NEXT UP WILL BE TRUSTEE COMMUNICATIONS LOOKS LIKE WALI-ALI IS ABSENT SO WE START WITH TRUSTEE BAINS. ANY COMMUNICATIONS? NO COMMUNICATIONS, JUST WANTED TO SAY WE'VE BEEN WATCHING ALL THE [INDISCERNIBLE] TEACHERS TO [00:05:06] THE PRINCIPALS AND [INDISCERNIBLE] WORKING REALLY HARD DEALING WITH THE CURRENT SITUATION THAT'S OUT THERE. JUST WANT TO THANK EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU. YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN ACHIEVING AT LEAST A MONTH OR SO. IT'S [INDISCERNIBLE]. >> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE BAINS. TRUSTEE HARDEN. >> I'M WITH TRUSTEE BAINS. THE STUDENTS, STAFF, PARENTS, COMMUNITY, THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK. MENTAL HEALTH IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME. IF YOU DON'T FEEL AS THOUGH YOU'RE GETTING WHAT YOU NEED PLEASE REACH OUT TO US AND LET US KNOW. WE'RE WELCOME TO REACH OUT TO ME DIRECTLY. I UNDERSTAND HOW HARD THIS IS RIGHT NOW BEING IN THE CLASSROOMS, BEING ON CAMPUSES. I'M IN THE CLASSES TOO AND IT'S SCARY TIMES AND BUT WE KNOW WHY WE DO IT. WE'RE DOING IT FOR OUR STUDENTS SO I TRULY THANK YOU AND LET'S JUST KEEP STICKING TOGETHER. ALSO I WILL BE HAVING MY CAMERA OFF DUE TO THE FACT THAT NOBODY SHOULD HAVE TO SEE ME COUGHING TONIGHT. THANK YOU. >> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE HARDEN. TRUSTEE HEREDIA. >> THANK YOU. I ECHO THE COMMENTS THAT WERE MADE BY FELLOW TRUSTEES ABOUT THANKING ALL THOSE INVOLVED WITH OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT AND OUR KIDS. I JUST WANTED TO SHARE THAT I WAS ABLE TO VISIT TWO SCHOOLS LAST WEEK, TWO RIVERS AND LEEWAY GREEN AND IN PARTICULAR AT TWO RIVERS I GOT TO OBSERVE THE CLASSROOMS, WAS A BIG PART OF THE CLASSROOM AND IN PARTICULAR I WAS REALLY EXCITED WHEN I SAW KIDS ENGAGED IN ACTIVITIES THAT HELP DEVELOP SOCIAL SKILLS AND ALSO HIGHER-LEVEL THINKING SKILLS. IT WILL WAS REALLY -- IT WAS FUN TO WATCH THEM INTERACT WITH EACH OTHER, IN PART WHEN THEY USED LANGUAGE THAT ADULTS SHOULD USE ON A REGULAR BASIS, LIKE, YOU KNOW, LIKE I UNDERSTAND YOUR POINT OF VIEW. HOWEVER, WOULD YOU LIKE TO HEAR MY POINT OF VIEW. AND SO THAT ALWAYS MAKES ME SO HAPPY WHEN I HEAR YOUNG KIDS USING THAT KIND OF LANGUAGE THINKING THAT'S I'M HOPING THAT CARRIES THEM THROUGH THE YEARS. AND SO AT TWO RIVERS I HAD A CHANCE, I ACTUALLY WAS STOPPED BY ONE OF THE -- ONE OF OUR CLASS PEOPLE WHO WORK IN THE OFFICE WHO SHARED HOW SHE'S JUST SO GRATEFUL TO THE TEACHERS AT TWO RIVERS BECAUSE WHEN THE STUDENTS ARE ABSENT THE TEACHERS WILLINGLY AND, YOU KNOW, WITHIN A TIMELY PERIOD PUT POCKETS TOGETHER FOR THOSE KIDS WHO HAVE TO STAY AT HOME FOR WHATEVER REASON, WHETHER IT'S THE PANDEMIC OR AN EXTENDED ILLNESS AND SHE SHOWED ME AND WANTED TO MAKE SURE I SAW HOW SHE ENTERS THAT INFORMATION IN THE COMPUTER AND THAT ALTHOUGH THE WORKLOAD WAS HEAVY SOMETIMES SHE WAS VERY -- SHE WAS VERY GRATEFUL TO THE 250E67ERS AND SHE DIDN'T MIND BECAUSE SHE KNEW THE KIDS WERE BETTER AT HOME, STAYING SAFE AND NOT SPREADING THEIR GERMS AMONG THEIR CLASSMATES. AT LEROY GREEN, IT'S GREAT TO VISIT THIS SCHOOL SITE BECAUSE IT'S GOT SUCH A BEAUTIFUL CAMPUS WHEN YOU WALK AROUND WITH ALL THE TREES AND SUCH A SMALL SCHOOL AND AGAIN I WAS GRATEFUL TO BE ABLE TO WALK THROUGH THE CLASSROOMS AND LISTEN TO KIDS ENGAGED IN CONVERSATIONS AND I THINK THAT'S PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST THINGS IS THAT WHEN I GO TO THESE CLASSROOMS IS WATCHING THE STUDENTS ENGAGE WITH ONE ANOTHER BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE YOU SEE WHAT TYPE OF LEARNING HAS OCCURRED, OF THE SKILLS THEY HAVE. KIND OF ON THIS DATE, LEVEL OF CSBA, I JUST YOU KNOW HAVE BEEN DOING MULTIPLE RADIO INTERVIEWS AND A COUPLE OF TV INTERVIEWS ON THE GOVERNOR'S BUDGET. TWO POINTS I WANT TO SHARE, ALWAYS ASKED BY THE PUBLIC IS, YOU KNOW, SO WHY DO YOU NEED MORE MONEY IF YOUR SCHOOL DISTRICT BECAUSE YOU HAVE SO MUCH MONEY NOW. AND SO WHY DO WE KEEP HEARING ABOUT THIS CLIFF THAT WILL HAPPEN IN POTENTIALLY THREE YEARS SO IT'S JUST AN OPPORTUNITY FOR US AND I THINK FOR US AS TRUSTEES TOO TO REMIND THE PUBLIC THAT, YOU KNOW, WE DID RECEIVE A LOT OF ONE-TIME MONIES, A LOT OF IT CAME, YOU KNOW, IN THE FORM OF RELIEF FUNDS AND THAT MONEY ISN'T GOING TO LAST FOR VERY LONG GIVEN THE EXTENDED NEEDS OF THE PANDEMIC, SO IT MAY LOOK LIKE WE HAVE A LOT OF MONEY AND, YES, WE ARE GRATEFUL TO THE GOVERNOR FOR THE MONEY THAT WE HAVE. [00:10:01] HOWEVER, THAT MONEY IS TEMPORARY AND ALSO THE FEDERAL ONES THAT WE RECEIVED, THAT MONEY IS TEMPORARY AND SO I THINK THAT WE'RE DOING A GOOD JOB WITH THE MONEY THAT WE HAVE RECEIVED AND I'M PROUD OF THE WAY THAT WE HAVE SPENT THE MONEY AND THE WAY