, YOU CAN SEE IT IS SLIGHTLY LOWER, BUT PRETTY CONSISTENT. IF YOU LOOK AT OUR 12TH GRADERS FROM OUR CURRENT 12 CRITTERS THAT WERE HERE IN EIGHTH GRADE, IT IS 50% OR SLIGHTLY LESS WITH OUR BLACK AND AFRICAN AMERICANS STUDENT [02:10:03] POPULATION. IT IS NOT A MIXED LOOSE. IT IS HOW WE NEED TO MANAGE OUR RESOURCES AND OUR TIME WHO MAY HAVE BEEN WITH US FOR THE K-12 EXPERIENCE. >> I WOULD SAY THAT THIS IS SOMETHING THAT IS POSITIVE . IN OUR MOST RECENT GRADUATION RATES FROM LAST YEAR. OUR BLACK AND EPIC AND AMERICAN STUDENTS ARE LITTLE BIT LOWER THAN THE DISTRICT AVERAGE. THE YEAR BEFORE THAT, THEY WERE ACTUALLY ON PAR IF NOT SLIGHTLY HIGHER THAN DISTRICT AVERAGE 30 YEAR TO YEAR THERE ARE SOME FLUCTUATIONS IN STUDENT GROUPS, BUT, OVERALL, YOU CAN SEE THAT WE ARE SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER FOR THAT STUDENT GROUP THE AND THE COUNTY AND THE STATE BOTH IN GRADUATION RATES. WE ALWAYS NEED TO FOCUS ON THAT AND IT IS AN AREA TO CELEBRATE. TAKE A QUICK LOOK AT OUR ENROLLMENT AND PASS RATES. WE ARE ALWAYS GOING TO LOOK AT ACCESS FOR VARIOUS PROGRAMS AND COURSES. WE TALKED A LOT ABOUT THIS IN THE BOARD ROOM. YOU CAN SEE THAT THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE ARE FOCUSING ON AS FAR AS ENROLLMENT. SOMETHING AGAIN THAT I WOULD LIKE TO CELEBRATE, DEFINITELY ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT OVERALL, BUT TO SEE THAT OUR STUDENTS IN NINTH AND 12TH GRADE PAST THEIR EXAMS, SPECIFICALLY BLACK AND AFRICAN-AMERICAN POPULATION, IT INCREASED PASSAGE RATES BY 13% WERE ALL STUDENTS PAST AND INCREASED BY 10%. SO, SLIGHTLY HIGHER THEN. THERE ARE EFFORTS IN LEARNING THAT IS HAPPENING THERE. BUT THERE ARE THINGS THAT NEED TO BE DONE. HERE IS A LIST OF SOME INTENTIONAL EFFORTS. YOU KNOW, WE ARE NOT TRYING TO BE CUTE. WE ARE NOT TRYING TO GO BACK A DECADE. WE REALLY TRY TO HONE IN ON THE LAST COUPLE OF SCHOOL YEARS AND RECOGNIZE THE VERY INTENTIONAL WORK DONE BY OUR TRUSTEES TO INCLUDE FUNDING THAT IS INTENDED TO SUPPORT, IN SOME CASES, CONSISTENCY ACROSS THE DISTRICT, BUT IN OTHER CASES, DEFINITELY THIS STUDENT GROUP IN PARTICULAR. SO, THAT IS A NICE CHUNK OF MONEY OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS. ONE OF THE QUESTIONS THAT HAVE BEEN ASKED IS HOW WE PROVIDE INTERVENTION. I WANT TO BE REALLY CLEAR THAT INTERVENTION DOESN'T JUST HAPPEN AFTER SCHOOL. NOT EVERYTHING IS AN AFTERSCHOOL STUDY GROUP OR THE ACADEMY, THOSE ARE GREAT VEHICLES TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE SOME EXTRA SUPPORT. THERE ARE SUPPORTS THAT ARE HAPPENING DURING THE SCHOOL DAY. FIRST OF ALL, IN THE CLASSROOM, ON A DAILY BASIS, STUDENTS ARE CLUSTERED, THEY ARE REGROUPED BASED ON DATA THAT THE TEACHER IS USING. AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE WHAT WE CALL WHATEVER I NEED TIME. THAT IS WHERE STUDENTS CAN RECEIVE SUPPORT. OF COURSE, WE HAVE THE OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOL DAY. TYPICALLY AFTERSCHOOL AND WE USE LEAP AS A VEHICLE TO DO THAT IN MANY CASES. OBVIOUSLY, OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. SO, INTERCESSIONS, WINTER, SPRING, AS WELL AS SUMMER SCHOOL. I WANT TO ALSO EMPHASIZE THAT WE DO HAVE MANY STUDENTS THAT NEED INTERVENTION. WE ALSO HAVE A LOT OF KIDS THAT NEED ENRICHMENT. YOU KNOW? THEY NEED TO KEEP EXPANDING THEMSELVES AND BEING CHALLENGED BY MORE AND MORE CONTENT. SO, WE TALKED ABOUT TIER ONE AND TIER TWO TO REPORTS ACROSS THE DISTRICT. OUR WRITING INITIATIVE AND THE REASON WHY THAT NUMBER IS 72.89 SPECIFICALLY FOR THAT IS THE NUMBER OF KIDS THAT TOOK THE LAST OF MINISTRATION -- DO YOU KNOW THE PERCENTAGE OF THAT? SO, WE HAVE OUR SPRINGBOARD COLLABORATIVE. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WAS SHARED TO US WITH OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO LOOK INTO. WE WILL TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THAT IN A MINUTE. BUT THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE ARE VERY HAPPY TO PILOT SPRING AND 200 REGISTERED FOR SUMMER SCHOOL ALREADY. WE ARE USING IT FOR 1ST AND THIRD GRADE IN PARTICULAR, BUT READING STRATEGIES IN PARTNERSHIP WITH FAMILIES WHO SUPPORT OUR READERS. WE ALSO HAVE THESE OTHER PLATFORMS TO HELP THE DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENTS. SOME READING SUPPORT FOR ELEMENTARY AND THEN WE HAVE WORKED QUITE A BIT WITH DR. HOLLY, WHO WE WILL TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT TONIGHT IN TERMS OF TEACHING -- IN ADDITION, THESE ARE SOME OTHER INVESTMENTS THAT ARE BEING PROVIDED ON A WIDE SCALE AS WE ARE PILOTING IN THE FALL WERE INTRODUCING IN THE FALL. SO, SO SPECIFICALLY WITH DR. HOLLY, WE CALLED THIS OUT BECAUSE HE DID NOT COME IN AND JUST DO AN ALL STAFF TRAINING AND SAY THANK YOU AND WE WERE DONE. HE HAS BEEN WITH US FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS. IN ADDITION WITH DOING WIDE STAFF [02:15:02] DEVELOPMENT DAYS WITH HUNDREDS OF STAFF MEMBERS, HE ALSO HAS BEEN PROVIDING TARGETED SUPPORT TO OUR PRINCIPLES. THEY HAVE BEEN COACHING OUR PRINCIPLES ALL YEAR. WORKING AT OUR CAMPUSES WITH THE HUNDRED AND 13 STAFF ON IN CLASS COACHING THIS YEAR. THIS IS A VARIETY OF WAYS THAT WE HAVE BEEN FOCUSING ON PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TO SUPPORT OUR STAFF. OKAY. NOW WE ARE GOING TO TALK MORE ABOUT INTENTIONAL PROGRAMS FOR BLACK AND AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENTS. