>> AT NATOMAS HAOLT -- HIGH SCHOOL WE TOOK THE "YOU CAN" STUDENTS TO THE COLLEGE CAREER WHERE MANY STUDENTS EARNED ON THE SPOT ADMISSIONS AND SCHOLARSHIPS TO HBCU'S.

THEY WERE AWARDED A TOTAL OF 1, 2,942.88 IN SCHOLARSHIPS AND WE HOSTED THE ANNUAL NUSD COLLEGE FAIR WHICH I GOT THE OPPORTUNITY TO HELP OUT WITH AND PASS OUT PAPERS AND ATTENDING THIS EVENT IT WAS PHENOMENAL AND WE HAD A GREAT SUCCESS.

WE HAD 45 COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITIES FROM ALL OVER THE WEST COAST AND REPRESENTED ABOUT 300 FAMILIES IN ATTENDANCE. IT WAS A GREAT TURN OUT.

WE HOSTED THE CTA SHOWCASE AND HAD ALL OF THE 8TH GRADERS IN THE DISTRICT VISIT BOOTHS TO LEARN ABOUT THE PATHWAYS WE OFFER AND HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO CHECK THIS OUT LATER IN THE EVENING. I LEARNED HOW TO SHOOT A NAILGUN WHICH WAS -- SCARY.

ASB AND CLASS OFFICERS ARE PREPARING FOR HOME COMING IN TWO WEEKS.

WE STARTED PAINTING THE BACKDROPS THIS WEEK AND WE WILL SHOOT THEM OUT IN THE HOMECOMING GAME SOON. FOR NATOMAS MIDDLE SCHOOL, THEY HAD A GREAT TURN OUT FOR THEIR BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT WITH THE MULTI-PURPOSE ROOM FULL OF PARENTS -- PARENTS EXCITED TO MEET THEIR STUDENT TEACHERS. STUDENT ATHLETES ARE WORKING TO GET WINS AND DEMONSTRATE ON THE COURTS AND FLAG FOOTBALL. THE STAFF ARE ENGAGING WITH STUDENTS AS WELL AS STRATEGIC WORK IN LITERACY AND STRATEGY IN THE CLASSROOM. THEY ARE LOOKING FOR -- LOOKING FORWARD TO THE CELEBRATION NEXT WEEK. FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE LIVIG A PATHWAY IN ATTENDANCE. AT DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL, BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT WAS A TREMENDOUS SUCCESS. FAMILIES HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO MEET THEIR TEACHERS AND WITH COUNSELORS AND THEY WERE TREATED BY -- TREATED TO GOURMET COFFEE BY THE HOSPITALITY PATHWAY. THEY HAD COOL STUFF OUT THERE. THE LEADERSHIP CLASS DESIGNED AN ESCAPE ROOM THAT THEIR FAMILIES AND THE STUDENTS ENJOYED THROUGHOUT THE EVENING.

I CANNING ONLY IMAGINE. DISCOVERY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THEY HAD THEIR FIRST EARLY GRADUATES OF HIGH SCHOOL THIS YEAR. STUDENTS STARTED CONDITIONING FOR BASKETBLL SEASON AND PLAYERS ARE MEETING TWICE A WEEK AS THEY PREPARE FOR A GREAT SEASON. THEY ARE ALSO PROUD TO ANNOUNCE 9THAT THE CT PATHWAY CLASSES FOR COSMETOLOGY AND BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION WAS AT THE SHOWCASE LAST WEEK.