WE'VE TARGETED IT FOR KIDS. AND THEN FINALLY, YOU KNOW, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT'S ASKED IS ABOUT AS WE TALK ABOUT LEARNING LOSS AND THERE'S JUST SO MUCH, SO MUCH ATTENTION TO THIS TOPIC RIGHT NOW IN TERMS OF, YOU KNOW, WHAT ARE WE DOING AS NOT ONLY AS A SMALL DISTRICT, SMALL OR LARGE DISTRICTS, BUT WHAT ARE WE DOING ACROSS THE STATE AND I THINK WE'LL BE LOOKING AT THIS FOR A LONG TIME AND EVEN KNOW NATOMAS LEADS IN BY A LOT OF EXAMPLES, I THINK, YOU KNOW, WE ARE ALSO GOING TUBE -- THIS IS SOMETHING WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUALLY BE LOOKING AT BECAUSE INNING WE'RE ALREADY SEEING IN SOME DISTRICTS ACROSS THE STATE UNFORTUNATELY THE LOSS OF LEARNING ON WHAT IT HAS ON STUDENTS AND THIS IS SOMETHING REALLY IMPORTANT TO ME BECAUSE AS I'VE SAID BEFORE, KIDS ONLY HAVE ONE CHANCE IN A PARTICULAR GRADE LEVEL AND WE HAVE TO ALWAYS MAKE SURE THAT WE GIVE THEM THE BEST OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN IN THAT PARTICULAR GRADE LEVEL. OTHERWISE IT'S VERY CHALLENGING TO CATCH UP. I THINK THAT'S IT. THANK YOU. >> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE HEREDIA. TRUSTEE KAPLAN. >> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE GRANT. I JUST WANT TO AGAIN THANK ALL OF OUR COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS THAT EVERY WEEK SHOW UP AT JOEY'S FOOD LOCKER. WE ARE HAVING 20 TO 30 PEOPLE SHOW UP WEEKLY. I AM MOST IMPRESSED BY YOUNG STUDENTS AND SCHOOL EVERY SINGLE, SEVERAL FROM [INDISCERNIBLE] HIGH SCHOOL. I WAS WORKING WITH A GROUP OF BOYS LAST WEEK, YOUNG MEN. I SHOULDN'T CALL THEM BOYS. YOUNG MEN WHO STARTED THIS AS THEIR SENIOR PROJECT AND THEY'VE NOW INVITED THEIR COUSIN WHO GRADUATED LAST YEAR, THEIR OTHER COUSIN WHO GOES TO A NEIGHBORING HIGH SCHOOL IN A DIFFERENT DISTRICT AND THEY'RE OUT THERE HUSTLING, PUTTING BAGS IN CARS, SLINGING 50 POUNDS OF YAMS, YOU KNOW, HELPING BREAK IT DOWN AND THEY CONSTANTLY TESTED ME, WE LOVE THIS. THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER. I DIDN'T LIKE DISTANCE LEARNING. I STARTED THIS T FOR MY SENIOR PROJECT BUT THIS MAKES ME FEEL GOOD AND THEY'RE LIKE, WE'RE JUST GOING TO KEEP COMING BACK AND SO I'M SO IMPRESSED BY OUR GENERAL GENERATION. THERE'S A COUPLE OF YOUNG LADIES WHO I HAVE SEEN FOR OVER A YEAR AND A HALF WHO ARE ONLY SOPHOMORES THAT COME EVERY FRIDAY TO VOLUNTEER SO WE HAVE A SPECTACULAR COMMUNITY AND GROUP OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS THAT REALLY MAKE ME PROUD FOR HOW THEY'RE GIVING BACK. I JUST WANT TO ECHO EVERY TRUSTFIS' COMMENTS, THANK YOU TO OUR STAFF. I WALK MY KIDS TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY AND I GO IN AND I SEE THE PRINCIPAL AT THE FRONT OFFICE ANSWERING PHONES AND I SEE SO MANY PEOPLE TAKING THEIR PREP TIME AND HELPING OTHERS. I SEE TEACHERS VOLUNTEERING KNOWING THAT THEY'RE GOING TO BE DOWN A TEACHER AND A GRADE LEVEL, THAT THEY'RE SPLITTING THE CLASSES HAPPILY AMONG THEMSELVES SO I SEE HOW HARD EVERYBODY'S WORKING, OUR JANUARY OFFICERS, OUR NUTRITION SERVICES, YOU KNOW, PEOPLE PICKING UP WHERE THEY CAN AND THAT IS SO APPRECIATIVE AND THEN OFFICIALLY THE CAP BLIP FOR KIDS SCHOLARSHIP IS OPEN -- KAPLAN FOR KIDS SCHOLARSHIP IS OPEN THE APPLICATION HAS BEEN OUT TO THE HIGH SCHOOLS AND THE DEADLIE IS IN MARCH SO HOPE WE GET KIDS TO APPLY FOR THAT BECAUSE I LOVE GIVING OUT BOOKS. ON CONSENT, THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO IS DONATING TO OUR COMMUNITY ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO DONATED TO HELP HOUSE SEVERAL HOMELESS FAMILIES, UNHOUSED FAMILIES OVER THE HOLIDAYS FOR A LITTLE BIT OF AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME THAT WE CAN HELP CONNECT THEM WITH SERVICES TO TRY AND HELP OUR FAMILIES AND STUDENTS AND GIVE THEM SHELTER OVER THE HOLIDAYS AND THANK YOU FOR THE COMMUNITY STEPPING UP ON THAT. >> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE KAPLAN. >> I'LL KEEP IT BRIEF AND ECHO ALL THE COMMENTS WITH ALL THE TRUSTEES. ASSUME EVANS, ANY COMMUNICATION THIS EVENING. >> WHO TOO. I'LL SAY DITTO AND THAT THE EMAIL I SAW TO THE STAFF SAYS IT ALL SO I WON'T SPEND ANY TIME HERE. >> ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU. THAT CONCLUDES [XI. CONSENT ITEMS] COMMUNICATIONS. NEXT UP IS THE CONSENT CALENDAR. I'LL LOOK FOR A MOTION AND -- >> APPROVAL OF THE CONSENT CALENDAR. >> MOTION BY TRUSTEE KAPLAN. [00:15:05] IS THERE A SECOND? >> SECOND. >> SECOND BY TRUSTEE HARDEN. COULD YOU PLEASE CALL THE ROLL. >> BAINS. >> YES. >> GRANT. >> YES. >> HARDEN. >> YES. >> HEREDIA. >> YES. >> KAPLAN. >> YES. >> ALL RIGHT. MOTION PASSES 5-0. ALL RIGHT. NEXT UP IS THE PUBLIC HEARING. [XII.a. I WOULD LIKE TRUE OPEN THE