CORRECTION. SO USED TO SAYING FIVE HERE.

OKAY. MOVING ON TO COMMUNICATIONS.

AT THIS TIME I DON'T SEE CSEA, IS THERE A REPRESENTATIVE THIS EVENING FOR CSEA THAT WISHES TO ADDRESS THE BOARD? MONTH. CSEA ALSO ACKNOWLEDGES OCTOBER 19TH AS IT PROFESSIONALS DAY.

CSEA WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE BOARD AND DISTRIBUTE PERSONNEL FOR LISTENING TO ALL CONCERNS BROUGHT FORWARD FROM THE INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANTS. WE CONTINUE TO WORK DILIGENTLY THROUGH THIS. THE DISTRICT AND C SEA HAS MUTUALLY AGREED TO REVIEW THE JOB POSITIONS.

SECRETARY 2, SECRETARY 3. MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST 2, MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST THREE AND CARPENTER.

BASED ON THE CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE'S FEED BACK.

CSEA HAS REQUESTED THAT A PD CATALOG BE SEPARATED.

WE FEEL THAT IT WOULD BE EASIER, LESS CONFUSING AND PROBABLY HAVE MORE PARTICIPATION IN CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES HAD THEIR OWN PD CATALOG. CSEA WOULD LIKE TO ADDRESS THE

[00:05:01]

IMPORTANCE OF SOCIAL EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL HEALTH FOR ALL CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES AS DIRECTORS AND SUPERVISORS IS IMPORTANT TO BE AWARE THAT MANY CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES HAVE ISSUES. WE ALL HAVE SOMETHING GOING ON IN OUR LIVES AT THIS TIME AND PLACE.

SO AS SUPERVISORS WE JUST NEED TO BE AWARE.

AT THE SAME TIME, THERE ARE CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES WHO WALK INTO THEIR WORK ENVIRONMENT AND ARE BYPASSING, COMING IN COMMUNICATION WITH THEIR SUPERVISORS AND SUPERVISOR DOESN'T TAKE THE TIME TO SAY, GOOD MORNING, HELLO, HI.

JUST A SIMPLE HELLO, HI WOULD GO A LONG WAY FOR THE CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES. LET'S PLEASE ARE MINDFUL.

C SEA CONTINUES TO WORK WITH THE ADMINISTRATORS THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT AND WILL CONTINUE TO WORK AT THE LOWEST LEVEL.

[X.b. Natomas Teachers Association (NTA)]

THANK YOU. REPRESENTATIVE FROM NTA.

ALL RIGHT. GOOD EVENING BOARD MEMBERS AND SUPERINTENDENT CASTILLO. I WANT TO RECOGNIZE FILIPINO AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH. THANK YOU.

THE SOUND IS REALLY AMAZING TONIGHT.

GIVING YOU A CONCERT. SO ALSO I ALSO WANT TO RECOGNIZE ONE THING THAT I HAVE DONE AT A MEETING BEFORE AND NTA INCLUDES A LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT ALL THE BEGINNING OF ALL MEETINGS.

WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE DISTRICT ADOPT THAT.

WE ARE THE LAND OF THE NEASON PEOPLE AND PAY TRIBUTE TO THAT.

IN THE LAST MONTH, I HAVE CONTINUED TO VISIT SCHOOL SITES AND SIT DOWN AND TALK TO THE EDUCATORS ABOUT THE CONCERNS.

THESE ARE THE SAME CONCERNS I ALL SHARE WITH THE DISTRICT AS THEY MEET. THEY HAVE HEARD A LOT OF THIS AS WELL. I CONTINUE TO BE THE VOICE OF TEACHERS IN MORALE. EVERY SITE IS DISCUSSING ADDED WORK THAT PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION BRINGS.

IB, AP AND AVID ARE ALL VALUABLE BUT THEY HAVE STARTED TO ENCROACH ON OTHER PROTECTED TIME TEACHERS HAVE AND CREATED INCONSISTENT WORK FROM SITE TO SITE.

FROM OUR PERSPECTIVE WE'RE INTERESTED IN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO BUILD THIS INTO A TEACHER DAY.

WHEN A TEACHER HAD ONE PREP DAY AND IT'S GIVEN TO I B IMPLEMENTATION, IT RESULTS IN MORE WORK LOAD.

IT'S ADDED WORK LOAD AND IT'S EXHAUSTING.

I KNOW DR. CASTILLO, YOU GOT TO BE AT A SITE WHERE THEY WERE DOING QUITE A FEW CLASS SPLITS AND SEE HOW THAT IMPACTS ALL GRADE LEVELS. I KNOW WE HAVE AMAZING EDUCATORS IN THE DISTRICT THAT CAN HANDLE EXTRA STUDENTS BUT IMPACTS EVERYONE WHEN WE HAVE TO SPLIT UP THE STUDENTS.

I KNOW THE TIME TAKEN IS REIMBURSED AT THE DAILY RATE OF THE SCHOOL BUT NOT BALANCED WITH PER DIEM.

THE DISTRICT IS LOOKING AT THE POSSIBILITY OF RAISING THE SUB RATE TO ALLEVIATE SOME OF THIS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF NTA, WE DEFINITELY SUPPORT THAT. AND TWO OF MY SITE VISITS, I SAT DOWN WITH LONG-TERM SUBSTITUTES LOOKING AT LEAVING DISTRICT BECAUSE OF THE PAY. SAME JOB DIFFERENT WAY.

WE SAID NUMEROUS TIME THAT IS IF SOMETHING IS A PRIORITY FOR THE DISTRICT, WE WANT TO SEE THE DISTRICT IS WILLING TO MAKE SPACE IN THE WORKDAY FOR THOSE THING TO TAKE PLACE.

YEAH, YOU KNOW, I WANT YOU TO UNDERSTAND.

WE HAVE NO ISSUES WITH THE PROGRAMS IN THEORY.

IT'S JUST IN PRACTICE THEY ARE PUSHING THEM INTO TIME NEEDED TO SUPPORT OTHER INITIATIVES AND CAN'T DO THE WORK TO FIDELITY AND DO THE PROGRAMS LIKE THEY ARE MEANT TO BE INSTITUTED.

THAT'S A PROGRAM FOR US, ESPECIALLY TO DO THE WORK WE WANT TO DO IN A MEANINGFUL WAY. THERE'S OTHER CONCERNS THAT WE HAD RECENTLY. I HAVE BEEN TO SITES WHERE PEOPLE ARE REALLY CONCERNED WITH STAFF MORALE AND SAFETY.

AND WHEN I ASK WHAT THEY TALK ABOUT IN THE STAFF MEETINGS, MANY RESPOND THEY FOCUS ON DATA ANALYSIS OR THINGS LIKE THAT.

YOU KNOW WE DO HAVE VERY CLEAR LANGUAGE IN OUR CONTRACT ABOUT WHAT TAKES PLACE AT A STAFF MEETING.

I REALLY WANT TO REMIND US ALL. I STARTED THIS YEAR REALLY HOPEFUL OF HOW THOSE STAFF MEETING WOULD BE USED.

RICK MASTER AND I SPOKE ABOUT USING MORE STAFF TIME TO SPEAK ABOUT SAFETY ISSUES ON CAMPUS. I THINK WE REALLY NEED TO START

[00:10:03]

THINKING ABOUT THAT. YOU CAN'T HAVE MULTIPLE INCIDENTS ON A CAMPUS AND THEN JUST IGNORE THAT THE STAFF IS DESPERATE TO TALK ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED AND REVISIT THE THINGS AND TALK ABOUT WHAT WE CAN DO DIFFERENTLY NEXT TIME.