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT HAVE COME UP SEVERAL TIMES. IT IS ACTUALLY A DEPARTMENT CALLED AFRICAN-AMERICAN ACADEMIC ACCELERATION DOWN IN FRESNO UNIFIED. WE HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR SEVERAL STAFF MEMBERS TO DIG INTO THAT AND TALK TO SOME OF THEIR STAFF TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IS IT FOR? WHAT IS IT THAT YOU DO? WE WERE ABLE TO LEARN SOME THINGS ABOUT WHAT THEY DO. I AM NOT GOING TO WALK THROUGH THIS, BUT I WANT TO SHOW YOU THAT FRESNO UNIFIED IS ABOUT FOUR OR FIVE TIMES OUR SIZE? AND WHEN THEY ARE ABOUT 70,000 STUDENTS. QUITE A BIT LARGER THAN WHEN ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION. THEY HAVE THE DEPARTMENT OF ABOUT 12 STAFF, BUT THEY ARE ALSO FUNDED WITH ONE-TIME FUNDING. WE ARE TRYING TO ACCOUNT FOR THAT. WE ARE LOOKING AT HOW WE CAN SUSTAINABLY USE STAFF IN OUR SYSTEM TO SUPPORT THIS WORK. THERE MAY BE A VARIETY OF AREAS WHERE I AM VERY HAPPY WITH HOW WE ARE PROVIDING SUPPORT TO OUR STUDENTS. THERE ARE THINGS THAT WE STARTED JUST THIS YEAR A, WORKING WITH BSC TO DO OUR GRADUATE ACHIEVEMENT CELEBRATION THIS MONTH. IT WAS FANTASTIC. YOU KNOW? THERE ARE THINGS LIKE THAT WHERE WE ARE BEGINNING TO IMPLEMENT THEM. THIS IS A REFERENCE FOR PEOPLE TO GO BACK AND LOOK AND WE WILL TALK ABOUT SOME OF THESE MORE SPECIFICALLY. WANT TO GO TO STOP HERE FOR JUST A BRIEF MOMENT. THERE IS ONE THING I LIKE TO CALL OUT ACROSS BOTH PROGRAMS, THAT THERE IS A PARENT ENGAGEMENT PORTION. I DON'T KNOW WHY THAT RECEIVES A LOT OF PUSHBACK. WE TALKED ABOUT THE PARENT ENGAGEMENT PORTION. THE OTHER THING I WOULD LIKE TO MAYBE SUGGEST FOR THE DISTRICT IS THAT A LOT OF THE GAPS IN UNDERSTANDING COMES FROM MAY BE THE SAME OPPORTUNITIES WE HAVE HAD TO FACILITATE THESE CONVERSATIONS AT A DISTRICT TO DISTRICT LEVEL, MAYBE WE COULD DO A CONFERENCE CALL WIT STAKEHOLDER GROUPS AND LET THEM TALK ABOUT THEIR SUCCESSES AND TALK ABOUT THEIR CHALLENGES, AS WELL. IF THERE WERE A MAGIC MOMENT TO FIX A LITERACY CRISIS THAT WE ARE FACING, I WOULD HIRE IT IN A SECOND. BUT THERE IS A COMPREHENSIVE LIST OF THINGS WE HAVE DONE AND IF WE LOOK AT IT, THERE ARE MATCHING PROGRAMS THAT WE ARE IMPLEMENTING. SO, I WOULD PROPOSE AT SOME POINT, MAYBE JUST FOR THE STAKEHOLDERS THAT I DEEPLY CARE ABOUT, RIGHT? I AM NOT SAYING THIS IN ANY CRITICAL WAY. BUT TALK. LET'S MAKE SURE WE CONNECT SO IT IS NOT JUST US GETTING A DISTRICT PRESENTATION, THANK YOU FOR THE FEEDBACK. >> ONE THING I WANT TO HIGHLIGHT WHEN WE TALK ABOUT BEHAVIOR CONCERNS. THEY HAVE SOMETHING THAT IS THE ACADEMIC CENTER THEY ARE TRYING TO PROVIDE A PLACE FOR THEM WHERE THEY CAN CONTINUE TO WORK ON SCHOOL WORK AND STAY CONNECTED ACADEMICALLY. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE ARE LOOKING AND REALLY TRYING TO BE MORE PROACTIVE AND RESTORATIVE PRIOR TO GETTING TO THAT STEP. WE ARE VERY THANKFUL THAT YOU JUST INVESTED THE MONEY FOR US TO START PLAYING FOR THAT PROACTIVE APPROACH BUT I JUST WANTED TO SHARE, A LEAP ACADEMY UPDATE. WE ARE REALLY PROUD OF WHAT WE DID IN THE WINTER INTERCESSION WE WERE ABLE TO PROVIDE BOOK BUNDLES TO FAMILIES THAT ARE -- MATERIALS CURATED BY DR. HOLLY AND HIS TEAM. THEY DID THAT SPRING INTERCESSION AND THEN 11 LENDING LIBRARIES AT EACH OF OUR SITES. I WANT TO CALL OUT THE REPRESENTATION OF OUR BLACK AND AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENTS IN THOSE WINTER AND SPRING SESSIONS BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, THE QUESTION ABOUT MAKING SURE THAT THEY ARE APPROPRIATELY REPRESENTED IN OUR DISTRICT . THE AVERAGE IS ABOUT 21% ENROLLMENT FOR BLACK AND IN AMERICAN STUDENTS. YOU CAN SEE IT SLIGHTLY OVER IN THESE GROUPS. FOR 2024 AND 202. VERY EXCITED. 500 SEATS TO SERVE OUR SITES. AS WE LOOK AT THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS THAT WILL BE SERVED BY LEAP, YOU CAN SEE THAT ABOUT [02:20:06] 16.5% ARE BLACK AND AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENTS. THOSE THAT HAVE THE PRIORITY ENROLLMENT CRITERIA, WHICH I WILL SHOW FOR THE PUBLIC ON THE NEXT FLIGHT, THEY ALL RECEIVED ENROLLMENT, THERE IS NOT A WAITING LIST FOR THOSE STUDENTS. BUT, WE ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO DO TARGETED MESSAGING AND PHONE CALLS TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS, PARTICULARLY IN THE STUDENT GROUP, UNDERSTAND THE OPPORTUNITY FOR THE SUMMER PROGRAM. THERE IS A VARIETY OF SUPPORTS THAT ARE GOING TO BE PROVIDED THROUGH LEAP ACADEMY. IN ADDITION, I TALKED ABOUT SPRINGBOARD COLLABORATIVE. IT IS AN EARLY LITERACY INTERVENTION. SOMETHING THAT IS REAL EXCITING WITH THE -- YOU TALKED ABOUT THIS QUITE A BIT. THE COLLABORATION AND SUPPORT FROM THE PARENT. REALLY ONE OF THE ELEMENTS OF THIS IS THAT THE TEACHERS ARE WORKING WITH THE PARENTS AND GIVING THEM STRATEGIES AND QUESTIONING TOOLS THAT THEY CAN USE WHEN THE STUDENTS ARE COMING HOME AND TALK ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE GETTING. PROVIDIN THEM AWAY TO ENGAGE IN MEANINGFUL CONVERSATION WITH WHAT ALLIES -- ALIGNS WITH THE SCHOOL CONVERSATION. WE WANT TO MAKE THAT CONNECTION TO HIM AND HOW FAMILIES UNDERSTAND HOW IMPORTANT THE ROLE IS IN THIS. AGAIN, YOU CAN SEE AT 21.6%, YOU