THANK YOU. >> THANK YOU. TRUSTEE, SUPERINTENDENT, WE ARE EXCITED TO HAVE OUR PRINCIPLES HERE. THIS IS ON THE THAT YOU REALLY HAVE COME TO ENJOY OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS. THIS YEAR IS DEFINITELY AN EVOLUTION OF WHAT WE HAVE DONE IN THE PAST, SO IT WILL BE A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT AND HOPEFULLY WE WILL BE ABLE TO HELP YOU NAVIGATE THROUGH THIS WELL . SO, JUST A FEW THINGS TO HELP US GET STARTED . WE HAVE FIVE DIFFERENT TABLES AS YOU CAN SEE THAT ARE SET UP AND THERE WILL BE EITHER THREE OR FOUR PRINCIPLES REPRESENTED EACH OF THOSE TABLES. TRUSTEES THROUGH THIS PROCESS, YOU WILL BE ROTATING WHEN WE TALK ABOUT SWITCHING. YOU WILL BE ROTATING THROUGH EACH OF THE TABLES. THE REASON WE ARE DOING THAT, WE HAVE PRINCIPLES THAT ARE SET UP TO TALK ABOUT SPECIFIC GOALS. EACH OF OUR FIVE DISTRICT GOALS WILL BE REPRESENTED AND CITED PRINCIPLES ARE REALLY TALKING ABOUT ACTIONS THAT THEY ARE TAKING AT THEIR LEVEL THAT REFLECT THE EMPHASIS ON OUR DISTRICT GOALS. SO, HERE -- IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER, YOU WILL HEAR THEM TALK PRETTY SPECIFICALLY, MAYBE ABOUT TWO AREAS THAT ALIGN TO GOAL ONE, YOU ARE AT THE GOAL ONE TABLE. THIS IS CERTAINLY NOT EVERYTHING THAT THEY DO AT THEIR SITES. BUT FOR THE PURPOSE OF TONIGHT, WE WANTED TO NARROW THE SCOPE OF THE CONVERSATION AND ALLOW YOU TO SEE HOW SITE ACTIONS ARE CONNECTED TO OUR DISTRICT GOALS. PLEASE UNDERSTAND, THEY ARE ONLY TALKING ABOUT A COUPLE OF THINGS BUT WILL TALK MORE DEEPLY ABOUT THAT . WE WILL KEEP THEM MOVING BECAUSE WE COULD STAY HERE ALL NIGHT AND TALKED FOR SEVERAL HOURS. I'M HOLDING THIS BECAUSE AS OUR PRINCIPALS ARE TALKING, WE ARE GOING TO HELP THEM -- LET'S SEE IF I CAN DO THIS. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME. KNOW? I DON'T KNOW. THEY WILL DO BETTER THAN ME. YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO HIT IT, THEY TOLD ME. YES. IS A LITTLE TOO AGGRESSIVE. OKAY. SO, ANYWAY, EACH OF THE PRINCIPLES REALLY HAS 45 MINUTES TO TALK ABOUT SEGMENT . YOU WILL HEAR SOMETHING LIKE THAT BUT NOT EXACTLY THAT. [00:05:06] NOT FOR YOU, THAT IS JUST -- IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A MORE SUBTLE REMINDER FOR THEM. HEY, YOU SHOULD BE WRAPPING UP. OUR GOAL IS THAT EACH OF THE THREE SYMBOLS WILL SPEAK. THEIR PIECE, AND THEN AT THE END, THERE IS 5 TO 8 MINUTES TO ASK QUESTIONS. SOMETIMES MAYBE WE DON'T WAIT FOR THE QUESTIONS AND THAT IS PERFECTLY FINE AS WELL. BUT WE WILL MOVE THROUGH EACH SESSION AND IT IS 20 MINUTES PER SESSION. VERY APPRECIATIVE YOU TOOK THE TIME TO HAVE A SPECIAL BOARD MEETING TONIGHT SO WE COULD DEDICATE THIS MOMENT TO SOMETHING THAT I KNOW IS VERYIMPORTANT TO ALL OF YOU AND TO OUR PRINCIPLES. OKAY, I'M GOING TO HAVE PEOPLE START COMING AND GETTING SET AT THEIR TABLES, TRUSTEES. YOU ARE GOING TO BE STARTING UP HERE AT THIS TABLE. MICAH, IF YOU WANT TO COME RIGHT HERE. TINO, IF