PUBLIC HEARING FOR THE DISTRICT'S INITIAL CONTRACT PROPOSALS FOR THE [INDISCERNIBLE] '22 AND '23 SCHOOL YEAR. LOOKS LIKE CHRISTINA HAS ANOTHER THING TO SHARE WITH US. >> I'M STEPPING IN FOR ANGELA. CHRISTINA, IF YOU WOULD ROLLED. THE BIG PICTURE FOR OUR AGREEMENT COMMENCING JULY 1, 2022, NATOMAS UNIFIED IS COMMITTED TO SPENDING TIME AND ENERGY AND LIMITED STATE RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO INVEST IN PROFESSIONAL GROWTH, ENGAGING FAMILIES WITH SPECIFIC SERVICES, SPECIAL EDUCATION, EARLY LEARNING, AND THEN THE MANNER OF COMPENSATION WHICH COVERS FINANCES AS WELL AS HEALTH AND WELFARE. SO ITEM B, I WOULD LIKE TO OPEN [XII.d. WITH THAT ONCE, AGAIN, I WON'T READ ALL THE ARTICLES TO YOU BUT IT'S ARTICLE 4, 5, SIX, TEN, 13 AND TWO NEW ONES, ONE THAT WOULD CAPTURE INTO THE CONTRACT THE WORK THAT WE WORKED COLLABORATIVELY WITH NTA ON TO DEVELOP THE MEEKS ACADEMY, WHICH IS LARGER THAN INITIAL PLANNED BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC BUT IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE HAD PLANNED FOR AND NEGOTIATED I THINK AS FAR BACK AS '14 OR '16 AND IT'S SOMETHING THAT WILL BE WITH US FOR A WHILE AND THE NEW ARTICLE, SAME THING WITH CSEA. IS THERE ANY TRUSTEE DISCUSSION, QUESTIONS? >> MOVE APPROVAL. >> MOVED BY TRUSTEE KAPLAN. >> SECOND. >> SECOND BY TRUSTEE BAINS. >> JEN, PLEASE CALL THE ROLL. [XIV.b. Approve the District's Initial Contract Proposal for Negotiations with the Natomas Teachers Association (NTA) for the 2022-23 School Year] >> MOTION CARRIES 5-0. NEXT UP IS ACTION ITEM B, APPROVE THE DISTRICT'S INITIAL CONTRACT PROPOSAL FOR NEGOTIATIONS WITH NATOMAS TEACHERS ASSOCIATION. IF THERES NOT ANY DEBATE OR DISCUSSION OR OBJECTION, WE CAN SUBSTITUTE THE PRIOR ROLL CALL [XIV.c. Present and Approve New Vision Statement] VOTE. THAT CARRIES 5-0. ACTION ITEM C, PRESENT AND IMPROVE A NEW BUSINESS STATEMENT. I THINK DEPUTY SUPERVISOR BILL YOUNG HAS SOMETHING TO SHARE WITH US THIS EVENING. >> GOOD EVENING, AND PRESENTING TONIGHT BEFORE YOU IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE DISCUSSION AND ADOPT A NEW VISION AND IF YOU GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE. AS YOU HAVE THAT DISCUSSION AS WE MOVE FORWARD AND APPROVE A NEW VISION POTENTIALLY YOU'LL DO THAT THROUGH CONSIDERING OUR SCHOOL'S POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION, OR PDIS, AND/OR RESPONSIVE CLASSROOM STATEMENTS. EACH SCHOOL HAS A STATEMENT THAT THEY USE AND I'LL SHARE A FEW SLIDES ON THAT IN A FEW MOMENTS. YOU ALSO GET TO CONSIDER OUR SCHOOL ADMISSION STATEMENTS AND ALSO HOW THEY MAY BE DEVELOPED OR REFINED WITH A POTENTIAL NEW VISION STATEMENT AS WE MOVE FORWARD. I DEFINITELY CONSIDER WHAT OUR STAKEHOLDERS HAVE SHARED. AS WE TAKE A LOOK, WE DOCUMENT A DIFFERENT APPROACH IN DEVELOPING THIS VISION AND IT'S A BOTTOM OF DEVELOPMENT PROCESS. IT'S FROM THE CLASSROOM TO THE BOARD ROOM. EACH ONE OF OUR SCHOOLS HAS A PDIF STATEMENT AND EACH ONE OF OUR SCHOOLS HAS A MISSION STATEMENT. AS WE ANALYZE THOSE IN CONJUNCTION WITH WORDS THAT RESONATED WITH STAKEHOLDERS THREE OPTIONS WILL BE PRESENTED [00:35:07] FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION. NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. THE NEXT FEW SLIDES ARE EXAMPLES OF STATEMENTS. FOR EXAMPLE, AMERICAN LAKES HAS THE EAGLE WAY. WITHIN THAT THERE'S AS BRANDING STATEMENT FOR, SO EACH CLASSROOM AT THE SCHOOL AND AT THE SCHOOL SITE, SCHOOL-WIDE IS USING THAT STATEMENT. YOU SEE THE SAMPLES FOR ALL OF THE OTHER SCHOOLS AS WELL. GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE. DURING THIS PRESENTATION IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE SHARE. AND NEXT SLIDE. THESE ARE THE EXAMPLES AND ACTUALLY THE STATEMENTS THAT ARE WITH THE SCHOOL SITE. AND THE NEXT SLIDE WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE TOOK A LOOK AT THOSE, RIGHT, AS WE TALKED ABOUT FROM THAT NEW APPROACH OR THE APPROACH FROM DEVELOPING A VISION FROM THE BOTTOM UP, FROM THE CLASS ROM TO THE BOARD ROOM, AND YOU CAN SEE THE WORDS THAT RESONATED WITH EACH SCHOOL'S PDIS STATEMENTS SO, FOR EXAMPLE, RESPECTFULLY WAS A WORD THAT WAS USED IN MULTIPLE SCHOOL SITES STATEMENTS. NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. WE ALSO TOOK A LOOK AT EACH SCHOOL'S MISSION STATEMENTS. AND ALIGNED IT WITH A SLIDE THAT WE SHARED WITH YOU PREVIOUSLY WHICH WILL BE THE NEXT ONE BUT WORDS THAT WERE INCONJUNCTION WITH OUR STAKEHOLDER FEEDBACK, THE SURVEYS IN THE FALL FROM THE PARENT ENGAGEMENT OPPORTUNITIES, FROM OUR STUDENT FOCUS GROUPS AND, YOU KNOW, SO AGAIN THAT BOTTOM-UP APPROACH, CLASSROOM TO THE BOARD ROOM. GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE. THIS IS A FAMILIARLILY