SCHOLARS ARE A POSITIVE ACADEMIC WEEK AND GETTING READY FOR FINALS AT THE END OF THE FIRST QUARTER NEXT WEEK. THIS WEEK THEY ENJOYED SPANISH CLASSES AND PERFORMED AT LUNCH TO A PACKED HOUSE. CLUB RUSH WAS A SUCCESS WHERE STUDENTS SROEUPBED BY VARIOUS CLUB -- STUDENTS JOINED VARIOUS CLUBS. LGA WILL CELEBRATE THEIR FIRST QUARTER 20-DAY ATTENDANCE CAMPAIGN WHERE 44% OF THE STUDENTS HAD TWO OR FEWER TARDIES OF PERFECT ATTENDANCE. THEY HAD A SUCCESSFUL BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT WHERE STUDENTS AND PARENTS BOTH ENJOYED VISITING THE TEACHERS. THE SENIOR CLASS RECENTLY PARTICIPATED IN A COMMIT TO GRADUATE CEREMONY COMPLETING THE REEMERGENCE OF A LONG-STANDING TRADITION. STUDENTS WALKED THE STAGE AND THERE WAS A COMMITMENT FOR COLLEGE AND CAREER SUCCESS. GIRLS'S GOLF TAUGHT GOLF TO AN UNDER RESOURCED AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM CALLED THE GREENHOUSE IN SOUTH NATOMAS. IT IS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT SERVES THE HIGHEST CONCENTRATION OF UNDER SERVED CHILDREN IN SACK KRAU -- SACRAMENTO. THE DRAMA CLUB HAS STARTED RE REHEARSAL FOR AN ANNUAL FALL

IT WAS REALLY JUST AN OVER ALL GOOD LEARNING EXPERIENCE TO GET TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE SCHOOL ITSELF TOO. THERE WERE LOTS OF PEOPLE, LOTS OF TACOS. A COUPLE MORE THINGS I WANT TO SHARE, I HAD THE CHANCE TO ATTEND THE ANNUAL STATE OF HISPANICS EVENT WITH THE HISPANIC CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WHERE THEY REVEALED THEIR ANNUAL DATA REPORT WITH INFORMATION THAT OF COURSE IS -- WELL, IT WAS COMPILED BY RESEARCHERS AT THE SACRAMENTO AREA COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS, STATE COLLEGE FOR SHORLT -- FOR SHORT. AND SOME RESEARCHERS AT SAC STATE WHERE THEY HAVE USEFUL INFORMATION RELATED TO EDUCATION FOR HISPANIC PEOPLE IN OUR REGION, THE SIX-COUNTY REGION AND INTERTWINING SUBJECTS LIKE ECONOMIC STATUS, WORKFORCE AND BUSINESS TRENDS AND MORE. SO IT WAS REALLY HELPFUL JUST TO BE EXPOSED TO THAT AND GET TO ASK QUESTIONS. I THINK ALL OF IT HELPS US IN OUR ROLE WITH SUCH A DIVERSE STUDENT POPULATION AND COMMUNITY POPULATION. IT MADE ME REALIZE THAT ANYONE CAN STAR A BUSINESS AND SHOULD HAVE THE TOOLS TO DO SO. TWO MORE THINGS.

I WAS ABLE TO ATTEND THE SUSTAINABILITY AWARDS ALONG WITH TRUSTEES HARDIN AND HEREDIA. THAT WAS WHERE THE HEREDIA ARREAGA SCHOOL WAS GIVEN A SUSTAINABILITY AWARD AND OUR DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT YOUNG AND THE PRINCIPAL WAS IN ATTENDANCE AND IT WAS JUST REALLY -- IT ALWAYS FEELS GOOD TO KNOW THAT WE ARE ON K-T -- CUTTING EDGE OF SOMETHING AND IN THIS CASE SOMETHING AS IMPORTANT AS MAKING SURE THAT THE NEW BUILDINGS AREN -- ARE ENVIRONMENTALLY STABLE. AND THE LAST THING I HAVE, I PROMISE THERE IS NO BONUS THING AFTER THIS, I WAS ABLE TO ATTEND THE "LET'S TALK ABOUT LOVE" EVENT AT NATOMAS CHARTER SCHOOL. THE MATTHEW SHEPHERD FOUNDATION AND MORE SPECIFICALLY MATTHEW SHEPHERD'S PARENTS TALKED -- SPOKE ABOUT THE WORK THEY WERE DOING AT PRESENT DAY ESPECIALLY THE YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE LGBTQ PLUS COMMUNITY AND HOW TO BRING MORE COMPASSION, EDUCATION AND OVERRAL PROGRESS IN REGARDS TO HUMAN AND CIVIL RIGHTS.