YOU WANT TO COME HERE. ERIKA , IF YOU WANT TO START RIGHT THERE. AND THEN -- SCOTT, IF YOU WANT TO GO TO THE BACK. ALL RIGHT. AS WE GET EVERYBODY SITUATED WE WILL GIVE OURSELVES 30 SECONDS AND THEN START OUR CLOCK. OVERLAPPING SPEAKERS ] [00:12:41] [00:30:32] >> [00:40:22] >> [00:44:28] >> [00:54:04] >> [01:02:53] >> [01:08:54] >> [01:20:43] >> [01:29:31] >> [01:37:47] >> [01:44:09] >> [01:53:32] >> [02:02:59] >> [02:10:22] >> OKAY, GOOD I TRY TO GET OUR TRUSTEES BACK UP TO THEIR [02:10:28] SEATS, PLEASE. [02:11:17] ALL RIGHT. BEFORE WE LET OUR PRINCIPLES GO [02:11:22] FOR THE EVENING, ANY PARTING COMMENTS, OBSERVATIONS, [02:11:27] ANYTHING YOU WANT TO SHARE WITH OUR PRINCIPLES BEFORE WE WRAP [02:11:29] UP ? >> THIS IS A FANTASTIC [02:11:32] WORKSHOP AND AT EACH TABLE I THINK I TOLD EVERYONE, WE CALL [02:11:38] FOR A SPECIAL BECAUSE WE WANT TO BE ENGAGED ON THIS. [02:11:41] THANK YOU. YOU ALL TAKE A LOT OF HEAT AND [02:11:42] TREMENDOUS PRESSURE FOR SOLVING WHAT IS A STATEWIDE AND [02:11:47] NATIONAL PROBLEM. THAT'S NOT LOST ON US. [02:11:50] WE ARE VERY PLEASED AND THANKFUL FOR YOUR EFFORTS AND CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION. YOU ARE MAKING A TREMENDOUS DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF STUDENTS. I WANT TO AFFIRM THAT. IT'S REALLY COOL SEEING DIFFERENT APPROACHES TABLE TO TABLE AND SHOUT OUT, EXTRA SPECIAL SHOUT OUT TO THOSE INCORPORATED IN ATHLETICS. I LOVE IT. YOU ALL ARE LEADERS IN THE COMMUNITY AND ON YOUR CAMPUSES. PARENTS REALLY LOOK TO ALL FOR GUIDANCE. I JUST WANT TO SAY THANKS. I'M VERY IMPRESSED. I LOVE THE ENERGY WE HAVE. I THINK IT'S GREAT ENERGY AND I THINK WE ARE ONTO SOMETHING SPECIAL THIS YEAR. WE MAY NOT SEE EVERY SINGLE RESULT WE WANT TO SEE IN THE MEDIA BUT I'M PRETTY SURE WE ARE ON SOME PRETTY STABLE GROUND. THANK YOU. >> TRUSTEE HARDIN. >> THANK YOU. YOU GUYS ARE DOING A TREMENDOUS JOB. I THINK MICAH SAID IT SO WELL. YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING. OUR FUTURE IS BRIGHT. I'M EXCITED. THANK YOU. >> IN ADDITION TO THE DITTO, IT WAS REALLY NICE TO SEE A LOT OF YOU AGAIN FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A COUPLE OF YEARS AND TO GET TO KNOW THE NEW FOLKS. IT IS NICE TO SEE THE HOMEGROWN TALENT MOVING UP IN THE DISTRICT AND TO SEE THAT EVOLUTION, WHICH IS REALLY NICE. I WANT TO BUILD ON MICAH'S COMMENTS ON MY APPRECIATION. SOMEONE WHO HASN'T WORKED IN A PUBLIC SCHOOL BUT HAS WORKED IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR, I THINK THE TOUGHEST JOB ON THE PLANET IS THE FIRST LINE SUPERVISOR. PRINCIPLES ARE THE FIRST-LINE SUPERVISORS AND YOUR DIRECT REPORTS ARE EVERY STUDENT, EVERY PARENT AND EVERY TEACHER. IT IS A LOT AND I THINK THERE IS A COLLECTIVE RECOGNITION OF THE FOLKS APPEAR. WE RECOGNIZE THAT AND WE WILL STILL HOLD YOU ACCOUNTABLE BUT WE KNOW THE EFFORT YOU ARE PUTTING IN AND IT SHOWS SO, THANK YOU. >> I NEED TO TAG ALONG AND