FIRST OF ALL, OUR SECOND VISION SURVEY IS OUT THIS MONTH IT COULD BE SIMPLE AS A ONE QUESTION ANSWER JUST MARK THE BOXES IF YOU LIKE. OUR OPTION IS FOR FOLLOW-UP WE HAVE 851 RESPONSES IN A LITTLE OVER 24 HOURS, THAT'S FANTASTIC.

IT'S ONE FORM OF STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT AS WE TAKE A LOOK AT OUR VISION GOALS AND BEGIN WHAT WE ARE CALLING FOR FIVE. THE FIVE-YEAR SUCCESSOR TO OUR CURRENT STRATEGIC PLAN FOR JUNE 2022. LOOK FOR MULTIPLE OPPORTUNITIES TO ENGAGE IN THE SURVEY IS A NICE WEIGHT QUICKLY TO HEAR FROM YOU ON WHICH WORDS MATTER MOST TO OUR COMMUNITY.

WE DID SEND HOME TO MESSAGES TODAY FOR OUR FAMILIES. ONE IN PARTICULAR AS WE ARE BALANCING THE SMOKE AND THE PANDEMIC WE ARE FINDING THEY ARE REALLY NOT GOOD CHOICES BUT CHOICES HAVE TO BE MADE. WE ARE NOT ALONE. MOST OF YOU KNOW THAT CALIFORNIA IS DOING WITH THE SAME ISSUE SOME SCHOOLS IN A NORTHERN CALIFORNIA WAKE UP AND FIND THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE A SCHOOL ANYMORE. SO WE ARE BLESSED THAT WE ARE HERE WE ARE NOT UNCHALLENGED. I WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW WERE DOING ALL WE CAN TO MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS AND CONTINUE OUR OWN HIGH EXPECTATIONS AS A DISTRICT.

OUR BOARD POLICY VP ZERO 100 TALKS IN A PUT IN PLAIN LANGUAGE IT GIVES US PERMISSION TO FOCUS ON CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT AND SOMETIMES FALL FORWARD AND TAKE YOURSELVES BACK UP AND KEEP MOVING FORWARD. THERE WILL BE SOMETIMES THAT WE WILL DO THAT. BECAUSE THERE IS NO PLAYBOOK FOR WHAT WE HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH FOR A YEAR AND 1/2. WE HAD SOME BREAKTHROUGH CASES IN OUR OWN A DISTRICT, NOT A TON, BUT ENOUGH THAT WERE ABLE TO SEE AND FEEL SOME OF THE THINGS THAT ARE BEING SEEN ON A MEDIA AND HURT ON PODCASTS AND SUCH. WE ALSO TALKED ABOUT HALF A DOZEN OF OUR FAMILIES THE SHORTAGE LIKE THOSE MY DAUGHTER WHEN SHE WAS A FRESHMAN THEY DO NOT HAVE A SPANISH TEACHER BECAUSE THERE'S A SHORTAGE OF THAT. THERE'S NOT MUCH WE CAN SAY TO PARENTS EXCEPT WE APOLOGIZE. WE ARE NOT ALONE. IN THE COMMUNICATION I SHARED SOME DISTRICTS HAVE DOZENS AND DOZENS OF VACANCIES, SOME HAVE HUNDREDS.

AND THEN TONIGHT, AFTER ABOUT TWO AND HALF YEARS FROM WHEN WE STARTED THIS FIRST CONVERSATION DOCTOR WILL BE HERE TO TALK TO US ABOUT THE WORK THAT HE ENGAGED IN AND WE ARE VERY INTERESTED IN HEARING. WE ARE VERY PROUD OF OUR GRADUATION RATES IN OUR BLACK AND HISPANIC STUDENTS AND ALL OF OUR STUDENTS. WE HAVE HAD A VARIETY OF EITHER BIG SUCCESSES, MODERATE SUCCESSES OR THINGS THAT HAVE NOT WORKED. I SET VERY CLOSE TO THIS CHAIR I THINK WE WERE A LITTLE CLOSER. I THINK THE FIRST YEAR WE STARTED RESTORATIVE JUSTICE AND DECLARED THAT IT WAS A MISFIRE AND NEEDED TO BE REBOOTED.