SLIDE. WE SHARED THIS A FEW MONTHS AGO. THIS WAS FROM THE SURVEY. YOU SEE THE FOR FIVE WORDS. AS A REMINDER, IF YOU CONNECTED HEALTH AND WELLNESS TOGETHER THAT WOULD ACTUALLY RISE TO NUMBER TWO AS FAR AS THE TOP FIVE. GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. SO COMBINING ALL OF THOSE WORDS AND ANALYSIS AND TAKING A LOOK FROM A BOTTOM-UP APPROACH WE'RE REPRESENTING BEFORE YOU FOR DISCUSSION FOR TRUSTEES AND CONSIDERATION THREE OPTIONS TO CONSIDER FOR A VISION STATEMENT. AND OPTION A, ALL STUDENTS WILL EMBRACE DIVERSITY AND ACHIEVE THEIR FULL POTENTIAL AS RESPONSIBLE, SUCCESSFUL, HEALTHY GRADUATES EQUIPPED TO MAKE DECISIONS ABOUT THEIR COLLEGE AND CAREER OPTIONS. THE HIGHLIGHT OF WHERE IT'S INDICATES WORDS THAT RESONATED, STAKEHOLDERS OR WERE IDENTIFIED IN THE MISSION STATEMENTS WERE THE PDIS STATEMENTS FROM EACH SCHOOL. OPTION B, ALL STUDENTS WILL ACHIEVE BY DEMONSTRATING ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL GROWTH, EMBRACE DIVERSITY AND PREPARED TO MAKE PERSONAL DECISIONS ABOUT THEIR COLLEGE AND CAREER SUCCESS. THE THIRD OPTION FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION IS OPTION C. THEY'LL PROVIDE AN ENGAGING AND SAFE COMMUNITY WHERE ALL STUDENTS WILL ACHIEVE AND DEMONSTRATE ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL GROWTH AND EMBRACE DIVERSITY AND PREPARED TO MAKE DECISIONS ABOUT THEIR COLLEGE AND CAREER SUCCESS. THOSE WERE THE THREE OPTIONS PRESENTED BEFORE YOU. ONE OF THE OTHER CONSIDERATIONS, IS THERE A WAY TO COMBINE THESE INTO ANOTHER OPTION. THAT'S A DISCUSSION THAT WILL HAPPEN OVER THE NEXT FEW MINUTES, IF THAT'S AN INTEREST OF TRUSTEES, OR IT MAY BE A SELECTION OF ONE OF THE OPTIONS TO CARRY US FORWARD. IF WOE GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. AND SO WHICH VISION WILL GUIDE OUR DISTRICT AND THIS NEW VISION WILL START IN '22 AND '23 IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE FOUR AND FIVE STRATEGIC PLAN. SO WE MAY POTENTIALLY ADOPT TONIGHT IT WON'T START TOMORROW. IT'S GOING TO TAKE SOME TIME TO IMPLEMENT THE VISION ONCE WE GET THIS LAUNCHED. >> WE WOULD START BRANDING LIKE RIGHT AWAY. WE WOULD BEGIN THE POWER OF BRANDING IS WHEN YOU HEAR IT REPEATED BACK TO YOU, WHETHER AUTHENTICALLY OR EVENLY CYNICALLY, YOU KNOW IT'S OUT THERE AND THERE. WE'RE DEFINITELY LOOKING FORWARD TO DIRECTION AND SEE IF WE CAN START MOVING FORWARD WITH A NEW VISION AFTER NINE YEARS AND ENDED UP BEING TWICE REINFORCED, THE CURRENT VISION, AND WE HEARD THE TRUSTEES SAY THEY WANTED AN OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT AND SO I APPRECIATE BILL AND ALL THE STAKEHOLDERS' COMMUNITY WORK. >> CHRISTINA, IF WE CAN GO BACK TO THE FIRST TWO OPTIONS SO THE TRUSTEES, CAN TAKE A LOOK AT THOSE AS WELL. [00:40:02] I RECOMMEND -- [CROSSTALK] -- >> IS THERE ANY WAY TO HAVE ALL THREE UP AT THE SAME TIME? >> I HAVE A DOCUMENT WITH ALL THREE. GIVE ME JUST A MOMENT AND I'LL PROJECT IT. >> IS THIS SOMETHING, CHRISTINA, WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO PULL OUR GLASSES FOR. >> I DON'T THINK SO. >> US VETERAN FOLKS. >> I DON'T THINK SO. >> ALL RIGHT. WE HAVE OPTION A, B, AND C. THIS IS WHERE WE, YOU KNOW, GO TO WORK HERE. I REALIZE THAT I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU SO MUCH AND THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO STAFF FOR REALLY DOING A GOOD JOB AND GIVING STAKEHOLDER FEEDBACK AND REALLY LOOKING AT THE SEMANTICS OF THE ISSUE AND WHAT FITS IN THE COMMUNITY. IF I HAVE TO GO WITH AN OPTION TONIGHT I WOULD GO WITH OPTION C. I'VE ALWAYS AM CAREFUL ABOUT PRESUMING STATEMENT. [INDISCERNIBLE] THAT'S JUST ME. I DON'T WANT TO UNDERSTATE THE IMPORTANCE [INDISCERNIBLE] FOR THOSE WATCHING AT HOME THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT PROCESS AND IT SETS THE TONE FOR THE DISTRICT AND WHAT OUR EXPECTATIONS ARE OF THE COMMUNITY AND STAFF, ET CETERA. IF I HAD TO PICK ONE, I WOULD SAY OPTION C. >> TRUSTEE GRANT, I LIKE WHERE YOUR GUT IS GOING. AS I SAID THEM OUT LOUD, WHAT FEELS LIKE NATOMAS, WHAT FEELS LIKE PBS, WHAT FEELS LIKE OUR STUDENTS, OPTION C I KEPT COMING BACK TO. BUT THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT OPTION A. IT DOES HAVE THAT WORD, "RESPONSIBLE" THAT, YOU KNOW, IS NOT IN OPTION C THAT I FEEL LIKE IS IMPORTANT BUT I'M OPEN TO HOW OTHER TRUSTEES SEE THAT BUT THAT ONE WORD," RESPONSIBLE," YOU KNOW, STICKS WITH ME AND THE WORK THAT WE'VE DONE AND WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO TEACH OUR STUDENTS. BUT I'M OPEN TO HEARING WHAT OTHER TRUSTEE THOUGHTS ARE. >> TRUSTEE GRANT, I'M WITH YOU ON OPTION C. I DO HAVE A PROBLEM THOUGH WITH -- WHERE IS IT? I THINK -- GOSH, WHERE DID IT GO? EMBRACED