WHEN I'M TALKING TO TEACHERS, AND I ASK THEM, LIKE HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU DEVOTE TO SAFETY AND SCHOOL SITE ISSUES THEY WILL SAY MAYBE 10 MINUTES. WHEN THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT IT.

THEY'RE SAYING OUR PRINCIPAL TOLD US WHAT HAPPENED FOR 10 MINUTES. THERE'S NOT TIME FOR DISCUSSION OR TEACHER INPUT AND NOT TIME FOR QUESTIONS.

AND SO WHAT I THINK IS ACTUALLY KIND OF WHAT MY, WHAT JOHN SAID, IT'S ACTUALLY VERY SIMILAR. WE NEED TO TAKE TIME WITH OUR ADMINISTRATORS TO LISTEN TO THE NEEDS OF TEACHERS.

SOME OF THESE INCIDENTS CAN BE VERY TRAUMATIC AND WITHOUT BEING GIVEN THE TIME TO PROCESS THOSE FOR TEACHERS, THEY GET SWEPT UNDER THE RUG. MAKES US FEEL LIKE WE'RE NOT VALUABLE IN THE SITUATIONS AND OUR INPUT AND CONCERNS ARE NOT GOING TO BE VALIDATED. WE NEED TO DEBRIEF THE SITUATIONS SO WE CAN ALSO PROCESS OUR TRAUMA.

BECAUSE THAT'S, YOU KNOW THAT'S PART OF WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU HAVE MULTIPLE INCIDENTS ON A SITE IN ONE DAY AND HAVE TO COME TO SCHOOL THE NEXT DAY AND THERE'S POLICE IN THE HALLWAYS, WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT THOSE THINGS.

WE CAN'T GO ON AS NOTHING HAPPENED.

TOTALLY CHANGED TOPIC. JUST WE WERE ABLE TO INTRODUCE OUR NEWLY HIRED SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR.

TOM, DENESHA AND ANA I TALKED ABOUT THE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS WITH THE JEFFERSON TEACHERS AND IT WAS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC.

ALL OF THESE CHALLENGES I MENTIONED BEFORE AND SO MANY CHALLENGES THAT WE DON'T EVEN KNOW WE HAVE YET ARE GOING TO BE ADDRESSED BY THIS COMMUNITY SCHOOL'S MODEL.

IT IS A REAL STATISTICALLY PROVEN DRIVER OF EQUITY AND BUILDS COMMUNITY FOR EVERYBODY ON A CAMPUS.

SO, I ALSO HAD THE GREAT EXPERIENCE OF BEING AT BANNON CREEK AND MEETING OUR SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST MARIANA HER ERA.

SHE HAS ALL THIS EXPERIENCE SPECIAL SO MUCH TO SHARE ABOUT WHAT SHE'S DONE. AND ON THAT NOTE, I WANTED TO YOU KNOW FINISH WITH REALLY GREAT STUFF.

I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THE WORK WE'RE COLLABORATING WITH THE DISTRICT AT THIS POINT ON THIS PROJECT.

AND IT'S BEEN INCREDIBLY POSITIVE.

SO THANK YOU. YOU GUYS HAVE A GOOD NIGHT.

[X.c. Student Board Member]

>> MOVING ON TO VICE GRANT.

>> I'M SORRY. I'M SORRY.

STUDENT BOARD MEMBER. VALENTINO GOMEZ.

[X.d. Board Members]

[00:21:44]

>> I ECHO WHAT TRUSTEE GRANT SAID AND THAT TAKES CARE OF MY

[00:21:52]

REPORT. OUR HEART GOES OUT TO THOSE IMPACTING BY THE CONFLICT IN ISRAEL.

WE KNOW THAT IS FAR REACHING IN OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY.

IN MOMENTS LIKE THIS, IT IS ESSENTIAL TO OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY TO MAINTAIN ITS COMMITMENTS OF FOSTERING A SAFE AND SUPPORTIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL STUDENTS.

NATOMAS SCHOOLS WILL NOT TOLERATE HATE SPEECH OR TARGETING OF ANY STUDENT BECAUSE OF THEIR NATIONAL, ETHNIC OR RELIGIOUS IDENTITY. AT THE SAME TIME WE UNDERSTAND THIS CONFLICT IS BRINGING FORWARD COMPLEX QUESTIONS AND EMOTIONS INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF OUR CLASSROOM.

PARENTS CAREGIVERS AND EDUCATORS ARE FACED IN THE CHALLENGE OF EXPLAINING VIOLENCE AND WAR TO CHILDREN.

ALTHOUGH DIFFICULT THESE CONVERSATIONS ARE EXTREMELY IMPORTANT IN THE CONTEXT OF HUMAN HISTORY, HELP US WORK TOWARDS THIS PEACE. WE ENCOURAGE ALL PARENTS IF YOU KNOW ABOUT IT, COME FORWARD. DON'T WAIT UNTIL STUFF HAPPENS.

IF THE STUDENTS, STAFF COME FORWARD, IT TAKES A VILLAGE AND WE ARE ALL THE VILLAGE. AS TRUSTEE GRANT SAYS, WE ARE ALL HERE TO SUPPORT. RICK MERCER GOES OUT OF HIS WAY WITH THE WAY THINGS ARE DONE. I SAW THE INTERNET FEED.

I THOUGHT THERE WAS GOING TO BE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE AND NEXT WEEK, TWO WEEKS FROM NOW, A MONTH FROM NOW, IT WILL BE EMPTY. WE ARE HERE ALL OF US ARE HERE.

I CAN SAY THIS. I BELIEVE TRUSTEE GRANT AND I WILL GLADLY MEET WITH PASTOR TREY AND ANY OF THE COMMUNITY TO WORK WITH YOU GUYS AS MUCH AS WE CAN.

BUT IT TAKES A VILLAGE AND IT DOES START AT HOME.

THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS GOING ON IN THE WORLD.

WE HAVE TO ALL COME TOGETHER AND FIND THE SUPPORT.

THANK YOU. >> OH, MY GOSH.

GO NIGHT HAWKS. WE HAD AN AMAZIN HOME COMING GAME. WE ROCKED IT.

COMMUNITY COME OUT AND SUPPORT. I KNOW TEACHER, YOU GUYS ARE TIRED. COME OUT AND SUPPORT IN THE BEGINNING AND HIGH FIVE, ANY OF OUR GAME AND TEAMS, THE STUDENTS WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU OUT THERE. THERE'S SO MUCH MORE I'M FORGETTING. THE COMMUNITY, I HEARD ABOUT COMMUNITY SCHOOLS AND WHAT IS GOING ON AT JEFFERSON.

I WOULD PERSONALLY LOVE TO SEE THAT BE ON THE AGENDA AND SEE IF WE CAN HAVE A PRESENTATION OF THAT.

I DON'T THINK IT WOULD TAKE TOO LONG.

MORE PEOPLE NEED TO UNDERSTAND WHAT COMMUNITY SCHOOLS ARE ALL ABOUT BECAUSE I'M A HUGE FAN SO THANK YOU.

I TOTALLY WENT OFF SCRIPT. THANK YOU.

>> TRYING TO KEEP MY, I THINK MY MIC IS ON NOW.