ALSO SAY THANK YOU, THANK YOU FOR CARING. IT'S REALLY EVIDENT WITH HOW MUCH IS BEING DONE. I WOULD SAY IT'S NEVER ENOUGH TIME, BUT WITH EVERYBODY'S STOMACH RUMBLING AND INCLUDING MINE, I THINK IT IS MORE SO THAT THERE IS SO MUCH BEING DONE THAT IT FEELS LIKE WE COULD JUST KEEP DISCUSSING ALL OF THE STRATEGIES THAT ARE HAPPENING FOR A LONG TIME. BUT, GENERALLY, THANK YOU FOR CARING. >> IT WAS REALLY NICE MEETING ALL OF YOU TONIGHT. I WISH ALL OF YOU COULD HAVE BEEN MY PRINCIPAL AT SOME POINT. I COULD SPEND ALL DAY TALKING WITH ALL OF YOU. I JUST WANTED TO GIVE A SPECIAL SHOUT OUT TO THE PELT ACRE FOR ALL OF HIS BEST EFFORTS. LIKE I SAID, THANK YOU ALL. >> SO, I THINK SOME OF THE THINGS THAT CAME ACROSS AS I WAS LISTENING TO ALL OF YOU IS -- AND IT MAKES ME FEEL GOOD [02:15:02] BECAUSE I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO HAVE SOME CONSISTENCY AND THERE IS CONSISTENCY, THE USE OF PROGRAMS. AND ALSO, THIS CONSTANT REFLECTION ABOUT HOW TO MAKE IT A BETTER AND USING THE DATA, WHICH WE TALK ABOUT, BUT IT IS EVIDENT THAT YOU USE IT IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO KNOW WHAT THE NEXT STEPS ARE. WE ALWAYS HEAR PEOPLE SAY I'M GOING TO USE THE DATA AND WE WILL IMPROVE. BUT WHEN THOSE OF YOU WHO SHARED DATA AND TALKED ABOUT IMPROVEMENT ON THIS, YOU HAD VERY SPECIFIC WAYS IN WHICH YOU HAD GIVEN THOUGHT TO BRINGING ABOUT THAT CHANGE. AND SO, IT WASN'T LIKE YOU JUST SHOWED UP AND SAID, WE ARE GOING TO IMPROVE BY 1% OR 2%. YOU HAD A PLAN, AND THE PLAN MAY NOT NECESSARILY COME TOGETHER ORAJEL THIS YEAR, BUT IT WAS A PLAN THAT WAS AND LAMENTED. FOR THAT, I'M VERY EXCITED. THE SECOND THING WAS, THERE IS SUCH A PASSION FOR THE KIDS WHO ARE STRUGGLING. THAT HAS BEEN ONE OF OUR MAJOR FOCUSES IN THIS DISTRICT OVER THE YEARS. HOW DO WE MOVE THOSE STUDENTS SO THAT THEY ARE MOVING IN A DIRECTION IN WHICH WE KNOW THAT THEY ARE MAKING PROGRESS AND THEY ARE JUST NOT MOVING FOR A TEMPORARY PERIOD OF TIME. THERE IS ACTUALLY, THERE IS ACTUALLY HARD DATA, EVIDENCE WHETHER IT BE THE CLASSROOM , PARENT INPUT, OR WHETHER IT BE THE PRINCIPAL AND PUT. THERE IS THAT DATA OR THAT EVIDENCE TO SHOW THAT THEY ARE IMPROVING, BUT WE STILL HAVE A LONG WAYS TO GO. IT WAS INTERESTING TO START WITH ELEMENTARY AND MOVE AROUND TO SECONDARY. AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL, I ALWAYS GET A LITTLE NERVOUS BECAUSE ALL OF YOU TRY SO HARD WITH SO MANY KIDS ON YOUR CAMPUSES, BUT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL COULD SAY THEY HAVE SO MANY KIDS ON THEIR CAMPUSES, RIGHT? SOME OF THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL KIDS CAN SAY IT BUT I ALWAYS SAY, THE SECONDARY SCHOOL IS THE LAST ACT BEFORE THEY ARE OUT OF OUR HANDS. SO TO SPEAK. SO, I AM HOPEFUL, AS ERIC HAS SAID, WHAT WE ARE BUILDING A FOUNDATION AT THE ELEMENTARY IS JUST GOING TO PERMEATE ALL THE WAY UP, BUT IN THE GROUP I WAS IN, THERE WERE SOME REALLY CRITICAL