DIVERSITY. YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU -- YOU HAVE TO EMBRACE DIVERSITY WILLINGLY. AND YOU HAVE TO EMBRACE IT ENTHUSIASTICALLY. I'M GETTING REALLY ANALYTICAL ABOUT THIS BUT I DON'T -- I DON'T THINK EMBRACE IS THE RIGHT WORD BECAUSE YOU CAN'T MEASURE WHEN SOMEONE EMBRACES DIVERSITY. YOU CAN'T SAY THAT ALL KIDS WILL EMBRACE -- IT'S LIKE SAYING ALL KIDS WILL EMBRACE, YOU KNOW, TRACK AND FIELD. >> THAT'S HAPPENS ACTUALLY. >> YES. I KNEW THAT WE WOULD GET TO YOU. [INDISCERNIBLE] I WAS GOING TO SAY FOOTBALL EARLIER BUT, YOU KNOW, TRACK AND FIELD. SO, YOU KNOW, I THINK WE WANT THEM TO -- I THINK WE WANT TO MOVE KIDS TO -- EVEN TO APPRECIATE IT. SO I DON'T EVEN LIKE THE WORD, "APPRECIATE" AND SO I DON'T HAVE AN ALTERNATIVE WORD RIGHT NOW, BUT I JUST THINK THAT, YOU KNOW, EMBRACE -- BECAUSE WHEN YOU EMBRACE SOMETHING IT'S USUALLY, YOU KNOW, THIS WILLINGNESS TO DO SOMETHING. IT COMES FROM -- IT COMES FROM HOW, YOU KNOW -- IT COMES FROM A SOURCE OF HOW YOU WERE RAISED. IT COMES FROM A SOURCE OF ALL YOUR EDUCATIONAL, YOU KNOW, DEVELOPMENT OVER TIME, THOSE THINGS ARE EMBRACED OVER TIME. ANYWAY, THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS I JUST WOULD LIKE TO FIND A DIFFERENT WORD THAT WOULD GET THE SAME MEANING. >> I THINK TRUSTEE HARDEN HAD A COMMENT NEXT. >> THANK YOU, PRESIDENT GRANT. I TOO -- I'M JUST MAKING SURE THAT WE WERE THAT WE'RE GOING TO FOLLOW THIS, WHATEVER WE GO INTO. I'M NOT A FAN OF OPTION B AT ALL. I DO BELIEVE I LIKE OPTION A [00:45:04] BETTER BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT CHANGED A BIT. I AM WITH TRUSTEE KAPLAN IN MOVING WORDS AROUND TO MAKE OPTION C HAVE THAT. I RESPECT WHAT TRUSTEE HEREDIA MENTIONED ON GETTING RID OF THAT AND WHAT ABOUT ACCEPT OR WELCOME OR DIVERSITY, WE'LL ACCEPT DIVERSITY OR WELCOME DIVERSITY? >> I LIKE THAT. WHAT I WAS THINKING, SOUNDS LIKE WE'RE GRAVITATING BETWEEN A AND C. IF WE PLAYED WITH THE LANGUAGE A LITTLE BIT, NUSD WILL ENCOURAGE DIVERSITY AND PROVIDE AN ENGAGING AND SAFE LEARNING COMMUNITY AND WE HAVE TO MIX IN RESPONSIBILITY SOMEWHERE. THIS IS HAPPENING IN REAL TIME, RIGHT, SO PLEASE DON'T MAKE FUN OF ME AS I'M TRYING TO THREAD THE NEEDLE HERE. >> NO ONE IS GOING TO MAKE FUN. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT WE WANT YOU TO DO. >> THERE'S NOT EASY [INDISCERNIBLE] PARENTHETICAL PHRASES. >> SUE JUST COVERED YOUR MOUTH. IS IT SOMETHING YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED IN. NO. I JUST HAVE A SINUS HEADACHE. >> ALL RIGHT. COOL. >> BUT IS, "ENCOURAGE" THE WORD WE WANT TO USE? BECAUSE WE ARE DIVERSE. AND WE WANT TO ENCOURAGE DIE TEMPERATURESVY. >> I WAS GOING TO SAY >> HOW DO WE ADDRESS DIVERSITY IN HAND BY ENGAGING THE SAME COMMUNITY OF ALL STUDENTS AND THEY ACHIEVE AND DEMONSTRATE RESPONSIBILITY MAKE, AND THAT J TO THE EMBRACE DIVERSITY ISSUE. HOW DOES THAT FEEL TO THE GROUP? >> CAN WE SEE THAT IN WRITING? SO OPTION D, DELETE IT. >> DOES THAT WORK? >> SO JUST COPY AND PASTE AND I WILL VIEW IT FROM THERE. >> SO, YOU ARE PROVIDING AND ENGAGING THE SAME COMMUNITY ALL STUDENTS WILL ACHIEVE AND THEN IT SAYS DEMONSTRATE RESPONSIBILITY,, MAKE ACADEMIC SOCIAL EMOTIONAL GROWTH AND IF YOU WOULDN'T MIND HIGHLIGHTING EMBRACE ANOTHER COLOR THAT GIVES THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THEIR >> THAT WAS REALLY BRIGHT. >> I SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE SPECIFIC.HOT PINK OR GREEN OR SOMETHING AND DOES THAT HELP EVERYTHING WITH THE EMBRACE DIVERSITY? >> DOESN'T SHOW ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL GROWTH? DOES IT? >> WHAT WE WANT TO DO IS MAKE AS MUCH OF THIS MEASURABLE AS POSSIBLE AND ACHIEVE THAT >> WE WOULD BE DOING THIS IN PERSON IF IT WASN'T FOR THE PANDEMIC AND YOU CAN STAND UP AND DO A POPEYE ARM OR SOMETHING. P >> DO WE WANT TO WELCOME DIVERSITY? IF YOU MEASURE WELCOMING? >> IT'S A MORAL STATEMENT. >> I AM SORRY WHEN WE COME BACK TO THIS AND HOW DO WE KNOW THAT [00:50:03] TO BE TRUE? >> I'M SORRY. >> I REMEMBER IN COMMUNICATIONS WE PRESENTED EARLIER THIS IS MEANT TO BE ASPIRATIONAL AND THE MISSION STATEMENTS ARE MORE SPECIFIC ACTION ORIENTED AND IT'S MEANT TO BE ASPIRATIONAL WE HAVE DONE A PRETTY GOOD JOB WHEN WE HAD OUR LAST VISION MEETING A NUMBER OF THOSE ITEMS INTO BEING MEASURABLE AND NOT ONLY, I CAN'T TELL YOU, BUT WE DID REPORT OUT OVER TIME AND HOW OUR STUDENTS WERE ENGAGED IN ACTIVITIES THAT REPRESENT THAT AND WE HAVE DOUBLED DOWN ON THE NATURE OF THAT AND DIVERSITY WAS A LOT OF ANTIRACISM AND OTHER ISSUES AND THERE WOULD BE A DATABASE AND A LOT OF EVIDENCE THAT WE WOULD BE ABLE TO SHOW THEY ARE EMBRACING IT OR WHATEVER WORD WE CHOOSE, THAT'S A WAY TO LOOK AT IT THERE WOULD BE A LOT OF OPPORTUNITIES TO SAY HOW ARE WE WORKING