CAN SEE THE SPRING PILOT STUDENT GROUP, WHAT THEIR ENROLLMENT IS AND YOU CAN SEE THE SUMMER PROGRAMMING, AGAIN. SLIGHTLY ABOVE THE DISTRICT AVERAGE. SO, THIS IS REALLY JUST FOR THE PUBLIC. IT IS A PLUG FOR MAKING SURE THEY KNOW HOW TO ACCESS REGISTERING IN THE TIMELINES ASSOCIATED WITH THAT. WE DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING REMAINING FOR THOSE STUDENTS THAT ARE IN THAT ENROLLMENT CATEGORY. FOR THE PUBLIC, TALKING ABOUT THE NUMBER OF SEATS THAT EACH OF OUR SITES HAS WITH OUR DIFFERENT PARTNERS. SPEAKING OF PARTNERS, WE ARE GOING TALK ABOUT SOME OF OUR PROGRAMS. I HAVE TO TELL YOU, WE ARE WORKING WITH FREEDOM SOUL MEDIA. WE HAVE THE LOCK PROGRAM THAT WE PILOTED. IT WAS UP TO 100 STUDENTS AT POTOMAC MIDDLE SCHOOL AND 200 STUDENTS AT NATOMAS SCHOOL. ALL MONTH THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR AND REALLY, THEY GO THROUGH SOME BOOKS AND OPPORTUNITIES TO WRITE, TO READ FROM A CULTURAL LENS. I HAVE TO TELL YOU THIS. I ACCIDENTALLY ENDED UP WHEN I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE AT DISCOVERED VISITING TODAY MADE MY WAY INTO THE LIBRARY AND I RAN INTO TYSON HE RUNS THE PROGRAM. IT IS THE FIRST OF FOUR SESSIONS HE HAD THAT DAY. HE AND I WERE KIND OF TALKING, TALKING ABOUT THIS PRESENTATION. IS HIS TEAM HERE TONIGHT? WE WANT TO HONOR THEM AND RECOGNIZE THEM AS BEING PART OF OUR PARTNERS. I ENDED UP SPENDING FIVE HOURS THERE AND I GOT TO MEET WITH EVERY GROUP. I MET WITH OVER 100 STUDENTS THAT WERE PARTICIPATING IN THAT GRAM. CULMINATING THEIR LAST SESSION TOGETHER. YOU'RE GOING TO HEAR ME TALK A LITTLE BIT TONIGHT. OUR KIDS ARE AMAZING. THEY ARE SO AWARE, SO EMPATHETIC. I WAS VERY THANKFUL THAT I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET THERE. I WILL SHARE A FEW THINGS. BUT I WILL TELL YOU IS THE THINGS THAT THEY SAID THAT THEY FELT LIKE THEY NEEDED WERE APPRECIATED OR ALL OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WERE INVESTING IN. ALL OF THE DECISIONS THAT YOU WERE MAKING HER IN THAT DIRECTION. WHAT I REALIZE IS A PART OF IT IS SOMETIMES, SOME OF THAT INFORMATION DOES NOT FEED DOWN TO THEM. YOU KNOW QUESTION THE WAY THAT WE WOULD HOPE. FIGURING OUT HOW TO CLOSE THAT GAP IN MAKE SURE THAT THEY UNDERSTAND THINGS WITH OUR DIVERSE TEACHER PROGRAM BECAUSE THAT IS A BIG CONVERSATION THAT WE HAVE. SO, I AM REALLY THANKFUL TO TYSON THAT HE ALLOWED ME TO DO THAT AND IT WAS MORE IMPACTFUL FOR ME THAN IT WAS FOR HIM. I WILL INVITE THEM TO TALK TO YOU TONIGHT. THERE IS A VIDEO INCLUDED HERE FOR THE PUBLIC, IT IS NOT A MINUTE AND A HALF. IT WILL DESCRIBE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU ARE SEEING IN THE PROGRAM. TYSON WAS THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT OUR CELEBRATION A COUPLE WEEKS AGO FOR OUR BLACK SENIOR CELEBRATION. HUNTER, IS NOT SOMETHING THAT WE ARE PAYING A SUM OF MONEY TO TO BE PARTNERS WITH US. THEY DO SOME ENTERING ON SATURDAYS EVERY MONTH. ALSO, THEY ARE PEOPLE LARGELY FROM THE BUSINESS WORLD THAT ARE COMING INTO OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL CAMPUSES. WE CALLED ON THEM LAST YEAR. WE HAVE A PRETTY SIGNIFICANT INCIDENT HAPPENED AT ONE OF OUR SCHOOLS IN THE SHOWED UP IN FORCE IN BLANKETED THAT CAMPUS AND WERE ENGAGING WITH THE KIDS, WALKING AROUND [02:25:02] AT LUNCH AND PASSING PERIODS TO MAKE SURE THOSE KIDS STILL HAVE CONNECTION. THERE IS SUCH A VALUE IN PARTNERS THAT ARE WILLING TO COME AT THE DROP OF THE HAT, TAKE A PHONE CALL AND SAY WE WILL GET SOME PEOPLE THERE. SO, I JUST WANT TO RECOGNIZE THAT. GIRLS IN ROBOTICS. VERY EXCITED. WE WILL BE PARTNERING WITH UC DAVIS THIS SUMMER. IT IS A SMALL GROUP THAT WE ARE LOOKING AT A PROGRAM FOR 20 MIDDLE SCHOOL IN 20 HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS THAT IDENTIFY AS BLACK OR AFRICAN-AMERICAN AND REALLY WANTING TO ENCOURAGE THOSE THAT WANT TO BE THOSE CREATORS IN THE STEM FIELD AND REALLY WHAT OUR CONTRIBUION IS ABOUT $10,000 TO HELPMAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE THE STAFFING AVAILABLE WITH THE ACTIVITIES FOR THE COURSE OF THE WEEK AND THEN MENTOR SHIP IN THE COMING SCHOOL YEAR. SO, VERY EXCITED TO BE INVESTING IN THAT FOR OUR YOUNG LADIES. I AM GOING TO ASK, WE CANNOT DO THIS ALONE. SHE IS GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT THE NEXT LIGHT. SHE IS GOING TO HIGHLIGHT THE NEXT THING ABOUT OUR PARTNERSHIPS >> THANK YOU SO MUCH BEFORE I GO OVER THE NEXT CHUNK OF SLIDES. I WANT TO REMIND TRUSTEES AND FOR THOSE WHO ARE NEW ONE OF THEM WILL BE INTENTIONAL FOR GETTING THE VOICE WITH THE REPRESENTATION WITH OUR UNDERREPRESENTED FAMILIES. AS THAT GOES THROUGH THESE SLIDES, SIMILAR EXISTING PROGRAMS, SOME ARE NEW WITH THE LAND THAT WE OPERATE WITHIN THE KATHY DEPARTMENT. WE ARE ALL IMPROVING TOMORROW WHERE WE WILL PARTNER WITH US FOR ABOUT FIVE YEARS NOW. WE KNOW THAT THE FOCUS IS GETTING THEM TO GRADUATE. HAVE THEY DO THAT IS THROUGH MENTORING. SO COME OUT OF THAT, 289, 193 OF THEM ARE BLACK AND EPIC AND AMERICAN MEALS. YOU CONTINUE SCHOOLS WHERE THEY ARE REPRESENTED AT. SO, IN ADDITION TO THAT, 75% OF LAST YEAR'S CLASS ARE ENROLLED IN COLLEGE. THOSE ARE STUDENTS THAT HAVE COMPLETED SEMESTERS ENROLLED. SOMETHING THAT WE WILL BE DOING TOMORROW THAT WE ARE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT IS. TUTORING. THIS