SO YOU KNOW ONE OF THE THINGS I AM HOPING FROM THIS COMMUNITY AND YOU KNOW WE ARE SADDENED BY THE THINGS THAT HAPPENED IN THE SCHOOLS. HOWEVER SMALL THEY ARE.

HOWEVER BIG THEY ARE, WE ARE SADDENED AND WE KNOW THE AMOUNT OF TIME HAS BEEN ALREADY ALLUDED TO THAT WE SPEND.

[00:25:03]

BUT WHAT MAKES ME MORE SAD AND WHAT I SAW ON THE MEDIA FEEDS WERE PEOPLE SORT OF WEAPONIZING WHAT HAPPENED FOR THEIR OWN AGENDAS. AND YOU KNOW, CREATING MORE RUMORS ABOUT THINGS THAT DID NOT HAPPEN IN THIS DISTRICT.

IT'S AS IF THE COMMUNICATION THAT WENT OUT TO THE FAMILIES, THE COMMUNICATION THAT WENT OUT TO THE TRUSTEES AND OUR STAKEHOLDERS, IT WAS AS IF ALL OF THAT WAS JUST IGNORED AND LET'S FIND A WAY TO YOU KNOW SENSATIONALIZE WHAT HAPPENS TO KIDS AND TO FAMILIES. THAT'S WHERE I THINK IT'S SAD.

SO PARENTS, WE HAVE TALKED ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA.

WE HAVE ASKED PARENTS TO PLEASE MONITOR THE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA AND IT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE AS MUCH AS WITH THE KIDS AS IN THIS CASE A LOT MORE WITH THE ADULTS THAT SEEM TO RESPOND.

I HOPE THE PUBLIC UNDERSTANDS THAT WE TAKE THESE THINGS VERY SERIOUSLY, ANY TIME THERE'S ANY HARM TO ANYBODY, BUT AT THE SAME TIME, WE ASK THAT YOU GET THE FACTS BEFORE YOU CREATE MORE FEAR OR MORE CHAOS IN OUR COMMUNITY.

BECAUSE THEN THAT'S REALLY DIFFICULT FOR US TO GO BACK AND THY TO UNDO. AND YOU KNOW, BEADS DOWN TO YOUNGER KIDS. THAT'S AN ASK OF MINE.

I KNOW I WILL PROBABLY GET THROUGH THIS.

I JUST WANTED TO SAY YOU KNOW, I SPENT MY TWO FULL DAYS LAST WEEK WORKING WITH THE COMMISSION ON TEACHER CREDENTIALING.

WHERE I SERVE AS A COMMISSIONER. I JUST WANTED TO SHARE THAT WE'RE STILL DEBATING THE IDEA OF ASSESSMENTS FOR TEACHERS IN ORDER TO GET INTO THE PROFESSION.

SO FOR SOME OF YOU. THIS IS GOING TO RESONATE.

C BAS. CSAT.

ALL OF THESE EXAMS AND SO WE WORKED REALLY HARD I THINK AS COMMISSIONERS TO TRY TO MAKE SURE, I'M REALLY PROUD AT LEAST IN THE LAST THREE YEARS FOR SOME OF THOSE EXAMS TO BE PART OF COURSE WORK AS YOUR UNDERGRADUATE OR PART OF IF YOUR CREDENTIAL PROGRAM. THERE IS, BECAUSE WHEN WE TALK ABOUT THE SHORTAGE OF TEACHERS, WHEN WE TALK ABOUT THE SHORTAGE OF TEACHERS OF COLORS, THAT HAS NOT CHANGED SINCE I WAS IN THE PROGRAM. THE STATISTIC HAVE REMAINED THE SAME. I USED TO BE ABLE TO GO FIVE, SEVEN, 10, 75% AND THOSE STILL ARE VERY MUCH THE SAME NUMBERS.

BUT I THINK YOU KNOW, I THINK ONE OF THE THINGS WE HAVE TO BEEN IS THE FACT THAT UNTIL WE CAN GET THE EARS OF PEOPLE IN OUR LEGISLATURE THAT THE EARS OF PEOPLE IN OUR COMMISSION TO REALLY HEAR THE VOICES OF PEOPLE WHO WANT TO GO INTO TEACHING AND THE HOOPS THEY HAVE TO JUMP IN ORDER TO GO DOWN THAT PATH WAY.

SO, I AGAIN WE HAD THE DEBATE. I SHARED MY FRUSTRATION WITH THE FACT THAT WHY ARE WE LOOKING AT A NEW TEST, OR REVISING TESTS WHEN WE'RE TRYING TO IN MY OPINION, WE SHOULD BE EXITING, ELIMINATING THE TESTS WE HAVE IN PLACE.

SO, YOU KNOW, THE TEACHERS SHORTAGE AGAIN IT'S NATIONWIDE.

DIFFERENT APPROACHES IN DIFFERENT DISTRICTS.

YOU KNOW YOU CAN MAKE OVER A HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR EVERYBODY IN LA UNIFIED BUT THEN YOU TRY TO FIND A PLACE TO LIVE, SAME THING YOU KNOW IN THE SILICON VALLEY.

THERE'S ALWAYS THESE CHALLENGES BUT I AM HOPING THAT AS WE MOVE ON AND EXPAND AND GROW IN THIS DSTRICT, THAT WE WILL HOPE THAT YOU WILL ENCOURAGE PEOPLE YOU KNOW TO GO INTO THE PROFESSION BECAUSE IT'S A PROFESSION THAT HAS SO MANY REWARDS.

MORE REWARDS I THINK YOU KNOW SOMETIMES IT FEELS LIKE THERE'S MORE CHALLENGES THAN REWARDS, BUT I REALLY DO HOPE THAT YOU KNOW, AS WE TRY TO MAKE YOU KNOW EVERY EFFORT ON OUR PART TO GET PEOPLE INTO PATHWAYS, THAT WE CAN ALSO ASK FOR YOUR HELP.

THAT'S ANOTHER AREA I THINK THAT IT'S JUST REALLY MERITS OUR ATTENTION AND WHO KNOWS, THERE CULD BE ONE OF YOU IN THE AUDIENCE THAT WOULD MAKE AN ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS SUBSTITUTE.

I'M LIKING AT PASTOR. SO, GREAT SUB.

[X.e. Superintendent's Report]

AND WOULD WELCOME INTO TEACHING. SO THAT CONCLUDES MY REPORT.

I'M GOING TO TURN OVER TO OUR SUPERINTENDENT

>> THANK YOU. GOOD EVENING.

[00:30:01]

OUR STUDENT AND STAFF SAFETY IS A TOP PRIORITY FOR US, AND I KNOW OUR STAFF IS WORKING DILIGENTLY TO MAKE SURE OUR SYSTEMS ARE IN PLACE TO KEEP PEOPLE PROTECTED AND WE ARE ALWAYS WORKING AT GETTING BETTER.

I APPRECIATE THOSE WHO ARE WILLING TO PARTNER WITH US IN MAINTAINING OUR SAFETY. SINCE OUR LAST BOARD MEETING, I GOT TO GO OUT AND VISIT THE SPECIAL EDUCATION CLASSROOMS AND JOEY'S FOOD LOCKER AT NATOMAS HIGH.

THAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF MY DAY TO GO OUT AND SEE THE COLLABORATION AMONGST THE STAFF AND STUDENTS.