TO ACHIEVE BLANK DIVERSITY WHATEVER THAT VERB IS? >> JUST A QUICK SUGGESTION ON THE THIRD LIE DOWN ON THE DELETE AND ACHIEVE ALL STUDENTS WILL DEMONSTRATE RESPONSIBILITY, ACHIEVE ACADEMIC SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL GROWTH. >> 'S SO WE ALL HAVE LAPTOPS THERE IS THE OPPORTUNITY TO LOOK AT I NOTICED A HUG IN THE CURRENT STATE PROBABLY ISN'T THE BEST WATER OTHER WORDS? >> EXPECT, ADOPT, ESPOUSE, GRANT, MAKE USE OF, RECEIVE, TAKE UP, WELCOME, CONTAIN, EMBODY, ENCLOSED, ENCOMPASS, >> THOSE ARE ROUGH. I LIKE EMBRACE. IT'S ASPIRATIONAL. I WOULD HOPE PEOPLE WOULD CONSIDER FIBER ÃEMBRACE DIVERSITY. EVEN THE FACT SOME PEOPLE WOULD NOT BRACE ÃEMBRACE DIVERSITY >> I RECEIVED A WORD CELEBRATE AS AN OPTION WOULD YOU CONSIDER THAT? >> NO. >> >> BECAUSE YOU COULD BE CELEBRATED IF YOU EMBRACE IT SO OKAY. IS EVERYBODY ELSE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THE WORD EMBRACE? > BEFORE WE GET THERE, TALK TO ME ABOUT IT BECAUSE EMBRACE DOES MEAN TO WELCOME AS AN ACTION AND ISN'T THAT POTENTIALLY SOMETHING AS A VISION STATEMENT WE COULD MEASURE WHAT IS, WHAT ARE WE DOING TO PUSH, PUT FORWARD AND EMBRACE DIVERSITY AS AN ACCEPTANCE AND A WELCOMING ITEM? >> I MEAN, IF I STRUGGLED WITH THIS I HAD TO CALL ÃTODAY AND SAY WE ARE GOING TO GIVE YOU A HEAD'S UP AND SO I DID TRY TO WORK ON THIS AND I'M GOING TO LOOK AT IT AS CHRIS SAID IT'S KIND OF LIKE, YOU KNOW, WHAT YOU HAVE TO ACCOMPLISH SO I AM OKAY WITH THIS. IT'S NOT MY FAVORITE WORD BUT >> WE CAN ALWAYS BRING IT BACK. WE DON'T HAVE TO SOLVE IT TONIGHT. >> I DON'T WANT TO HOLD THIS UP. >> I AGREE WITH YOU ACTUALLY. I CAN GO EITHER WAY. WE HAVE MADE PROGRESS AND WE CAN FLOAT AROUND FOR ANOTHER COUPLE OF WEEKS AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. IT'S IMPORTANT TO HAVE A MISSION STATEMENT AND IT'S ALSO IMPORTANT TO GET IT RIGHT SO I AM COMFORTABLE WITH THE OPTION OF CIRCULATING IT MORE AND GIVING US TIME TO RESPOND AND BE SENSITIVE TO STAFF AND WE ARE SHORT STAFFED AND IT'S [00:55:05] GOING TO BE VERY Ã >> I WOULD ENCOURAGE THE BOARD IF WE CAN FIND A RESOLUTION, WE CAN BRING IT BACK AND IT'S OKAY AND I AM LOOKING AT OXFORD EMBRACES IT WILLINGLY AND ENTHUSIASTICALLY AND WHEN I LOOK AT THAT THAT WORD FEELS GOOD AND WE RAN THIS BY A VARIETY OF PARENTS AND I UNDERSTAND ONE OF THE THINGS ABOUT THE POWER OF THE VISION AND TALKING WITH LEADERS AND WE GIVE THIS ACTIVITY SPRING OF 2013 NONE OF THESE WOULD HAVE BEEN MY FIRST CHOICE IN SPECIFIC WORDING BUT IT MAY HAVE HAD A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT AND IT DIDN'T MATTER WHAT I LIKED OR THE INDIVIDUAL AT THE TIME AND IT'S SOMETHING WE CAN RALLY AROUND IT I THINK THE BIG QUESTION IS THE IDEA OF EMBRACE, MEANING EXCEPT ENTHUSIASTICALLY IS THAT SOMETHING THAT WE CAN RALLY AROUND AND HELP LANDING A VISION THAT MOVES US FORWARD? I GUESS THE BEST WAY TO DO IT IS IF THERE IS A MOTION AND A SECOND, GREAT, IF NOT WE WILL LOOK FOR A VARIETY OF WORDS. >> AND JUST A QUICK REMINDER, THE POLICY VISION THE TRUSTEES WILL REVIEW AT LEAST EVERY FIVE YEARS FOR CONSIDERATION AS WE HAVE IN THE PAST AND BROUGHT IT BACK FOR OPPORTUNITY FOR FURTHER DISCUSSION. >> I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A MOTION ON OPTION D OUT OF RESPECT FOR THE STAFF THE SURVEYS, THE TIME OF THE COMMITMENT AND WE AS TRUSTEES HAVE TIME TO LOOK AT THIS AND I APPRECIATE ALL OF THE FEEDBACK THAT HAS COME FORWARD BUT I AM GOOD WITH MOVING FORWARD WITH THIS. I WILL BRING IT TO A MOTION. >> THERE IS A MOTION ON THE FLOOR TO APPROVE OPTION B. IS THERE A SECOND? >> I WILL SECOND. >> VICE ÃPLEASE CALL THE ROLE. >>. >> >> ALL RIGHT THE MOTION PASSES 5-0 THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR WORK AND THE STAFF FOR WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN A HERCULEAN EFFORT THANK YOU VERY MUCH. >> CONGRATULATIONS TRUSTEES YOU HAVE SET A VISION FOR THE DISTRICT FOR THE NEXT FIVE YEARS AND THAT IS A LEGACY MOVE [XIV.d. Approve Purchase and Sale Agreement between SBH Natomas LLC and Natomas Unified School District (Arena Parcel] THERE. CONGRATULATIONS. >> NEXT ON THE AGENDA APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF. [INDISCERNIBLE] SCHOOL DISTRICT ANY DISCUSSION? TRUSTEES? >> I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE INVOLVED IN THE NEGOTIATIONS AND I MOVE FOR THE APPROVAL. >> I SECOND-GRADE >>. >> THE MOTION CARRIES 5-0. NEXT UP APPROVE MEMORANDUM OF. [XIV.e. Approve Memorandum of Understanding with City of Sacramento for Shared Field Space at Arena Parcel] [INDISCERNIBLE] IF THERE ISN'T ANY OBJECTION I CALL FOR A [XIV.f. Annual Review and Approval of the Governance Handbook] UNANIMOUS VOTE. WITHOUT OBJECTION, THAT MOTION PASSES 5-0 NEXT