WE WERE RESOUNDING CRITICIZED FOR OWNING THAT. WELL, THAT IS WHO WE HAVE BEEN AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO DO IT. WE CAME BACK AND HAVE MADE STEPS FORWARD AND MADE SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS. WE'VE ADDED A RACE AND SOCIAL JUSTICE CLASS, POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION SYSTEM, RESTORATIVE PRACTICES, WE HAVE IT DIVERSITY HIRING PROGRAM THAT WILL BE PRESENTING AT THE CALIFORNIA SCHOOL BOARD ASSOCIATION OR NATIONAL? SEE SBA. THIS WINTER, THAT HAS SHOWED SOME TEMPERED PROGRESS IN THE CHANGING OF OUR DEMOGRAPHICS MEANING OUR DEMOCRATIC'S ARE CHANGING BUT WHEN YOU'RE LOOKING AT 15 TEACHERS YOU'RE NOT REALLY LOOKING AT WHEN YOU HAVE 650 MASSIVE CHANGE YEAR TO YEAR. SO MASSIVE CHANGE OVER TIME AND THIS PROGRAM OVER 10 YEARS COULD REALLY CHANGE WHO WE ARE AS A DISTRICT IN THE DIVERSITY IN OUR CERTIFICATE.

10 OR 15, 10 OF 15 OF OUR POSSIBLES COME FROM ETHICALLY DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS AND A CABINET IS LED BY A MAJORITY OF BRILLIANT AND HARD-WORKING WOMEN.

WE GET A LIST OF DOCUMENTS, THEY'RE GOING TO ANALYZE OUR POLICIES, PRACTICES, OUR COMMUNICATIONS, THE GONNA BE FOCUS GROUPS WITH EMPLOYEES AND THEY WANT TO LOOK TO OUTLINE STRENGTHS AND AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT THROUGH THE LENS OF DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION.

AND BASED ON THAT IF WE SO CHOOSE, WE CAN EITHER UTILIZE SOME OF THEIR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SERVICES OR GO OUT AND FIND A DIFFERENT ONES. STUDENT VOICES ADVISORY GROUP WE INVITED 19 STUDENTS AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL PARTICULAR HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL TO JOIN AN ADVISORY GROUP. WE ARE 14 OF THE 19 THAT SAID YES, TO SAID MAYBE AND ONLY WHEN NO SO FAR. WE LOOK FOR TO BE PART OF THAT. TWO OF HER TEACHERS HAVE A VOLUNTEER TO COLEADER ETHICS TEAM MORE INFORMATION WILL BE COMING ON THAT.

OUR LITERACY EFFORTS ARE AT THE EARLY STAGES AS LITERACY IMPROVING LITERACY WAS ONE OF OUR STRATEGIC PLANS FROM THE NEXT FIVE STRATEGIC PLANS. IT IS AS WE ARE BEGINNING TO FOCUS ON WRITING USING TEXT OR READING WORKER LOOK TO SEE HOW WE CAN CHANGE THOSE READINGS TO REPRESENT OUR STUDENTS SO THEY CAN SEE THEMSELVES IN THOSE READINGS OVER TIME.

WE STARTED THAT WORK ALREADY WITH AN OUTSIDE CONSULTANCY SCHOOLYARD REP WHOSE ULTIMATE THEIR PRINCIPLES IN A CHAMPION GROUP OF TEACHERS TO HELP US THINK ABOUT HOW CURRICULUM CAN BE MORE INCLUSIVE AND REPRESENTATIVE OF OUR STUDENTS AND LOOK AT HISTORY THROUGH A PDIFFERENT LENS AND THERE'S MOR PROGRESS AND MORE COMING. WITH THAT CONTEXT THAT'S KEEP MOVING FORWARD WITH MY THANKS TO ALL THE STAFF FOR OPENING THE SCHOOL YEAR, WHAT YOU PULLED OFF WAS AMAZING. PTHAT WE ARE BACK AFTER A YEAR AND AND A HALF AND OPEN.

MORE FOCUS ON THESE TYPES OF POLICIES. IT USED TO BE COOL TO CALL THEM REFORM POLICIES BUT THAT'S NO LONGER APPARENTLY COOL. BUT TO WORK ON THE THINGS THAT REALLY MATTER. THIS BOARD ALREADY DOES A NUMBER OF THINGS FROM ALLOCATING BUDGET AND MONEY, MONITORING IT BY REQUESTED OR DEMANDED THAT STAFF BRINGS YOU DATA, REMEMBER A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO WE GAVE YOU MONEY, NUMBER OF STUDENTS AND GIVE YOU A NUMBER RATIO TO LOOK AT THE DOLLARS YOU SPENT IN EFFECT.