WE'RE GETTING READY TO GO TO A FIELD TRIP AND STUDENTS GETTING FOOD READY IN THE LOCKER. IT WAS INSPIRING THE WORK GOING ON THERE. I ATTENDED THE SACRAMENTO COUNTY ASSOCIATION DINNER WITH TRUSTEES MORA AND HARDEN.

WE HEARD A GUEST SPEAKER, DR. TRACY WHITE WHEATON WHO TALKED ABOUT THE IMPORTANT OF LITERACY IN OUR SCHOOLS.

I GOT TO VISIT TWO RIVERS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND THEY WERE SO MANY GREAT AVID STRATEGIES GOING ON.

I WAS ENJOYING GOING FROM CLASSROOM TO CLASSROOM SEEING THE ACTIVITIES. ONE CLASS WE WALKED IN IN THE TEACHERS AND KIDS WERE SINGING COUNTING BY SKIP FOUR.

ANOTHER ROOM THEY WERE WATCHING CNN FOR STUDENTS.

THEY WERE CAPTIVATED AND HAVING IN DEPTH CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THE TOPICS THEY WERE WATCHING. WENT TO HOME COMING AT INDERKUM HIGH SCHOOL. THEY HAD A RALLY FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND I THOUGHT I WOULD STOP BY AND LOOK AT WHAT THE RALLY LOOKS LIKE. THEY ASKED ME TO BE IN THE RALLY. AND SO, I GOT TO PARTICIPATE IN A RALLY GAME WITH THE KIDS. SO THAT WAS A LOT OF FUN AND THEN GOING TO THE SEE THE HOME COMING SKITS THAT NIGHT AND A GREAT WIN FOR THE TIGERS. FIREWORKS, SO IT WAS EXCITING.

OCTOBER 9TH-13 HAS BEEN THE WEEK OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR.

I'M SO APPRECIATIVE OF THE ADMINISTRATORS THAT WORK IN OUR DISTRICT AND THE CARE THEY GIVE TO OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF.

THEY WERE PRESENTED WITH A NICE CARE PACKAGE WHICH IS WONDERFUL.

I GOT TO GO TO ALLEN HEIGHT IN NATOMAS HIGH SCHOOL.

I SAW LOTS OF EVIDENCE OF INFORMATIONAL WRITING.

I SAW GREAT EL STRATEGIES IN OUR ELD CLASSROOM AND NATOMAS MIDDLE AND GOT TO HEAR THE BAND REHEARSE.

THE KIDS WERE DOING A GREAT JOB AND LAST FRIDAY WAS HOME COMING AT NATOMAS HIGH SCHOOL. THAT WAS FUN.

TEENO DID NOT MENTION BUT HE WAS PART OF THE HOME COMING COURT.

IT WAS EXCITING TO SEE HIM OUT THERE.

THEY HAD GREAT SCARY MOVIE FLOATS THAT WE GOT TO SEE, AND AGAIN IT WAS A GREAT WIN FOR THE NIGHT HAWKS.

SO THAT WAS A FUN EVENING. I DID WANT TO SHARE THAT WE ARE CREATING A DEI WEBSITE. DIVERSITY EQUITY AND INCLUSION WEBSITE WHERE WE ARE GOING TO FEATURE SOME OF THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND SUPPORTS FOR OUR STUDENTS IN OUR LOWEST PERFORMING SUB GROUPS. SO WE'RE EXCITED FOR THAT TO COME. IT'S ONE OF OUR FIRST INTENTIONAL AND FOCUSED INTERVENTIONS.

WILL HAPPEN THIS WINTER DURING INTERCESSION WHERE STUDENTS WHO ARE IDENTIFIED AS BEING PART OF OUR LOWER PERFORMING SUB GROUPS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN READING INTERVENTIONS THAT FOCUSES ON USING CULTURALLY AND RESPONSIVE LINGUISTICALLY RESPONSIBLE TEXTS AND PROVIDE TARGETED LITERACY AND INSTRUCTION. WE'RE VERY EXCITED TO ROLL THAT OUT AND PILOT THINGS IN THE SPRING AND SUMMER PROGRAMS. WE APPRECIATE THAT SOME OF WORKING WITH NATOMAS BLACK PARENTS UNITED, THEY INVITED US TO HEAR ABOUT A PROGRAM THAT FRESNO UNIFIED IS DOING AND OUR STAFF IS INVESTIGATING HIGH QUALITY RESEARCH-BASED PROGRAMS THAT WILL BEST BENEFIT OUR STUDENTS IN NATOMAS. I APPRECIATE THE STAFF PUTTING THOSE EFFORTS FORWARD. WE KNOW IT'S A PRIORITY FOR THE LOWEST PERFORMING SUB GROUPS TO HAVE INCREASED ACHIEVEMENT.

WE ARE REALLY FOCUSING IN ON WHAT THAT CAN LOOK LIKE.

THAT IS MY REPORT FOR THE EVENING.

[XI.a. Filipino American History Month]

THANK YOU. >> THANK YOU.

WELL GOOD EVENING PRESIDENT TEHEREDIA STAFF AND COMMUNITY.

I AM HONORED TO ANNOUNCE THE THE FILIPINO AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH

[00:35:03]

AND CELEBRATING THE HONOR AND, CULTURE, TRADITIONS AND HISTORY AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF FILIPINO AMERICANS THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES. DURING THIS TIME, WE ARE ENCOURAGING ALL OF OUR SCHOOLS TO HOST AND PROMOTE ACTIVITIES THAT EDUCATE OUR STUDENT, STAFF, FAMILIES AND COMMUNITY ABOUT THE FILIPINO CULTURE. ONE WAY THAT WE ARE CELEBRATING AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL IS THROUGH LITERACY.

IN ADDITION TO CULTURAL BOOKS BEING INFUSED AND AVAILABLE AT OUR SCHOOL LIBRARIES, WE'RE PROVIDING 10 COPIES OF THE BOOK "FAMILLIA OR FAMILY" IN ENGLISH TO THE FIRST 10 STUDENTS WHO DRAW A PICTURE OF THEIR FAMILY. WE HAPPENED TO HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH THE AUTHOR WHO IS A SACRAMENTO AREA FORMER NATOMAS NATIVE. LORI NAKAMORA.

THE BOOK IS ILLUSTRATED BY HER SISTER, THERE SHE IS.

ILLUSTRATED BY HER SISTER, LEA A. AN INDERKUM HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE. IT TELLS A BOY ABOUT THE FAMILY'S SCHOOL AND SOCIAL LIFE IN A FILIPINO AMERICAN HOUSEHOLD. WE ALSO HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO INTERVIEW HER IN A POD CAST WHERE SHE DISCUSSES THE IMPORTANCE THE FAMILY AND READS A FEW EXCERPTS FROM HER BOOK.

YOU CAN LISTEN TO THE ENTIRE PODCAST.

YOU CAN ACCESS THAT ON OUR WEBSITE OR ON ALL MAJOR PODCAST PLATFORMS. I'M A LITTLE CHALLENGED HERE.

OKAY. SO, WE ARE ALSO CONTINUING OUR FEAST AND LEARN SERIES. WE KNOW THAT THERE ARE TWO THINGS THAT BRINGS CULTURES TOGETHER.

FOOD IS A TOP ONE AS WELL AS MUSIC.

SO WE'RE GOING TO PRESENT TO YOU WHAT WE'RE DOING FOR OUR FEAST AND LEARNS SERIES AT THE NATOMAS UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT TABLE FOR FILIPINO AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH AND WE'RE GOING TO SHOW YOU JUST A SMALL SNIPPET OF THE POPULAR DISH PONCET.