UP ACTION ITEM F ANNUAL REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF THE GOVERNANCE HANDBOOK ANY DEBATE OR DISCUSSION TRUSTEES? THIS COMES UP ONCE IN A WHILE AND WE ARE BRINGING IT BACK NOW AND. [INDISCERNIBLE] ANY CONVERSATION THAT WE NEED TO HAVE? IT WILL STILL WORK FOR US AND WE ACTUALLY HAVE SOME FEEDBACK ON THIS >> ARE WE GOING TO FOLLOW THE HANDBOOK OR? IT'S A QUESTION. >> IT'S A GOOD QUESTION ONE OF THE REASONS YOU DON'T SEE THE [01:00:02] SUPERINTENDENT ÃANNA IS BECAUSE I KNOW I HAVE SOME CONCERNS ABOUT FOLLOWING IT AND WE WON'T GET IN THE INDIVIDUAL EXAMPLES BUT THIS IS SOMETHING THAT THE TRUSTEES ÃWE DO BRING IT BACK EVERY JANUARY AND IT'S A QUALITY DOCUMENT AND THE INTENT AND THE SPIRIT IS VERY POSITIVE AND IS NOT ACTUALLY NECESSARY BEING FOLLOWED AND THAT MAKES IT DIFFICULT FOR ME TO SIGN MY NAME TO IT WHEN I KNOW IT'S SOMETHING THAT THE DISTRICT NEEDS OR RISK GOING BACK TO ÃIN PARTICULAR EARLY 2010 AND WE REACHED AND THE BOARD AT THE TIME TOOK THE ADVICE OF A NEW SUPERINTENDENT AND I ASKED THEM TO ACTUALLY ABSTAIN FROM GOING ON CAMPUSES FOR ABOUT SIX MONTHS BECAUSE THERE WAS A GROUP OF PRINCIPLES THAT FELT LIKE THEY WERE GETTING COLD BY MULTIPLE SUPERINTENDENTS AT THE TIME AND INDIVIDUAL BOARD MEMBERS AND THEY WERE CONFUSED SO THEY ACTUALLY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO SO THEY IGNORED IT OR USED AN EXCUSE AND THE GOVERNANCE HANDBOOK, THE SUCCESSFUL GOVERNANCE TEAM I THINK THERE IS INCREDIBLE VALUE IN THIS COMMITTEE AND. [INDISCERNIBLE] >> SO TRUSTEE GRANT, I CANNOT SUPPORT THIS THIS EVENING. APPROVING THE HANDBOOK. I GUESS IT RAISES THE QUESTION OF IF WE FOLLOW THE HANDBOOK AND I THINK THERE'S BEEN SOME EXAMPLES WHERE WE HAVEN'T FOLLOWED THE HANDBOOK BUT WE SIGNED OUR NAME TO ÃSAYING WE WOULD AND WE HAVEN'T AND SO I GUESS TO ME, THE QUESTION IS WHY DO WE HAVE A HANDBOOK IF WE ARE NOT WILLING TO FOLLOW IT AND WHAT WE AGREED TO IS IN THE HANDBOOK AND I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT WE PROBABLY SHOULD COME BACK AND LET ME BACK UP. FIRST OF ALL, AS TRUSTEE GRANT AND SCOTT WORKED HARD ON THIS I REMEMBER GETTING THE DRAFT AND I REMEMBER THE DISCUSSIONS AND I REMEMBER BEING EXCITED ABOUT THE CONTENT AND I AM NOT SO EXCITED ABOUT IT ANYMORE PERSONALLY AND I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT WE PROBABLY TABLE THIS OR REJECTED AND WE NEED TO COME BACK AND HAVE ANOTHER DISCUSSION ABOUT WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN IT SAYS THIS FOR EXAMPLE, WE NEED TO GO THROUGH, WHAT DOES THIS MEAN, DOES IT MEAN WE GET TO DECIDE ON OUR OWN HOW TO INTERPRET THIS PARTICULAR STATEMENT AND SO THAT IS KIND OF REVEALING ABOUT THIS HANDBOOK. >> OKAY. >> WE COULD SAY THIS IS A GOOD OPPORTUNITY WE HAVE A BASIS OF A DOCUMENT I THINK THERE'S QUESTIONS ABOUT IF IT WORKS OR NOT TO TABLE BUT ALSO TO LEAVE THIS OPEN TO SOMETHING THAT IS DONE IMMEDIATELY WITH NEW TRUSTEES THAT ARE SWORN IN SITTING DOWN AND GETTING BEHIND THE DISCUSSION ABOUT WHAT THIS MEANS AND HOW THOSE TRUSTEES SEE WHAT THE HANDBOOK IS CREATING A NEW TEAM. >> I DON'T BELIEVE WE NEED TO WAIT THAT LONG. WE WILL BE ABLE TO LOOK AT THIS AGAIN THIS IS JUST NOT THE TIME NOW. >>. [INDISCERNIBLE] AND YOU ARTICULATED THAT AND WE WORKED REALLY HARD ON THIS WE HAD A LOT OF MEETINGS AND I THINK IT DID PRODUCE SOME PRODUCTIVE CHANGES AND THERE'S NO PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP HERE WE CAN DO WHATEVER AND I DIDN'T WANT TO THROW THE WHOLE THING OUT BECAUSE I THINK THERE'S SOME GOOD CHANGES IN A POSITIVE DIRECTION I DON'T THINK THE DOCUMENT ITSELF IS BAD I THINK [01:05:01] THEY JUST DON'T FOLLOW IT AND I AM GUILTY OF IT AND I THINK EVERY TRUSTEE IN MY OPINION, AND WE ARE GUILTY OF IT NOT JUST BECAUSE WE IGNORE IT BUT I THINK IF ANY TRUSTEE BELIEVES OR ANY STAFF MEMBER OR SUPERINTENDENT THINKS THAT WE ARE GOING TO SOLVE THAT ONE NIGHT I DON'T THINK IT'S POSSIBLE AND WE CAN STILL ARGUE OVER THE CONSTITUTION AND I AM HAPPY TO I WOULD SUPPORT ACTUALLY TABLING THE DISCUSSION FOR ANOTHER TIME SO WE CAN COME BACK AND GIVE IT ANOTHER GO AND I UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE SAYING AND I FEEL LIKE WHEN I WAS COMING IN I WAS REACTING TO THINGS I PROBABLY SHOULD'VE HAD A DISCUSSION ON AND I THINK WE CAN AT LEAST TABLE IT AND THERE'S A MOTION AND ALL OF THAT AND UNTIL WE ARE DIRECTED BY THE BOARD AND SUPERINTENDENT AND CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THAT. >> I DON'T THINK WE NEED TO HAVE A MOTION TO TABLE IF THERE IS NO MOTION TO APPROVE WE CAN JUST GO ONTO THE NEXT ITEM. >> IT SAYS ANNUAL REVIEW AND APPROVAL SO IF IT WERE APPROVING SOMETHING THAT I WILL OFFER A MOTION BECAUSE I RECOMMEND THAT WE TABLE THIS IF NEED