FOR THEM IN LEGACY OF THEIR SON, BUT IT WAS REALLY GOOD TO SEE THE NATOMAS COMMUNITY CONGREGATE FOR A REALLY IMPORTANT EVENT. THAT CONCLUDES MY BOARD REPORT.

I WAS READING AN ARTICLE TODAY THAT SAID THE COVID-19 CLOSERS CONTRIBUTED TO A 20% GLOBAL DECLINE IN LITERACY. I JUST WANT TO REMIND OUR PARENTS THAT SOMETHING GLOBAL IN NATURE IS NOT SOMETHING TAUGHT BY THE GOVERNMENT. WE WANT TO GIVE IT OUR BEST SHOT. TRUST ME GOVERNMENT CAN BE A GOOD THING.

WE VISITED THE HEALTH PATHWAY AND THE MUSIC PRODUCTION PATHWAY.

WE WERE IN THE HEALTH PATHWAY AND A STUDENT PUT A TOURNIQUET ON ME.

THEY WERE PUTTING IT ON AND EXPLAINING THE REASONING AND WHAT SHE WAS DOING IT WHILE SHE WAS DOING THAT. THE MUSIC PRODUCTION PATHWAY, I GOT TO LEARN A LOT ABOUT MICROPHONES AND THE QUALITY AND THE PLACEMENT OF THE MICROPHONE AND HOW THAT CHANGES THE SOUND QUALITY. IT IS AMAZING THAT OUR KIDS CAN LEARN THESE THINGS AND UNDERSTAND THEM AND APPLY IT TO FUTURE CAREERS. I ALSO HAD A ZOOM MEETING ABOUT PARTNERS WITH OUR COMMUNITY HEALTH ORGANIZATIONS AND OUR LOCAL COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES TO SUPPORT OUR HEALTH PATHWAY. BECAUSE THEY ARE DEFINITELY IN NEED OF FUTURE EMPLOYEES AND ARE LOOKING FOR THOSE CONNECTIONS. VERY EXCITED TO FIND WAYS TO SUPPORT OUR PROGRAM. IT WAS GREAT TO SEE FAMILIES OUT AND I TALKED TO PARENTS AND THEY WERE EXCITED ABOUT THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR AND WHAT THEIR STUDENTS WHOA -- WOULD BE LEARNING. I HAD A FIRST SUPERINTENDENT ADVISORY COUNCIL AND IT WAS A GREAT TURNOUT. WE ARE USING A PLATFORM TO GAIN PARENT FEEDBACK AND THEY CAN RATE OUR DISTRICT GOALS AND LCAP ACTIONS AND SERVICES. AND WE OUR SUPERINTENDENT THERE TO TALK ABOUT SCHOOL SAFETY AND WHERE WE ARE. A LOT OF GOOD FEEDBACK ABOUT FUTURE TOPICS AND WE ARE PUTTING A SURVEY OUT TO MAKE SURE WE ARE DISCUSSING THINGS RELEVANT AND GETTING FEEDBACK FROM PARENTS. ALSO ENJOYED THE CTE SHOWCASE.

I ACTUALLY GOT TO GET UP IN THE FIRE TRUCK AND GET THE SIRENS AND THE HORN AND LIGHTS FLASHING. THE STUDENT SHOWING ME EVERYTHING HAD AN EXCITEMENT OF WHAT SHE WAS DOING. SHE WANTS TO BE A FIREFIGHTER AND SHE COULDN'T SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT HER TEACHER. HAVING SOMEBODY WITH INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE WHO CAN TELL THEM WHAT IT IS LIKE TO DO THAT, THE STUDENT THAT SUE BROUGHT WAS SO EXCITED ABOUT THE CULINARY PROGRAM AND MADE A LITTLE STRAWBERRY SHORT CAKE AND VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