SO I'M GOING TO SHOW YOU THIS VIDEO.

AND YOU WILL SEE. HI.

I'M VINCE COG NET. I'M A STUDENT AT DISCOVERY HIGH.

TODAY WE'RE WORKING IN CELEBRATION OF FILIPINO AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH AND WE ALSO WANT TO PROMOTE LITERARY AND SHARE THIS BOOK. IT'S A CHILDREN'S BOOK ABOUT COOKING CONET. IN THE 16TH CENTURY, CHINESE TRADERS INTRODUCED NOODLES TO THE FILIPINO.

THIS HAS BEEN A CORE MEMORY AS A KID.

I DON'T KNOW LIFE WITHOUT IT. EVER SINCE I WAS BORN I REMEMBER SEEING PONCET AND EVERY BIRTHDAY AND FAMILY GATHERING.

>> OH, WHOA. I COOKED RAMEN.

YEAH, I MADE RAMEN AT CULINARY AT DHS.

WHY DO YOU SQUEEZE? LIKE THAT, RIGHT?

>> YEAH. IT WAS REALLY NICE COOKING WITH MY GUY CHEF VINCE HERE. HE'S REALLY A NICE GUY TO COOK

WITH. >> DANTE IS A NATURAL AT THIS.

TASTES GREAT. WE HOPE YOU COOK THIS DISH AS WE CELEBRATE FILIPINO AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH.

>> THAT IS DELICIOUS. GOOD JOB DANTE.

>> THE FLAVORS ARE MELTING. >> WELL.

THANKS CHEF. >> THANK YOU, MAN.

GOOD JOB. LET ME WASH MY HAND SO I CAN

GIVE YOU A >> ALL RIGHT.

[APPLAUSE] YES.

SO WE ENJOY THOSE AND ENJOY PARTNERING WITH OUR STUDENTS IN THE CULINARY ARTS PATHWAY. SO YOU CAN ACTUALLY WATCH THE EXTENDED VERSION WHICH IS STEP BY STEP ON OUR NATOMAS UNIFIED YOUTUBE CHANNEL. WE KNOW THERE ARE MANY, MANY OTHER EVENTS AROUND THE DISTRICT CELEBRATING FILIPINO AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH. WE COULD NOT HIGHLIGHT THEM ALL TONIGHT. WE WANTED TO CAPTURE SOME OF THEM TO SHARE WITH YOU WHAT WE'RE DOING AND WITH THAT, I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THIS TIME AND ONCE AGAIN, JUST THANK YOU

[00:40:02]

FOR TAKING THIS MOMENT TO CELEBRATE FILIPINO AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH. THANK YOU.

[XI.b. Inderkum’s Boys Tennis State Academic Champions Award]

ALL RIGHT. SO THE NEXT AGENDA ITEM IS THE INDERKUM BOYS TENNIS STATE ACADEMIC CHAMPION AWARD.

SO THIS EVENING WE ARE PROUD TO INTRODUCE AND RECOGNIZE OUR 2022-2023 CALIFORNIA INTERSCHOLASTIC FEDERATION ACADEMIC CHAMPIONS. THE INDERKUM HIGH SCHOOL BOYS TENNIS TEAM AND CHIEF ACADEMIC OFFICER, ANGELA HERRERA WILL INTRODUCE THEM. THEY HAVE BEEN WAITING PATIENTLY IN THE GREEN ROOM. THEY ARE READY TO GET TO THE

MAINSTAGE. >> I GOT TO SPEND TIME WITH THEM. I TELL YOU WHAT, YOU ARE IN A NICE FIVE TO 10 MINUTES. I CAN'T HELP WHEN WE GET TO SEE THINGS THAT INVOLVE OUR STUDENTS.

I SMILE EVERY TIME. I THINK YOU WILL BE SMILING FOR A LITTLE BIT HERE. IF YOU DON'T MIND LIFTING THIS.

I WILL TELL YOU WHAT WILL HAPPEN.

YOU WILL GET AN OPPORTUNITY TO MEET THE TENNIS TEAM.

WE WILL HAVE THEM COME UP AND TAKE TEAM PICTURES.

WITHOUT FURTHER ADIEU. IT'S SAFE TO SAY I CAN SPEAK ON BEHALF OF THE TRUSTEES AND OUR SUPERINTENDENT THAT YOU ARE VERY PROUD TO RECOGNIZE THE INDERKUM HIGH SCHOOL BOYS, THEY WERE RECOGNIZEDA THE INTERSCHOLASTIC, ACADEMIC CHAMPIONS, BASICALLY THE SMARTEST TENNIS TEAM IN OUR SECTION.

THEY THEN WENT ON TO EARN THAT RECOGNITION IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA. SO, I JUST WANT TO BE CLEAR ABOUT A COUPLE THINGS AND MAKE SURE THE DOOR IS OPENING.

I THINK THEY'RE COMING FROM HERE.

I WANT TO MAKE SURE THEY CAN HEAR ME.

SO I GOT SCHOOLED A LITTLE BIT EARLIER.

THEY'RE CUMULATIVE GPA WAS 3.96 GPA.

THAT IS NOTHING TO BE CRITICAL OF.

HOWEVER IT WAS CLARIFIED FOR ME. THAT'S THE UNWEIGHTED GPA.

IF YOU WEIGHT THE GPA, THEY ACTUALLY HAVA ABOUT A 4.5 GPA.

SO, THIS IS A PHENOMENAL GROUP OF STUDENTS.

I THINK AGAIN, I FEEL COMFORTABLE STATING THAT YOU AS A DISTRICT AND TRUSTEES ARE COMMITTED TO STUDENT ATHLETES AND VALUE THE LEARNING AND ACHIEVEMENT THAT COMES FROM BEING ENGAGED IN ATHLETICS AND HOW IT HELPS CREATE THAT ENVIRONMENT THAT STUDENTS FEEL CONNECTED TO AND HELPS THEM IN THE CLASSROOM. NOW, I WILL BE HONEST.

I WAS A COLLEGE ATHLETE. SOME OF YOU KNOW THAT.

I WENT BACK IN AND SAID, SO OKAY, YOU ARE SMART.

WE KNOW THAT, WE ESTABLISHED THAT.

WERE YOU ANY GOOD? AND I GOT A LITTLE BIT OF LIKE A MIX OF LIKE PRIDE AND DISGUST AT THE SAME TIME.

AND THEY SAID YEAH, FOR LIKE THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS.

LAST YEAR WE WERE THE LEAGUE CHAMPIONS.

I SAID OKAY. AND THEY MADE IT TO THE SECOND ROUND OF SECTION PLAYOFFS FOR DIVISION ONE.

THAT WAS REITERATED TO ME BECAUSE THEY PLAYED UP A DIVISION. NOT ONLY DO THEY PUT IT IN IN THE CLASSROOM, WHERE IT REALLY MATTERS, BUT THEY ALSO PUT IT ON THE TENNIS COURTS. AT THIS TIME, TRUSTEES AND SUPERINTENDENT CASTILLO, I'LL GOING TO ASK YOU TO STAND IN FRONT OF THE DAIS AND INTRODUCE SCOTT PITS.

JUSTIN REBER AND SUSAN IF YOU CAN COME UP WITH ME PLEASE.

YEAH. ALL RIGHT.