BE. >> WE DON'T HAVE TO APPROVE IT THERE IS FLEXIBILITY HERE WE APPROVED IT BUT WE WANT TO COME BACK TO IT ON THIS DATE AND IT LOOKS LIKE SUPERINTENDENT. [INDISCERNIBLE] >> SURE. I WASN'T PLANNING ON IT BUT YES THERE IS WE DON'T HAVE TO TAKE ACTION ON IT YOU CAN TAKE ACTION TO DO A COUPLE OF THINGS I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT IF YOU'RE GOING TO TAKE ACTION THAT YOU GIVE US THE GENERAL TIMEFRAME AND THERE IS GREAT DANGER EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE TIMES WHEN IT'S NOT FOLLOWED WE DON'T WANT THE WILD WEST YOU HAVE A LOT OF STAFF WITH A LOT OF THE PANDEMIC AND EVERYTHING ELSE SO IF YOU'RE GOING TO DO SOMETHING I WOULD RECOMMEND TAKING A MOTION TO NOT APPROVE TONIGHT AND BRING IT BACK IN 30 TO 60 DAYS. ADD WE WILL MAKE IT WORK AND AT LEAST CONTINUE TO FOLLOW IT AS PART OF THE MOTION IN THE SPIRIT AS YOU RECOGNIZE IT NOW KNOWING THAT WE HAVE A LOT OF WORK TO DO STILL. >> SO I HAVE A QUESTION SO SUPERINTENDENT EVIDENCE SO WE WOULD NOT APPROVE BECAUSE AS TRUSTEE GRANT POINTED OUT THERE COULD BE THINGS PHILOSOPHICALLY THAT WE DON'T AGREE ON AND YOU ALSO, I LIKE THE WAY YOU DESCRIBE IT, WE ARE NOT THE WILD WEST CAN WE TABLE IT AND SAY IF WE DO, WOULD WE NEED TO CREATE A COMMITTEE THAT LOOKS AT IT TRUSTEES AND THEN THAT COMMITTEE WORKS WITH STAFF CAN YOU SPEAK TO THAT? >> AND WE HAVE A COMMITTEE AND IT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU WANT TO TRUSTEES AND WE HAVE DONE THAT ALREADY AND TRUSTEE GRANT AND TRUSTEE DAWSON ARE EFFECTIVE IN GETTING TOGETHER AND HAVE CONVERSATIONS WE PUBLICLY DISCUSSED AND I THINK EVERYONE HAD AN INPUT AND THE CORE OF THIS IS THERE IS SOME DEBATE ABOUT WHAT THE CORE OF IT IS AND THIS IS THE MOST DIVERSE AND SO YOU HAVE A BIG CHALLENGE AND EVERYTHING FROM DIVERSITY TO RAISING DIVERSITY, WHERE IS THERE GOING TO BE GIVE AND TAKE THAT YOU FORMALIZE IN A HANDBOOK AND HOLD EACH OTHER ACCOUNTABLE AND I WILL SAY THIS BOARD ALSO MORE THAN ANY BOARD I HAVE WORKED WITH IS ACTUALLY BEGINNING TO HOLD EACH OTHER ACCOUNTABLE MORE THAN PRIOR BOARDS, AS PAINFUL AS THAT HAS BEEN AND SO THIS IRONICALLY THE APPROVAL IS PART OF THE [01:10:06] HANDBOOK SO THERE DOESN'T HAVE TO BE ANY APPROVAL BUT IT CAN STILL STAY ONLINE AND BE THERE I THINK YOU GUYS NEED TO HAVE A DISCUSSION ABOUT ITEMS AND DIFFERENCES REQUIRED BY LAW AND IT MAY NOT BE EXACTLY AS THE TRUSTEE WOULD WANT TO BUT IT MIGHT BE THE MIDDLE GROUND TOGETHER TWEAKING WHERE THERE ARE SOME DIFFERENCES COULD BE VERY POWERFUL IT GIVES YOU ALL WHAT YOU HAVE DEMONSTRATED COMING TOGETHER IN THE MIDDLE AND IT SENDS A POWERFUL MESSAGE TO THE COMMUNITY THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO MEET IN THE MIDDLE AND I THINK IT DEMONSTRATES DIVERSITY AS A STRENGTH AND LONG WINDED I WOULD SAY KEEP IT ON THE BOOKS BUT DIRECT US TO QUICKLY IDENTIFY WITH THE TRUSTEES, IF IT'S 2 WHO WANT TO WORK WITH STAFF AND I KNOW THAT GETS COMPLICATED BUT THERE'S A WAY THAT YOU CAN GIVE US TIME TO THINK ABOUT COLLECTING MORE EACH OF YOU HAS A SPOT THAT YOU HAVE MADE PHILOSOPHICALLY AND JUST TALK ABOUT IT AND SEE IF WE CAN FIND A MIDDLE GROUND >> OKAY. I JUST NEED CLARIFICATION SO I UNDERSTAND WHERE WE ARE GOING AND BY NOT APPROVING IT TONIGHT I AM TRYING TO THINK OF WAYS SO THERE IS NOT A LOT OF STAFF Ã SO BY NOT APPROVING IT TONIGHT, ONE THING WE COULD DO AS TRUSTEES IS INDIVIDUALLY GO THROUGH THE HANDBOOK AND SHARE OUR COMMENTS BE PREPARED TO SHARE OUR COMMENTS IN SOME FORM OR FASHION EVENTS WITH STAFF SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO ASK US A LOT OF QUESTIONS AND WE CAN SHARE THE INFORMATION WITH THEM AND BASED ON WHAT THEY HEAR FROM US IN CONSULTATION WITH YOU OR OTHERS DETERMINED THIS MIGHT BE THE BEST WAY AND OF COURSE PRESIDENT GRANT ALSO OKAY. PIN MY ON THE RIGHT TRACK? >> I THINK SO IT'S INTERESTING EVEN IF YOU DON'T APPROVE IT TONIGHT IT STILL EXISTS IN IS STILL THERE IS JUST NOT UPDATED FOR 2022. >> I THINK WE SHOULD LEAVE IT UP I THINK WE CAN STILL FOLLOW IT TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITY BUT I THINK WE NEED TO COME BACK AND LOOK AT IT. >> SO LET ME BE CLEAR THAT THE DOCUMENT ITSELF IS NOT BAD AT ALL AND WHAT PRESIDENT GRANT SAID WE HAVE FOLLOWED IT TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITY IS TIME FOR ACCOUNTABILITY AND CHANGE AND COMMITTED TO FOLLOWING IT AND NOT JUST VOTING ON IT. THANK YOU. >> SO IT LOOKS LIKE WE NEED A MOTION AND I AM NOT SURE WHAT THE MOTION WOULD BE A MOTION TO BRING THE ITEM BACK AND LEAVE IT ON THE WEBSITE FOR NOW AND THE SUPERINTENDENT WOULD HAVE 60 DAYS JOB IDENTIFY AREAS WHERE THERE'S ÃAT THE APPROPRIATE TIME SO I WILL PUT THAT OUT THERE IS THERE A SECOND? >> PLEASE CALL THE ROLL. >>. >> ALL RIGHT.