IS WHERE STUDENTS WILL BE TUTORED BY THEIR OWN PEERS AND THEN THEY WILL GET A STIPEND AND SOMETHING TOWARDS THEIR COLLEGE TUITION. ALSO, THE FAMILY ENGAGEMENT COMPONENT. WE WILL HAVE PARENT LIAISONS. THESE WOULD BE PARENTS THAT ACTUALLY HAVE CHILDREN ENROLLED AT SPECIFIC SCHOOLS. NATOMAS HIGH SCHOOLS ARE WHERE WE ARE GOING TO BE PILOTING THAT THIS UPCOMING YEAR. THAT IS PRETTY EXCITING. ALL THINGS PRETTY INCORPORATED. WE WANT SOMETHING FOR OUR GIRLS. OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS, WE HAVE BEEN VERY, VERY INTENTIONAL ABOUT FINDING PROGRAMS TO SUPPORT OUR YOUNG GIRLS AND LADIES. ALL THINGS PRETTY IS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL. REALLY, THE FOCUS IS TO BUILD SELF-CONFIDENCE. IT IS TEACHING THEM POSITIVE CONFLICT RESOLUTION SCALES -- SKILLS. I MET WITH THE FOUNDER YESTERDAY. SHE SAID THAT THEY GET SO MANY GIRLS WHO WERE NOT IN THE PROGRAM TO COME. HE DOES WANT TO. THEY ARE HEARING ABOUT IT. SO, IT IS ALL OVER CAMPUS. IT IS VERY POSITIVE. JUST REALLY GOOD. ONE THING I DID WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU, YOU CAN LOOK AT THIS LATER IN THE PRESENTATION. BUT THIS IS SOME OF THE RESPONSE WE HAVE GOTTEN FROM THE GIRLS THAT COMPLETED THE SURVEY. IT WAS PRETTY HIGH IN TERMS OF HOW THEY FEEL THAT THE PROGRAM IS HELPING THEM TO MOVE FORWARD. >> I VIBE IS SOMETHING THAT WE HAVE DONE THE PAST TWO YEARS. THIS WILL BE THE THIRD YEAR. IT IS A GIRLS MENTORING PROGRAM THAT WE OFFER DURING THE SUMMER . IT IS LIKE A CAMP WHERE GIRLS COME AND HAVE FUN. AGAIN, WHILE THEY ARE HAVING FUN, THEY ARE GETTING THOSE LESSONS, THOSE SKILLS ABOUT SELF-CONFIDENCE, USING THEIR VOICE, HEALTH AND WELLNESS, BEING A GOOD FRIEND, MAKING POSITIVE CHOICES. SO, WE ARE EXCITED ABOUT THAT. WE HAVE HAD A NICE OUTPOURING OF PEOPLE INTERESTED IN THE PROGRAM. WE ARE EXCITED TO OFFER THAT THIS SUMMER AT CASA VERDE. WE HAVE BEEN A PARTNER WITH YOU CAN FOR QUITE SOME TIME. JUST A REMINDER, THE FOCUS IS ON OUR HISTORICALLY BLACK COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES. ALTHOUGH, THE WORK THAT THEY DO TRANSFERS ALL OVER TO ANY COLLEGE OF OUR [02:30:08] STUDENTS MIGHT WANT TO GO TO. BECAUSE WE LIVE IN CALIFORNIA, OUR STUDENTS DO NOT GET AN OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE THE HBC YOU EXPERIENCE. SO, YOU CAN BRINGS THAT TO THEM. THEY MEET WITH THEM WEEKLY AND THEY FIND OPPORTUNITY IS TO EXPOSE THEM. THIS IS ONE. OUR STUDENTS WERE ABLE TO ATTEND TWO COLLEGE FAIRS. ONE TOOK A FIELD TRIP AND THE OTHER ONE WE HOSTED AT THE NATOMAS HIGH SCHOOL THE SCHOOL YEAR . 85 HOURS STUDENTS ATTENDED. ONE OF THE GREAT RINGS IS THAT STUDENTS THAT QUALIFY CAN GET ON THE SPOT ADMISSION AND I VERIFED THAT 15 RECEIVED ON THE SPOT ADMISSIONS TO COLLEGE. SO, THAT IS VERY, VERY EXCITING. SOMETHING NEW THAT WE PARTNERED WITH YOU CAN THIS YEAR AT THE HIGH SCHOOL. AGAIN, THIS IS GIRLS MENTORING. THE PROGRAM IS CALLED GEMS. RIGHT NOW, WE HAVE 59 STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THE PROGRAM. I DID VERIFY 100% OF THE STUDENTS ARE BLACK, AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENTS. THERE IS SOME CRITERIA THERE. BUT IT IS A SIMILAR FOCUS. TRYING TO FIND WAYS FOR THEM TO LEARN POSITIVE CONFLICT RESOLUTION SKILLS. SELF-CONFIDENCE, CAREER SKILLS. THEY BRING IN ROLE MODELS. JUST TRYING TO HAVE A POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR THE YOUNG LADIES TO BE SUCCESSFUL AND EXCEL. IT WAS A PILOT THAT WE STARTED AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS YEAR AND IT WAS GOING TO CONTINUE NEXT YEAR. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT MISS HERRERA MENTIONED THAT WE HAVE BEEN DOING A LOT WITH OUR BLACK STUDENT UNION. THIS IS STUDENT VOICES, THE CAFE WORKS WITH THEM. WE WORK WITH ALL SORTS OF STUDENT GROUPS. FOR THIS PRESENTATION, I JUST WANT TO HIGHLIGHT SOME OF THINGS WE HAVE DONE THIS YEAR. SO, WE HAVE MET WITH BLACK STUDENT UNIONS AS WELL AS THE HIGH SCHOOL. THIS IS THEIR FIRST YEAR. WE ALSO PAID FOR A MEMBERSHIP. SO, THE KATHY DEPARTMENT, WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR STUDENTS GOT INVOLVED IN IT REALLY GIVES THEM ACCESS TO RESOURCES, LEARNING MORE, AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND A CONFERENCE. WE ALSO SUPPORTED OUR BSU AT THE HIGH SCHOOL. THEY WANTED TO HAVE A BLACK EXCELLENCE BALL. THIS IS THE STUDENT VOICES THE STUDENTS WANTED TO HAVE. IT WAS STUDENT LED. THEY PRESENTED THE AWARDS. THEY GOT WITH THE TEACHERS AND THE TEACHERS HAD SOMETHING REALLY POSITIVE AND ENCOURAGING TO SAY ABOUT THE CAMP -- THE FAMILIES CAME. CAFE WAS THERE TO SUPPORT THEM AND HELP THEM TO MAKE DECISIONS MAKE SURE THAT IT WAS A NICE AFFAIR. WE TOOK IT A STEP FURTHER AND ONE OF THE SCHOOLS SAID YOU KNOW, WE WANT TO HAVE SOME KIND OF CELEBRATION FOR OUR SENIORS. MCCAFE SAID BUT IF YOU COMBINED IT? IF YOU DO IT, YOU KNOW, WOULDN'T IT BE GREAT IF YOU ALL DID IT TOGETHER? SO, WE GOT THE THREE TOGETHER AND WAS ABLE TO BUILD UP ON THAT ONE IDEA FROM THE BSU. IT WAS A WONDERFUL AFFAIR. HERE ARE SOME PHOTOS. ALL OF THE PHOTOS ARE GREAT BUT I THINK THE HARDEST PART WAS PICKING JUST A FEW FOR THIS PRESENTATION. WE DISCOUNTED WANTED TO GIVE YOU A GLIMPSE. YOU WILL SEE THEM NEXT WEEK DURING THEIR GRADUATION. THE FAMILIES WERE THERE AND THE ROSES WERE GIVEN TO THE VILLAGE. SO, AFTER THEIR NAMES WERE CALLED AND THEY GOT THEIR STOLES, THEY WERE TO GIVE THE ROWS TO WHOEVER HAD BEEN SUPPORTIVE OF THEM AS A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE VILLAGE. SO, IT IS PRETTY EXCITING. >> I KNOW THAT IS A LOT. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE WANTED TO NOTE IS WE HAVE THREE COURSES THAT TRUSTEES HAVE SUPPORTED OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS. RACE AND SOCIAL JUSTICE, ETHNIC STUDIES AND NOW OFTEN AMERICAN STUDIES. THE ENROLLMENT OF STUDENTS DEFINITELY REFLECTIVE, IF NOT OVER WHAT THE DISTRICT ENROLLMENT IS FOR THE PARTICULAR STUDENT GROUP AT ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I WANT TO KNOW AS FAR AS AFRICAN STUDIES, IS THAT SOMETHING THAT WE WILL BE COMING BACK NEXT YEAR WITH A RECOMMENDATION TO FINALIZE FINAL COURSE APPROVAL AS WE IMPLEMENTED AS PART OF OUR GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS? ALSO, APF IN AMERICAN STUDIES, WE ARE WHAT WORKING WITH THE COLLEGE BOARD RIGHT NOW. THIS IS THE SECOND YEAR OF THEIR PILOT, SO THEY ARE ALSO MAKING SOME DETERMINATIONS ABOUT THAT WORKING WITH THEIR SITES TO DETERMINE HOW THAT COULD BE IMPLEMENTED BASED ON WHAT THE COLLEGE BOARD DECIDES TO DO, AS WELL. JUST A FEW MORE SLIDES. THIS IS JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF STUDENT VOICES. THIS IS A [02:35:04] MENTORING PROGRAM THAT WE HAVE HAD FOR 3 YEARS AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL. YOU CAN SEE THE YOUNG LADIES ARE IN A CIRCLE BECAUSE THEY WERE SHARING THEIR VOICE IN TERMS OF HOW THEY CAME IN AT THE BEGINNING OF THE PROGRAM AND HOW THEY WERE FEELING NOW AND JUST GIVING SOME WORDS OF WISDOM. SO, OBVIOUSLY, YOU KNOW, WE OVERSEE PARENT UNIVERSITY. SO, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE HAVE STARTED TO DO WHATEVER WE CAN IS TO HAVE SOME CULTURALLY RELEVANT PARENT UNIVERSITY OFFERINGS. WE'VE BEEN PARTNERING WITH YOU CAN FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS ON THE HBC YOU PARENT UNIVERSITY FOR OUR FAMILIES. WE OFFERED READ ALOUD WITH CRYSTAL PATTERSON ON HER BOOK FAVORS CONVERSATIONS, WE HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR 3 YEARS. WE HAVE INPUT FROM OUR DIVERSITY -- THOSE THAT ARE UNDERREPRESENTED. THAT MAY NOT RETURN THE SURVEY OR WE MAY NOT HEAR FROM BUT CERTAINLY HAVE A VOICE. SO, AGAIN, WE ARE INTENTIONAL ABOUT REACHING OUT TO THESE FAMILIES IN PARTICULAR. THIS FLYER WAS FOR OUR BLACK AFRICAN-AMERICAN FAMILIES THIS YEAR. WE USUALLY NEED TO THEM AT LEAST THREE TIMES DURING THE YEAR. WE BRING ALL OF THE GROUPS TOGETHER TO KICK IT OFF. I BELIEVE THE REST IS YOURS. FROM WHAT I APPRECIATE IT. >> TRUSTEES, LAST YEAR YOU APPROVED A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF MONEY RELATED TO ENSURING THAT WE HAVE BOOKS THAT ARE REFLECTIVE OF OUR STUDENTS. SO, WE HAVE WORKED WITH OUR SERVICES STAFF TO SUPPORT SITES WITH LITERACY NIGHTS. SO, THEY GO THROUGH THESE BOOKS. WE HAVE HAD QUITE ATTENDEES, 873 FAMILIES ATTENDED THE LITERACY NIGHT DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR, WHICH IS REALLY EXCITING AND WE WANT TO CONTINUE ENCOURAGING BAD PARTICIPATION ON A FAMILIAL LEVEL. YOU CAN SEE THE BOOK TITLES THAT WERE PURCHASED. LIKE I SAID, A SIGNIFICANT INVESTMENT FOR OUR STUDENT POPULATION. SO, THANK YOU FOR THAT. OKAY, THERE ARE SOME POSITIVES THAT WE WANT TO SHARE RELATED TO SOME OF OUR DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS. OUR STUDENTS IN OUR ELEMENTARY AND UTTER K-8 SCHOOLS. THEY DID A FALL DIAGNOSTICS ALREADY. I WAS A RUMINATION AKIN TO US THAT WE WERE PURSUING. IT WAS NICE TO HAVE THAT VALIDATION. THAT IS SOMETHING THAT THEY USE. THEN THEY TOOK A WINTER DIAGNOSTIC. TAKING A SPRING DIAGNOSTIC RIGHT NOW. WE ARE ALMOST ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE STUDENTS TAKING THAT THIRD ASSESSMENT SO WE DON'T HAVE ALL OF THAT DATA IN YET. YOU CAN SEE BOTH IN ELA AND MATH, THERE HAVE BEEN GROWTH FOR STUDENTS OVERALL AS WELL AS BLACK AND AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENTS. IN THE DISTANCE WE HAVE LAMENTED THAT, WE ARE LOOKING AT OUR FALL ASSESSMENT TO SPRING ASSESSMENT. THOSE ARE SCORING AT THREE OR FOUR. 3.5 OR HIGHER IS CONSIDERED PROFICIENT. YOU CAN SEE THAT THERE HAS BEEN IMPROVEMENT. WE ALSO WANT TO SHARE THE DATA RELATED TO OUR ATTENDANCE DATA FOR THIS YEAR. WE LOOK A GREAT SPEND WE ALSO LOOK AT OUR DIFFERENT STUDENT GROUPS. YOU CAN SEE THAT FOR OUR BLACK AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENT GROUP THAT IT IS SLIGHTLY HIGHER. AT SOME RATE IT SEEMS A LITTLE BIT MORE NEGATIVELY THAN OTHERS. THAT IS DEFINITELY DATA THAT WE TRY TO EXPLORE AND FIGURE OUT HOW WE SUPPORT WITH ATTENDANCE. WE ALSO LOOK AT OUR CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM RATES. THERE HAVE BEEN IMPROVEMENT IN THE RATES WITH ALL STUDENTS AND BLACK AFRICAN AMERICANS IN BUT SLIGHTLY LESS THAN ALL STUDENTS. OKAY. WE BREEZED THROUGH THAT. WE TRY TO GO QUICKLY. IT IS A LOT TO TALK ABOUT. THERE IS A LOT OF REALLY EXCITING THINGS, LIKE YOU SAID, IF THERE WAS ONE THING TO DO, YOU KNOW, I KNOW ALL OF YOU WOULD JUST DO IT. YOU HAVE INVESTED IN MANY THINGS. YOU ARE REALLY TRYING TO CREATE THESE LAYERS OF THE SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL, ACADEMIC, COMMUNITY. ONE OF THE BIGGEST