GENTLEMEN, YOU'RE ALL, YOU GOT WHAT IT TAKES.

SO, AFTER I INTRODUCE YOUR COACH, HERE'S WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN. THEY'RE GOING TO INTRODUCE THEMSELVES. THEY'RE GOING TO TELL YOU THEIR NAME. WHAT GRADE THEY'RE IN.

THEY'RE GOING TO TELL YOU WHERE THEY WANT TO GO TO COLLEGE AND THEY'RE GOING TO TELL YOU WHAT THEY WANT TO MAJOR IN.

SO, I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT YOU HEAR FROM THESE GUYS.

FULL DISCLOSURE. THIS IS NOT THE ENTIRE TEAM.

WE HAD STUDENTS GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL AND WENT ON TO COLLEGE. SO THESE ARE THE STUDENTS THAT ARE LEFT AND SOME OF THEM CAME FROM PRACTICE TO BE HERE.

WE DID FEED THEM A GOOD DINNER BEFOREHAND.

I AM VERY HAPPY FIRST OF ALL TO INTRODUCE YOU TO COACH EMILIO MARTINEZ. COACH MARTINEZ WAS A LONG TIME

[00:45:05]

TEACHER IN NATOMAS WHO TAUGHT SPANISH AND WAS ONE THE FIRST TEACHERS I MADE AND CONTINUED TO CONNECT PEOPLE IN NATOMAS.

WHY DON'T YOU COME OUT OUT, COACH MARTINEZ.

[APPLAUSE] >> THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR HONORING THIS SPECTACULAR AMAZING INCREDIBLE BOYS.

AND JUST -- >> GO AHEAD AND SHAKE HANDS.

EVERYBODY WANTS TO SHAKE YOUR HAND.

>> ALL RIGHT. GENTLEMEN.

THIS IS YOUR MIC. IT IS READY FOR YOU.

[XIII.a. Academic Program Enrollment (AR 0100) and Context Slides]

ALL RIGHT. NOW MOVING ON TO ACTION.

EXCUSE ME, ITEM 13 A, THE ACADEMIC PROGRAM ENROLLMENT.

THIS IS OUR AR0100. AND CONTEXT SLIDES.

I BELIEVE. I'M GOING TO TURN THIS OVER TO

ANGELA HERRERA. >> THANK YOU.

PRESIDENT HEREDIA. WE HAVE A BOARD REPORT.

THIS IS SOMETHING WE DO ANNUALLY AS A PART OF ADMINISTRATION 0100 AS WE TALK ABOUT SIGNIFICANT PROGRAMS IN THE DISTRICT AND LOOK THROUGH THE LENS THROUGH OUR DEMOGRAPHICS.

JUST A COUPLE THINGS. WE'RE NOT GOING TO TALK ABOUT NUMBERS HERE. THERE'S QUITE A FEW TABLES AND WE WANT TO TALK ABOUT OUR VISION AND HOW THE PROGRAMS ALLOW STUDENTS TO MAKE DECISIONS ABOUT COLLEGE AND CAREER AS THEY LEAVE THEM GROUNDED IN OUR CORE VALUES AND AS WE LOOK AT THE ACHIEVEMENT FOR EACH STUDENT. AND WHERE THEY CAN FIND CONNECTION TO THEIR SCHOOLS. THOSE ARE VERY IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF WHY WE OFFER THE ACADEMIC PROGRAMS WE DO.

WE'RE JUST GOING TO KIND OF PUT A REMINDER, THIS IS REALLY FOR THE COMMUNITY TO SEE SOME OF THE COURSES THAT WE OFFER THROUGH EACH OF THE PROGRAMS. MOST SIGNIFICANTLY, WE'RE TALKING ABOUT ADVANCED PLACEMENT.

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE. CTE PATHWAYS AND AVID.

THERE'S THREE SLIDES. THE FIRST TIME I LOOKED AT THIS WHEN I SAW ONLY ONE SLIDE WITH AP COURSES ON IT, I THOUGHT WE OFFER A FEW MORE. JUST BEAR WITH ME.

THESE ARE THE SCHOOLS THEY ARE OFFERED AT.

DEPENDING ON JUST THE FOCUS AT EACH OF THE SITES, NATOMAS HIGH SCHOOL IS AN AP CAP STONE SCHOOL.

THE CLASSES THEY OFFER THERE MAY LOOK DIFFERENT THAN WHAT ARE AT INDERKUM OR LEE ROY GREEN ACADEMY.

NOT EVERY COURSE IS OFFERED THE YOU CAN SEE QUITE A FEW - OFFERINGS AT EACH SCHOOL. AND THEN ALSO KEEPING IN MIND AT INDERKUM, NOT ONLY DO THEY HAVE AP COURSES, THEY ALSO OFFER THEIR IB COURSES. SO THEN WE TALK ABOUT OUR INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE COURSES.

THESE ARE THE 11TH AND 12TH GRADE COURSES THAT ARE SCHOLARS TAKE AT INDERKUM HIGH SCHOOL AND THIS IS WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING TO

[00:55:01]

EARN THEIR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA WITH THE IB CERTIFICATE ATTACHED TO IT AS THEY COMPLETE THE COURSES AND TAKE THE RELEVANT EXAMS. AND THEN CEQA.

CALIFORNIA EARLY COLLEGE ACADEMY.

THIS IS HOUSED AT INDERKUM AND THE AIM IS THEY ARE LOOKING FOR THE STUDENTS CONSIDERED IN THE ACADEMIC MIDDLE.

THEY ARE NOT LOOKING FOR THOSE THAT ARE AT THE TOP END.

THEY ARE LOOKING FOR THOSE THAT WANT TO BE STRETCHED AND GROW AND LEARN THE SKILLS THAT IT TAKES TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN A COLLEGE ENVIRONMENT. SO WE ACTUALLY FOCUS ON AND PRIORITY STUDENTS. YOU CAN SEE THAT.

ONE MAJOR ELEMENT IS LOOKING FOR STUDENTS THAT WOULD BE THE FIRST GENERATION COLLEGE GRADUATE IN THEIR FAMILY.

WE DO LOOK AT SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS AND THEN THOSE THAT MIGHT BE UNDER REPRESENTED IN HIGHER EDUCATION.

SO WE'RE TARGETING A CERTAIN GPA RANGE AND AS A COMPANION TO STUDENTS THAT ARE IN SECA. THEY ARE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN AVID CURRICULUM, A REALLY GREAT SUPPORT AS THEY LEARN THEIR EDUCATIONAL SKILLS. THE WAY OF THINKING THAT ALLOWS THEM TO BE MORE SUCCESSFUL IN A COLLEGE ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT.

SO THIS IS A TYPICAL PATHWAY THAT SECA STUDENTS ARE TAKING.

ONE OF THE BENEFITS OF THE CAMP SUSWE HAVE OUR ARC NATOMAS CAMPUS THAT ALLOWS OUR STUDENTS TO ACTUALLY TAKE A PORTION OF THEIR SCHOOL DAY IN ARC COURSES RATHER THA IN THE HIGH SCHOOL CLASSES. AND SO YOU CAN SEE THE BOLD ITALI CS IS DUAL ENROLLMENT THAT COUNTS TOWARD HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION AS WELL. SOMETHING THAT'S PRETTY PHENOMENAL. IF YOU RECALL, WE WERE AWARDED A GOLDEN BELL FOR ALL THEPATHWAYS WE OFFER.