THAT WAS FUN TO SEE. I MET PASTOR DEAN FROM REAL LIFE CHURCH WHO IS OUR NEIGHBOR. HE CAME OVER TO INTRODUCE HIMSLEF -- HIMSELF AND INTERESTED IN A PARTNERSHIP. I -- MONDAY NIGHT I WENT TO MY FIRST GIRL'S FLAG FOOTBALL AND GOT TO SEE POWELL'S DAUGHTER. I GOT TO TALK TO THE GIRLS AFTER AND THEY TOOK A PICTURE WITH ME. THEY ARE EXCITED ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND THEIR ENTHUSIASM. IT IS GREAT TO SEE THAT. ALSO WENT TO A VOLLEYBALL GAME LAST NIGHT AND I LOVE BEING OUT AT THE EVENTS AND TALKING TO THE KIDS.

IT WASN'T JUST ONE CLASSROOM. IT WAS ALL OF THE CLASSROOMS I VISITED.

YOU CAN SEE THE COLLABORATION AND THE STRATEGIES THAT WERE BEING WORKED ON AT THE SCHOOL SITE AND THE LEARNING POSTERS THAT WERE UP ON THE WALL, JUST SAW -- SUPPORTING THE GOOD, WOULD. THIS IS KIND OF A FAST BOARD. THESE ARE SOME FANTASTIC HIGHLIGHTS THAT WE HAVE NOW.

MOST DISTRICTS HAVE SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGISTS AND SOCIAL WORKERS AND INTERNS.

AS WE GO THROUGH OUR PRESENTATION, WE ARE GOING TO FIND THAT OUR NUMBERS ARE PRETTY REMARKABLE. IT'S NOT AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS COMING DOWN A LITTLE MORE TIED TO WHAT ALL THOSE -- WELL, WE LOOKED AT THE BIG IDEAS AND THEY STARTED TO DEFINE -- OKAY WE HAVE SOCIAL WORK. AND THIS IS REMARKABLE WHEN WE LOOK AT THIS. WE HAVE A SOCIAL WORKER FOR EVERY SCHOOL. WRAOE HAVE A PSYCHOLOGIST -- WE HAVE A PSYCH KWR*EUS -- PSYCHOLOGIST AT EVERY SCHOOL. IT IS A REMARKABLE COMMITMENT AND SOMETHING I AM PROUD TO BE A PART OF. SIMILARLY WE GET -- NEW DAWN IS A PARTNERSHIP WE HAVE ENGAGED IN THAT THEY MONITOR SOCIAL MEDIA. SIMILARLY IF STUDENTS ARE POSTING THINGS THAT ARE NEGATIVE SELF-CONCEPTS, SELF-HARM, SUICIDAL IDEATION, THE PURPOSE OF THIS PRESENT -- PRESENTATION WE HAD 70 SELF-HARM ALERTS THAT WE RESPONDED TO.

GO GUARDIAN, NEW DAWN, WE ARE MONITORING ACTIVE BEHAVIOR THAT STUDENTS ARE DEMONSTRATING.

THEY ARE ONLINE AND TYPING THINGS WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT. THEY ARE ON THEIR SOEBL -- SOCIAL MEDIA. THEY ARE A UNIVERSAL SCREENER AND THEY CHECK IN WITH STUDENTS ON HOW THEY ARE DOING. IF THE TEACHER HAS THE SKILLS, LITTLE BY LITTLE IN SMALL GROUPS AND IN A TIME WHEN STUDENTS ARE LOOKING FOR AN OUTLET THIS IS ONE MECHANISM IN WHICH THEY CAN SHARE THEIR FEELINGS.

A LOT OF SKILLS AS A RESULT AND I THINK WE NEED TO LOOK AT WHAT ARE THE SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL -- WHAT ARE THE PRO-SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT SKILLS THAT ARE 9BEING DEVELOPED.