QUESTIONS THAT CAUSED ME TO PAUSE. I WILL GIVE THOSE QUESTIONS SOME THOUGHT, NOT THAT I'M THE ONE WHO HAS TO COME UP WITH THE ANSWERS. BUT, THERE IS THIS THOUGHT, AND THERE ARE SOME QUESTIONS THAT REALLY NEED TO BE ADDRESSED ABOUT, HOW DO WE MOVE THE STUDENTS FOR COLLEGE AND CAREER , FOR THE WORKFORCE WHEN THERE IS -- WHEN THEY DON'T ALWAYS HAVE ALL THE RESOURCES? WHEN THEY MAY NOT HAVE ALL THE SUPPORTS. THAT'S WHAT KEEPS ME AWAKE. HOW DO WE ADDRESS THE NEEDS OF THE KIDS WHO DON'T ALWAYS HAVE THAT ABUNDANCE OF SUPPORT AND RESOURCES? I JUST WANT TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMITMENT TO OUR DISTRICT , FOR THE TIME YOU SPENT, YOU AND YOUR TEACHERS AND OTHER STAFF MEMBERS. YOU -- ALL OF YOU , YOU KEEP US EXCITED ABOUT WHAT WE DO AND YOU GIVE US HOPE THAT WE CAN PROGRESS. IT'S REALLY AN HONOR TO WORK WITH ALL OF YOU. THANK YOU. >> JUST TO ECHO WHAT WAS SAID THIS EVENING, I REALLY APRECIATE ALL THE PRINCIPALS , YOUR TIME AND EFFORT AND DEDICATION. BEING ABLE TO SHARE A SNAPSHOT, THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS THAT YOU ARE DOING AT YOUR SCHOOL SITES, EACH ONE OF YOU PROBABLY COULD HAVE SPOKEN FOR THE ENTIRE TIME. BUT JUST SHOWING THAT SNAPSHOT , AND THE WAY THAT WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS ALIGNED WITH OUR DISTRICT GOALS AND THAT THERE IS COHERENCE AND FOCUS AND WE ARE LOOKING AT DATA. JUST SHOWING THAT INTENTIONALITY THAT YOU HAVE AT YOUR SCHOOL SITES, AND SOME OF THE BEST CONVERSATIONS I HEARD WAS YOU TALKING ABOUT GETTING IDEAS FROM EACH OTHER AND HOW MUCH YOU HAVE LEARNED FROM EACH OTHER AS PART OF THAT PRINCIPLE PLC, WHICH IS SO KEY AND SO IMPORTANT. KUDOS TO ALL OF YOU AND THANK YOU FOR OUR TEAM AT THE ED CENTER WHO HAS HELPED SUPPORT THIS EVENING AND WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE TRUSTEES HAD THE [02:20:04] OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE SOME PERSONAL CONVERSATIONS AND HERE ARE SOME HIGHLIGHTS AND ASKED SOME GOOD QUESTIONS. WE APPRECIATE DOING THE WORKSHOP FORMAT TONIGHT. I THINK IT GAVE US AN OPPORTUNITY, AND THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR THEIR HARD WORK. KEEP IT UP. WERE GETTING TOWARDS THE FINISH LINE. IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE IT IS ALREADY MARCH. BUT A LOT OF GOOD WORK HAPPENING AND JUST THANK YOU VERY MUCH. >> IF I CAN SAY, I THINK I CAN SAFELY SPEAK FOR ALL OF THE LEADERS IN HERE, HOPEFULLY YOU HEARD A NUMBER OF THINGS THAT WERE MENTIONED AT EACH OF THE TABLES THAT WERE A DIRECT RESULT OF YOUR APPROVAL OF INVESTMENT AND RESOURCES. I JUST WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE TO YOU THAT YOU HAVE REALLY TAKEN A STAND FOR US AND THIS IS A PART OF OUR ACCOUNTABILITY BACK TO YOU TO TALK ABOUT HOW WE ARE STEWARDING THOSE RESOURCES. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND INVESTMENT. >> I * This transcript was compiled from uncorrected Closed Captioning.