THIS IS ONLY HALF OF THE PATHWAY THAT IS WE OFFER AND THE TYPES OF COURSES THAT STUDENTS ARE TAKING AND WHERE THOSE ARE OFFERED. SO, WE NOTED CT IS A LITTLE DIFFERENT BECAUSE TEACHERS OF CTE COURSES DON'T NECESSARILY ENTER INTO TEACHING FROM A CREDENTIAL PROGRAM.

THEY ACTUALLY ARE COMING TO US MANY TIMES FROM INDUSTRY.

SO WE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE NICE TO NOTE THAT SOME OF THESE INSTRUCTORS ARE THOSE THAT CAME DIRECTLY FROM THE INDUSTRY AND BRING THAT WEALTH OF EXPERIENCE TO THE CLASSROOMS. ONE THING I WANT TO NOTE THAT'S VERY EXCITING IS COSMOTOLOGY WAS A RECENTLY APPROVED CTE PATHWAY. YES.

AND WE'RE NOT DONE YET. SO ONE OF THE THINGS IF YOU WILL RECALL WHEN YOU APPROVED US PURSUING THIS PATHWAY AND BUILDING THE FACILITIES FOR IT IS WE ACTUALLY ARE LOOKING NEXT YEAR AT THE EXPANSION INTO ADULT ED.

AND WHAT HAPPENS THERE IS STUDENTS ARE ACTUALLY EARNING THE HOURS REQUIRED FOR STATE LICENSURE THROUGH THE PROGRAM.

YOU WILL HEAR US COME BACK IN FEBRUARY AND TALK ABOUT THE EXPANSION IN THE PROGRAM AND THE STAFF REQUIRED TO DO THAT.

WE ARE BEGINNING THAT WORK TO FIND THE STAFFING TO EXPAND THAT SO THEY CAN EARN THEIR LICENSURE.

SO VERY EXCITING AND UNIQUE ASPECT OF OUR MOST RECENT CTE PATHWAY. ONE OF THE COMPONENTS WE JUST APPROVED. A CTE ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

SO EACH YEAR WE IDENTIFY INDUSTRY AND HIGHER ED PARTNERS PART OF A GROUP THAT COME TOGETHER AND TALK ABOUT HOW WE SUPPORT CTE. WE'RE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY AND INDUSTRY THAT WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN SUPPORTING OUR CTE PATHWAYS. THAT'S IT.

ANY QUESTIONS? >> YEAH, SO ATTACHED TO THE AGENDA REPORT. IT COVERS ALMOST EVERY PROGRAM.

THE FOSTER ENGAGEMENT AND SOME OF THE COURSES ACROSS THE BOARD.

LISA KAPLAN WOULD ASK THE SAME QUESTION SO I WILL ASK IN HER HONOR. IS THERE ANYTHING BEING DONE TO DRIVE STUDENTS WHO DO RA FOSTER CARE TO SOME OF THESE DIVERSE OPTIONS WE HAVE? THE NUMBERS WERE PRETTY LOW IN TERMS OF ENGAGEMENT AND DESPITE OFFERING THE DIVERSE.

>> I THINK YOU KNOW THAT'S SOMETHING I HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE TEAM AND TALK ABOUT AS WE DO HAVE A SOCIAL WORKER LIAISON THAT WORKS WITH OUR FOSTER STUDENTS AND MAKING SURE THEY HAVE THE RESOURCES AND ACCESS AND SUPPORT THEY NEED.

[01:00:03]

SO THAT'S SOMETHING I COULD CERTAINLY TALK WITH THE TEAM ABOUT AND PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION.

>> SURE. IF IT'S AGREEABLE TO THE BOARD, I WOULD LIKE THAT PRESENTED FULLY.

I WOULD LIKE A PATHWAY TO TALK ABOUT THIS.

I THINK IT'S VERY IMPORTANT. >> THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK.

>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? THIS IS GREAT.

AND I KNOW, YOU KNOW, WE JUST HAVE TO KEEP REMINDING PEOPLE THAT WE ARE GIVEN STATE WIDE RECOGNITION AND AWARDS FOR OUR CTE PROGRAMS, FOR ALL THOSE WE HAVE.

FOR A DISTRICT THIS SIZE TOO. >> WHICH THEN ALSO EXEMPLIFIES

WE ARE A DISTRICT OF CHOICE. >> YEAH.

SO IT'S, WE'RE NOT JUST PRESENTED A PIECE OF PAPER AND SAY YES, YES. THERE'S A LOT OF BEHIND THE

[XV. PUBLIC COMMENTS]

SCENES CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THESE AGENDA ITEMS. ALL RIGHT. MOVING ON TO PUBLIC COMMENT.

SO I HAVE THREE PUBLIC COMMENTS HERE.

FOUR EXCUSE ME. SO, KELLY HALL.

THEN MAN DEEP SINGH. NOELLE MILLER.

AND PASTOR TREY EVERETT. >> MY NAME IS KELLY HALL -- THANK YOU. I ATTENDED AMERICAN LAKES IN BANNON CREEK. NATOMAS JUNIOR HIGH AND ATTENDED NATOMAS HIGH SCHOOL. MY DAD SERVED AS TRUSTEE.

I AM IN CURRENTLY IN MY SECOND YEAR OF LAW SCHOOL.

I AM HERE TONIGHT TO COMMEND THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES FOR THEIR COMMITMENT TO STUDENT HEALTH. AS WE KNOW THE LANDSCAPE OF WHAT OUR STUDENTS ARE EXPERIENCING WITH SOCIAL EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT IS UNPRECEDENTED. IN OCTOBER 2021, A NATIONAL EMERGENCY WAS DECLARED IN CHILD AND ADOLESCENT HEALTH.

AS OF 2022, NEARLY 20% OF CHILDREN AGES THREE TO 17 HAVE A MENTAL EMOTIONAL OR BEHAVIORAL DISORDER.

SUICIDAL BEHAVIORS AMONG HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS INCREASED NEARLY 40% IN THE DECADE BEFORE 2019. AS I HAVE STUDIED THE EFFORTS THE BOARD HAS TAKEN TO SUPPORT STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH AT NATOMAS. I AM IMPRESSED.

HAVING A SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER IS A TREMENDOUS ASSET FOR STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH AND SCREENING FOR SOCIAL EMOTIONAL FACTORS IS AN EFFECTIVE WAY OF ENSURING ALL STUDENTS ARE MONITORED WITH REGARD TO THEIR MENTAL HEALTH. THE COMMITMENT TO CONTINUES TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES FOR TEACHERS AND STAFF IS ANOTHER COMMENDABLE STEP. I THINK IT'S CLEAR TO SAY THAT NATOMAS IS AT THE FOREFRONT OF NEIGHBORS DISTRICTS IN TERMS OF PROVIDING ACCESSIBLE CONSISTENT SOCIAL EMOTIONAL SUPPORT TO ALL STUDENTS REGARDLESS OF THE BACKGROUND AND LARGELY BECAUSE OF THE SUPPORT FROM THE DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

I COMMEND YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS AND ENCOURAGE YOU TO INVEST IN THE CRITICAL ASPECT OF EDUCATION.

THANK YOU. >> THANK YOU KELLY.

AND THANK YOU FOR, THANK YOU FOR COMING TO SPEAK BEFORE THE BOARD. AND SAY HELLO TO YOUR FAMILY FOR ME PLEASE. THANKS.