THINGS IT IS THE SENSE OF COMMUNITY. THEY WANT TO HAVE THOSE MULTICULTURAL NIGHTS. THEY WANT TO LEARN ABOUT OTHER CULTURES TO BE WITH THEIR FRIENDS AND JUST FEEL LIKE THEY KNOW EVERYBODY THAT IS AROUND THEM IN THEIR COMMUNITY. I THOUGHT IT WAS VERY INTERESTING. THEY DEFINITELY WOULD BE MORE EXCITED TO DO THAT. RIGHT NOW, WE ARE GOING TO RECOGNIZE SOME OF OUR PARTNERS. LIKE I MENTIONED, HE WAS NOT ABLE TO COME TONIGHT, BUT I DO NOT WANT TO DISMISS THE ROLE THAT THE MENTORS THAT WE HAVE FROM HUNTER BLACKMAN HAVE HAD FOR US [02:40:04] OVER THE PAST FOUR YEARS IN THE SATURDAY SESSIONS GIVEN UP THE TIME TO WORK WITH OUR STUDENTS AND HELP THEM DEVELOP DIFFERENT SCHOOLS BUT LIKE I SAID, AT THE DROP OF THE HAT, BEING AVAILABLE TO HELP US WHEN WE HAVE A MAJOR CRISIS WHERE WE NEED THAT CONNECTION FOR A LOT OF OUR STUDENTS. SO, JUST WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THEM AND WILL BE GIVING IT TO THEM AT A FUTURE DATE BUT WE WANTED TO SHARE THAT WITH YOU. SO, THANK YOU TO THEM. THEN, DR. HOLLY, HE WAS GOING TO COME AND THEN HE HAD TO ZOOM AND WE DID NOT WANT TO CAUSE STRESS AT THE LAST MINUTE. BUT HE HAS BEEN A PARTNER OF OURS AND CONTINUES TO BE A PARTNER OF OURS IN SO MANY WAYS. HE DOES THAT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN LARGE GROUPS WILL BE A REALLY GETTING INTO THAT IN CLASS COACHING. I CALLED OUT. I TOLD HIM I WOULD BE THE STUDENTS AT NATOMAS HIGH, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT THEY TALKED ABOUT IS SUPPORTING STAFF AND HAVING THIS CONVERSATION THAT MAKE ME FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE. THEY RECOGNIZE THAT SOMETIMES A STAFF MEMBER MAY REALIZE THAT THEY ARE KIND OF TREADING INTO A TERRITORY THAT MAYBE THEY PERSONALLY REALIZE I DON'T HAVE THAT EXPERIENCE AND MAYBE I SHOULD SPEAK TO IT. STUDENTS AS WE WANT TO TALK ABOUT THOSE THINGS THAT WE ARE OKAY TO TALK ABOUT THOSE THINGS. BUT WE WANT OUR TEACHERS TO BE ABLE TO FEEL CONFIDENT TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT. THAT IS WHERE IT GOES TO THE IN CLASS COACHING AND HOW DO YOU HAVE THOSE GOOD CONVERSATIONS AND CREATE THAT THE REFERRAL OF THOSE STUDENTS TO BE REPRESENTED AND THEIR EXPERIENCES TO BE REFLECTED? SOME OF THAT IS SOMETHING THAT WE ARE LOOKING TO CONTINUE TO RENT. I SAID SEVEN, IS THAT RIGHT? SO, DEFINITELY WANT TO RECOGNIZE DR. HOLLY AND HIS TEAM. THEN, VERY EXCITED TO HAVE SOMEBODY FROM CREOSOTE MEDIA HERE. THEY ARE SUPPORTING OUR WORK THROUGH THE BLACK PROGRAM. TYSON AMIR, LIKE I MENTIONED. HE SPENT A LOT OF TIME WITH THEM. I AM REALLY HAPPY TO HAVE VICTOR HERE. WHAT HE HAD TO GO. >> OKAY. SORRY. I WANT TO THANK HIM AND THE TEAM WITH ALL OF THE WORK YOU ARE DOING. WE WILL EXPAND THAT RELATIONSHIP INTO THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR. SAID THAT HE HAD TO LEAVE. ALL RIGHT. MICHAEL. YOU ARE PERSISTENT AND PATIENT. THANK YOU FOR STAYING TONIGHT. YOU KNOW, I HAVE TO SAY THANK YOU. I HAVE KNOWN OF YOU HAS FOR QUITE A WHILE NOW IN THE WAY THAT OVER THE YEARS WE HAVE CONTINUED TO LAYER THE WAYS THAT WE ARE PARTNERED, VERY EARLY ON, OUR TRUSTEES ESTABLISHED EXPECTATIONS FOR HOW WE ESTABLISHES AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL WITH CERTAIN VIOLATIONS AND WE DID THAT BEFORE THAT BECAME A REQUIREMENT SO ORDERING A COMMITMENT LIKE THAT, PARTNERING ON THE 3200 CAMPAIGN. GETTING ALL OF THE YOUNG MEN OF COLOR TO COLLEGE. STARTING ON. TUTORING IN THE FAMILY LIAISONS AND ALL OF THAT. JUST ALL THE WAY THAT WE CONTINUE TO COME BACK TO THE TABLE AND TALK ABOUT HOW WE CAN EXPAND. THANK YOU FOR STAYING IN IT WITH US AND THINK YOU ARE HAVING CONVERSATION IN THIS DISTRICT. TREATMENT I WANT TO INTERJECT REALLY QUICKLY. WHEN I FIRST CAME TO NATOMAS. THEY WERE SOME OF THE FIRST PEOPLE THAT I MET I WAS INTRODUCED TO. I WAS SO IMPRESSED WITH BOTH OF THEM AND WHAT BROUGHT THEM TO PROVIDE THIS PROGRAM IN THE AREA AND JUST THE IMPACT THAT IT HAS HAD AND ALL OF THE POSITIVE THINGS THAT I HAVE HEARD ABOUT IT. I EVEN SHARED, I KNOW THEY ARE DOING SOME EXPANSION DOWN INTO THE CENTRAL VALLEY AND HAVE SHARED WITH PARTNERS THAT I KNOW DOWN THERE WITH WHAT A POSITIVE IMPACT THIS HAS MADE. THANK YOU AND THE OTHER MICHAEL FOR BOTH REACHING OUT AND MAKING THAT CONNECTION WHEN I WAS NEW AND THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DO FOR OUR STUDENTS. >> I PROMISE I WON'T BE LONG WOULD IT BE MY WIFE TELLS ME AS I HAVE GOTTEN OLDER, I TEND TO TALK TOO MUCH. BUT I DO JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU. WE HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH SINCE 2016. OUR FIRST GRADUATING CLASS OF 2019. BUT I APPRECIATE ABOUT NATOMAS UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT, YOU DON'T TRY TO SOLVE THESE PROBLEMS YOURSELF. YOU BELIEVE IN THE VALUE OF COMMUNITY. YOU BELIEVE IN THE VALUE THAT IT TAKES PARENTS, STUDENTS, COMMUNITY. OF COURSE, IT TAKES TEACHERS AND ADMIN ET CETERA. WE ARE THANKFUL TO BE A PART OF THAT VILLAGE . THERE WAS A PICTURE THAT THEY HAD SHOWN WITH THREE YOUNG MEN THAT WERE IN A 1300 CAMPAIGN SHIRT. AUSTIN, DOMINIC AND HER DREAM. THEY ARE ALL PRODUCTS OF [02:45:01] NATOMAS UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT. ALL BROTHERS THAT STARTED WHE WE WERE AT THE NATOMAS GATEWAY AT THE TIME. STARTED AT EIGHT GROUP. THEY ARE NOW SOPHOMORES