ALSO IN THE PAST WEEK WE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEND NICE NOTES TO STAFF. WE WERE A GREEN CELEBRATED THEIR RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS AND -- [INAUDIBLE] HOT CHOCOLATE, DONUT, RAFFLE AND ROTE BEER FLOAT. L.G.A.ENJOYED SIMILAR WINTER SPORTS WINS. NATOMAS HAD THEIR BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM GO TO PLAY-OFFS AND ACHIEVE AMAZING RANKING OF 5TH. FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO HAVING A VOLLEYBALL TEAM AND NATOMAS' -- [INAUDIBLE] TO FINISH IT OFF WE'D LIKE TO THANK SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS AND STAFF WHO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL EDUCATION NEEDS. THE STANDS WERE FULL AND THE MIDDLE SCHOOL KIDS ABSOLUTELY HAD A BLAST BEING ABLE TO PLAY THE FINAL TOURNAMENT AT INDERKUM HIGH SCHOOL'S BASKETBALL COURT.

THEN SHOUTOUT TO THE TIGERS. I'VE BEEN ABLE TO GO TO INDERKUM THE LAST COUPLE OF GAMES AT HOME.

THOSE BOYS ARE PLAYING EXTREMELY WELL.

THEN I JUST WOULD LIKE TO END THE NIGHT, OUR COLLEAGUE AND FRIEND DR. SUE HEREDIA RECENTLY JUST LOST HER MOTHER WHO GAINED HER WINGS AND HER MEMORY IS A BLESSING BUT I KNOW NO MATTER WHAT AGE WE ARE WHEN WE LOSE A PARENT, IT'S A HARD THING.

I WANT TO FIRST NOTE THAT NUSD HAS BEEN WORKING TOWARDS ACQUIRING LAND IN THE AREA OF THE ARENA FOR OVER 8 YEARS.

SO IT HAS BEEN A, AN 8-YEAR JOURNEY.

NUSD AS A GROWING DISTRICT IS ALWAYS LOOKING AT POTENTIAL OPPORTUNITIES TO, FOR LAND PURCHASE AND HAS REVIEWED MULTIPLE LAND OPTIONS OVER THE PAST YEARS.

THE ARENA WAS DESIGN TO THE DISTRICT BECAUSE OF THE ITS CENTRAL LOCATION AND WITHIN THE NUSD BOUNDARIES.

NUSD HAD OTHER SITES THAT WERE CONSIDERED THAT WERE NOT SUITABLE FOR SOUL SITE FOR VARIOUS REASONS.

I WANT TO SAY GOING ALL THE WAY BACK TO MAYE 20 -- 2016 THE NUSD TRUSTEES ESTABLISHED A COMMITTEE TO INVESTIGATE THE ACQUISITION OF THE PARCEL IN THE ARENA AREA AND ACTUALLY HELD ITS ONE AND ONLY MEETING IN SEPTEMBER 2016. NUSD DECIDED TO MOVE ON AT THAT POINT BECAUSE THERE WAS NO DEVELOPMENT PLANS AND THE PLANS FOR THAT AREA WAS MULTIPLE YEARS OFF.

SO THERE WAS DIFFERENT OPTIONS THAT WOULD BE A WAY IN TERMS OF HOW THE LAND WOULD BE USED.

IT WASN'T UNTIL JUNE 2021, FIVE YEARS LATER, THAT NUSD HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THE LAND PURCHASE. NEXT SLIDE.

THERE WAS QUITE 'FEW BOARD ACTIONS.

THE DISTRICT ENGAGED THE BOARD IN THE ACQUISITION PROCESS STARTING IN JUNE 2021.

NUSD BEGAN TO NEGOTIATE WITH THE SACRAMENTO TEENS ORGANIZATION FOR THE PURCHASE OF THE ARENA PARCELS. YOU CAN SEE THERE THERE'S CLOSED SESSION AGENDAS THAT WERE CLOSED SESSIONS WERE HELD ON MAYE 12 AND JUNE 7TH, SEE PARCEL NUMBERS WHERE THE BOARD CONFERENCED ON THE PROPERTY.

ON JUNE 7TH THE BOARD APPROVED RESOLUTION 21-22 IN OPEN SESSION GRANTING THE SUPERINTENDENT AUTHORITY TO NEGOTIATE THE LAND ACQUISITION.

IN JANUARY 19TH, ANOTHER CLOSED SESSION WAS HELD PRIOR TO THE JANUARY 19TH OPEN SESSION AGENDA ITEM

WHICH ACTUALLY APPROVED THE PURCHASE SALE AGREEMENT FOR THE ARENA PARCELS. THE PUBLIC HEARING TONIGHT IS AS I MENTIONED EARLIER TO ADDRESS THE PRELIMINARY ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT OF THE PROPERTY.

THE PURPOSE OF THE PUBLIC HEARING IS TO ACCEPT COMMENTS ON THE PRELIMINARY ENVIRONMENTAL ASESSIONMENT.

THE PUBLIC HEARING IS REQUIRED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF TOXIC SUBSTANCE CONTROL, AND FOR D.P.S.C.TO APPROVE THE PARCEL THE DISTRICT MUST ENSURE THAT THE SITE MEETS STANDARDS FOR DEVELOPMENT. RIGHT NOW THE PRELIMINARY ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT STATES THERE IS NO HARMFUL LEVELS OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS IN THE SOIL.

SO THE PRELIMINARY ASSESSMENT, PRELIMINARY ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESS. WAS PROVIDED FOR REVIEW AND TO VALIDATE THE FINDINGS. SO RIGHT NOW THIS IS OPEN

SO AS YOU CAN IMAGINE THERE IS A LOT OF CHALLENGES WITH THAT. THERE ARE THINGS WE'RE WORKING THROUGH. FOR DISTRICTS THAT ARE DECLINING IN ENROLLMENT IT MAY NOT BE AS BIG AFTER CHALLENGE ON THE FACILITIES SIDE BECAUSE THEY WOULD HAVE SPACE FOR US. WE'RE A GROWING DISTRICT AS I'VE SHOWN YOU. WE TRIED TO BOOK, A BASE LEVEL WHEN THINGS SETTLE OUT, WE'RE NOT OVERSTAFFED STORE UNDERSTAFFED. AGAIN THAT IS, THAT IS -- WHAT YOU CAN CALL OUR BEST EDUCATED GUEST ON WHAT THAT WOULD BE AT THAT TIME. THAT'S WHAT WE'RE PLANNING TO DO WITH THAT. IT'S WHAT WE WOULD DO IN ANY YEAR. I DON'T WANT TO MAKE TOO BIG OF A DEAL BUT IT'S SOMETHING WE KEEP AN EYE ON BECAUSE KIDS AT MEEKS COULD RETURN TO THEIR HOME SCHOOL SO IT'S SOMETHING WE'RE PAYING EXTRA TENSION TO.

I'M WONDERING WHAT THE DISTRICT CAN DO TO HELP TEACHERS IN THE CLASSROOM.

EARLIER IN THE YEAR LAST FALL, YOU KNOW, WE COULDN'T VOLUNTEER, PARENT COULDN'T VOLUNTEER BECAUSE OF THE COVID RESTRICTIONS AND I KNOW THOSE HAVE BEEN LIFTED, BUT EVEN WITH THE ALLOWING PARENTS BACK IN THE CLASSROOMS I THINK THERE IS STILL A GAP WITH JUST THE NATURE OF THE CLASSROOM SETTING WITH TEACHERS AND NOT HAVING ASSISTANCE IN THE CLASSROOM.

MASKING IS NOT STOPPING THE SPREAD OF COVID.