>> ALL RIGHT. MANDEEP.

HELLO BOARD MEMBERS. MY NAME IS MANDEEP SINGH.

I AM A COMMUNITY ORGANIZER. WE ORGANIZE PUNJABI YOUTH.

I HAVE 20 SCHOOLS WE WORK WITH AND WE ARE IN INDERKUM AND WEST LAKE. THAT IS TO SAY ONE OF OUR BOARD MEMBERS, I DIDN'T KNOW BUT APPARENTLY ONE OF THE TOP TENNIS PERFORMERS IN STATE OF CALIFORNIA.

SHOUT OUT TO YOU. I E-MAILED YOU FOR THE HERITAGE MONTH YOU'RE DOING NEXT MONTH. I WAS HOPING TO WORK WITH YOU ALL. I WILL LOVE TO GET ON A ZOOM WITH YOU ALL. ONE-ON-ONE OR TOGETHER IF YOU GUYS HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT SORT OF THE WORDING OF THE RESOLUTION I SHARED WITH YOU ALL. I WILL CONNECT WITH MS. DEIDRA AS WELL TO GET THAT GOING. WANTED TO SHARE THIS WAS A COMMENT LAST YEAR. I WAS READING THROUGHOUT THE

[01:10:06]

LAST YEAR'S NOVEMBER MINUTES. ONE THE PARENTS APPRECIATED WE HAVE AWARENESS MONTH, IT'S ONLY LISTED ON THE WEBSITE.

SHE STATED ALL SCHOOL SITES SHOULD BE SENDING SOMETHING HOME IN THE OF WEBSITE AND THE STUDENTS AT VARIOUS SCHOOL SITES AND STUDENTS NOTHING HAD BEEN SENT HOME WITH THE SIKH AWARENESS MONTH. THIS IS GOING ALONG WITH HOW WE DON'T GET ENGAGEMENT WITH CERTAIN THINGS AT THESE MEETINGS. I THINK A LOT OF TIMES PEOPLE ARE SO BUSY THEY DON'T HAVE TIME TO COME ONLINE.

SOME PEOPLE DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE A COMPUTER.

ESPECIALLY WHEN WE LOOK INTO OUR COMMUNITY.

WE CAN LOOK AT FINDING DIFFERENT WAYS.

I WILL DEFINITELY SHARE OUR RESOURCES WITH MS. DEIDRA AND WORK WITH THE DISTRICT AND THE COMING MONTH TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEMS. BUT I WANTED TO INTRODUCE MYSELF

TO YOU ALL SO YOU KNOW WHO I AM. >> THANK YOU FOR COMING.

>> ALL RIGHT. NOEL AND THEN PASTOR TREY.

PASTOR EVERETT I SHOULD SAY. >>

>> GOOD EVENING. MY NAME IS NOEL MILLER.

I AM A FRESHMAN AT INDERKUM HIGH SCHOOL.

I'M HERE REGARDING CONCERNS I HAVE WITH MY EXPERIENCE AT THIS SCHOOL SO FAR. SO, YOU RECENTLY HEARD ABOUT THE SECA PROGRAM AND I AM A PART OF THAT PROGRAM, AND I REALLY WANT TO SOUND PROFESSIONAL HERE. IN SUMMARY, IT KIND OF SUCKS.

THE STUDENTS THAT I MY PEERS THAT I LEARN WITH, THEY ARE EITHER LOUDER ROWDY DISRUPTIVE, THEY DON'T PAY ATTENTION.

A LOT OF TIMES THEY'RE ON THEIR PHONES OR THEY DON'T LISTEN.

ONE GIRL IN MY CLASS SHE LEFT THE SECA PROGRAM BECAUSE SHE FELT AND KIND OF WAY ABOUT ONE OF MY TEACHERS.

EXCUSE ME. >> TAKE YOUR TIME.

>> I'M NOT REALLY SURE WHAT ELSE TO SAY.

OVER ALL. I'M NOT HAPPY ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE. IF THERE'S SOMETHING YOU COULD DO TO MAKE IT BETTER, I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT SO I COULD HAVE A BETTER LEARNING EXPERIENCE BECAUSE I REALLY WANT

TO GO PLACES. >> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU. >> THANK YOU FOR COMING.

[APPLAUSE] >> GOOD EVENING.

I AM BONTRE EVERETT. ALSO KNOWN AS PASTOR TREY THAT HAS BEEN MENTIONED THROUGHOUT THE SESSION.

I PASTOR LIFE WORKS CHURCH HERE IN NATOMAS.

I HAVE BEEN A RESIDENT FOR FIVE AND A HALF YEARS AND THIS IS MY DAUGHTER MONETTE, SHE'S A SENIOR AT INDERKUM HIGH SCHOOL AND SHE WANTED ME TO BE HERE ALONG WITH I WAS ASKED BY SEVERAL MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY TO BE HERE TONIGHT JUST TO LISTEN IN FOR ONE AND SHARE AND THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS THAT OUR COMMUNITY HAVE ABOUT THE INCIDENTS NOT JUST AT INDERKUM HIGH SCHOOL.

WE KNOW ABOUT THE INCIDENT THAT HAPPENED THIS WEEK AND THROUGHOUT THE NATOMAS SCHOOLS. ONE THING AS A PASTOR, I HAVE SEVERAL YOUNG MEMBERS OF THE CHILDREN THAT ATTEND NATOMAS SCHOOLS. THEY SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCES.

SOME SAY THROUGHOUT THE DAY THEY CANNOT GO TO THE BATHROOM BECAUSE THEY THERE ARE STUDENTS IN THERE WHO ARE SMOKING, USING DRUGS. VAPING OR WHATEVER.

THEY ARE FORCED TO HOLD IT THROUGHOUT THE DAY.

THAT SHOULD NOT BE. WE HAVE ANOTHER STUDENT AT OUR CHURCH WHO SAYS THAT THEY STAND AT THE FRONT OFFICE AT INDERKUM DURING THE LUNCH BREAK OR SWITCHING OF CLASSES BECAUSE THAT'S THE SAFEST PLACE IN CASE A FIGHT BREAKS OUT.

WHEN I PICK UP MY DAUGHTER, I SAY HOW WAS YOUR DAY.

SHE SAYS TODAY WAS A GOOD DAY BECAUSE THERE WAS ONLY ONE FIGHT OR IT WASN'T AS GREAT BECAUSE THERE'S 15 FIGHTS.

AS A MEMBER OF THE FAITH-BASED COMMUNITY BUT NOT JUST THE

[01:15:01]

FAITH-BASED COMMUNITY BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY A MEMBER OF THE NATOMAS COMMUNITY. WE ARE HERE TO WORK ALONGSIDE OF THE BOARD OF THE TRUSTEES. WE'RE HERE TO WORK ALONGSIDE THE PRINCIPALS AND ADMINISTRATORS AND TEACHERS OF OUR SCHOOLS AND I JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT. I MEAN I THINK SOMETIMES IT SEEMS LIKE WE'RE JUST IN OUR OWN LITTLE CIRCLE AND THE SCHOOLS ARE IN OUR CIRCLES. WE ARE HERE, LET US PARTNER TOGETHER WITH THE SCHOOLS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE CREATE A SE SPACE FOR OUR STUDENTS. THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE] I HAVE NO MORE PUBLIC COMMENT CARDS THIS EVENING.

SO, FOR THIS MEETING, I'M GOING