AT MENTAL STATE. WHAT IS EXCITING ABOUT THIS IS THAT THEY ARE ALSO MENTORS. THEY ARE MENTORING SOME STUDENTS A SACRAMENT ESTATE. ONE OF THEM IS A MENTOR AT ONE OF OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS, I BELIEVE IT IS NATOMAS MIDDLE. SO, THAT IS ALSO CREATING THAT RIPPLE EFFECT WHERE BROTHERS ARE FEELING COMPELLED ENOUGH TO OTHER BROTHERS HAVE SUPPORT, EXPOSURE, ACCOUNTABILITY AND A WHOLE BUNCH OF LOVE. SO WE APPRECIATE BEING ABLE TO BRING OUR LIVED EXPERIENCE AND SHARE THAT WITH THE BROTHERS WITHIN INCREASED SENSE OF BELONGING. I AM GETTING LONG-WINDED. THANK YOU. THANK YOU ANGELA, DEIDRE. THANK YOU DR. CASTILLO AND. THINK YOU WILL YOU. >> OKAY. WE HAVE A FEW PEOPLE FROM YOU CAN. MY HEART WAS SO HAPPY TO SEE MISS BARBARA EVANS. I AM SO HAPPY TO SEE THAT YOU'RE HERE. WE HAVE WORKED TOGETHER ON SO MANY DIFFERENT PROJECTS OVER THE YEARS. I TRAVELED WITH HER WHEN YOU INVESTED TO GO TO THE HBCU TRYING TO RECRUIT OVER A COUPLE OF YEARS. SO, THANK YOU FOR THAT. BUT ANGELES, AS WELL. YOU WANT TO COME UP. AGAIN, PARTNERS THAT HAVE BEEN ALONG THE ROAD FOR MANY YEARS. ALSO, THEY COME BACK WITH MANY IDEAS AND THINGS THAT WE CAN DO DIFFERENTLY. THANK YOU FOR ALL OF THE SUSTAINED WORK THAT YOU DO AND FIGURING OUT NEW AND DIFFERENT WAYS THAT WE CAN CONNECT WITH OUR STUDENTS. WE REALLY APPRECIATE YOU AND VALUE YOU. ANYONE HAS ANYTHING THAT THEY WANT TO SAY. >> SURE. I AM A WOMAN ABOUT A LOT OF WORDS. I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU ALL FOR HAVING US AND REWARDING US. WE HAVE BEEN WITH NATOMAS FOR ABOUT EIGHT YEARS. SO, WE APPRECIATE YOU. I BROUGHT MY TEAM APPEAR BECAUSE THEY ARE THE ONES THAT DO THIS WORK. LAUREN AND DOMINIQUE HAVE SERVED AT DISCOVERY NATOMAS IN OUR COLLEGE PREP PROGRAM. DESIREE IS A FORMER STUDENT WHO ALSO WENT OFF TO AN HBCU, DILLON UNIVERSITY WITH A SCHOLARSHIP THING BASKETBALL. HAS COME BACK. YOU CAN CLAP. SHE IS WORKING WITH YOU CAN . SHE IS THE GYM COORDINATOR AT HIGH SCHOOL. GETTING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY THAT RAISED HER. SO, THANK YOU. THANK YOU SO MUCH. >> APPRECIATION BUT VERY HEARTFELT. THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU . AWARDS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL, AS WELL. WE SAW OUR STUDENTS FACES AND THAT THEY WERE RECOGNIZED BY THE MENTORS. YOU COULD TELL THAT THERE WAS THAT CONNECTION AND SUPPORT. SO, THANK YOU. >> WE ARE GOING TO TALK ABOUT NEW AND PLANNED ACTIONS AND SUPPORT BECAUSE WE ARE NOT DONE YET. >> WE ARE ALMOST THERE. AGAIN, WE HAVE COMMITTED TO SEE COI. THIS DISTRICT IS LOOKING AT OUR PRACTICES IN THE DATA AND MAKING DECISIONS ABOUT HOW WE MOVE FORWARD. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I HAD MENTIONED IN THE PRIOR PRESENTATION, REALLY, VERY EXCITED THAT MAURICE WAS READY FOR THE NEXT CHALLENGE. WOULD BE POSTED THIS TO HIM HE WAS VERY EXCITED TO TAKE THIS ON. I AM THANKFUL FOR THAT. YOU WILL SEE THE VARIETY OF THINGS THAT ARE GOING TO HAPPEN AS IT RELATES TO WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT WITH THIS. THERE IS A SMALL PORTION FUNDING WISE OF HIS POSITION THAT IS GOING TO BE COMMITTED TO HIM PROVIDING THAT DISTRICT MONITORING AND OVERSIGHT FOR THE ACTIONS THAT WE ARE BLACK AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENT SUCCESS INITIATIVE. WE DON'T HAVE A CATCHY PHRASE OR ACRONYM AT THIS POINT. BUT, ROBIN SAID THIS TO ME AND HE RESONATED. HE TALKED ABOUT WAS SOMEBODY IN HER DISTRICT. SOMEBODY THAT IS GOING TO WAKE UP EVERYDAY WITH US ON THEIR MIND. SOMEBODY THAT IS GOING TO STAY FOCUSED ON IT AND OTHER PEOPLE, LIKE I SAID, WE DON'T HAVE A DEPARTMENT OF 12 PEOPLE BUT THERE ARE PEOPLE ACROSS DEPARTMENTS, WE HEARD ANOTHER ONE TONIGHT THAT IS COMMITTED TO BODIES OF WORK THAT ARE FOCUSED IN THIS AREA. SO, HE IS GOING TO HELP MAKE SURE THAT ALL OF THOSE ARE COMING TOGETHER AND THAT WE ARE BEING RESPONSIVE. SO, VERY THANKFUL TO MAURICE FOR BEING A PART OF THAT. WE HAVE SOME ADDITIONAL PLANNED ACTIONS. WE WILL BE ENGAGING IN A RESEARCH PROJECT WITH WEST AT AROUND EQUITABLE DISCIPLINE PRACTICES. VERY THANKFUL THAT THEY REACH OUT TO US AND WANTED TO PARTNER WITH US. WE HAVE DEVELOPED A PARTNERSHIP WITH THEM OVER THE LAST YEAR EXTENDING THE BLACK PROGRAM AND ADDING THE HIGH SCHOOL. TALK ABOUT SOME TRAINING MODULES, ONE OF THE THINGS WHERE WE GOT FEEDBACK FROM OUR KIDS , WHEN I WAS AT [02:50:06] THE BLACK PROGRAM AT NATOMAS HIKER TYSON AND I STARTED TALKING ABOUT CREATING TRAINING MODULES FOR OUR NEW TEACHERS FOR ORIENTATION AND SOME STRATEGIES AND WAYS TO ENGAGE EFFECTIVELY IN MEANINGFUL CONVERSATIONS. AND, VERY EXCITED TO CONTINUE EXPANDING WITH THEM AND THE WAYS THAT WE TALKED ABOUT. WE HAVE PARTNERSHIP FOR PD WITH THE STATE AND COUNTY. YOU CAN SEE THE GRADE LEVELS NOTED. WE ARE ALSO IN COMMUNICATION WITH CHILDREN AND LEARNING MORE ABOUT THEIR FREEDOM SCHOOLS MODEL AND HOW IT CAN BE IMPLEMENTED HERE. DEFINITELY LOOKING AT ACADEMIC LENS AROUND SOME INCREASED LITERACY AND MATH SUPPORTS, SOME DISTRICTWIDE INVESTMENTS. SPECIFICALLY, SOME OF THE ITEMS WERE ALREADY APPROVED THROUGH THE EQUITY MULTIPLIER, WE ARE ASKING FOR SOME INVESTMENTS FOR THESE ELEMENTS LISTED ON THIS SLIDE. AS A PART OF THE ACTION TONIGHT. WE THOUGHT THAT WE ARE AT THE END OF THE PRESENTATION. ANY QUESTIONS? >> NO QUESTIONS. AMAZING, THE WORK THAT EVERYBODY IS DOING. SO, THANK YOU. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO MAKE A SUGGESTION, THEM TO THE FRONT SO THEY CAN ALL STAY AND PARTICIPATE. TONIGHT IS A LITTLE BIT LONGER. WE THANK YOU FOR HANGING IN THERE. THANK YOU. >> NOEL MORA? >> I KNOW WE HAVE HAD A PRETTY LONG MEETING. I JUST HAD SOME GENERAL THOUGHTS ABOUT ALL OF THE PROGRAMS AND SOME OF THE NEW ROLES THAT WE ARE GOING TO BE ABLE TO FUND THROUGH IT, ESPECIALLY THE EQUITY MULTIPLIER FUND. THE ONE THING THAT I DID NOT GET TO SAY EARLIER DURING THAT AGENDA ITEM, PART OF WHY I THINK I AM SO EAGER THAT WE HAVE ADI ADMINISTRATOR IS TO LOOK AT THE CROSS CONNECTION BETWEEN DIFFERENT POPULATIONS OF STUDENTS THAT WE HAVE WHO WE NEED TO INVEST MORE IN AS PART OF OUR FOCUSED ON EDUCATIONAL EQUITY. SOMETHING THAT WE REFER TO AS THE INTERSECTION. I MEAN, IT DOESN'T GET A LOT OF AIRTIME BUT WE KNOW IT IS THERE. RIGHT? WE KNOW WE HAVE STUDENTS OF ANY RACE OR ETHNICITY THAT ALSO LGBT OR MIGHT BE FOSTER STUDENTS OR MIGHT BE REFUGEES. RIGHT? SO, MIGHT BE EXPERIENCING. SO, I THINK DEPOSITION IS SUCH AN OPPORTUNITY FOR SOMEONE TO WAKE UP AND THINK OF EACH OF THESE STUDENT GROUPS THAT WE ARE INVESTING MORE IN MY LIKE OUR BLACK AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENTS. ALSO, WHAT I JUST SAID, THE INTERSECTION OF VALLEY WITH ALL OF THE DIFFERENT FACTORS THAT THEY MAY BE FACING TOO. SO, I JUST WANTED TO GIVE THAT MASSIVE, MASSIVE OPPORTUNITY FOR THAT POSITION OF WHAT THEY CAN ADD A LITTLE BIT OF WHAT I THINK IS A HIGHLIGHT. ALSO, I HAVE A COUPLE OF THOUGHTS RELATED TO THE FIRST OF ALL, THIS IS JUST A LOT OF WORK AND IF WE NAMED EVERYONE WHO IS PART OF THIS WORK, I THINK WE WOULD HAVE AN ENTIRE 15 PAGE PRESENTATION BY ITSELF. RIGHT? SO, A HUGE APPRECIATION TO EVERYONE IN OUR DISTRICT INCLUDING TEACHERS AND EVERYONE WHO IS MAKING THAT HAPPEN. I THINK THAT THERE IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO PACKAGE ALL OF THIS. ARE YOU TOUCHED ON THAT A LITTLE BIT EARLIER. SO, IT CAN BE MORE CONSUMABLE FOR MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY AND EVEN FOR US, RIGHT? WE ARE OUT AND ABOUT AT SCHOOL SITES AND COMMUNITY EVENTS SHARING ALL OF THIS INFORMATION. IF WE WERE TO SHARE ALL OF THIS, RIGHT? THERE IS THAT CHANCE TO LOOK AT MOVING FORWARD, HOW CAN WE MAKE THIS SOMETHING THAT IS VERY PACKAGE WILL TOO. I DON'T COME FROM A CAN INDICATIONS OR MARKETING BACKGROUND, BUT I AM THINKING -- >> WE KNOW SOMEBODY. >> IT IS A HIT. IT WOULD BE A POSITIVE BENEFIT TO US. I MEAN THAT IT IS A POSITIVE THING FOR US TO TAP INTO THAT LENS. ALSO, I SPEAK LITERALLY AND HEAR THINGS LITERALLY. SO, I AM SAYING THIS IN A VERY LITERAL WAY. ONE LAST THING THAT CAME TO MIND WITH THE MENTION OF OUR [02:55:03] DISTRICT BEING IN COMMUNICATIONS WITH THE CHILDREN'S DEFENSE FUND FOR FREEDOM SCHOOLS, WHICH REALLY IS FOR SCHOOL DISTRICTS THAT HAVE AN ABSENCE OF PROGRAMS THAT ADDRESS BLACK STUDENT SUCCESS. BUT, I THINK IT IS GOOD THAT WE ARE IN COMMUNICATION WITH THIS GOVERNMENT ENTITY OR THIS ENTITY. I WILL USE I STATEMENTS. BUT I AM SURE A LOT OF MY COLLEAGUES ON THE BOARD WOULD AGREE I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT THAT IT IS CRITICAL THAT WE AMORTIZE NEW RECRUITMENT AND SUPPORTING STAFF OF COLOR TO BE AT THE FOREFRONT OF THOSE OFFERINGS AND HAVING SOMETHING LIKE THAT IMPLEMENTED, I THINK THAT IS A CULTURAL REPRESENTATION IMPLEMENT ME OR FROM THE COMMUNITY THAT I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH. I ALSO WANT TO BRING THAT TO THE FOREFRONT. I KNOW IT WAS ONLY A PART OF A MUCH LARGER PLAN MUCH LARGER LIST OF THINGS THAT WE CAN DO MOVING FORWARD. THAT IS A BROADER FOCUS THAT WE CAN REALLY APPLY TO ANY OF THESE THINGS THAT IS THE CULTURAL REPRESENTATION. JUST SOME THINGS THAT I WANTED TO MAKE SURE TO VOCALIZE DURING THIS AGENDA ITEM AND AT THIS MEETING. NO, WE WANT TO APPROACH THE -- ALL OF THIS WITH THE SAME THOUGHTFULNESS THAT WE HAVE HEARD IN THE FEEDBACK SESSIONS THAT WE HAVE BEEN ENGAGED IN EITHER INDIVIDUALLY OR DURING OUR MEETINGS. I THINK IT IS FINDING THAT COMMON GROUND OF THE MATTER OF FACT THAT OUR BLACK AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENT LITERACY SCORES ARE TOO LOW. HOW DO WE KEEP EXPANDING THE PROGRAMS THAT WE ALREADY HAVE. IT IS ENCOURAGING, RIGHT? WE HAVE ALL OF THESE THINGS. I WILL STOP THERE. BUT I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT. IF NOT NOW, THEN WHEN? THANK YOU FOR -- I WILL GO BACK TO THE INITIAL COMMENT THAT I MADE, WHICH WAS JUST A HUGE THANK YOU. THANK YOU FOR WAITING FOR OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS THROUGH THE MEETING. OKAY. I'M GOING TO STOP THERE. TRINITY WE HAVE APPROVAL? THANK YOU. THIS IS NOT AN EASY ENDEAVOR TO PUT SOMETHING LIKE THIS TOGETHER. IT IS EXTREMELY COMPREHENSIVE. IT IS MESSY AND A SENSE THAT EVERYTHING THAT COMES TOGETHER VERY EASY. I THINK IT SPEAKS TO THE DIFFERENT NEEDS RELIANCE ON IT WILL NOT SERVE OUR STUDENTS WELL IN THE DISTRICT. VERY CREATIVE AT LOOKING AT THE STRENGTHS OF WHERE DO WE WANT TO GO, WOULD WE WANT TO DO THIS? HOW DO WE GET THERE? THANK YOU. THANK YOU, EVERYBODY WHO PLAYED A PART IN PUTTING THIS TOGETHER AND TO OUR PARTNERS OUT THERE YOU CAN GO HOME OR YOU CAN STAY WITH US. THIS IS NOT LIKE SCHOOL. WE ARE ALMOST DONE. IT IS UP TO YOU.
